Spring Directed Drawing

Have your kids ever complained that they can’t draw something or asked you to draw for them? Sometimes it can be really fun to grab the pencil and let your kids prompt you to fill the page with silly drawings. It’s a great way to spend some quality time and hear lots of little kid giggles.

Other times, we want to encourage our kids to draw independently. If you’re looking for ways to help your kids get more creative and build their self-confidence, look no further. These three step-by-step drawing prompts will encourage your kids to solve problems, build fine motor skills, and make their own creative drawing creations.

Using Directed Drawing to Practice Handwriting

Did you know you can use these three directed drawing pages to practice handwriting too? Preschoolers can practice important pre-writing skills as they make the strokes necessary to form their own beehive or bird nest. Plus, they’ll be building important early fine motor skills like proper pencil grasp and finger muscles for forming letters.

Kindergarteners and beyond can have fun writing their own creative stories to match their pictures. Try these prompts:

  • Yesterday, I found a beehive in the woods. When I poked it…
  • If you see a bird’s nest, you should…
  • Once upon a time, a bird I met…

Preschoolers can get in on the story making fun by dictating their story to you or using narration skills. Did I mention these Spring directed drawing pages also work well for copywork? Write facts about birds, nests, and beehives and have them copy the words on their own paper. It’s a great way to build early handwriting and literacy skills with young kids.

How do you use directed drawing pages in your classroom, homeschool lessons, or virtual learning space? I’d love to read about how these printables are helping you encourage creativity and imagination in the comments section.

These directed drawing prompts are meant to encourage creative thinking, problem-solving, and fine motor skills which are important for little kids.

A lot of the ideas involve imaginative thinking, so be sure to encourage your little kids to be as creative as possible.

Preschoolers and kindergartners can dictate their story to you while older kiddos can write their own.

These directed drawing printables also work well for copywork. Write the story your little kids dictate to you on the printable, then let them use their very own special composition notebook to draw the picture, create a scene, and then copy their story.

The Importance of a Good Early Childhood Education

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, having the firm foundation of early childhood education will ensure children's success in life. It is also imperative that students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills during their first year in school as well as establish an appreciation of who they are in a social society. Teachers are able to implement these worksheets in a variety of early childhood lesson plans. Even though our "kindergarten worksheets" are designed for kindergarten students, they are also useful for children that are in preschool or first grade. These diverse kindergarten worksheets will create a fun learning environment that ultimately assist in cultivating valuable critical thinking, cultural, and linguistic skills.
