STEP 1: Plan your business

A clear plan is essential for success as an entrepreneur. It will help you map out the specifics of your business and discover some unknowns. A few important topics to consider are:

What will you name your business?

  • What are the startup and ongoing costs?
  • Who is your target market?

How much can you charge customers?

Luckily we have done a lot of this research for you.

Choosing the right name is important and challenging. If you don’t already have a name in mind, visit our How to Name a Business guide or get help brainstorming a name with our Bridal Shop Business Name Generator

If you operate a sole proprietorship , you might want to operate under a business name other than your own name. Visit our DBA guide to learn more.

When registering a business name , we recommend researching your business name by checking:

  • Your state's business records
  • Federal and state trademark records
  • Social media platforms
  • Web domain availability .

It's very important to secure your domain name before someone else does.

Want some help naming your bridal shop business?

Business name generator, what are the costs involved in opening a bridal shop business.

Owners have to calculate the cost of rent, inventory, staff salaries, marketing, and insurance. Costs can be anywhere from several thousand to $50,000 (or more) in the most competitive neighborhoods.

What are the ongoing expenses for a bridal shop business?

Bridal shop owners will need to account for their inventory, rent/mortgage, and insurance costs. They'll also need to take into account the staff salaries as well as ongoing marketing costs and acquisition of new designers.

Who is the target market?

The target market can theoretically be any socioeconomic group, as most brides prefer to wear a special frock for their special occasion. Owners will need to choose who they want to cater to when it comes to offering their fashions. For example, selling mainly to middle-class women, but also keeping an off-the-rack section for those who may be watching their pennies.

How does a bridal shop business make money?

A bridal shop makes money buying selling wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, and other wedding accessories to customers.

Brides are usually willing to splurge on a quality dress, even when their wedding budgets aren't exactly infinite. The average cost of a wedding gown is about $1,100, but brides have been known to spend well into five-figures.

How much profit can a bridal shop business make?

Retail markups are substantial in wedding sales. The wholesale cost of a wedding gown is typically double that of the raw cost of materials, and the retail price is typically double that of wholesale costs. So a dress that cost $500 could easily be sold at $1,000 wholesale and $2,000 in a store.

How can you make your business more profitable?

From accessories to tailoring to autumn formal dresses, there are plenty of ways to entice a wide range of customers into a store. Bridal shops can also consider adding a ‘trunk party’ element to their business where they take their fashions to the bride's home to show off.

STEP 4: Open a business bank account & credit card

Using dedicated business banking and credit accounts is essential for personal asset protection.

When your personal and business accounts are mixed, your personal assets (your home, car, and other valuables) are at risk in the event your business is sued. In business law, this is referred to as piercing your corporate veil .

Open a business bank account

Besides being a requirement when applying for business loans, opening a business bank account:

  • Separates your personal assets from your company's assets, which is necessary for personal asset protection.
  • Makes accounting and tax filing easier.

Recommended: Read our Best Banks for Small Business review to find the best national bank or credit union.

STEP 6: Obtain necessary permits and licenses

Failure to acquire necessary permits and licenses can result in hefty fines, or even cause your business to be shut down.

State & Local Business Licensing Requirements

Certain state permits and licenses may be needed to operate a bridal shop business. Learn more about licensing requirements in your state by visiting SBA’s reference to state licenses and permits .

Most businesses are required to collect sales tax on the goods or services they provide. To learn more about how sales tax will affect your business, read our article, Sales Tax for Small Businesses .

Certificate of Occupancy

A bridal shop business is generally run out of a bridal shop. Businesses operating out of a physical location typically require a Certificate of Occupancy (CO).  A CO confirms that all building codes, zoning laws and government regulations have been met.

  • If you plan to lease a location :
  • It is generally the landlord’s responsibility to obtain a CO.
  • Before leasing, confirm that your landlord has or can obtain a valid CO that is applicable to a bridal shop business.
  • After a major renovation, a new CO often needs to be issued. If your place of business will be renovated before opening, it is recommended to include language in your lease agreement stating that lease payments will not commence until a valid CO is issued.
  • If you plan to purchase or build a location :
  • You will be responsible for obtaining a valid CO from a local government authority.
  • Review all building codes and zoning requirements for your business’ location to ensure your bridal shop business will be in compliance and able to obtain a CO.

STEP 7: Get business insurance

Just as with licenses and permits, your business needs insurance in order to operate safely and lawfully. Business Insurance protects your company’s financial wellbeing in the event of a covered loss.

There are several types of insurance policies created for different types of businesses with different risks. If you’re unsure of the types of risks that your business may face, begin with General Liability Insurance . This is the most common coverage that small businesses need, so it’s a great place to start for your business.

Another notable insurance policy that many businesses need is Workers’ Compensation Insurance . If your business will have employees, it’s a good chance that your state will require you to carry Workers' Compensation Coverage.

FInd out what types of insurance your Bridal Shop Business needs and how much it will cost you by reading our guide Business Insurance for Bridal Shop Business.

STEP 8: Define your brand

Your brand is what your company stands for, as well as how your business is perceived by the public. A strong brand will help your business stand out from competitors.

If you aren't feeling confident about designing your small business logo, then check out our Design Guides for Beginners , we'll give you helpful tips and advice for creating the best unique logo for your business.

Recommended : Get a logo using Truic's free logo Generator no email or sign up required, or use a Premium Logo Maker .

If you already have a logo, you can also add it to a QR code with our Free QR Code Generator . Choose from 13 QR code types to create a code for your business cards and publications, or to help spread awareness for your new website.

How to promote & market a bridal shop business

Your promotion techniques will vary greatly depending on your chosen clientele. If you’re selling haute couture for $50,000 or more, you’ll want to network by throwing exclusive parties or similar high-end fashion events. If you’re catering to those who make a more modest income, use internet advertising or television commercials to entice people into your store. Some of the best marketing is having the right staging for your windows. Featuring your best gowns on mannequins is a great way to give potential customers a snapshot of the styles they’ll find inside.

How to keep customers coming back

The best thing an owner can do is to concentrate on the little things that make a customer’s experience spectacular. A cup of coffee or a glass of champagne can be a great way to set people at ease and show that you're willing to go the extra mile — especially if you're catering to a middle-class crowd. Customers want quality gowns at affordable prices, but they also want to be treated with respect and compassion during a stressful time.

STEP 9: Create your business website

After defining your brand and creating your logo the next step is to create a website for your business .

While creating a website is an essential step, some may fear that it’s out of their reach because they don’t have any website-building experience. While this may have been a reasonable fear back in 2015, web technology has seen huge advancements in the past few years that makes the lives of small business owners much simpler.

Here are the main reasons why you shouldn’t delay building your website:

  • All legitimate businesses have websites - full stop. The size or industry of your business does not matter when it comes to getting your business online.
  • Social media accounts like Facebook pages or LinkedIn business profiles are not a replacement for a business website that you own.
  • Website builder tools like the GoDaddy Website Builder have made creating a basic website extremely simple. You don’t need to hire a web developer or designer to create a website that you can be proud of.

Recommended : Get started today using our recommended website builder or check out our review of the Best Website Builders .

Other popular website builders are: WordPress , WIX , Weebly , Squarespace , and Shopify .

STEP 10: Set up your business phone system

Getting a phone set up for your business is one of the best ways to help keep your personal life and business life separate and private. That’s not the only benefit; it also helps you make your business more automated, gives your business legitimacy, and makes it easier for potential customers to find and contact you.

Entrepreneurship Quiz

What happens during a typical day at a bridal shop business?

A typical day in a bridal shop will likely involve being on the sales floor as much as possible and researching new trends in formal fashion. Owners will also need to allot time for basic administrative duties, marketing, and stocking merchandise.

What are some skills and experiences that will help you build a successful bridal shop business?

Owners should ideally have experience in retail before getting started. They should be organized and have a knack for managing people and tricky situations. Those who design their own wedding dresses may find it difficult to transition from selling ad-hoc dresses to having a full-blown store.

What is the growth potential for a bridal shop business?

Growth potential for brick-and-mortar bridal shops may be stunted by the growth of online sales, but it’s certainly not impossible to achieve lasting success. The abundance of choices on the market today can be not only overwhelming in terms of abundance but also overwhelming in terms of variety, quality, and costs. Those who can hone in on the most in-demand fashions of the day and provide genuine customer service can build up a steady clientele from the very beginning.

What are some insider tips for jump starting a bridal shop business?

There are a variety of ways to achieve success from your bridal shop business. You may have an eye for designers and a knack for customer service. You may be a talented seamstress or designer who creates true masterpieces for their clients. You may even be able to buy a bridal shop and hire a talented right-hand assistant who can put their vision into reality.

However you choose to make it happen, you need to understand the people behind the purchase. Special occasions are a beloved way to get a break from day-to-day drudgery. You’re selling not just a pretty gown, but an entire experience. People who do well in this business are not only hard workers willing to take on a variety of roles, but also uniquely talented in their ability to put an overwhelmed bride’s mind at ease.

There are also franchise opportunities (e.g., Bride’s Entourage, etc.) for those who aren't quite sure where to begin. Franchising ensures owners start with an established reputation, which can help their store get a leg-up in the very beginning. They'll also have a set business model to follow that has already been proven to be successful with clients. However, even franchise owners need to be willing to think outside the box when it comes to stocking and selling truly unforgettable dresses.

Owners may also want to highlight what makes their store unique from online shopping. Despite the surge in popularity, most people still prefer the personal interaction of shopping in a store. Offering people a one-stop shop in their town is a great way to cut through the confusion and frustration of shopping for a special dress online. Not only is it completely impersonal to buy from a faceless buyer on a website, it also takes some of the magic away from the dress.

How and when to build a team

Bridal shop owners who choose to do appointment-only consultations don’t necessarily need to build a team right away. However, if you’re planning to run a more traditional store, then it only makes sense to hire people right away. Look for people who have experience in both fashion and customer service. Employees will need to understand the more unique points of the business to succeed.

How to Open the Bridal Shop of Your Dreams: A Comprehensive Guide

A bride in a beautiful wedding gown

If you love weddings and have a keen eye for fashion, opening a bridal boutique might be the perfect new venture for you. Your passion can be a foundation to build a successful business. However, there is a good amount of planning involved to ensure that your bridal business is successful.

With all the planning involved, opening your own bridal shop can be extremely overwhelming. This blog breaks down the process of how to open a bridal shop , complete with actionable tips and advice from industry veterans .

  • Get started with market research
  • Figure out your finances
  • Organize and file your paperwork
  • Set up your bridal shop
  • Plan your promotional activities

Before we take a deep dive, let’s talk about the modern-day bride and set some context if you’re a novice in the industry.

Brides today are generally in their late twenties to early thirties and have a good income.   They expect to be offered dresses by well-known designers and are happy to pay for superior quality, variety, and exceptional service.

The bridal store industry is highly competitive. Every boutique offers a wide range of gowns along with a highly personalized shopping experience. Keeping this in mind, focus on creating a unique selling point for yourself to build a prosperous venture .

Without further ado, here is your comprehensive guide on how to start a bridal boutique!

1. Get started with market research

Wedding gowns displayed at a wedding Expo

The bridal store industry is highly dynamic as fashion and wedding trends change every season. Ideally, you will conduct market research at different levels of maturity in your business.

Currently, the purpose of such a study is to understand the bridal store industry, recent trends, and your target audience . When your venture has matured, you may look for a new niche or customer segment to target.

Additionally, it is prudent to perform competitor analysis. This will give you an idea of what everyone is already doing and how you could differentiate yourself.

a. Acquaint yourself with the industry

First and foremost, familiarize yourself with the industry. Before you open a bridal boutique business, visit wedding fairs and trade shows to get an understanding of what is trending in the business.

Talk to the vendors at the fairs and ask them questions about what brides look for in their shopping experience. It is highly suggested that you talk to people who own a bridal boutique . This will give you perspective on how to go about opening a bridal shop and growing your business.

b. Is my store needed in the market?

