The class then play a game of Simon Says taking it in turns to lead the activity. Answer: ..................................... 2: The teacher presents sentences to the class and asks them all to repeat, firstly as a group and then individually with the teacher providing feedback on accuracy and pronunciation. The approach is teacher led and focusses largely on repetition of core structures and sentences – not only in the classroom but also in language labs where available Answer: ..................................... 3: The teacher aims to be as quiet as possible in the classroom allowing their students to produce as much language as possible through exploration with minimal instructions. Cuisenaire rods can be used to represent word forms or structures but the focus is on experimentation by the learners using the blocks of language that have been introduced Answer: ..................................... 4: The teacher works hard to ensure that as many activities as possible focus on interaction in the classroom with this interaction being both the means and the goal of learning the language. Activities used will include role play, interviews, games, activities and pair work. The ability to interact in the new language is the key to all that is done in the classroom Answer: ..................................... 5: A teacher varies the techniques and approaches they use in the classroom based on what they believe works best for different items they are teaching and the students in the class. Some activities may focus on grammatical accuracy, others on fluency and others on tasks and projects. Answer: ..................................... 6: The teacher asks the students to work through an activity comparing the present perfect with the present perfect continuous. Errors are picked up and the teacher presents the grammatical rules and then asks the students to practice in small groups. Answer: ..................................... 7: The teacher focusses most of their attention on grammatical points, often explaining rules in depth and in the learners L1 if possible. Learners begin by reading and writing with the teacher ensuring that mistakes are not made in the structure of the language produced, at the expense of fluency and verbal communication. Answer: ..................................... 8: A group of students are given a travel guide and asked to plan a 2 week holiday for next year and then to sell the holiday to other students in the class, focussing on reasons why their trip would be the best Answer: ..................................... 9: A method of teaching where L1 is never used, grammar is taught inductively, concrete vocabulary is introduced through demonstration, mime and pictures and abstract vocabulary is introduced through association of ideas Answer: ..................................... 10: The teacher introduces a new grammatical structure to the class through mime and pictures whilst modelling the actual sentence containing the new structure. The students drill this structure and are then given a short activity helping them to produce short sentences featuring the same grammatical point. The final activity involves the students producing their own sentences in pairs whilst the teacher walks around the class helping and providing feedback. 10 Steps to Passing Your TEFL: Study and assignment tips

Just ordered a TEFL course, or thinking of doing so, but worried about passing? The dreams of travelling abroad get a cold shower when you think about the work required to get the all-important TEFL certificate.

Each TEFL course provider has different module structures, assignments and tests, so this guide will help you in a general sense, rather than giving specific details on the course you’re doing. From my experience, courses are generally similar, so nothing should come as a big surprise.

1. Learn the requirements of your course

Before you start the course (and ideally before you buy it), look at the course structure. How many modules are there? When will there be quizzes? How many written assignments are you expected to do, and is there a final exam?

2. Set a schedule and be consistent

Now you know the structure of your course, you can plan a schedule to suit your life.

Figure out how soon you want to finish the course and calculate the number of hours you need to study per day.

Let’s say you’re doing a 120-hour course with 20 modules (each approximately 6 hours). You want to finish in two months and only work weekdays. That gives you around 40 working days, so you need to finish a module every two days – approximately 3 hours of study a day.

3. Take quality notes

But don’t just write down everything you read or hear. Pick out key, specific information. Not only does this streamline your notes, but it saves a lot of time. Don’t be afraid to write shorthand. As long as you understand what your notes mean, that’s enough. For example, you read this:

To accurately and holistically assess your students’ English, take into account all four key skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – as well as grammar. Avoid focusing on just one aspect.

4. Get the grammar down

You won’t have to know this information for the majority of lessons in your TEFL career, especially with lower-level learners. But if you want to be a quality English teacher, it’s important to know your stuff.

5. Use your tutor (if you have one) and community support

And whether or not you have a tutor, you can find help from TEFL communities. This might be your classmates from the in-person course. Or, your online course provider may already have a forum in which you can interact with fellow students.

6. Save the given resources

7. write assignments concisely and edit carefully.

The written assignment is a feature of almost all TEFL courses. It can be daunting, especially compared to the multiple choice quizzes at the end of each module.

8. Make sure Observed Teaching Practice is student-centred and effective

The best TEFL courses include Observed Teaching Practice (OTP) in which you teach real students under the watchful eye of an experienced teacher. It’s so valuable in improving your craft.

Second, make sure the student is the focus of the class. Not you. Ultimately, teaching is not about the teacher’s performance, but how well the students learn. Get your class involved, engaged and active. Don’t stand at the front and lecture them.

Follow a simple lesson plan, and let the students do the work while you act as a guide. This is quality teaching. It may seem like you’re not doing much, but a good teacher doesn’t have to be the centre of attention.

