How to Get Accepted to Multiple Top Business Schools

Maximize every opportunity to emphasize the unique contributions you can bring to an MBA class.

Get Accepted to Multiple Top B-schools

When applying, it's important tailor your application to each school and have well-developed goal statement that plots the intended career path, experts say.

Nikita Srivastava applied to seven MBA programs and got admitted to three: Yale University School of Management in Connecticut, New York University's Stern School of Business and the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business in Illinois.

“I definitely was not expecting it,” says Srivastava, who chose Booth.

She attributes her multiple acceptances to top B-schools to tying her personal and professional backgrounds to her post-MBA goals. Her background was mainly in communications, media relations and public relations, and she credits her MBA admissions consultant for showing her how to tell her story.

“Lean into what makes you unique," Srivastava advises MBA applicants .  " Think about how this unique quality will enhance the classroom for your peers and professors. Be proud of it and own it.”

Being accepted into multiple B-schools can allow an applicant to weigh program fit, potential opportunities and scholarship offers. Here are some things to consider to increase your chances of being accepted to multiple top business schools .

Apply More Broadly

Getting admitted to numerous MBA programs is a numbers game, says Sam Weeks, an MBA admissions consultant and founder of Sam Weeks Consulting.

“The more business schools a prospective applicant applies to, the more likely they are to be accepted into more than one school. That’s why we recommend to our clients to apply to at least six schools, if possible,” says Weeks, who has an MBA from the University of Oxford in England.

Students should not only apply to more schools to increase their chances of multiple admissions, but also more broadly in terms of school selectivity, experts say.

“This sounds obvious, but there are many applicants who go into this process only considering a limited set of schools with slimmer acceptance odds. They say the ROI is not there for other schools outside their ambitious targeting,” says Alex Leventhal, an MBA admissions consultant at Prep MBA Admissions Consulting.

Leventhal, who has an MBA from Harvard University Business School in Massachusetts, contends that the return on investment is compelling at more schools than most people think. He says applicants should look at the salary data of program graduates and the percentage of graduates who got jobs within three months after graduation.

“For example, the very top consulting firms recruit at a range of schools, and not just the top three,” Leventhal says.

He also suggests looking for joint degree programs to increase your odds by applying to a specialty track that a school is promoting or trying to fill.

Leventhal said he has had "some less-than-stellar clients" get accepted to the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School , likely because they applied to the Lauder Institute of Management and International Studies joint program "for one of their less popular regional tracks. Or a client who got into Stanford Graduate School of Business because their professional experiences fit so nicely with a limited scholarship program focusing on the sustainable food supply chain.”

Customize Each Application

Schools like to see B-school applicants demonstrate familiarity with their programs, experts say. Leventhal says schools will “look for evidence that you have engaged with their program and talked to current students and alumni.”

Applicants should demonstrate they took the time to research a particular school “and all it has to offer, and consider both what they will learn from the program and how they will add value on campus,” says MBA consultant Scott Edinburgh, founder of Personal MBA Coach.

This means taking time to develop a strong personal story that connects past choices with future goals, says Edinburgh, who has an MBA from Wharton.

Applicants should demonstrate four key things in their tailored applications, he says: “Ability to handle the academic rigor of the target MBA program, leadership potential, how they will uniquely add value on campus and clarity of purpose.”

When applying, Weeks says, it’s important to have a well-developed goal statement that “charts out the applicant's intended career path and the impact they expect to have in their career.” He says those goals should be ambitious but attainable and make sense for the applicant.

Knowing what makes top business schools distinct "and then showing how you fit into those unique scenarios is essential to securing admits,” says Candy Lee LaBalle, an MBA admissions expert and founder of mbaClarity, formerly LaBalle Admissions.

Highlight Extracurricular Activities

Professional accomplishments that demonstrate leadership are great but shouldn’t be the only things highlighted. Edinburgh says applicants should show a passion for driving change.

“Successful MBA applicants are interesting people with plans to leave the world better than they found it in unique ways. Demonstrating passion and a track record of success in working towards this passion goes a long way,” Edinburgh says.

LaBalle says applicants who get admitted to multiple top B-schools tend to be “genuinely curious about the world, about learning, about having their perspectives challenged, and that shows in their hobbies and interests, work and goals.” They care deeply about the world and can demonstrate it, she adds, “whether that is mentoring classmates or starting an NGO that feeds thousands, and everything in between.”

Boost Your GMAT or GRE Score

If your GMAT or GRE score is lower than you had hoped for, take some more time to study and retake the exam.

“It is easier to get admits, and thus multiple admits, if your test score is strong and balanced between quantitative and verbal,” LaBalle says.

