Exam Pattern for Class 11th

As per the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) guidelines, there are more than ten subjects in the curriculum of class XI. The majority of subjects are categorized into two parts, i.e. theory and practicals. Listed below is the detailed exam pattern for each subject which will allow students to prepare better for the examination. 

 1. Chemistry exam pattern

Here are the highlights of the class XI chemistry exam – 

• Chemistry includes a theory section that carries 70 marks.
• The duration of the examination is 3 hours.
• Practicals carry 30 marks.

2. accountancy.

The highlights of the subject are mentioned below-

• The entire syllabus of Accountancy is divided into three parts- 
• Part A: Financial Accounting- I
• Part B: Financial Accounting- II
• Part C: Project work
• Part A consists of two units, Unit 1 and Unit 2, that have 12 and 40 marks respectively
• Part B contains Unit 3 and Unit 4 that are allotted 20 and 8 marks respectively
• Part C Project Work consists of 20 marks
• The total duration of the exam will be 3 hours

The syllabus of Biology is divided into 5 units that are further divided into various sub-sections:

• The maximum marks allotted to Biology practicals are 30
• The total time duration for practicals is 3 hours

The evaluation scheme of the same is given below –

4. Biotechnology

• The syllabus is categorised into two terms – Term I and Term- II
• Term-I has 3 units whereas Term-II has 2 units
• The total marks for Biotechnology is 100 
• The theory part of Biotechnology is for 70 marks and 30 marks are reserved for practicals
• The practicals will be conducted alongside the concept taught in the theory classes

The overall evaluation scheme for Biotechnology is given below –

• The scheme of evaluation for practicals is divided into two parts- 
• One experiment which will carry 10 marks
• Viva will carry 5 marks

5. Business Studies

• There are a total of ten units in the entire curriculum
• The theory part consists of 80 marks and project work carries 20 marks
• The total time duration for the exam is 3 hours

Note:  Project Work will be as per CBSE guidelines. 

6. Carnatic melodic

• The maximum marks for Carnatic Melodic is 30 + 70= 100 marks
• The time duration for the theory section of the exam is 2 hours
• 30 marks are reserved for theory and 70 marks for practicals
• The 70 mark-practical is further divided into two parts – 50+20, wherein project work & internal assessment carry 20 marks

7. Carnatic vocal 

Here are the highlights of the curriculum related to the subject of Carnatic Vocal:

• There are two sections in the subject

The theory section contains 30 marks whereas the practicals contain 50 marks

The internal assessment will  20 marks

Exam pattern for Carnatic Vocal is as follows – 

• 30 marks are allotted to the theory section.
• The time duration is 2 hours.
• Practicals carry 50 marks.
• Internal assessment carries 20 marks. 
• The maximum marks are 100.

8. Carnatic percussion 

The important points regarding the exam of Carnatic Percussion is given as follows: 

• The time duration set for the exam is 2 hours
• The theory section of the subject consists of 30 marks 
• The practical section holds 50 marks
• The internal assessment carries 20 marks

12. Entrepreneurship 

Here are the main highlights of the Entrepreneurship subject- 

• The theory section of the entire syllabus consists of 70 marks
• The remaining 30 marks includes Project work and Viva
• The total time set for the theory part of the exam is 3 hours
• The project work includes 10 marks for 2 projects, 5 marks for numerical assessment, and 5 marks for viva

•  The time allotted for the practical exam depends upon the discretion of the examiner
• Every dance form has a detailed and unique syllabus for theory and practicals covering key aspects of the particular dance type.

15. Geography 

• The Geography examination consists of both theory and practical work.
• Maximum marks for the theory section is 70 marks
• Total time allowed for the theory examination is 3 hours

• Time allowed for the the examination is 3 hours

• One paper is conducted for Legal Studies
• Time allowed for the examination is 3 hours 
• 20 marks are allotted to project work

• The time allowed for the examination is 3 hours
• Maximum marks for the subject are 80

• There are a total of 8 units in the external assessment section of Applied Mathematics
• This section carries 80 marks

Here are the highlights of the curriculum related to the Physical Education:

• The syllabus is divided into two terms – Term I and II
• Term- I includes the theory part of the MCQ-based questions of 35 marks and practical of 15 marks
• Term-II consists of short/long answers of 35 marks and practical of 15 marks

• The syllabus is divided into two terms, Term I and II, with 40 marks allotted to each.

30. Psychology

Here are the important details regarding the Psychology subject exam: 

• Psychology has a total of nine units
• The maximum marks for the subject is 100 which is further divided into theory part of 70 marks and practicals (Experiments, projects, small studies, case profile) of 30 marks
• The maximum time allotted to students for the theory section is 3 hours