And play a game at the end. Everyone loves games.

If you’re worried TEFL might be too hard, read my article Is TEFL Teaching Hard? A guide to whether TEFL is right for you to get a broad perspective on the challenges of being a TEFL teacher. Spoiler: getting the certificate is easy!

10. Start now

This may seem like easyt, but for many people, it’s the hardest part of the process. It’s the big jump. Once you get rolling, things progress well, but just beginning can prove a barrier.

Section a: culture, question 1.

'It's vital to respect cultures and make an effort to understand how different and sometimes similar people live their lives: they will be the people who are sitting in front of you.' (Enjoy TEFL Course)

Imagine you have been offered a teaching post in a non-English speaking country. Choose any country that fits this profile. Research the key aspects of the culture in that country, including beliefs and attitudes related to education.

What are the key differences in culture, including education, compared to your own that you will need to grasp and understand before taking up your post? (250-500 words)

Chosen country: China

Word count: 372

There are many differences between the culture in England and China that need to be understood before working as an English teacher in China. In wider philosophy, the western world promotes individualism, encouraging the idea that a single person can and should stand out from the crowd. This is often a measure of success. In contrast, in China it is not the individual but the group that matters. Chinese people don't try to "show off" or draw attention to themselves.

Chinese society is very hierarchical, whereby respect for elders and seniority is paramount. Family is extremely important, and younger generations are taught to obey older generations.

It is also the custom in China for workers to follow orders from senior employees, without question. Asking questions is not acceptable. This behaviour begins in school, where the teacher is at the top of the hierarchy and their orders are to be followed. This is very different from an English classroom, where asking lots of questions is encouraged.

However, Chinese people aren't shy of asking personal questions that would be rude in English society. Personal questions about salary, finances and age are just a few examples of questions that would not be offensive in China.

There are also differences surrounding education specifically, which include Chinese attitude to school. Chinese children are taught that education is extremely important. They are under intense pressure from their parents and society to study hard and achieve good grades, otherwise they will bring shame to themselves and their families. In England, studying and success in exams is encouraged but far more laid-back.

More practically, it's important for foreign teachers to be aware of the technological restrictions in China. Many websites that could otherwise be used as teaching aids, such as YouTube, are inaccessible.

It's also vital for teachers of English to be aware that some sounds in English aren't present in Chinese. Consequently, some native Chinese speakers learning English as a second language struggle to pronounce certain words including the [ð], the [r], or some specific final consonants in words.

This is also true of various grammatical concepts, plural forms, tenses and intonation. Cultural sensitivity is required at all times to ensure that all students are treated fairly and respectfully!

what you'll learn

We’ll explore what makes learning the English language unique, give you a working background of the TEFL environment, and break down key teaching methods.

There’s more to the teacher role than you might think. We’re going to teach you how to be a competent and effective EFL teacher both inside and outside of the classroom. You’ll also gain an understanding of skill sets required for a range of EFL work situations including kindergarten, homeroom, training center, and more!

Here, we’ll show you how to drive motivation, identify effective learners, and implement learning strategies based on your EFL learners. You’ll also learn how to encourage autonomy in the classroom through classroom activities and reflection.

Planning and presenting lesson plans is the most critical teacher skill of all. Here, you’ll get an overview on how to plan and present high-quality lesson plans (and we’ll go more in-depth in Module 7 and 8). In this introduction, you’ll get a grasp on how to set objectives and goals, manage your time, utilize and assess available content/resources, and how to reflect after completed lessons. We put all of these ideas together with an example lesson plan that you can use as a template moving forward.

You may be a native English speaker, but unless you majored in English, you probably forgot a lot of grammar concepts and mechanics. We’re going to review the fundamentals of grammar including the nine word classes in the English language, verb tenses, conditionals, types of sentences, modals, and cohesion. We wrap this grammar module up with how to teach grammar to different age groups. You don’t need to feel intimidated by grammar; you’ll be a grammar teaching ninja by the end of this module!

Knowing, understanding, and being able to apply and explain key language components is a great skill and we’re going to teach you how to do it here! You’re going to learn how to teach pronunciation, phonological and phonemic awareness, word relationships and awareness, and much more! We provide practical advice on how to plan for analyzing language before a lesson, during a lesson, and after the lesson.

You’re going to learn how to teach the 4 key skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. We’re going to share with you some helpful classroom activities to promote these skills as well as how to lesson plan for each using the lesson plan model from Module 4.

We’re putting together all you have learned about lesson planning from Module 4 and 7 and are going to show you how to apply these skills in an extremely effective way. We provide lesson plan examples and templates that you can print out and use in your lessons as well as a list of activities, exercises, and games that you can use for every part of your lesson. You’ll get a ton out practical advice of this module!