Before you go all-in, it is crucial to know if there is a desire for your services. You need to ask yourself questions like-

  • How many people would be interested in my store?
  • How much do my potential customers earn?
  • Are there similar options available to them?
  • What do they pay for these alternatives?
  • What is the maximum they’re willing to pay?

Evaluating these questions will provide valuable insights that’ll help you decide a niche that fits consumer needs and define a USP for your bridal store.

This step is especially important when venturing into the bridal business. The number of weddings per year is decreasing . You want to make sure that you open a wedding dress shop near a community that wants your store, and has the disposable income to spend on a wedding and a wedding gown.

  • For instance, after conducting your market research you may find out that the brides in your community are particularly budget-conscious.
  • You may establish yourself as a budget-friendly yet elegant boutique and create a niche for yourself in that customer segment.

c. Identify and analyze the competition

Now that you have an understanding of your customer, get to know your competitors in and out. Evaluate them on their strengths and weaknesses- this gives you your window of opportunity to enter the market .

Your store should address problems that no other store focuses on; this creates an incentive for brides to come to visit you and potentially buy from you.

For instance, Emma Swain from Nora Eve Bridal quit the wedding planning business and decided to start a bridal shop business after she couldn’t find any store that provided a luxurious shopping experience to her brides. Similarly, Zara Wakefield opened a bridesmaid store, Confetti Bridesmaid , after facing an uphill struggle to find herself a bridesmaid’s dress for her best friend’s wedding.

2. Figure out your finances

Bridal store owner calculating start-up costs

The key to any successful business is preparation. Before you open a bridal boutique, you will have bills to pay, and understanding your expenses will help you launch smoothly and successfully . Additionally, you will need a business plan to help set your short-term and long-term goals and map out how you’d want to reach those goals.

Finally, we get to funding, one of the first and most important financial choices you will be making as a business owner. How you choose to fund your boutique could affect how you structure and run your business.

a. Calculate your start-up costs

When you’re starting a bridal shop, there are some common start-up costs that you’re likely to incur. This checklist by the Small Business Administration is a great place to begin:

  • Office space
  • Equipment and supplies
  • Communications
  • Licenses and Permits
  • Employee salaries
  • Advertising and marketing
  • Printed marketing materials
  • Making a website

Now estimate how much this will cost you. Costs like licenses and equipment are pretty straightforward as they’re readily available. However, estimates for costs such as salaries tend to be less certain. Similarly, the cost to rent space will vary greatly from city to city and even by the specific location you plan to open your store in. According to this blog by Profitable Ventures , opening a bridal shop costs a minimum of $250,000.

b. Create an exhaustive business plan

Bridal store business plan

A good business plan guides you through each stage of starting and managing your business. Usually, a business plan is used as a roadmap for how to structure, run, and grow your new business . It’s a way to think through the key elements of your business.

You will use your business plan as a tool to convince people that working with you, or investing in your store is a smart choice. Typical elements of a business plan include:

  • General business description
  • Inventory description, analysis, and strategy
  • Promotion plan
  • Start-up expenses
  • Projected statement of sales and expenses

To get started, have a look at this sample business plan for a medium-sized wedding dress shop.

c. Raise funds for your bridal store

Your start-up cost estimates and business plan will help you answer the question, “How much money do I need to open a bridal shop?”. If you don’t have that amount on hand, you’ll need to either raise or borrow the capital.

A person allocating funds for a bridal salon

Bootstrapping or self-funding lets you leverage your financial resources to support your business.

  • Self-funding can come in the form of turning to family and friends for capital, using your savings accounts or even tapping into your 401(k) plan .
  • With self-funding, you retain complete control over the business, but you also take on all the risks yourself.
  • Be careful not to spend more than you can afford, and be especially cautious if you choose to tap into retirement accounts early.
  • You might face expensive fees or penalties, or damage your ability to retire on time — so you should check with your plan’s administrator and a personal financial advisor first.

If you want to retain complete control of your business, but don’t have enough funds to start a bridal shop, consider a Small Business Loan .

  • To increase your chances of securing a loan, you should have a business plan, expense sheet, and financial projections for the next five years. These tools will give you an idea of how much you’ll need to ask for, and will help the bank know they’re making a smart choice by giving you a loan.
  • Once you have your materials ready, contact banks and credit unions to request a loan. You’ll want to compare offers to get the best possible terms for your loan.
  • If you have trouble getting a traditional business loan, you should look into SBA-guaranteed loans .

3. Organize and file your paperwork

Paperwork lays the legal foundation of your business. With your paperwork in order, you can safeguard yourself against any unlikely lawsuit and potentially save yourself thousands of dollars in lawyer’s fees.

Bridal store owner organizing paperwork

It is important that you are aware of the basic business structures that exist, along with the specific permits and permissions you may need before opening a wedding dress shop.

a. Pick a business structure

Your business structure affects how much you pay in taxes, your ability to raise money, the paperwork you need to file, and your personal liability. When you open a bridal shop, you’ll need to choose a business structure before you register your business with the state. Here are some common business structures:

A sole proprietorship is easy to form and gives you complete control of your business.

  • Sole proprietorships do not produce a separate business entity.  This means your business assets and liabilities are not separate from your personal assets and liabilities. You can be held personally liable for the debts and obligations of the business.
  •  Keep in mind that it can be hard to raise money because banks are hesitant to lend to sole proprietorships.

Partnerships are the simplest structure for two or more people to own a business together. There are two common kinds of partnerships: limited partnerships (LP) and limited liability partnerships (LLP) .

  • Limited partnerships have only one general partner with unlimited liability, and all other partners have limited liability.  The partners with limited liability also tend to have limited control over the company, which is documented in a partnership agreement.
  • Limited liability partnerships are similar to limited partnerships, but give limited liability to every owner. An LLP protects each partner from debts against the partnership , they won’t be responsible for the actions of other partners .

Limited Liability Company (LLC) lets you take advantage of the benefits of both the corporation and partnership business structures.

  • While the limited liability feature is similar to that of a corporation, the availability of flow-through taxation to the members of an LLC is a feature of a partnership rather than an LLC.
  • LLCs protect you from personal liability in most instances, your personal assets — like your vehicle, house, and savings accounts — won’t be at risk in case your LLC faces bankruptcy or lawsuits .

b. Register your business

Bridal boutique owners filing for insurance and permits

Your location and business structure determine how you’ll need to register your business. Once you determine those factors first, registration becomes very straightforward. For most small businesses, registering your business is as simple as registering your business name with state and local governments.

If you don’t register your bridal business, you could miss out on personal liability protection, legal benefits, and tax benefits.

The next step would be to apply for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) if you do not have one already. It is important to get an EIN as it serves as your federal tax ID. You need it to pay federal taxes, hire employees, open a bank account, and apply for business licenses/permits.

You may also need a state tax ID . The need for a state tax ID number ties directly to whether your business must pay state taxes.

  • Sometimes, you can use state tax ID numbers for other functions, like protection against identity theft for sole proprietors.
  • Tax obligations differ at the state and local levels, so you’ll need to check with your state’s website.

If you plan on serving Champagne at your boutique or giving away a bottle of bubbly with every purchase, check with the local authorities if a liquor license is required . Chances are that you will need one, and the type of permit will change from state to state.

bridal dress business plan

As the last step, it is important that you get your business insured . Before choosing an insurance plan, assess your risks.

  • Think about what kind of accidents, natural disasters, or lawsuits could damage your business.
  • After making such an assessment, a commercial insurance agent can help you find policies that match your needs.
  •  Make sure you compare rates, terms, and benefits for insurance offers from several different agents and pick out the best deal.

4. Set up your bridal shop

Now that your paperwork is complete, you can take a deep dive into setting up your bridal shop and getting the specifics right . You would want to start with choosing a location, aesthetic, and decor for your shop, and then move towards vetting suppliers, ordering inventory, and hiring staff.

When opening a bridal store, keep in mind that your dress collection and the overall vibe of your store are what will set you apart from the competition. We suggest that you take your time with this process and tailor it to the market you wish to target.

a. Pick your ideal location

While you could start a bridal shop from home, for your business to be frequented by customers, consider setting it up in an area with high traffic. That way, potential clients can see that there is a boutique that can cater to their wedding needs. You might want to set up a wedding gown shop near other wedding businesses, such as cake shops, print shops, wedding venues, and beauty salons.

Jane Watson , who runs a highly-successful bridal business consultancy has the following advice to offer-

  • Contrary to what you may think, having no competition in the area is not necessarily a good thing – if there is more than one bridal shop in the vicinity a bride may be keen to come to the area and spend the day looking for her dress.
  • Try to avoid a shop with two floors – the rent will be higher and you will need more staff. Premises on a five-year lease with a three-year break clause are ideal – this gives you time to establish your business, start slowly and build up your knowledge of the industry. Once successful you can decide whether to renew the lease or move to bigger premises.

b. Design your store interiors

According to interior design consultancy Design CLD , when opening a bridal wedding gown shop, you need to choose is your theme. This should be unique enough to stand out, but at the same time should be suitable for your target audience. They have pinpointed four themes for your bridal boutique – romantic, natural, modern, and classic .

Bride in a wedding dress, standing in front of a mirror.

Now it is time to set the right atmosphere. You want to open a bridal shop where brides-to-be feel comfortable and relaxed . To avoid your boutique becoming cold and unfriendly, opt for soft, warm lighting instead of fluorescent. You can also use spotlights to add focus to any dresses on display.

When designing the interior of your bridal boutique, it’s important that you get the layout right. You want your stock to be easily accessible by your customers and the simplest way of doing this is through free-flowing spacing.

Jane Watson also recommends to:

  • Have lots of mirrors strategically placed , small tables and chairs for an intimate chat with your clients, and good-sized fitting rooms. Make the showroom inviting and play soft music so it is not deadly quiet when a customer walks in.
  • Plugin scented air fresheners, buy fresh flowers…and display stock so that all the dresses can be seen easily – just five or a maximum of seven dresses per meter rail. And change the window display weekly .

c. Order your inventory

When you start a bridal salon, it is very important that you evaluate multiple options before finalizing your suppliers . Reach out to manufacturers directly or visit trade shows. Online marketplaces are a fantastic way to shop for merchandise without leaving your store. Physical marketplaces are a great idea as well. Some of the popular places include:

  • Magic Las Vegas
  • Project Las Vegas
  • Dallas Market Center
  • Fame New York
  • Off Price (Las Vegas and New York)
  • Stylemax (Chicago)
  • America’s Mart Atlanta
  • Accessories The Show (New York and Las Vegas)
  • NW Trend Show (Seattle)

If you’re considering selling bridal accessories, decide if you want to use domestic or overseas designers. After you have found your manufacturing supplier, it is advisable to visit them before you start ordering as it will allow you to check the quality of your future inventory.

Jane Watson adds:

  • Avoid any designers which are stocked by your competitors ; most designers will not want to supply you if they already have successful stockists in your area. Start with four collections and about 40 to 50 samples in total so you can purchase a good representation of designs from each supplier.
  • Building up a relationship with your suppliers is fundamental to the success of your business. If you are loyal to them, you can expect loyalty in return. Make sure you understand their policy in supplying the competition, how many new samples you will be expected to buy at each show, what the payment terms will be.

Bridal store owner checking supplier’s product quality

Tracy Tyler from Beautiful Brides says:

  • Don’t allow your stock levels to get out of control, identify under-performing samples early and sell them off before they depreciate too much in value. Keep your stock fresh , to not only show your customers the most up-to-date collections but also keep you and your team invigorated and excited about the collections.
  • Rotate your merchandise displays frequently – this will not only keep the store looking fresh but will also identify dresses that aren’t being pulled, they may be the next bestseller or the one that needs a sale ticket.

To cater to the growing number of couples who want to get married quickly, consider stocking some popular ranges in the most requested sizes.

d. Set a price for your services

Getting your pricing strategy right is very important. Ensure that the difference between the cost price and the selling price is enough to cover all of your operating costs, including your drawings. Margins in the bridal business are generally high . You are likely to add a mark-up of at least 100% (even 200% or more) to your gowns and accessories . Make sure you have dresses in a range of price bands – but don’t underprice or outprice yourself for your area.