She says a strong, above-average test score can make a difference. “While there are many ways to offset a lowish test, the hard truth is that the higher your score, the better your odds of multiple admits.”

Students who don’t do well in the quantitative or analytical parts of the GMAT may prefer to take the GRE. Some business schools accept either test for MBA admissions.

Tests and other application materials aside, experts say securing strong letters of recommendation by supporters invested in your career and future is important to getting accepted to top MBA programs.

Apply to Schools Offering Scholarships

Applying to more schools can mean more scholarships that come with those admissions, which can give you options. Leventhal says his clients have focused on applying to more B-schools the last few cycles because they are increasingly interested in merit scholarships.

“The schools are trying to secure talented applicants with money off the tuition. As the price tag of the MBA has gone up, the merit pull can understandably matter. And schools that are reaches for an applicant generally won’t offer much in the way of merit grants,” Leventhal says.

Srivastava says she received some scholarships with each admissions offer, helping to relieve the burden of paying back student loans after graduation and giving her “freedom to focus on finding a career that would be a good fit for me both personally and professionally.”

A major bonus to getting accepted to multiple B-schools that offer scholarships is leverage, Weeks says. “You are in a strong position to negotiate scholarships.”

That includes awards at the most elite business schools. Students with more than one acceptance can inform schools that they received another offer and ask if any additional scholarship funding is available, he says.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

consulting jobs canberra

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

consulting jobs canberra

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

consulting jobs canberra

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

consulting jobs canberra

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Keywords: Tuva, Early Iron Age, early Scythian period, Aldy-Bel culture, barrow, burial in the coffin, mummy, full genome sequencing, aDNA

Work Location

Expected duration

It should be noted that this is a full-time consultancy. The duration of the assignment is six (6) months. The Feasibility Study (Report) is to be delivered in full within the six-month timeline and the intermediate deliverables will be further specified in the contract.

