FFXIV Macro Guide: Change hotbars, job and glamour in just a snap

Macros are really useful in FFXIV from Toggling hotbars, changing your job or your glamour plate while using emotes here is how to do it!

FFXIV Macro Guide: Change hotbars, job and glamour in just a snap

There is a lot you can do with macros in Final Fantasy XIV and even if they can look a bit scary at first, they're quite easy to use so don't worry!

In this guide we'll cover the following uses of macros:

How to toggle and hide hotbars

  • How to change job via a macro

How to add an emote to a change job macro

How to change the glamour plate you are using via a macro.

Before going into the macro guide, here's how all these points look in a short video.

To create a macro, head to the main menu and select User Macros then head to the shared tab if you want the macros to be shared on all your characters.

To toggle and hide a hotbar you will first need to set the bar where you want on your HUD and make sure this bar is shared across all your jobs if you want to use it on each of them as shown on the video.

  • To toggle and hide a hot bar the macro to use is: /hotbar display [Hotbar Number].
  • Pressing the macro again will hide the indicated hotbar.

On the video I set a macro to show/hide a hotbar on which I have created macros that show/hide more macros and added a macro to close all the bars.

NOTE : If you use a macro designed to close more than one hotbar and that one of the hotbar is not opened, the macro will close the other bars and open the closed one.

How to change job using a macro

To change your job easily using a macro you will need to set a gear set in your character tab for each job you plan to do a macro for.

Once that's done you'll simply need to use the following command:

  • /gs change [Gear Set Number]

If you want the macro to have the same icon as the select job you can use:

  • /macroicon [Gear Set Number] gearset

Adding an emote to an existing macro is very simple, the only trick is the use of the /wait option. In fact, some emotes are longer than others and changing job can stop the emote if is used before in the macro.

To add an emote before changing job you can use:

  • /[Emote Text Command]
  • /wait [Waiting Time] (For the snap for example, /wait 1 is enough for me.)

NOTE: You can also add <wait.1> after the /snap to avoid creating a /wait line. It then looks like that: /[Emote Text Command] <wait.1>

Here is how the complete macro looks for me when I want to switch to Paladin.

FFXIV Macro change job & glamour guide - Final Fantasy XIV

If you want to use an emote after changing job, using /wait might not be as useful, it's up to you.

The short answer to this issue is that there is not a text command to change your glamour plate directly but there is a very easy macro to go around the issue and change your glamour as you wish, you will need more of them, on per plate and per job actually.

FFXIV Change Glamour Plate using macros - Final Fantasy XIV

As you can see on this screenshot, I currently have two macros for each job on which I want to change glamour plates.

The macro is designed this way:

  • I use the /snap emote as seen before
  • I use /wait 1 to wait for the emote to be in a state I like
  • The macro takes the icon of Paladin because I use /macroicon 1 gearset and Paladin is my gearset number 1.
  • /gs change 1 8 change my current gearset to 1, changing my job to paladin, but what about the 8?

Adding a second number after the gearset number lets you specify to the macro which glamour plate you want to apply to it when changing job. Meaning I will always switch to Paladin with glamour plate number 8 applied when I use this macro.

If I'm already playing Paladin when using this macro, only the glamour will change .

Note: For this macro to work you need to make sure you don't have a glamour plate currently linked to the gearset and that you can equip the selected glamour plate.

And here you have it, I really liked setting up all this macro and enjoy changing classes, glamour plate in a snap and hope it helped you too.

If you have any questions on the topic or would like to read a guide on another topic we didn't cover yet, please feel free to let us know in the comment section below. until then, have a safe journey Warrior of Light.

How to change jobs in final fantasy xiv.

Final Fantasy XIV allows easy job changing. However, without understanding the entire system one might miss out on new jobs or better organization.

A unique feature of Final Fantasy XIV is quickly changing classes and jobs. This function lets a single character take on every role without a need for retraining, or making an alt. Best yet, those on the free trial have access to 25 classes and jobs before deciding to commit to the full game.

Final Fantasy XIV ’s Armoury Menu allows for instant job changing by switching main hand weapons. Equip a sword and one becomes Gladiator, switch to a bow and instantly change to an Archer, a frying pan to a Culinarian, and so on. This also means that each class is restricted to a single weapon or tool type, with no mixing-and-matching.

Related: How to Obtain the Best Equipment in FFXIV: Shadowbringers

Each class requires at least one main hand weapon or tool within the Armoury. Currently, the Armoury has 35 slots for 29 classes. However, this space must also account for future item drops including dungeon loot, purchased gear, and Relic weapon progression . Players should highly consider removing or selling weapons and tools for rarely played classes, which will lower the chance of issues or lost items.

