paper roses

Roses are some of the most beautiful flowers out there. Make your own DIY roses with just a couple pieces of paper and let your creativity flow.

Check this step-by-step tutorial and learn how to make paper roses from scratch.

paper roses

You can never have too many flowers anywhere , especially not in a craft project. Do you want to turn something simple and boring into something pretty and colorful? Do you want to soften a project, perhaps, and add texture to it, as well?

Then you’ve got to have paper flowers, paper roses in particular.

pile of paper roses

They are so exquisitely easy to make, but they do take time. That’s why you should make a couple dozen of these paper roses beforehand and store them for later. So sit yourself down, put on a movie, and get some munchies out for this fun craft session!

holding paper roses

Take a look at the supplies you’re going to need for this project.

Supplies and Tools You’ll Need

  • 4x paper squares* (3.5″ x 3.5″)
  • Wooden skewer

How to Make Paper Roses

The first step is to pick out the type and color of paper you plan to use as the flowers you make will vary depending on both factors. So take a look at step one of making paper roses!

Video Tutorial

First, grab your paper and lay it out on a flat work surface. Grab one corner and bring it towards the opposite corner and fold it in half to make a triangle.

paper square

Fold the triangle once again to make an even smaller triangle.

folding paper triangle in half

Now, open out the last fold you just made and you’ll have a perpendicular fold along the center of your triangle.

Grab a pencil and make a marking about an inch and a half down one side.

measuring on paper

Grab the opposite corner and bring it up towards the marking you just made, pressing down to crease the paper.

folding paper

Repeat this step with the opposite side as well, making the marking the same inch and a half down from the top and then folding the opposite end up and creasing it in place.

folding paper

Grab your pencil once again and draw a little petal at the bottom of the paper, as indicated here.

tracing petal on paper

You can experiment with different petal styles, sizes, and designs, as well.

tracing petals on paper

Grab a pair of scissors and cut the paper along the petal you just drew.

cutting out petal

Your cut out should look like this.

cut out petal

When you open it out, you should have a pretty little flower like you see below with six petals!

unfolded petal

Go ahead and make three more of these flowers before you move on to the next step. All four pieces should be identical.

four pink petals

Place all four pieces one atop the other and line them up.

stack of petals

Then grab one petal and bring it inward to fold it. Repeat this with the other five petals as well, making sure you grab all four flower sheets as you do so.

folding petal

Each of the four flower sheets should look something like a hexagonal cup.

folded petals

Now, grab a wooden skewer and place it in the middle of one of the petals. Carefully fold the paper around the skewer to ‘curve’ it into a flowery petal shape. Repeat this with all six petals till your petals are looking softer and more curvy.

wrapping petals around skewer

To soften the edges out some more and really give your petals some depth and definition, grab a toothpick and use it to curl the tips of the petals, as well. Each petal can be curled twiced, either facing inward or outward, depending on the finish you’re looking for.

wrapping petals around skewer

However, you only need to do this for two of the four sheets as they’ll be the outer petals. The other two will go inside.

folded petals

This next step might prove to be a little tricky. carefully dab just a little glue on two opposite petals.

glueing petals

Next, bring the two glue-dipped tips together and stick them in place to form the center bud, as seen below.

glueing petals together

Now dab some glue on two more opposite petals and bring them in to stick them around the center bud.

holding petals

Repeat this one more time with the remaining two petals, and you’ll have a nice little bud for the center of your rose.

glueing petals together

Grab the second of the inner layer sheets and apply glue to the center. Gently stick the conical bud you made just now in the center and hold it till the two components are stuck together.

glue in center of petals

Net, apply thin lines of glue down each of the six petals.

glueing petals

Pull them towards the bud and stick them all together, albeit with some room for them to look like the petals are unfurlurling.

glueing down petals

Take on of the outer sheets–the ones whose edges you curled–and stick the center to the bud, as seen below.

adding petals to rose bus

Once again line some glue along the petals and bring them inward to stick them in place.

adding glue to petals

Repeat this one last time for the outermost petal layer and once you’ve stuck the center to the bud, you can proceed to glue the petals, too. You will notice that the petals look fluffy add soft because of how you curled the tips earlier!

adding glue to petals

If you like, you can stick a circle of washi tape around the bottom of the flower, for an added decorative touch! Your roses are all done, and don’t they look like a million bucks?

adding decorative tape

Here you go, your roses are finished.