Here you’ll learn about skills that are important in the classroom such as body language, effective use of the board, giving instructions, asking questions, and concept checking. You will also get a grasp on how to assess and correct students effectively. Finally, of course, you’ll receive free exercises and templates to help facilitate these skills in the classroom.

Classroom management is one of the best ways to ensure you have a smooth year with your students. How do you set up a great learning environment? We’ll walk you through how to set up a classroom, build routines and vocal cues, managing group and partner work, creating a working seating arrangement, and more. If you do this right the first time, you won’t need to be bogged down with classroom discipline!

Teaching young learners (between 3-7 years old) requires different activities, skill sets, and knowledge. We’re going to show you how to plan lessons for young learners that keep them happy and engaged in the classroom. Even if you don’t anticipate teaching this age group, it’s important as an educator to understand the fundamentals of how younger students pick up the basics of the English language.

What are the answers to my online TEFL course?

The answers to your online TEFL course should be in the course you are taking. If you are searching Google for answers then you have one of the 3 problems below.

While doing some research I found that quite a few searches were being done in regards to "answers".

So do you know those related search queries on the bottom of the Google search results page?

searches related to online tefl course answers

Here some of the queries people were searching for:

  • online TEFL course quiz answers
  • answers to online TEFL course
  • online TEFL course help
  • tefl online test answers
  • tefl 120 hour online course answers
  • tefl 150 hour online course answers
  • tesol 120 hour online course answers
  • tefl grammar test answers
  • tefl unit 4 answers

Branded queries

All but one of these courses are cheap TEFL courses on Groupon.

  • tefl full circle answers
  • mytefl answers
  • tefl express answers
  • international open academy tesol answers
  • learn tefl 120 hour written assignment

If you are searching for the answers to your online course I suspect you have a few problems.

Your problem might be:

  • The course is not interesting
  • You're lazy
  • You chose the wrong kind of course

1. The course you are taking is boring, uninspiring or hard

First let's blame it on the course because this is probably the main reason why you are searching for the answers to your course.

It could be that the course you are taking is not inspiring or intentionally difficult. You might have bought one of those cheap Groupon courses . So this is probably a case of "you get what you pay for" although one of those branded queries above ( myTEFL ) isn't a very cheap course.

Some courses are totally text based and uninspiring.

You won't remember that or at least much of that.

Is that TEFL course hard?

Also some courses make it intentionally more difficult for you because they are not arranged in a way that's inclusive to learning.

They may focus on making you memorize uselss jargon, grammar terms and other fluff just like the majority of the _____ (insert class here) classes you took.

So if you are uninspired perhaps you can take another course. I would take one that includes a lot of instructional videos  so that you get a visual.

I did receive an email once,

"...I tried a Groupon course and couldn't finish it cause It didn't inspire me..."

And let me ask you a question.

What appealed to you about the course that you took?

Were they the fancy words like " accreditation " or " internationally recognized " certification?

If so then that just goes to show you that those words don't guarantee quality. As all the above brands mentioned are accredited.

Or was it the price?

2. You're lazy and/or not cut out for teaching

I think your problem is most likely the first one, but it could also be you.

If you are lazy and just trying to skim through the course then I am going to pass some moral judgement on you.

You are probably wasting your time because you are just chasing the carrot (that certificate) and are missing out on the opportunity to learn, yet if the course is dull then you should let every one know.

If you want to cheat then that comes at a cost.

If I was you I would start thinking more long term instead of short term. You are thinking short term if you are just focused on the certificate. That certificate might help you get a job, but what's after that?

It's going to be your work. And if you don't know what you are doing then you are probably not going to like it much.

You might not be cut out for teaching either. Not everyone is. In fact most people who actually teach abroad aren't. They'll do it for a year or two and call it quits.

You might want to stop now and reconsider teaching abroad as a whole. It's work. It's not an escape or a vacation .

I would start thinking long term.

Think down the road.

You'll get a job, but then what?

And lastly ask yourself this question.

Are you the kind of teacher that you would want to have?

3. You chose the wrong 'kind' of course

So it could be the course, it could be you or it could be that you chose the wrong kind of course.

Online courses are not for everyone.

You need to have a certain amount of discipline to take an online course. If you are a traditional classroom learner then you might need the support system of a teacher and students.

To work well online you need to be able to work independently. You need self motivation. If you don't have those things then an online course might not be cut out for you. There is probably a better online course, but as good as it is it still might not be good enough for you.

If you need help then an in-class course might be better for you.

The answers are...

As mentioned before the answers are actually in the course you are taking or should be. So I'd say you either take another course, slow down and do the work, or reconsider teaching abroad.

Or you can take a more engaging course like this one that uses a lot of how-to videos, minimizes text and maximizes interaction and feedback.