Bridal dress price tag

Next, you need to decide how you’re going to charge for your services. You’re helping a bride pick out her dream dress. Trying on four to six dresses can take a while, and you can charge for this consultation . Alternatively, you can have a no-show fee attached to every appointment.

Some bridal shops charge a ‘rush cut fee’ for orders placed less than three months before the wedding day. You can also decide to ask for a non-refundable charge if a customer asks you to reserve a particular gown. If she places an order for the dress you would set the amount she’s already paid against the cost of the outfit.

Keep in mind that dresses almost always require alterations. It is important to make it clear to the customer whether or not the price includes alteration.

Managing appointments can be a hassle, which is why several boutiques use bridal store software . With offerings such as that of Appointy, you can maximise your time by using intake forms to collect information like waist sizes, the number of guests visiting, etc. to reduce in-store time .

You may consider having an online consultation over Zoom, to get an understanding of what the bride is looking for and prepare those samples. If you’re on a particularly tight budget, you can even consider starting an online bridal boutique.

Additionally:  1. Appointy and Zoom Integration for Businesses 2. Create and Use Intake Forms for your Service-based Business

e. Hire the dream team

Bridal salon consultants helping a woman wear her wedding gown

Consider how often you want to be in the shop, handling the day-to-day business, and if you can afford to hire more than one employee. If you start a small bridal boutique, you may only need to hire one or two employees. If you open a larger bridal shop or perhaps grow a large client list, you will likely need to hire more employees to keep up with client demand.

  • While a bridal store consultant does not need to have a specific degree, certain skills and experience will help them service your brides seamlessly.
  • Screen applicants by looking closely at their resumes for relevant customer service experience and comfort working with people.
  • During the job interview, ask them about their previous work experience and have them demonstrate their ability to interact with customers .

Experience in the fashion industry is also beneficial since consultants can suggest styles that complement different body types. With knowledge of materials, how different cuts sit, and how to pair accessories with different dresses, your bridal consultants will be able to curate a highly personalized shopping experience for your brides.

5. Plan your promotional activities

People toasting wine glasses and celebrating the opening of bridal shop

Congratulations! It is time to cut the big ribbon, but not before you lay out your marketing and launch strategy. Before you open a bridal salon, we suggest you establish your “wow-factor” on every social media account and website as well. These efforts play a significant role in driving awareness and interest around your brand well before the D-day and keep you booked and busy from the get-go.

a. Establish your boutique’s web presence

  • Your suppliers will mostly have their websites – and if you become a valued stockist you may be listed on their site. Some suppliers advertise in bridal magazines, which can provide you with another opportunity for your shop to be featured as a stockist . Ask your suppliers about these options.
  • Check out bridal, fashion, and beauty features in the local press and take part if your advertising budget allows. Some newspapers and magazines offer free editorial space to their advertisers – push for this .
  • Get your business listed on Google My Business : Google gets traffic of almost 3.5 billion per day ! By listing your business on Google My Business, you not only improve your local SEO ranking but also increase your visibility owing to the incredible number of daily visitors of Google.
  • Add your business to Reserve with Google : To help the local businesses further and improve the user experience, Google has introduced “Reserve with Google”. It enables the users to directly book appointments with the businesses and reduces drop-offs to a great extent.

Additionally: How can Reserve with Google Help a Local Business Earn More!

  • Create a website : Developing a website gives you credibility and can help you get more clients for your business. It highlights your services and adding the testimonials of happy brides on the website can go a long way. Linda Hurford of Chic and Elegant says “We are often recommended to others by our customers and are always delighted by this. It is wonderful to hear what a difference our service has made to people and we have many testimonials left on our website and social media pages. ” You may also want to have a booking system added to your website.

Additionally:  How to Add an Online Booking System to your Website

  • Set up social media accounts : Social media is one of the best places you can get your customers from. Understand on what platforms your audience is the most active and leverage the platform to your advantage.

Bride twirling in a wedding dress

  • Tip: Celebrate the “Say Yes to the Dress” moment! Things can get emotional when a bride finds her dream gown, so make her feel special. Capturing this moment also makes for great content for your social media accounts. For instance, Bride & Co. give their brides a celebratory sign for a picture with their bridal party, which with their permission, they post on social media channels. They also give them a bottle of fizz to take away and celebrate with their bridal party.

Platforms like Instagram and Facebook offer a “Book” button to users with business accounts. Instead of redirecting them to another website or link, they can complete the entire booking in the app interface itself! If you are not integrated with an online booking system for bridal boutiques, then no worries – Appointy has you covered.

Additionally:  1. How to Add the Instagram Book Button to Your Business Profile 2. How to Set Up Facebook Appointments on Your Business Page

b. And now, you can officially open!

Encourage clients to visit as soon as you open your bridal shop by offering special pricing and pushing your advertising to get the word out. You may decide to hold a promotion for the first 100 customers in the store on opening day, or a discount on a certain item or product during opening week. In-store promotions are crucial , too – such as designer days, and Valentine’s, Easter, and Christmas events.

Some final advice from Jane:

  • The best time to open a bridal boutique business is September . Most brides will start looking then for a wedding the following year. January is also a good time as brides getting married later in the same year will start looking then.
  • Keep opening times simple and regular – for example, 10–4 Monday to Friday, 9–5 Saturday. Open the same number of days as the shops around you.

Closing Remarks

And there you have it, a comprehensive guide on how to open a bridal shop! The bridal store business can be tough to crack- there are several players in the market and the competition is intense. However, a diverse and inclusive collection of samples, coupled with exemplary service can put you at the top of your game. Start small and focus on a niche- as your clientele grows, expand your bridal business to bridesmaids’ dresses, jewelry, tuxedos, or even rentals!

White heels and a bridal bouquet

Step 2: hone your idea.

Now that you know what’s involved in starting a bridal shop, it’s a good idea to hone your concept in preparation to enter a competitive market.

Market research could give you the upper hand even if you’ve got the perfect product. Conducting robust market research is crucial, as it will help you better understand your customers, your competitors, and the broader business landscape.

Analyze your competitors

Research bridal shops in your area to examine their products, price points, and customer reviews.

  • Make a list of bridal shops that offer similar products.
  • Review your competitors’ products – their features, pricing, and quality – and marketing strategies
  • Check out their online reviews and ratings on Google, Yelp, and Facebook to get an idea of what their customers like and dislike.
  • Identify your competitors’ strengths and weaknesses.

This should identify areas where you can strengthen your business and gain a competitive edge to make better business decisions.

Why? Identify an opportunity

You’re looking for a market gap to fill. For instance, maybe the local market is missing a bridal boutique that also offers prom dresses, or a bridal shop that sells designer wedding dresses.

bridal dress business plan

You might consider targeting a niche, such as colorful bridal gowns.

This could jumpstart your word-of-mouth marketing and attract clients right away.

What? Determine your products or services

In addition to wedding dresses, you could offer bridal accessories, bridesmaid and flower girl dresses, and prom dresses.

How much should you charge for wedding dresses?

Prices will depend on market prices in your area, but also on your costs to source the dresses and your other costs.

Once you know your costs, use this Step By Step profit margin calculator to determine your mark-up and final price points. Remember, the prices you use at launch should be subject to change if warranted by the market.

Who? Identify your target market

Your target market, of course, will mainly be brides, but it could also be the bride’s parents. You should spread out your marketing to include TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. You could also advertise on bridal blogs.

Where? Choose a bridal shop location

You’ll need to rent out a shop space.  You can find commercial space to rent in your area on sites such as Craigslist , Crexi , and Instant Offices .

When choosing a commercial space, you may want to follow these rules of thumb:

  • Central location accessible via public transport
  • Ventilated and spacious, with good natural light
  • Flexible lease that can be extended as your business grows
  • Ready-to-use space with no major renovations or repairs needed

Step 3: Brainstorm a Bridal Shop Name

Your business name is your business identity, so choose one that encapsulates your objectives, services, and mission in just a few words. You probably want a name that’s short and easy to remember, since much of your business, and your initial business in particular, will come from word-of-mouth referrals.

Here are some ideas for brainstorming your business name:

  • Short, unique, and catchy names tend to stand out
  • Names that are easy to say and spell tend to do better
  • Name should be relevant to your product or service offerings
  • Ask around — family, friends, colleagues, social media — for suggestions
  • Including keywords, such as “bridal shop” or “bridal salon”, boosts SEO
  • Name should allow for expansion, for ex: “Eternal Celebrations” over “Luxury Brides”
  • Avoid location-based names that might hinder future expansion
  • Use online tools like the Step by Step Business Name Generator . Just type in a few keywords and hit “generate” and you’ll have dozens of suggestions at your fingertips.

Once you’ve got a list of potential names, visit the website of the US Patent and Trademark Office to make sure they are available for registration and check the availability of related domain names using our Domain Name Search tool. Using “.com” or “.org” sharply increases credibility, so it’s best to focus on these.

Find a Domain

Powered by GoDaddy.com

Finally, make your choice among the names that pass this screening and go ahead and reserve your business name with your state, start the trademark registration process, and complete your domain registration and social media account creation.

Your business name is one of the key differentiators that sets your business apart. Once you pick a name, reserve it and start with the branding, it’s hard to switch to a new name. So be sure to carefully consider your choice before moving forward.

Step 4: Create a Bridal Shop Business Plan

Every business needs a plan. This will function as a guidebook to take your startup through the launch process and maintain focus on your key goals. A business plan also enables potential partners and investors to better understand your company and its vision:

  • Executive Summary : Brief overview of the entire business plan; should be written after the plan is complete.
  • Business Overview : Overview of the company, vision, mission, ownership, and corporate goals.
  • Product and Services : Describe your offerings in detail.
  • Market Analysis : Assess market trends such as variations in demand and prospects for growth, and do a SWOT analysis .
  • Competitive Analysis : Analyze main competitors, assessing their strengths and weaknesses, and create a list of the advantages of your services.
  • Sales and Marketing : Examine your companies’ unique selling propositions (USPs) and develop sales, marketing, and promotional strategies.
  • Management Team : Overview of management team, detailing their roles and professional background, along with a corporate hierarchy.
  • Operations Plan : Your company’s operational plan includes procurement, office location, key assets and equipment, and other logistical details.
  • Financial Plan : Three years of financial planning, including startup costs, break-even analysis, profit and loss estimates, cash flow, and balance sheet.
  • Appendix : Include any additional financial or business-related documents.

what to include in a business plan

If you’ve never created a business plan, it can be an intimidating task. You might consider hiring a business plan specialist to create a top-notch business plan for you.

Step 5: Register Your Business

Registering your business is an absolutely crucial step — it’s the prerequisite to paying taxes, raising capital, opening a bank account, and other guideposts on the road to getting a business up and running.

Plus, registration is exciting because it makes the entire process official. Once it’s complete, you’ll have your own business!

Choose where to register your company

Your business location is important because it can affect taxes, legal requirements, and revenue. Most people will register their business in the state where they live, but if you are planning to expand, you might consider looking elsewhere, as some states could offer real advantages when it comes to bridal shops.

If you’re willing to move, you could really maximize your business! Keep in mind, it’s relatively easy to transfer your business to another state.

Choose your business structure

Business entities come in several varieties, each with its pros and cons. The legal structure you choose for your bridal shop will shape your taxes, personal liability, and business registration requirements, so choose wisely.