Gaining New Classes in Final Fantasy XIV

At first, FFXIV characters are limited to just the class picked during character creation. However, after reaching level 10 and completing the corresponding guild quest , one can apply at any other class guild. There are some minor restrictions for class switching: one cannot change during combat, within most instanced content (it is possible to switch during PvP setup), or while actions are still mid-completion server side.

Guild Locations

It will be the easiest to visit guilds in one’s starting city, though it is possible to walk or take a boat to the other two. But, by completing the level 15 main story quest The [City] Envoy from that nation’s leader, players will gain airship passage to quickly transport anywhere for just 150 gil per ticket. The guilds per district are:

  • Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks: Arcanist, Rogue, Fisherman
  • Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks: Marauder, Culinarian, Blacksmith, Armorer
  • Ul’dah Steps of Nald: Pugilist, Thaumaturge
  • Ul’dah Steps of Thal: Gladiator, Miner, Goldsmith, Weaver
  • Hustings Strip: Alchemist
  • New Gridania : Archer, Carpenter
  • Old Gridania: Lancer, Conjurer, Botanist, Leatherworker

Equipment Sets

While one can quickly switch classes manually, this practice does not adequately gear any other item slot. Players that change to a different role may find their character naked or lacking minimum average item level. A better option is to create a new item set, which will record all equipment for a class or job. First, select the Gear Set List icon (a page with a curled left corner) followed by Create a New Gear Set (a plus sign icon). Additionally, the Update Gear Set option (circular arrow) will overwrite an outdated set with one’s current gear.

Job Crystals in Final Fantasy XIV

Jobs unlock new actions, passive traits, and equipment that are inaccessible to the base class. Note, Final Fantasy XIV considers classes and advanced jobs as completely separate vocations . One may need to re-organize their hotbar layout, macros, and equipment when changing. Additionally, one should re-queue for Duty Finder or Party Finder as the new job if they received their Job Crystal while waiting.

Upgrading Classes to Jobs

By clearing a classes’ quest chain through level 30, the corresponding mentor will offer a new quest to advance to a powerful job. Arcanist will gain two such quests, but both can be completed without issue or further requirements.

  • Paladin (Gladiator): Paladin’s Pledge - Lulustu, Ul’dah Steps of Thal (x:9.2, Y:11.7)
  • Warrior (Marauder): Pride and Duty Will Take You from the Mountain - Wyronzoen, Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (x:11.2, Y:6.1)
  • Ninja (Rogue): Peasants by Day, Ninjas by Nights - Jacke, Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (x:6.0, Y:6.1)
  • Monk (Pugilist): Brother from Another Mother - Gagaruna, Ul’dah Steps of Nald (x:9.4, Y:10.2)
  • Dragoon (Lancer): Eye of the Dragon - Ywain, Old Gridania (x:14.3, y:5.8)
  • Bard (Archer): A Song of Bards and Bowmen - Luciane, New Gridania (x:15.4, y:11.9)
  • Black Mage (Thaumaturge): Taking the Black - Yayake, Ul’dah Steps of Nald (x:7.3, Y:12.4)
  • Summoner (Arcanist): Austerities of Flame - Thubyrgeim, Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (x:4.7, Y:11.4)
  • Scholar (Arcanist): Forgotten but Not Gone - Murie, Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (x:4.5, Y:11.2)
  • White Mage (Conjurer): Seer Folly - E-Sumi-Yan, Old Gridania (x:6.3, y:10.6)

Classless Jobs

Jobs introduced in expansions have no associated class. Instead, a weapon and Job Crystal will be rewarded for completing the initial quest. Players will need to own the specific expansion that introduced the job and completed the main storyline up through two expansions ago. For example, level 50 Stormblood jobs require beating A Realm Reborn , while level 60 Shadowbringers jobs require finishing Heavensward .

  • Dark Knight: Our End ( Heavensward , level 30) - Ishgardian Citizen, The Pillars (x:13.2, y:8.8)
  • Gunbreaker: The Makings of a Gunbreaker ( Shadowbringers , level 60) - Gods’ Quiver Bow, Old Gridania (x:11.5, y:11.9)
  • Samurai: The Way of the Samurai ( Stormblood , level 50) - Ul’dahn Citizen, Ul’dah Steps of Nald (x:7.3, Y:12.4)
  • Machinist: Savior of Skysteel ( Heavensward , level 30) - Stephanivien, Foundation (x:8.1, y:10.1)
  • Dancer: Shell We Dance ( Shadowbringers , level 60) - Eager Lominsan, Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (x:9.8, Y:12.0)
  • Red Mage: Taking the Red ( Stormblood , level 50) - Distraught Lass, Ul’dah Steps of Thal (x:14.1, Y:11.7)
  • Blue Mage: Out of the Blue ( Heavensward , level 50) - Zealous Yellow Jacket, Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (x:9.9, Y:11.0)
  • Astrologian: Stairway to Heavens ( Heavensward , level 30) - Jannequinard, The Pillars (x:15.2, y:10.0)