Duties and Responsibilities

THE ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is the United Nations (UN) designated organization in charge of ensuring continuous leadership on environmental issues relating to international civil aviation, including the reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. In this regard, ICAO provides capacity-building assistance to its Member States to help them deploy cleaner fuels for aviation, develop States Action Plans and implement measures to mitigate CO2 emissions from international aviation. Coherent with its No Country Left Behind initiative, ICAO launched in 2013 the first ICAO Assistance Project with European Union (EU) Funding, successfully supporting 14 States in Africa and the Caribbean during its first phase and five States from the Eastern and Southern African Region, and five from the Western and Central African Region on its second phase. Seven feasibility studies have been conducted in certain selected States to date. Information on these project and the final results, can be found here. Building on this successful implementation, ICAO initiated in 2024 a new series of Assistance Projects with funding from States and organizations, in support of the ICAO ACT-SAF global initiative launched in 2022, aiming to provide opportunities for States to develop their full potential in Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) development and deployment. Working under the overall guidance and coordination of the ICAO Office of Environment, the consultant will conduct a comprehensive feasibility study on the development and deployment of SAF in the designated Supported State and develop an implementation roadmap, in close cooperation with the State. This study aims to support the future development of SAF eligible under CORSIA and provide guidance to the State on any current progress on the technical, regulatory and economic measures, in place or need to be planned, for the development and deployment of SAF to contribute to the mitigation of CO2 emissions from international civil aviation and achieve the objectives of the ICAO Global Framework for SAF, LCAF and other Aviation Cleaner Energies. As key result, the feasibility study will identify the State’s potential and enhance their capacity in developing national strategies and roadmaps that effectively contribute towards increased production and uptake of SAF and for its integration in their ICAO State Action Plans for CO2 emission reduction. These studies may vary on size complexity and scope depending on specific circumstances of the State in the moment of launching the project and on the analysis of whether previous work was undertaken, so the definition of the Study will avoid any duplications a be adapted to such context. The ICAO Air Transport Bureau (ATB)/ Environment (ENV) Branch will be responsible for overseeing this activity and ensuring that the programme and implementation activities meet the various UN regulations and standards of the supporting States and Organizations. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Consultant will report to the Project’s Technical Coordinator and to Office of Environment and is expected to submit weekly reports in English outlining the work undertaken and updating the progress of the feasibility study. In accordance with the guidelines under the ICAO Assistance Project, and in line with existing ICAO SARPs, policies and guidance in the field of aviation and environment, the Consultant will work in close coordination with the Focal Points designated by the supported State, its national authorities and key stakeholders, to carry out the following activities related to the development of the feasibility study: • Liaises with the Project Coordinator, the Local project Consultant (where applicable) and the State’s designated focal point to foster a mutual understanding of the key objectives, scope and priorities of the study; The key objectives, scope, timeline and priorities of the feasibility study will be provided to the consultant at the start of the contract. • Conducts a short pre-feasibility study (Waypoint) to confirm the added value of undertaking a full study. This study will take a few days and will be based on desk research, as well as information provided by the supported State, if any. The deliverable will be in the form of a slide deck to be presented at the ‘Waypoint meeting’. • Develops a work plan adjusted according to the specific circumstances of the State in the moment of launching the project and on the analysis of whether previous work was undertaken, that includes a work breakdown structure (WBS), deliverables, milestones, schedule, risk management plan and an efficient monitoring strategy to conduct the feasibility study, considering any pre-existing SAF feasibility studies or related literature relevant to State. • Participates in the kick-off meeting(s) in the supported State and supports the delivery of capacity-building activities during the duration of the project to enhance the ability of key national stakeholders to acquire knowledge on SAF, understands the need of policy intervention and engagement to promote SAF and the ability of the State to contribute to global SAF discussions. The kick-off meeting is followed directly by an introductory session on SAF delivered by the ICAO Project coordinator and the consultant for the States Focal Points and national Stakeholders. The training builds largely on available training material used in the ICAO ACT-SAF Series of trainings. • Assess potential synergies with neighboring States and with observations of SAF feasibility studies conducted in other States and identify potential for future mutual/grouped action between ICAO Member States for the development of SAF. • Conducts the Feasibility Study, which should: o Examine the national conditions, legislations, existing structures, relevant aviation, energy and other stakeholders, roles of government and industry, research, investment and best practices, ongoing and implemented actions in the field of SAF development and deployment for aviation and support the creation of a national working group; o Evaluate the potential feedstocks, production potential, supply chain, storage, logistics, certification and economics for the development and deployment of SAFs for aviation in the State. Priority should be given to examine the feasibility of SAF production other than food and feed-crop based in light of CORSIA sustainability criteria; o Analyze the available transformation and refining technologies, as well as their technical and regulatory constraints and certification for the production of SAF as the key scope of the Study; o Undertake a SAF market study including information on potential supply and demand - according to the objective of the ICAO Global Framework for SAF, LCAF and other Aviation Cleaner Energies - identifying potential strengths and weaknesses of a SAF project, opportunities and challenges, potential actors, sponsors, competitors; o Assess potential enabling feasible national policies and incentives according to the existing national regulations/frameworks; o Assess the enabling sustainability framework of a high efficiency value chain focused on SAFs for the aviation sector; o Assesses SAF benefits for the State, including estimating the reduction potential of CO2 emissions on a life cycle basis and the contribution and impacts on the local social and economic development, in particular regarding the competitive use of food and water for SAFs production and reduction of fossil fuel dependency; o Identify obstacles and alternatives to overcome the challenges on the technical, financial, and training/capacity building needs with regard to the production and consumption of SAFs in aviation. • Following the ICAO harmonized template and its accompanying Guide, prepares a feasibility study (Report) in English for the State containing an executive summary, the findings on the above items, SAF supply objectives, enabling policy options, recommendations and a proposed implementation roadmap containing guidelines for partner States to develop their SAF market. This should contain elements on (A) structural organization, (B) business plan and implementation, (C) funding, (D) feedstock, (E) processing and technology, (F) market structure and logistics, (G) regulatory framework and support policies. This roadmap should be useable by the partner State in view of inclusion in its States Action Plan for mitigation of CO2 emission from international aviation. A virtual meeting should be organized between the Consultant and the supported State to 1) explore options to include elements of SAF strategy/roadmap in the State Action Plan; and 2) to present the calendar of upcoming ICAO regional and global activities/events on SAF in view of increasing the preparedness of the supported State to participate and contribute to such activities/events. The final report (and intermediary reports) of the feasibility study should be submitted to ICAO for coordination and review and after consolidation in a final version, which would be ready to be published (with editorial review) and delivered in the forms of both soft and hard copies. Upon review, ICAO may request the consultant to make adjustments to the content of the report. • The consultant will be expected to travel to the supported State in the context of the preparation of the report, spending at least 3 weeks in the State to develop the study. • Prepares a template for a SAF offtake agreement to be put at the disposal of industry actors in presence (SAF producers/suppliers, airlines, airports), as well as guidance on the filling-in of the template; • Participates in periodic (virtual) progress meetings with ICAO, the Technical Coordinator, and the respective partner States focal points to take stock on the progress of the feasibility study. • Presents the findings during a one (1) -day workshop held in the State and bringing together the relevant stakeholders; • Performs other related duties that may be assigned.