Here are the main options:

  • Sole Proprietorship – The most common structure for small businesses makes no legal distinction between company and owner. All income goes to the owner, who’s also liable for any debts, losses, or liabilities incurred by the business. The owner pays taxes on business income on his or her personal tax return.
  • General Partnership – Similar to a sole proprietorship, but for two or more people. Again, owners keep the profits and are liable for losses. The partners pay taxes on their share of business income on their personal tax returns.
  • Limited Liability Company ( LLC ) – Combines the characteristics of corporations with those of sole proprietorships or partnerships. Again, the owners are not personally liable for debts.  Here’s how to form an LLC .
  • C Corp – Under this structure, the business is a distinct legal entity and the owner or owners are not personally liable for its debts. Owners take profits through shareholder dividends, rather than directly. The corporation pays taxes, and owners pay taxes on their dividends, which is sometimes referred to as double taxation.  Read how to start a corporation here .
  • S Corp – An S-Corporation refers to the tax classification of the business but is not a business entity. An S-Corp can be either a corporation or an LLC , which just need to elect to be an S-Corp for tax status. In an S-Corp, income is passed through directly to shareholders, who pay taxes on their share of business income on their personal tax returns.

types of business structures

We recommend that new business owners choose LLC as it offers liability protection and pass-through taxation while being simpler to form than a corporation. You can form an LLC in as little as five minutes using an online LLC formation service. They will check that your business name is available before filing, submit your articles of organization , and answer any questions you might have.

Step 6: Register for Taxes

The final step before you’re able to pay taxes is getting an Employer Identification Number , or EIN. You can file for your EIN online or by mail or fax: visit the IRS website to learn more. Keep in mind, if you’ve chosen to be a sole proprietorship you can simply use your social security number as your EIN.

Once you have your EIN, you’ll need to choose your tax year. Financially speaking, your business will operate in a calendar year (January–December) or a fiscal year, a 12-month period that can start in any month. This will determine your tax cycle, while your business structure will determine which taxes you’ll pay.

bridal dress business plan

The IRS website also offers a tax-payers checklist , and taxes can be filed online.

It is important to consult an accountant or other professional to help you with your taxes to ensure you are completing them correctly.

Step 7: Fund your Business

Securing financing is your next step and there are plenty of ways to raise capital:

  • Bank loans: This is the most common method but getting approved requires a rock-solid business plan and strong credit history.
  • SBA-guaranteed loans: The Small Business Administration can act as guarantor, helping gain that elusive bank approval via an SBA-guaranteed loan .
  • Government grants: A handful of financial assistance programs help fund entrepreneurs. Visit Grants.gov to learn which might work for you.
  • Friends and Family: Reach out to friends and family to provide a business loan or investment in your concept. It’s a good idea to have legal advice when doing so because SEC regulations apply.
  • Crowdfunding:  Websites like  Kickstarter  and  Indiegogo  offer an increasingly popular low-risk option, in which donors fund your vision. Entrepreneurial crowdfunding sites like  Fundable  and  WeFunder  enable multiple investors to fund your business.
  • Personal: Self-fund your business via your savings or the sale of property or other assets.

Bank and SBA loans are probably the best option, other than friends and family, for funding a bridal shop business. You might also try crowdfunding if you have an innovative concept.

types of business financing

Step 8: Apply for Business Licenses/Permits

Starting a bridal shop business requires obtaining a number of licenses and permits from local, state, and federal governments.

Federal regulations, licenses, and permits associated with starting your business include doing business as (DBA), health licenses and permits from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration ( OSHA ), trademarks, copyrights, patents, and other intellectual properties, as well as industry-specific licenses and permits.

You may also need state-level and local county or city-based licenses and permits. The license requirements and how to obtain them vary, so check the websites of your state, city, and county governments or contact the appropriate person to learn more.

You could also check this SBA guide for your state’s requirements, but we recommend using MyCorporation’s Business License Compliance Package . They will research the exact forms you need for your business and state and provide them to ensure you’re fully compliant.

This is not a step to be taken lightly, as failing to comply with legal requirements can result in hefty penalties.

If you feel overwhelmed by this step or don’t know how to begin, it might be a good idea to hire a professional to help you check all the legal boxes.

Step 9: Open a Business Bank Account

Before you start making money, you’ll need a place to keep it, and that requires opening a bank account .

Keeping your business finances separate from your personal account makes it easy to file taxes and track your company’s income, so it’s worth doing even if you’re running your bridal shop business as a sole proprietorship. Opening a business bank account is quite simple, and similar to opening a personal one. Most major banks offer accounts tailored for businesses — just inquire at your preferred bank to learn about their rates and features.

Banks vary in terms of offerings, so it’s a good idea to examine your options and select the best plan for you. Once you choose your bank, bring in your EIN (or Social Security Number if you decide on a sole proprietorship), articles of incorporation, and other legal documents and open your new account.

Step 10: Get Business Insurance

Business insurance is an area that often gets overlooked yet it can be vital to your success as an entrepreneur. Insurance protects you from unexpected events that can have a devastating impact on your business.

Here are some types of insurance to consider:

  • General liability: The most comprehensive type of insurance, acting as a catch-all for many business elements that require coverage. If you get just one kind of insurance, this is it. It even protects against bodily injury and property damage.
  • Business Property: Provides coverage for your equipment and supplies.
  • Equipment Breakdown Insurance: Covers the cost of replacing or repairing equipment that has broken due to mechanical issues.
  • Worker’s compensation: Provides compensation to employees injured on the job.
  • Property: Covers your physical space, whether it is a cart, storefront, or office.
  • Commercial auto: Protection for your company-owned vehicle.
  • Professional liability: Protects against claims from a client who says they suffered a loss due to an error or omission in your work.
  • Business owner’s policy (BOP): This is an insurance plan that acts as an all-in-one insurance policy, a combination of the above insurance types.

types of business insurance

Step 11: Prepare to Launch

As opening day nears, prepare for launch by reviewing and improving some key elements of your business.

Essential software and tools

Being an entrepreneur often means wearing many hats, from marketing to sales to accounting, which can be overwhelming. Fortunately, many websites and digital tools are available to help simplify many business tasks.

You may want to use industry-specific software, such as Lightspeed , BridalLive , or Poppy , to manage your inventory, appointments, purchases, and sales.

  • Popular web-based accounting programs for smaller businesses include Quickbooks , Freshbooks , and Xero .
  • If you’re unfamiliar with basic accounting, you may want to hire a professional, especially as you begin. The consequences for filing incorrect tax documents can be harsh, so accuracy is crucial.

Create a website

Website development is crucial because your site is your online presence and needs to convince prospective clients of your expertise and professionalism. You can create your own website using services like WordPress , Wix , or Squarespace . This route is very affordable, but figuring out how to build a website can be time-consuming. If you lack tech-savvy, you can hire a web designer or developer to create a custom website for your business.

Your customers are unlikely to find your website, however, unless you follow Search Engine Optimization (SEO) practices. SEO will help your website appear closer to the top in relevant search results, a crucial element for increasing sales.

Make sure that you optimize calls to action on your website. Experiment with text, color, size, and position of calls to action such as “Reserve Now”. This can sharply increase purchases.

Online Marketing

Some of your business will come from the casual passerby or online visitors, but you should still invest in digital marketing! Getting the word out is especially important for new businesses, as it’ll boost customer and brand awareness.

Here are some powerful digital marketing strategies for small businesses:

  • Facebook: Great platform for paid advertising, allows you to target specific demographics, like men under age 50 in the Cleveland area.
  • Instagram: Same benefits as Facebook but with different target audiences. It’s a very good platform for creative businesses.
  • TikTok: This social media platform has over 1 billion monthly active users and it is used primarily by a younger demographic.
  • Google and Yelp: For businesses that rely on local clientele, getting listed on Yelp and Google My Business can be crucial to generating awareness and customers.
  • Email marketing/newsletter – Send regular emails to customers and prospects. Make them personal.
  • Start a blog – Start a blog and post regularly. Change up your content and share on multiple sites.
  • Paid ads on social media – Choose sites that will reach your target market and do targeted ads.
  • Pay – per-click marketing – Use Google AdWords to perform better in searches. Research your keywords first.

Take advantage of your website, social media presence and real-life activities to increase awareness of your offerings and build your brand.

Traditional Marketing

Traditional marketing is any form of marketing that uses offline media to reach an audience. Some options that might work for a bridal shop business include:

  • Signage – Put up eye-catching signage at your shop and website
  • Flyering – Distribute flyers in your neighborhood
  • Sponsor events – You can pay to be a sponsor at events that are relevant to your target market
  • Seek out referrals – Offer incentives to generate customer referrals to new clients.
  • Press releases – Do press releases about new products, sales, etc.

Focus on USPs

Unique selling propositions, or USPs, are the characteristics of a product or service that sets it apart from the competition. Customers today are inundated with buying options, so you’ll have a real advantage if they are able to quickly grasp how your bridal shop meets their needs or wishes. It’s wise to do all you can to ensure your USPs stand out on your website and in your marketing and promotional materials, stimulating buyer desire.

Global pizza chain Domino’s is renowned for its USP: “Hot pizza in 30 minutes or less, guaranteed.” Signature USPs for your bridal shop business could be:

  • Sip champagne while you find the perfect wedding gown
  • Designer wedding dresses – get the luxury you deserve
  • Bridal gowns for less

unique selling proposition

You may not like to network or use personal connections for business gain. But your personal and professional networks likely offer considerable untapped business potential. Maybe that Facebook friend you met in college is now running a bridal shop business, or a LinkedIn contact of yours is connected to dozens of potential clients. Maybe your cousin or neighbor has been working in bridal shops for years and can offer invaluable insight and industry connections.

The possibilities are endless, so it’s a good idea to review your personal and professional networks and reach out to those with possible links to or interest in bridal shops. You’ll probably generate new customers or find companies with which you could establish a partnership.

Step 12: Build Your Team

If you’re starting out small from a home office, you may not need any employees. But as your business grows, you will likely need workers to fill various roles. Potential positions for a bridal shop business include:

  • Store Clerks – assist customers, make sales
  • Seamstress – make alterations
  • Marketing Lead – create and implement marketing strategies
  • General Manager – accounting, inventory management

At some point, you may need to hire all of these positions or simply a few, depending on the size and needs of your business. You might also hire multiple workers for a single role or a single worker for multiple roles, again depending on need.

Free-of-charge methods to recruit employees include posting ads on popular platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, or Jobs.com. You might also consider a premium recruitment option, such as advertising on Indeed , Glassdoor , or ZipRecruiter . Further, if you have the resources, you could consider hiring a recruitment agency to help you find talent.

Step 13: Run a Bridal Shop – Start Making Money!

Weddings are back in full force with the pandemic winding down, so now could be a great time to start a bridal shop. You’ll be helping lovely brides find the dress of their dreams, and making a nice profit at the same time. Who knows, maybe your shop could expand and become the next David’s Bridal.

You’ve got the business know-how now, so you’re ready to find a great location and get your bridal shop up and running!

Markups on wedding gowns are high, so a bridal shop can be very profitable. You just need to follow what’s trending to select the right inventory.

You’ll help new brides select dresses and measure them for alterations needed. You may also have customers come in by appointment.

A bridal shop can grow by adding new locations, or even by franchising. David’s Bridal is an example of a bridal shop that grew significantly.

Theoretically, you could have a bridal shop and take clients by appointment only. You may lose customers, though, if you can’t book appointments at convenient times.

If you love love and have stellar organizational skills, you may have considered starting a business in the wedding industry. When it comes to how to start a wedding planning business, it pays to keep calm and carry on. In fact, these very qualities have helped generate a growing income stream for Eileen Kaden Dean, owner of a successful wedding planning business in the New York City and New Jersey area.

“To be successful in this business, you have to stay calm and realize that a wedding emergency isn't your emergency. You can’t make the stress about you because it’s not your day,” says Kaden Dean, owner of An Affair to Remember and a go-to wedding planner.

Kaden Dean, who opened her company more than a decade ago, is among the many small business owners who make up the nearly $60 billion wedding services industry in the U.S. The lucrative industry covers an array of wedding service providers, including wedding venues, apparel retailers, florists, photographers, and wedding planners, according to market research firm IBISWorld.

The average wedding in the U.S. cost over $44,000 in 2018, according to Brides.com. Wedding costs vary greatly depending on where you live and your budget, but Manhattan is the most expensive place to get married, with the average couple spending a whopping $96,910 according to The Knot.

Although websites like The Knot and WeddingWire make it easier for couples to plan their big day themselves, many still turn to professionals like Kaden Dean. An Affair to Remember helps plan the wedding, deals with vendors, and coordinates the chain of events at the wedding and reception to make sure the day goes off without a hitch. In a nutshell, wedding planners are in the business of creating happiness and keeping everything organized, so the couple doesn’t have to worry about all the little (and big) things, says Kaden Dean.