Specialist Crafter Souls

Disciples of the Hand players that make it into Final Fantasy XIV ’s  Heavensward will have the option of gaining up to three Crafter Souls, which function similar to Job Crystals. To acquire a Crafter Soul, first a generic Soul of the Crafter can be bought for 480 Yellow Scrips from any Scrip vendor. Now, speak to Alderan in The Pillars (x14.7, y:10.7) and he will augment up to three Souls. If one brings a fourth, Alderan will instead offer to destroy an old Soul (with no form of refund).

Crafter Souls allow the ability to craft from a list of unique items (typically related to Trial and other high-end content). Additionally, a Crafter Soul gives a bonus to Craftsmanship and Control stats. Most importantly, a Crafter Soul allows access the level 55 ability Careful Observation . When used, this ability will stop any current actions from ticking, but may allow crafted items to increase condition (which improves the chance of high-quality results).

While it may seem like both Job Crystals and Crafter Souls are taking up space in the Armoury Menu, there is just enough room to fit them all in. Additionally, once Endwalker releases the Armoury will automatically increase in size for the two new jobs, Reaper and Sage. With the further removal of the belt slot, the Armoury may have additional improvements not already announced.

How to change a job to macro.

  • Mar 22nd 2021
  • Thread is Unresolved

I want to change a job to a macro but I can't find the job type menu in teach pendant.

May anyone tell me how to do that.

Do the robot have the macro option?

Quote from Lemster68 Do the robot have the macro option?

I'm not sure about it, customer just send me JBI fileS, I created robot and add those files. One of them is a macro program. But I can't add it into macro list although I enabled the MACRO INST.

A job once created can not be change to a macro job through the pendant. However, the job can be changed through Notepad or any text editor to be a macro job.

The controller (real or virtual) has to have macro job turned on to create macro jobs or set up macro jobs.

If the job is a macro and not in the INFORM LIST, the most common problem with the job disappearing from the list is related to the GETARG instruction getting the arguments. Are the arguments set up under the macro job name in SETUP, MACRO INST. The job name may have been set up but not the arguments.

change job macro

My guess is there aren't any macros for glamour plates yet, unless I'm wrong. (Please throw them my way) I'd like to be able to swap glamour plates through macros. This would really help to swap between several healer jobs, just by adding "glamour plate 1" to a macro.

Nerfworthy's Avatar

Saw this on Reddit: There's a workaround to this kinda. They mentioned it in the patch notes: A parameter has been added to the "/gearset" command to allow glamour plates to be applied when changing gear sets. Example: /gearset change 1 2 this will change to gear set 1 and apply glamour plate 2. So you could effectively set it so that each job can "apply a specific glamour plate" whenever you swap (So like glamour plate 1 can be for Summoner, plate 2 can be for Blm.. etc etc.) . Just put these commands on a macro and it should work.

Yeah but the plates keep the look on the gear you use for the job like if you have a look for smn itll stay that way then u can switch jobs and if it has a different glam that glam will still be there it works just like the old glam system except you can glam everything at once the gear is still glammed

InkstainedGwyn's Avatar

Also for anyone who's annoyed at losing their class icon (like I was), you can add /micon # gearset in front, i.e: /micon 3 gearset /gearset change 3 2 If your 3rd gearset is your MNK, it would add the MNK class icon as the macro icon, and then change you to your monk gearset and add glamourplate 2. I know I used these all the time to switch classes so not having to wait to mouse over names or memorise where they're located helps. (It also works for DOL/DOH.)

Again the plates dont dispell if you switch the gear will retain the look reapplying it wont really do anything but clutter your chat window if you have the system stuff displayed. Its like normal glams except u can apply stuff all at once instead if sitting there for several min doing it one at a time.

Don't use the "save" button (circle) on your screen and you won't 'stamp' anything. I stopped stamping my gear and haven't had an issue since. It's nice for my healers, of which I have 2, and my crafters, which I don't want all in the same Ala Mhigan gear. If it doesn't work for you, that's fine, but I haven't had an issue with it.

Thats funny bc unless I save the plate layout it wont let me exit the menu without discarding the changes but as i said the plates act just like normal glams theres really no need for a macro plus cant use them in the wilderness anyway