If you're wondering how to start a wedding planning business, know that there are many moving parts, from picking out a bridal dress and venue to choosing invitations, to hiring a band or DJ, to selecting a menu. And the list goes on. Even small weddings—in vogue right now—aren't as simple to plan as you might think.

“There’s a need for wedding planners as couples are busy doing other things, like looking to buy a house and working long hours in their careers. Having someone to manage things is attractive, and this way couples can enjoy themselves and be present on their wedding day,” says Kaden Dean.

How to start a wedding planning business in 7 steps

There are a ton of different ways you can learn how to start a wedding planning business, but we'll give you a few steps to help you get your business started.

Step 1: Choose the type of wedding business you want to start and a name

Before you can do much else, you need to decide what kind of services you want your wedding planning business to offer. Wedding planners can offer all types of different services, and you should pick which ones you'll offer before you get to the nitty-gritty of planning your business and setting it up. You should also choose a business name during this step, and check with your state's Secretary of State resources to make sure that the name you want is available. You can usually do this using an online database on their website.

Kaden Dean started her wedding planning business out of a bridal dress store in New Jersey and expanded it from there. Her business offers everything from the full package to smaller day-of planning.

Although her clientele is in the greater New York area, Kaden Dean recognizes that not all couples can afford to spend upward of $50,000 on their weddings, which is part of the reason she offers several packages. Deciding what types of services and packages your own wedding planning business will offer will be important as you plan the business, market your services, and meet with potential clients.

For context, An Affair to Remember offers three pricing packages:

1. Full planning

For this most expensive option, Kaden Dean will plan the entire event from soup to nuts. This includes helping couples find the perfect venue, lining up all the vendors, helping choose invitations and centerpieces, and just about everything else. “Sometimes I even help pick the colors of the ties.”

The cost: about $5,000 and up.

2. Day of the wedding

This least expensive option is ideal for couples who want to do the planning themselves, but need some organizational help on the day of the wedding. For a typical wedding where Kaden Dean is hired for the day only, she creates a minute-to-minute timeline of when events will happen, like the hour the flowers will be delivered to the site and the exact time when the bridesmaids will arrive. On the big day, Kaden Dean is there to ensure that all goes according to plan.

She also handles any snafus. “One time a couple in the wedding party left a diaper bag in a taxi with their passports in it.” She went to work and tracked down the diaper bag, so that the couple could participate in the wedding stress-free. An hour later, the bag arrived at the venue.

The cost: about $1,750 to $2,250. The exact pricing depends on the amount of time Kaden Dean puts in, the number of assistants hired, and so on.

3. Day of “plus”

This is An Affair to Remember’s most popular offering. Couples hiring Kaden Dean for this package will plan their own weddings but rely on her to handle events on the wedding day, as well as any last-minute planning issues. “I take everything they have, shake it out, and see what pockets are missing to make sure everything is cohesive.” This package usually entails five hours of consultation time, 12 hours on the day of the wedding, one hour for the rehearsal, and 15 hours of virtual legwork to put all the ducks in a row.

The cost: about $2,500 to $3,000.

Step 2: Choose a business entity

The next step in starting a wedding planning business is deciding how you'll structure your business for legal and tax purposes. You'll likely want to choose a business entity that protects you personally from any legal ramifications your wedding planning business might face. A great option for this would be to choose a limited liability company (LLC) as your business entity. An LLC is a registered business in which owners are not personally liable for the business's debts or obligations. You might also choose a limited liability partnership if you want to have a business partner but the protections an LLC can offer you. Once you choose a business entity you can move on to step 3 which is writing your business plan.

You'll also want to register the business with the state once you have the entity and name decided on. Now would be a great time to consult a business attorney familiar with your type of business who can help you make sure everything is up to par and that you aren't missing any steps. This person can also help you choose which business entity is best for your wedding planning business.

Step 3: Write a detailed business plan

If you're starting a wedding planning business, hopefully, you're already a good planner and this step should come naturally to you. You'll need to write a business plan before you can get your business up and running. You can use a business plan template or business plan software to make the process easier, but there are some specific things you should be sure to include in it, no matter how you write it.

You should include a summary of your business in the plan as well as a market analysis, a detailed list of the products and services you'll offer, your marketing and sales plan, your financial plan and projections, and more. Think of your business plan for a roadmap that will lead you through the early stages of building your business and making it profitable.

Your business plan should also include some of the vendors and any other businesses you plan on working with. During the first year of starting her business, Kaden Dean focused on developing such relationships. “It was a challenging first year, but I spent the time introducing myself to the local wedding vendors so I could find people to recommend and work with. I set the groundwork for my business and established myself.”

An Affair to Remember’s start-up costs the first year maxed out at $10,000, including the rent and furniture for the small space in the bridal shop, along with signage, business cards and brochures, a website, and advertising on WeddingWire. Kaden Dean also had to pay to attend bridal shows, hire an assistant to help her track advertising inquiries, and cover her childcare costs. The costs Kaden Dean had are the kind you should plan to face and include in the financial section of your business plan.

Step 4: Get an EIN

If you plan to hire employees to help run your wedding planning business, you'll need to obtain an EIN, also known as an employer identification number. However, even if your business is a one-person show at the moment, you'll likely want to get an employer identification number for your business to make things easier on yourself down the line. The good news is that it's fairly easy to apply for an employer identification number and you can apply online through the IRS' website and get one in a matter of minutes.

An EIN comes with a number of benefits and can be extremely helpful for your business. It can help you when it comes time to file your business taxes, get a business credit card, open a business bank account, or any other number of business necessities.

Step 5: Get a business bank account and business credit card

Now that you have an EIN, you'll use this number when applying to open a business checking account and business credit card . This next step of starting a wedding planning business is crucial, as you'll want to keep your business finances separate from your personal finances. When you're still working on setting up your wedding planning business maybe you'll be working out of your house as a home-based business or maybe you'll have a small storefront. Either way, you'll probably want to spend on some decor, or at least on some marketing products, and you'll likely want a credit card to use for that.

Keeping the business finances completely separate from your personal finances will be huge when it comes time to file your taxes and it will help you boost your business credit score as well.

Step 6: Get any funding you need

The next step in starting a wedding planning business? Funding your new venture. The startup costs associated with opening a wedding planning business don't have to be too high, especially if you're working out of your home or another business's space. However, you will still have some upfront expenses you may not have the savings to cover. In that case, this is the time when you might need to work on getting a business loan or other funding option.

And because you have a great business plan already, you can use that to show potential investors or lenders that you have a well thought out business and a plan for turning a profit quickly. Of course, getting a loan as a new business isn't always easy. If you're finding your options to be limited, you might turn to a 0% introductory APR business credit card as an interest-free loan of sorts. With this type of credit card, you won't pay any interest on the balance you carry over for the length of the introductory offer (this will depend on the card, but at most will be 12 months). Just make sure you have a plan to pay off your balance by the end of this intro period, when a variable APR will set in, or this won't be the most effective funding tool.

Step 7: Market your services and start doing business

Once your wedding planning business is up and running and have the services you're offering laid out, you can start marketing them and hopefully bringing on new business. Consider marketing at trade shows and with any bridal boutiques in your area, or forge relationships with wedding venues to find clients. Once you get your first client, you're off to the races and can consider yourself fully in business.

The brides and grooms you work with will be grateful for your services and you can help them make their special day as stress-free as possible.

"Hiring a planner is so important to your big day," says Kaden Dean. The last thing a bride needs is for someone else to show up to handle the details: “They trust me. When you hire me, you get me. I’ve never missed a wedding.”

And keep in mind, happy customers can provide referrals and word-of-mouth marketing that can give you business the boost it needs to take off.

The bottom line

If you want to survive and thrive in the wedding planning business, you’ve got to put on a happy face and mean it—all the time. Also, you’ve got to be nice—all the time, says Kaden Dean.

It might seem like a simple recipe for success, but if you do a great job and you’re happy and people know it, the referrals will flow and you’ll stay busy, she says.

Bridal Gown Shop Business Plan

Start your own bridal gown shop business plan

Recycled Dreams

Recycled Dreams will provide rentals for all the necessary dresses required for a wedding including the bridal gown, bridesmaid, matron or maid of honor, and flower girl dresses. In addition to the dresses, shoes can be rented as well. The bridesmaid’s dresses are particularly useful for rental since the bridesmaids do not get a choice in the dress they will wear, and even if they do not have to pay for the dress themselves, the dress usually is only worn once and then is stored in the back of the closet for many years, so it is not a good investment to purchase. Recycled Dreams has an on-staff seamstress to make any alterations necessary.

The bridal dress, headpiece, and veil can be rented, or purchased, depending on the whim of the bride. Often the bride will want to keep these items as there is a strong emotional connection with the dress from their wedding.

In addition to the dresses which can be rented or bought, Recycled Dreams will have formed strategic relationships with local service providers for the following services: invitations, flowers, cake, catering, photographer, and travel arrangements for the honeymoon. All of these service providers are researched and tested to ensure top-level service. For each referral made to the strategic partners, Recycled Dreams will receive a small commission.

Bridal Shops are retail outlets that predominantly retail bridal wear, including wedding gowns, veils and other accessories such as shoes, ties, gloves and jewelry. Stores also typically provide alterations, such as hemming, taking in or letting out seams, and lengthening or shortening sleeves. Some of them also go as far as renting wedding gowns and other wedding accessories et al.

A study conducted by IBISWORLD reported that the Bridal Shops industry is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 0.3 percent per year on average during the five years to 2016. In the report, the pointed out that rising disposable income and economic recovery has encouraged consumers to boost their wedding budgets.

On the other hand, the slowly declining marriage rate has stemmed industry gains. Many consumers are choosing to postpone marriage while cohabitation outside the traditional bonds of marriage has grown increasingly common.

Despite declining numbers, couples that marry later in life tend to have higher wedding budgets and can afford more expensive bridal wear, which benefits the industry. Despite positive economic conditions, rising completion and a declining marriage rate are expected to result in industry revenue falling 0.5 percent in 2016 to $2.9 billion.

The Bridal Shop industry is a thriving and profitable business venture in most countries of the world. Statistics has it that in the united states alone, the bridal shop industry generates a whooping sum of well over $3 billion annually from more than 5,306 bridal shop outlets scattered all around the United States of America.

The industry is responsible for the direct employment of well over 46,156 people. Experts project the bridal shop industry to grow at a 0.3 percent annual rate between 2011 and 2016. David’s Bridal can boast of having a lion market share in the industry.

The Bridal Shops industry has minimal barriers to entry, with low start – up capital and no specific licensing requirements.

The majority of bridal shops operate as a one – outlet business and the capital costs of establishing bridal retail outlets are not substantial relative to many other retail industries, such as department stores with chains of outlets all over the country.

On the other hand, the high level of competition and market saturation in a declining industry can prove challenging to aspiring entrepreneurs who want to start their own bridal shop – business. Most players in the bridal shop industry are small- to medium-size establishments that cater to the local community.

Over and above, the bridal shop industry is a profitable industry and it is open for any aspiring entrepreneur to come in and establish his or her business; you can chose to start on a small scale in a street corner like the average mom and pop business or you can chose to start on a large scale with several outlets in key cities.

Our intention of starting just one outlet of our bridal shop in Baton Rouge – Louisiana is to test run the business for a period of 2  to 5 years to know if we will invest more money, expand the business and then open other outlets all across the United States of America.

We are quite aware that there are several bridal shops all over Baton Rouge – Louisiana and even in the same location where we intend locating ours, which is why we are following the due process of establishing a business.

We know that if a proper SWOT analysis is conducted for our business, we will be able to position our business to maximize our strength, leverage on the opportunities that will be available to us, mitigate our risks and be welled equipped to confront our threats.

Isabella & Nancy ™ Bridal Shop, LLC employed the services of an expert HR and Business Analyst with bias in retailing to help us conduct a thorough SWOT analysis and to help us create a Business model that will help us achieve our business goals and objectives.

This is the summary of the SWOT analysis that was conducted for Isabella & Nancy ™ Bridal Shop, LLC;

Our location, the business model we will be operating on (brick and mortar bridal shop and online bridal store), varieties of payment options, wide range of bridal wears and related accessories and our excellent customer service culture will definitely count as a strong strength for Isabella & Nancy ™ Bridal Shop, LLC.

So also our management team members are people who have what it takes to grow a business from start – up to profitability with a record time.

A major weakness that may count against us is the fact that we are a new bridal retail store outlet in Baton Rouge – Louisiana and we don’t have the financial capacity to compete with multi – million dollars bridal shop outlets like David’s Bridal and co when it comes to retailing at a rock bottom prices for all their bridal wears and other wedding accessories.

  • Opportunities:

The fact that we are going to be operating our bridal shop in one of the busiest streets in Baton Rouge – Louisiana provides us with unlimited opportunities to sell or rent our bridal wears and related products to a large number of people.

We have been able to conduct thorough feasibility studies and market survey and we know what our potential clients will be looking for when they visit our bridal shop; we are well positioned to take on the opportunities that will come our way.

Just like any other business, one of the major threats that we are likely going to face is economic downturn. It is a fact that economic downturn affects purchasing / spending power. Another threat that may likely confront us is the arrival of a new bridal shop in same location where ours is located. We are not ruling out the fact that unfavorable government policy can also pose a threat to our business.

Executive Summary

Happy Brides is a registered bridal shop business that has a wide collection of wedding supplies and accessories.

These range from wedding gowns, exquisite jewelries, gloves, bridesmaid gowns, shoes, flower bouquets, groom suits and tux among others. We are located right in the center of Las Vegas’ bustling and booming hub.

We are strategically located because although Las Vegas is known for gambling, it attracts a diverse section of visitors who come for a variety of reasons including weddings. We have ensured our collections are of the best quality. We mostly target middle and upper-class clients. These groups of clients are in abundant supply in Vegas.

  • Our Products

We have an array of wedding merchandize that are eye-catching and luxurious. These will be available for clients who would either want to purchase or rent them. We also provide customizable services where we can alter some wedding gowns to fit the taste of our clients. Groom suits and tuxedos are also available. Other products include jewelry, shoes, bags, purses, and flower bouquets among others.

At Happy Brides, we live by our name by satisfying our clients. Our vision is to own the biggest bride store chain in Nevada. We are deliberately investing our time, effort and expertise into providing services which are second to none in the industry.

  • Our Mission

Wedding ceremonies hold lasting memories for both brides and grooms. We seek to make this occasion even more special by creating flawless designs of bridal attire. We have a collection of beautiful jewelry which we put on display.

Our mission is to make our clients spoiled for choice.

Financing for our bridal shop business will be sourced from a bank loan to the tune of $2,500,000.00. This will be in addition to the savings of $500,000.00 reserved for this purpose. Such loan is repayable in 25 years. Most of these will go into the design of our bridal garments.

We have entered into a partnership with the top jeweler in Las Vegas to showcase some of his collections at our bridal shop.

  • SWOT Analysis

Las Vegas is a bustling city that is ever alive at any time of day or night. For a business to survive in such environment, such business needs to be fully suited or adapted. To examine our potentials, we have done a SWOT analysis that is truly revealing;

Our bridal shop business is driven by excellence. This is evident in the quality of our team. We have a crop of highly skilled and experienced designers. These have worked with major fashion brands in the past.

Also, we have established a network with major businesses like hotels, event planners and rental services. These recommend our business to their circle of clients. We also return this gesture too!

As a business, size counts. We are a bit restricted in our operations as compared to bigger bridal shops with multiple units of stores. These have a better hold of the market and are formidable competitors. We realize this weakness but believe we will eventually overcome it especially with a steady stream of clients through our doors.

  • Opportunities

Opportunities are massive! Our network of businesses is a huge opportunity for us. We will leverage on these by committing to the sustenance of this symbiotic relationship. This helps our desire to expand rapidly into a major bridal shop brand in Nevada.

Threats will arise in the form of unfavorable government policies that will stifle growth. Also, a financial crises happening will adversely affect our bridal shop. The city itself thrives on the health of the financial industry.

Anything negative that happens to it will hit us real hard.

  • Sales Projection

In a city like Vegas, making good sales is inevitable when you do the right things. We have used a conservative approach in analyzing the patronage existing bridal shop businesses attract. This was used in projecting our sales over a 3 year period. The following is what we arrived at;

  • First Financial Year $500,000.00
  • Second Financial Year $900,000.00
  • Third Financial Year $1,300,000.00
  • Target Market

We have a well defined target market. This includes brides-to-be, the would-be groom, bridesmaid and groomsmen.

These set of people are our targets. The bride and groom to be are likely to shop at our bridal shop with their entourage of maids. We are looking at expanding to other cities within Nevada to capture the market too.

  • Competitive Advantage

To be competitive enough, a bridal shop must reinvent. This calls for innovation. At Happy Brides, this is what we are driven by. Our rich supplies of wedding gowns are designed by celebrity designers who have left their mark in the fashion industry.

Although these do not work full time with us, they give us a strong advantage over our competitors as they are easily recognizable brands.

  • Marketing Strategy

Our bridal shop business will be opened with a lot of advertisement that will include billboards, banners and fliers being distributed. This will be in addition to a party which will be thrown to announce our opening.

We will actively collaborate with businesses within our network to promote our collective businesses. We stand to benefit the most initially because these are already experienced businesses.

There you have our bridal shop business plan sample . We have tried to be as brief and direct as possible. Your plan is the foundation of your business. It can be responsible for the growth of your business or for its downfall.

The choice is yours. To avoid the latter, take full charge by carefully writing the plan using real data available to you. The full implementation of this plan is also necessary.

The inventory will consist of wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, headpieces, crinolines, jewelry, shoes, party dresses, more casual dresses, and tuxedo rentals.

I will run the business myself full-time and hire sales assistance as well as a bridal alterations specialist. The store has the potential of employing up to six full-time employees, estimating a minimum of three to start. Position of Marketplace: The items in the bridal line will consist of basic styles in the low to mid-price range appealing to the Wisconsin client. Megan's Bridal Boutique will develop a reputation for dependable service, fair pricing, and reliability.

Client Demographics: Some women will travel all over the state, or farther, to shop for their wedding gowns. The majority of Megan's Bridal Boutique's clients will be limited to the areas surrounding Green Bay. Nine out of 10 women eventually marry although, in general, they are waiting later in life to marry for the first time. Remarriages account for half the weddings taking place nationally. Sixty percent of couples currently living together will eventually get married. What all this means is, although one would think the economy, general trends, and changes in society would have a great impact on marriages, there has been only a 1.5% change in marriage rates over the past 27 years. Where the economy does have a big impact on weddings seems to be generally limited to reception and honeymoon expenses, with a lesser effect on the dollar amount spent on wedding gowns and accessories themselves ( Vows, June/July 1996 issue). According to a recent published study, eight marriages took place per 1000 residents per year. Based on the surrounding area of eastern Wisconsin, Megan's Bridal Boutique will draw from, one can count on 1,888 weddings per year. Each of these couples will spend, on the average, $852.00 for a wedding dress, $167.00 on a headpiece, and $50.00 for shoes. Estimating four attendants per wedding, spending $175 each on dresses and shoes, an additional $1,321,600 can be added. Added together, there are $3,339,872 dollars to be captured in this line alone, per year, in eastern Wisconsin.

Pricing Strategy: To meet the needs of the eastern Wisconsin client, all of Megan's Bridal Boutique's offerings will be in the low to mid price range. Specifically:

Wedding Gowns: $350.00-$800.00 Headpieces: $25.00-$40.00 Bridesmaid Dresses: $100.00-$150.00

Cost: $24,630 start-up inventory cost.

Competition

I have broken down the competition, product line by product line, following each line's inventory description. The overall competition for the bridal line can be broken down into two: local shops (Mary Ann's) and regional shops. I feel the threat created by Mary Ann's can be easily overcome through good service, great selection, and affordable pricing. The competition created by the out-of-town shops will be harder to address. Details of how I will deal with each follow the competition descriptions.

1. Local Competition

Mary Ann's Bridal Salon Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Weaknesses: Mary Ann's Bridal Salon is a very poorly run retail outlet featuring old and outdated stock off the rack. Most merchandise is sold "as is." This shop experiences almost no repeat business and is generally thought of as the last place to go for bridal and prom needs.

Strengths: Mary Ann's has been in business for 40 years (although there have been three different owners). Old warehoused stock originally priced at $500.00 to $1000.00 is bought from other shops and sold at attractive prices of $350.00 to $500.00.

Overcoming Local Competition

Service: Megan's Bridal Boutique will be a cleaner, more attractively designed store offering a variety of guaranteed services at reasonable prices, or in some cases, free services. For example, Mary Ann's charges $8.00 to dye shoes purchased in the store and $15.00 to dye shoes purchased elsewhere. A dye job takes about five minutes. I will dye my shoes for free and charge $5.00 to dye shoes purchased elsewhere.

Although Mary Ann's provides skilled seamstresses for the alterations, pricing is set by the owner on a per dress basis. A client may be told at the time of purchase her alterations will cost $25.00, only to discover upon picking up the dress that the charge is $50.00. Worse yet, many clients are never told there is a charge at all. Megan's Bridal Boutique will have a published list of charges provided at the time a purchase decision is being made. There will be no surprises, and the client will know exactly how much to budget for her total expenses.

Mary Ann's also has a problem getting special orders in the store in a timely manner. All special orders are delivered COD and often the cash is not available, resulting in returns and re-orders. Many suppliers will not deliver until prior problems are reconciled, again resulting in delays. I have found most suppliers have liberal terms and are very willing to work with new accounts. It is only after payment problems occur, and are not resolved, that these shipping problems take place. Megan's Bridal Boutique will be able to get special orders in the store and to the client in a more timely manner by establishing and maintaining good terms with all suppliers.

Pricing: Mary Ann's's pricing has always been high. The idea on management's part has been to price everything high, then offer a "special deal." Megan's Bridal Boutique's pricing will be more modest and clients will know they can find value everyday. I will accomplish this by working with the lower-priced suppliers while maintaining healthy profit margins. The question of course is, why doesn't Mary Ann's do this already? The following scenario will provide an explanation: Mary Ann's used to buy shoes from Supplier A for $12, marking them up to $25. After numerous payment problems, Supplier A refused to deal further with Mary Ann's. Next, Mary Ann's found Supplier B who wholesaled the same shoe for $15. Mary Ann's maintained the selling price of $25 resulting in profit erosion. After the same payment problems occurred with Supplier B, Mary Ann's moved onto Supplier C which charged $17 for the same shoe. This time the cost was passed onto the customer. The shoes are now priced at $33 plus $8 for dyeing. Of course sales have dropped off significantly. This is just one specific example. The same type of thing has happened with dozens of other suppliers covering all lines offered by Mary Ann's. I have already established contact with the "Supplier A" types and will be offering these lower priced, good quality lines.

Stock: Mary Ann's's stock is old and outdated. In fact, I am asked several times per week if Mary Ann's is a used clothing store (these inquiries were made to me while I was an employee there). Megan's Bridal Boutique's stock will be fresh and new. As stock ages, it will be discounted. If still not sold, it will be taken off the rack and stored, until sidewalk sales, and then the price will be drastically slashed. Anything left after that will be donated to charity or destroyed.

2. Regional Competition

Appleton Bridals Appleton, Wisconsin

Weaknesses: Poor management makes shopping at Appleton Bridals a difficult experience. Customers are treated as a bother instead of as an opportunity. Because of the location, most area people assume the prices are considerably higher in general. Actually, their pricing structure is about the same as other shops in the area and they carry the same lines.

Strengths: Location. Appleton Bridals can draw very easily from Green Bay and Oshkosh because of the proximity. Clients from all over eastern Wisconsin will travel to this shop based on the location alone. The town of Appleton has an excellent reputation for being a place to shop for variety and most people will expect Appleton Bridals to be a well run establishment with good selection, but with higher prices. Megan's Bridal Boutique's reputation for good prices and excellent service, as well as a regional advertising plan, will draw many clients away from this shop.

White Bird Bridal Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Weaknesses: Poor sales techniques, lackluster stock, and ugly displays explain why people will travel all over Wisconsin to shop for their bridal needs instead of spending their money at White Bird. The general atmosphere in this shop would be fine for a discount store or a warehouse, but not for a shop which sells women's clothing for special occasions. The pricing structure is similar to other bridal shops and offers no real advantage for clients.

Strengths: The Apple Blossom is also a flower shop specializing in bridal arrangements. The advantage to this is increased traffic, but it also adds to the junky atmosphere. The Apple Blossom also spends a considerable amount of money on TV advertising during the prom season.

CJ's Bridal Shop Fond du Lac, Wisconsin

Weaknesses: This store is very difficult to shop in due to the way the dresses are literally packed into one place. I found it hard to pull even one dress out to examine and the poor lighting made it even more difficult to see what I had my hands on. The prices were average and the displays nonexistent. It was a chore to even get around the place.

Strengths: They carried almost every line available and the sales staff was quite helpful. Although they do no advertising in this area, many potential clients from eastern Wisconsin will delay their purchasing decision until they have made the trip down to Fond du Lac, not only for wedding dresses, but even more so for prom dresses.

Sarah's Bridals Cheboygan, Wisconsin

Weaknesses: Sarah's owner recently moved to this smaller facility from a large and beautiful location. She is suffering from burnout and has cut back considerably on her inventory. She no longer has the commitment or interest in her business she once had.

Strengths: This is a well-run attractive shop with standard pricing and good service.

Other Shops to Be Explored:

I Do Bridals, Green Bay, Wisconsin Bridal Fashions, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Bridals on the Bay, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Meeting the Regional Competition

Advertising: Most of my ad dollars will be spent on small awareness-generating, space ads in nonlocal newspapers. Money will also be spent on listings in the surrounding areas, including Milwaukee's Yellow Pages and phone guides. Some radio ads will be placed during the grand opening weeks. In addition, different promotions will take place throughout the year.

Line: Party Dresses and Other Dresses

Description: A variety of party and less formal dresses will be offered. These dresses will appeal to the client who wants to go all out for that special occasion such as the prom, New Year's Eve, cruises, plus off-the-rack dresses for work or formal occasions will be available. The dresses will be strictly off-the-rack ranging in sizes 3-24 with the emphasis on sizes 10-18.

Position in Marketplace: Green Bay offers little to the public in the way of dresses. The few women's shops currently open in town offer only a handful of casual dress styles to choose from. The majority of dress purchases made by women in Green Bay are made out of town, usually during day, or weekend-long shopping trips. Those who do not plan ahead, and find themselves in need of a lastminute outfit, are simply out of luck. Megan's Bridal Boutique will be filling a need in the community by offering a wide selection of dresses at a good price. No longer will having to "dress up" automatically mean an out-of-town shopping trip. By keeping Green Bay women in town for their dress purchases, other monies often spent on these trips will also remain in Green Bay. In addition, regional shoppers will be brought in spending their money not only at Megan's Bridal Boutique, but in other area retail establishments and restaurants as well.

Client Demographics: Women, age 16-50, will travel regionally to shop for these types of dresses. The party dresses will appeal to the younger age of this market segment in general, other lines appealing of the mid to upper age range. There will be considerable crossover depending on the type of event the client is planning.

Pricing Strategy: Prices will be in the low to mid range to appeal to the Wisconsin client who does not want to spend a lot on a dress she may wear only a few times at the most. These dresses will range in price from $75.00-$150.00.

Cost: Start-up cost for this line will be $12,000.00 (200 dresses at $60 per dress).

Competition: There are no other dress shops in the immediate area. Several retail outlets in Green Bay offer a few dresses to choose from, and only a very limited selection is available.

Weaknesses: Very limited selection available. A person dress shopping in Green Bay can see all there is to see in five minutes at local dress shops since they carry only a handful of dresses which are of low quality or overpriced (respectively).

Strengths: There are basically no competitor strengths in this category.

Line: Tuxedos

Description: One full-service line will be offered which will include a variety of tuxedos (tails, double-breasted, shawl, and notch collar, as well as the popular Western style), shirts, shoes, ties, cumberbuns, and vests. Clients will be able to customize their choices with a wide variety of color-coordinating accessories. Tuxedos offer the opportunity to bring in thousands of dollars worth of business per month, while taking up only a few square feet of selling space.

Client Demographics: The majority of clients for this line will not be the actual decision makers. The decision makers will be the party dates and brides who will pick out the tuxedos she wants to accessorize her outfit. The draw will be limited to Green Bay and the immediate area.

Pricing Strategy: Prices will be at industry suggested retail pricing of $65.00 to $95.00 for the complete outfit.

Cost: The cost to carry this line will be limited to try-on jackets at $1,000 for a selection of 10.

Competition:

Smith's Apparel Green Bay, Wisconsin

Weaknesses: Smith's only edge over the competition in this case is purely by taking advantage of the opportunity to sell to someone who is already in a decision-making state of mind. While the client is making the wedding gown purchase, she is ripe for additional sales such as tuxedos. Once enough trust has been established for her to spend several hundred dollars on a gown, the hardest part of the sale is already complete and add-ons will be relatively easy. In addition, the floor space and initial investment needed to carry tuxedos is so small, it would be foolish not to carry the line.

Strengths: This store will be tough to compete with for several reasons. For one, it's a store carrying men's clothing and, in general, men will feel more comfortable walking into this shop than a dress shop. The reputation and prices are also very good.

Almost every month the business will feature a special event or some type of sale. Window and store front displays will promote the event, as well as a few small local space ads and more frequent non-local space ads. For a real big event, radio will be used to strengthen the promotion. Listed below is an event calendar for the first year. Each promotion will be evaluated and the following year's plan will be based on the successes of prior events. Each year several new ideas will be tried as well.

Bridal Salon Business Plan

In general, the product line, offerings, service, and pricing strategy will remain the same for the first two years, with the following expectations:

  • After a year of doing business, some samples will be old and no longer re-orderable. These items will be significantly discounted and sold off the rack as is.
  • All lines will be expanded to offer more choices, and slow moving stock will be moved from the re-orderable section to the sale rack.
  • The stock will be honed to increase profitability. Research will be conducted to determine what is selling best, most profitable price points, etc.

Client surveys will be conducted. After a wedding, brides will be contacted and asked about the quality of the service, product, and selection. This information will be used to improve the shop and help me determine where to increase my efforts.

At the end of the third year, I plan to purchase my own building and expand the business to offer a larger selection. At this time, the number of employees will be at least six full-time.

August 4, 1997

Mr. Victor Case Executive Vice-President Wisconsin BIDCO, Inc. P.O. Box 170 Milwaukee, WI 00000

Dear Mr. Case:

Attached, please find the information we discussed in our meeting last week, specifically the cash flow analysis, statement of income and expenses for three years, personal financial statement, and balance sheet for my proposed business, Megan's Bridal Boutique.

I am requesting a loan in the amount of $65,000.00 to cover start-up inventory, office and shop expenses, and $5,000.00 working capital for my shop. The business will be wholly owned by me as an individual proprietorship and I plan to run it myself, with the help of one full-time assistant, who will also do the alterations. When the shop is fully established (approximately 3-5 years), it could employ up to six full-time employees at various skill levels.

I have access to $5,000.00 cash and my mother is willing to give me property, valued at approximately $35,000.00 to use as collateral. I also have $3,700.00 in equipment.

I would like to discuss this proposal further with you, prior to your board meeting next week. I can be reached at 616-628-1234. As we discussed, this project must remain confidential as I would have to leave Chicago Paper Company to pursue my dream of owning my own business. I wouldn't want to jeopardize the wonderful relationship I have with my boss if this project fails to get off the ground.

Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

Sincerely, Megan Martin

Hands up if you’re ready to be dazzled! From a ceremony structure designed to float on water to a jaw-dropping reception room with flowers blooming from every service, we’re swooning over every bit of this wedding. If you can believe it, that’s just the beginning. Julia Kaptelova artfully shot every detail, like the ballet performance guests were treated to and snow falling from the ceiling for the first dance! Prepare to be amazed and take a visit to the full gallery .

From About You Decor … Our design is a symbol of dawn and a distant endless horizon. Ahead is a long, happy life without any borders. An international couple, Pavel and Cherry, met in London and have been walking together for many years.

From the Bride, Cherry… My husband and I we decided to have our summer wedding in Moscow because the city is where his roots are. As we knew we were going to have the other wedding ceremony in China, we wanted our Moscow one to be very personal and intimate. We’ve known each other since we were fourteen, together with many of our friends whom we’ve also known for a decade.

I didn’t want to walk down the aisle twice so the plausibility of my request quickly came into discussion. The open pontoon stage was constructed in order to facilitate the bridal entrance on water, although there were concerns about safety as the last thing we wanted was probably a drowned bride before she could get on stage, picture that! I have to say on that day it wasn’t easy to get on the pontoon stage from the boat, in my long gown and high heels. Luckily my bridesmaids still noticed even though they stood the furthest from me on the stage, and helped me out without prior rehearsal. My girls could just tell whenever I needed a hand or maybe they were just so used to my clumsiness. Who knows 😂

We all love our photographer Julia! She’s so talented and her style is so unique. Our beloved host Alex is exceptional who made everyone laugh and cry. It was truly a blessing to have so many kind and beautiful souls on our big day. Thank you all!

If you’ve always been obsessed with the watercolor wedding trend, then this Moscow affair is about to blow your mind. The talented team at Caramel and Latte Decor took inspiration from the ocean waves, blue sky and rays of sunshine to create the most wow-worthy watercolor reception backdrop we’ve ever seen. Oh, and did we mention the tables are in the shape of waves too? Yup. It’s safe to say you  have to check out the full gallery captured perfectly by Julia Kaptelova Photography ! It’s a total dream.

I was shocked, looked at Vova, he was staying on one knee holding amazing Tiffany ring. I was so excited that heard only “Will you be my wife?” and I replied “Of course!” through the tears. After that flowers, champagne and a huge bunch of balloons was bought. We went outside to make them fly on a river embankment, and that exact moment we released them, on the other side of the river I heard loud rumble of the fireworks! It was unbelievable and I was absolutely happy.

We had chosen the best wedding planner, so had no doubt that our wedding will go great. The team of the professionals carefully selected and prepared every single detail. One of the most memorable moments of getting ready process was our pre-wedding video, for shooting it we went to Crimea, and showed to our guests for a first time during our wedding reception. I’s difficult to choose of favorite moments of the day, whole day was so unique! But probably the most memorable were ceremony and seeing all over families and friends together, being so happy and beautiful! If you’re just planning your special day, my recommendation for you would be to fully dive into this wonderful day, don’t lose a moment!

From Caramel .. For the wedding of Alina and Vladimir we had a  floral fantasy with a hint of impressionism on the sea theme, waves, sky and the rays of the sun, coming through the clouds. Searching for modern forms and textures, we have stopped at the smooth wavy lines. The scale form of the art object for the ceremony zone was facilitated by a weightless translucent texture, with accents in the form of flower arrangements emphasizing the basic color palette. In the hall, we chose tables in the form of waves with laconic decor and modern floristics against the background of the view of the mountains as if it was illuminated by thin sunset stripes.

It wasn’t until we read the description behind this wedding day that we fully comprehended that it is, in fact, real life. Let me repeat, this is not a styled shoot. Instead, you’ll find the most romantic Moscow affair inspired by all things art. From lush painterly blooms by  Flowers Lovers , to a Bride crafting an art piece during her boudoir shoot and a day layered in the dreamiest hues planned by Ajur Wedding , these images by  Julia Kaptelova  will make you fall head over flower-lovin heels.

From the wedding planner,  Ajur Wedding … This real wedding is pure inspiration. With each stroke of the brush, the details add to the already ideal picture: one of the most picturesque Moscow areas, the warm day in June, the tenderest and the most beautiful bridal portraits, the ceremony in the greenhouse, wallowing in flowers and sun rays…

Not by chance, we named this wedding “What is love painting?” We wanted to show how a real feeling can turn your life into a work of art. The romantic mood of painting was included in all aspects of the celebration.

The wedding day began with a beautiful picture created by our bride, coming alive with each stroke of her brush. You feel this marvelous atmosphere in Lena’s divine boudoir dress with the airy and almost weightless cape, in her soft curls and certainly happy smile. Add to that the way Daniel is looking at his bride, the peerless flora soaring in the air, the ornamental greenhouse design reflected in the glossy pedestal surface and extending in the chairs’ back design…

The combination of the floral romance paired with modern stylish geometric decor further revealed Lena and Daniels’s character: the bride’s femininity and tenderness alongside the groom’s determination. The flowers were meant to emulate clouds, soaring with their weightless grandeur. The silver, glossy rays of light, the reflection on the smooth surface became stylish accents. The menu and the invitations were decorated with the symbolic, picturesque image of the greenhouse where the ceremony took place.

This wedding design detailed the story of love — the art in, and of– love. Unforgettable at first sight. We hope you will also feel the inspiration and keep these memories in your heart.

A fruit and wine themed wedding? Count me in! And this romantic Moscow celebration captured by Julia Kaptelova is just as decadent as you’d expect from its culinary inspiration, from the boudoir session and the Bride’s dramatic lace-trimmed veil, to the rich red palette and the tastefully incorporated monograms. Head to the gallery  to see the whole event planned by Margarita Moskaleva , because this one, lovelies, is definitely drool-worthy.

bridal dress business plan

From the Bride… We dreamed of a classic celebration – stylish and genteel with traditional family values and an emphasis on our story. Oleg and I are both from the south, so we love southern cuisine and wine, and August, which is when we got married, is the fruitage month. That is why we chose a southern fruit and wine theme for our decor. While we were creating the concept together with our wedding planners, we chose a bright room with light Provencal style outfitted in classic vintage furniture and kitchenware. In addition to that, we wanted our decorations to not just be a simple set of florals, but each have meaning and encompass our values and interests. One of the key elements of the concept became our monogram. It was used not only in prints and the seating plan, but also as the bespoke cake topper.

This wedding may just have won the award for best invitations! After finding out the Bride harbored a lifelong love of writing, 2 Apelsina encouraged Daria to write out her love story as a fairytale. They paired the novella with beautiful illustrations bound in velvet, then sent these charming books to all of the wedding guests. The rest of the wedding is just as swoon-worthy, so scroll on to see it all captured by Julia Kaptelova Photography .

bridal dress business plan

From the Bride… In my childhood, I dreamt about becoming a writer, so our wedding planner encouraged me to write a short novel based on our love story. I did it, then we added some illustrations, and this book covered with velvet became a unique invitation! The venue reminded us of a real Middle Age castle, so we got a sense of the theme for our wedding – a modern fairytale. We were inspired by nature, forest landscapes, and fairytale pictures featuring beautiful royal receptions with their special atmosphere and precise details. The decoration team used lots of greenery, ivy, and roses to create and organic connection between our venue and nature.

The wedding day was absolutely stunning! During the preparation, it seemed to be so far off, but the time passed so quickly! Our ceremony is the best memory of this day – it was so emotional, touching, and beautiful. The florists embellished the stone arch with ivy and greenery, which looked like it was always there, it was so natural! Unique vintage chairs and crystal glasses gave a nod to the Middle Ages at the reception. We decided to share the same table with family to feel even more close. My grandma made presents for the guests – homemade jam, which was beautifully decorated with garden roses.

When the father of the groom  is worth an estimated $6.2 billion (Russian oil baron Mikhail Gutseriev), it should come as no surprise that his son’s, Said Gutseriev, Moscow wedding to 20-year-old Russian heiress Khadija Uzhakhovs’s was a little over-the-top . But the show stopper wasn’t the elaborate floor-to-ceiling rose installation, the nine-tier cake or star-studded performances by Sting, Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez. No, it was the Bride’s fairytale beaded wedding dress from Elie Saab , rumored to have cost more than $1 million.  Get a look at the dress and more of the over-the-top details below!

I’m still not convinced this Moscow wedding, captured to perfection by  Sonya Khegay , isn’t actually an inspiration session—it’s just  that breathtaking. From the beautiful Bride’s gorgeous lace wedding dress and flawless hair and makeup to the pretty pastel color palette and stunning ceremony and reception spaces, this wedding is almost too good to be true. Do yourself a favor and see it all in The Vault now!

From Sonya Khegay … It was the last day of April and still very cold in the morning. The weather forecast wasn’t pleasing and no one expected that the sun would come out, but miracles happen and light rain gave way to the warm rays.

I love how all the details went together, you could feel the harmony in everything throughout the entire wedding day from the morning until the fireworks.

A gentle look of the bride, elegant but so airy and unique decor, the fresh and light atmosphere of early spring and, of course, true happiness in the eyes. My heart becomes so warm from these memories, it is always a pleasure to see the birth of a new family of two loving hearts.

You really can’t go wrong with simple: a beautiful Bride , perfectly pretty petals , loved ones all around. But add in an amazing firework show  to cap off the night and simple just became downright extraordinary. Captured by Lena Elisseva , with assistance by  Katya Butenko , this rustic Russian celebration is simply fantastic. See it all in the Vault right here !

From Lena Eliseeva Photo …  This cozy and warm summer wedding of gorgeous Natalia and Anton was in the middle of June. The young couple decided to organize their wedding themselves, and the day was very personal and touching. I am absolutely in love with rustic outdoor weddings, and this one is my favourite because of the free and easy atmosphere.

All the decor excluding the bride’s bouquet was made by a team of ten friends of the bride and groom. And it was charming – a light and beautiful arch, eco-style polygraphy and succulents, candy-bar with caramel apples and berries – sweet joys of summer.

At the end of ceremony the guests tossed up white handkerchiefs embroidered by Natalia’s own hands.

The most touching moment was the happy eyes of the groom’s grandmother, the most estimable person on the wedding. And the fireworks were a bright end to that beautiful day.

These photos from Lena Kozhina are so stunningly beautiful – as in you can’t help but stop and stare – it’s hard to believe it’s real life. But these pics are proof of this gorgeous Bride and her handsome Groom’s celebration at Moscow’s Fox Lodge , surrounded by vibrant colors and breathtaking blooms . Oh, and the idea of prepping for your Big Day outside in the sun ? Brilliant. See more bright ideas right here !

From Lena Kozhina … When we met with the couple for the first time, we immediately paid attention to Dima’s behavior towards Julia. There was a feeling of tenderness and awe, and we immediately wanted to recreate this atmosphere of love, care and warmth on their Big Day.

Later, when we had chosen a green meadow and an uncovered pavilion overlooking a lake as the project site, it only highlighted a light summer mood with colorful florals and a great number of natural woods. The name of the site is Fox Lodge and peach-orange color, as one of the Bride’s favorites, set the tone for the whole design – from the invitations, in which we used images of fox cubs to elements of serving guest tables and other decorative elements with the corresponding bright accents.

‘My dream wedding for 90 guests cost £2,000 – I wore a £10 dress and used a free Spotify trial’

Picture of Charlotte and Caine on their wedding day

A smart and savvy bride has shared her budgeting tips after planning her dream wedding for less than £2,000.

She even purchased her wedding dress for only £10.

Charlotte Deering, 27, always dreamed of tying the knot in an Alice in Wonderland-themed party. However, she and partner Caine, 26, did not want to pay thousands of pounds for their August 2023 event.

Instead, the frugal pair decided to set themselves a tight budget of £2,000, which also included their £120 honeymoon to Sand Le Mere, Yorkshire.

‘I wanted to do it as cheaply as possible and I scoured everywhere for the best deals,’ Charlotte explained. ‘I love to be frugal and show people that you don’t need to spend thousands to have what you like – with a little extra work, it’ll come together without the huge price tag. It’s all for one day after all and for me, it’s not worth getting into debt and stressing over.

‘I wanted to enjoy every second and know we had done it all our way while ensuring to cut costs. I haggled for cheaper prices, used coupons and free trials, as well as any sales, including Tesco, where I found the perfect wedding dress for £10.’

Story from Jam Press (Budget Wedding) Pictured: Charlotte and Caine on their wedding day. Mum plans incredible wedding for ??2,000 INCLUDING honeymoon ??? and her gown cost just ??10 A mum has revealed how she created her dream wedding on a budget for less than ??2,000 ??? including her wedding dress and honeymoon. When Charlotte Deering started planning her wedding day, she dreamed of tying the knot in an Alice in Wonderland-themed soir??e. But as she and her husband, Caine, 26, live a frugal lifestyle and believe people spending thousands on one day is ???ridiculous??? the childhood sweethearts got creative and utilised their savvy skills. The stay-at-home mum, 27, set herself a personal challenge of ??2,000 for the entire affair in August 2023, including their honeymoon ??? with her dress costing only ??10 from Tesco. ???I wanted to do it as cheaply as possible and I scoured everywhere for the best deals,??? Charlotte and Caine, who decorated their venue, a local hall, themselves and hired the space for ??100, kept costs low by asking guests to pay for their own drinks. In a bid to tie in with her chosen theme, the pair purchased fake flowers, jar lights, and candles from discount site, TEMU, along with scouring cashback websites for extra savings. She tasked her sister with making the cake, her sister-in-law with making 100 cupcakes, and haggled with the catering company

Charlotte and Caine decorated their wedding venue themselves and hired the local hall for just £100. To keep costs even lower, they asked guests to pay for their own drinks.

Meanwhile, to still stay connected with the chosen theme, the couple purchased fake flowers, jar lights, and candles from discount site, TEMU, and searched through various cash back websites for extra savings.

The cake made by charlotte's sister

Charlotte also asked her sister to make the cake, her sister-in-law to make 100 cupcakes, and haggled with the catering company to serve 90 guests with street food for £760.

For entertainment, they used a free trial of Spotify premium and bought their wedding rings for £30 from Argos.

The food at the wedding

To save even more cash, the ceremony took place at the registry office, costing £150, with only their parents and daughter present.

Charlotte and Caine had no bridesmaids or a best man and asked friends to snap photos of them at their local park to avoid paying for a photographer.

‘Instead of sending out invites, I created a Facebook group, which saved us hundreds of pounds on postage alone,’ Charlotte added.

Cutting the cake

‘I was able to keep everyone up-to-date and message people easily. I bought some Alice in Wonderland bits from Amazon, such as teapots, which really made the whole day feel unique and brought the Mad Hatters’ Tea Party to life.

‘I also searched for any discount codes available while shopping around, which helped with keeping the decoration costs low.

The decorations

‘For the sweets table, I bought a tub of them from B&M and dished them out into jars which we gave to children as party favours.

‘I popped to Iceland and grabbed some frozen bits for snacks in the evening, which only cost £30. I wanted a certain hairstyle, so I watched tutorials online and used an old sock to fix a bun in place.’

More decorations at the wedding

YouTube was Charlotte’s best friend for all things makeup, nails, and hair.

‘With a bit of practice, it’ll save you a fortune,’ she added. ‘I felt so relaxed on the big day, as I didn’t have the rush of getting into the hairdressers.’

Despite the stress of organising such an event, Charlotte said she wasn’t worried and enjoyed every step along the way.

‘I didn’t expect so many lovely comments, but everyone was absolutely amazed,’ she noted.

‘The people who run the venue took pictures and said it was the nicest wedding they’ve ever had. Our family and friends thought it cost us a fortune and I had so many compliments on my dress.

The wedding rings

‘People were in disbelief about how cheap it was and quite a few said it’s given them inspiration for their own wedding dress.

‘I’ve been wearing it throughout summer, so it’s gotten plenty of use out of it – it was important for me to buy something I could wear again.’