  • 4x paper squares* (3.5" x 3.5")

Instructions

  • Gather your supplies to get started on making these paper roses.
  • To begin with, take the first of your four square sheets of paper and fold it in half to form a triangle. Fold it in half once again to form a smaller triangle, and crease it down the middle before unfolding this last fold.
  • Grab a pencil and make a marking about 1.5 inches from the top centre. Bring the opposite corner up towards that mark and fold the paper all the way down. Repeat this step with the opposite as well, and fold the coinciding corner.
  • Now grab your pencil and draw the petal. You can experiment with the shape and size. Grab a pair of scissors and cut out your six-petal flower sheet. Repeat these steps with all four sheets of paper.
  • Next, grab a wooden skewer and place it along the center of one petal, carefully curving the paper around the skewer to plum up the petal. Repeat this with all six petals of all four sheets till they look like little hexagonal cups.
  • Now grab a toothpick and curl up the very tip of the petals of just two of the four sheets of paper. These will be the outer petal layers and will make your rose look fluffy.
  • Take one of the inner sheets and line the tips of two opposite petals with glue.bring them up and stick the ends together to form a conical bud. Repeat this with the remaining two opposite-facing petals till you have a nice bud for the center of the rose.
  • Take the next layer and apply glue to the center before sticking the center bud on top of the second layer. Hold the two together till they adhere. Now use a toothpick to apply a thin line of glue down each petal and gently bring them inward and overlap them when you stick them to the back petals of the bud.
  • Repeat this step with the two outer petal layers, too. You will notice that the tips will be fluffy frow=m when you curled them with toothpicks.
  • You can stick a bit of washi tape around the bottom of the flower, too, for an added decorative touch.

Your paper roses are all ready. Just allow them to dry completely first, and you’re set.

Did these with my family and they all turned out terribly. Instructions were hard to follow, or incomplete, and they look like a crumpled up ball of paper. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey Thomas,

did you check the video as well? We make videos for all of our crafts, so that doesn't happen! I know I can find it hard to follow instructions myself but the pictures should be helping with that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAvQw9nCIwg

Anyway, sorry to hear it! I hope the video is of better help.

Friday 12th of January 2024

These are absolutely beautiful and you've made it look so easy!

Your web page isn't fully loading for me though and I am not able to see all of each flower. Is there any way you can make this printable? I do better with it on paper in front of me at the beginning. I'm just wondering about it.

Thank you so much!

Sunday 14th of January 2024

I don't have a printable but you can watch the tutorial on video as well if that would make things easier for you :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAvQw9nCIwg

How to Make Paper Roses

Paper roses are a fun craft to make and require minimal supplies. They also make a great gift to give to someone special! You can make paper roses using the rolling method which is both quick and easy. Alternatively, you can make paper roses using the folding method which takes a bit longer and requires more practice. Both methods have a beautiful and impressive end result!

Rolling Paper Roses

Step 1 Get 1 sheet of A4 construction paper.

  • The number of paper roses that you can make per sheet of paper depends on the size of each rose. In this example, 1 sheet of A4 paper is large enough to make 1 paper rose.
  • You don’t have to use construction paper. Cardstock, scrapbooking paper, music sheets, and old book pages can all also be used. [2] X Research source
  • Popular paper colors for roses are pink, red, white, yellow, orange, and blue. [3] X Research source
  • For each rose that you want to make, cut out 1 circle.
  • A circle that is 4 in (10 cm) in diameter is just an approximate size. Use smaller or larger circles to adjust the size of your paper rose. [5] X Research source
  • If you are wanting to make smaller roses, trace around a circular coffee mug. [6] X Research source
  • For an uneven variation, try using a utility knife and doing it by hand.
  • Alternatively, you don’t need to draw a spiral on the circle if you feel confident in cutting one without having a guideline.
  • You can draw a spiral with slightly wavy edges rather than straight if you prefer. [8] X Research source
  • Roll the paper tightly so that it doesn’t easily unravel.
  • The flat base is the bottom of the rose.
  • Once the glue is dry, it the rose is complete and ready to use.
  • Alternatively, you can use craft glue rather than hot glue, however, this will take a much longer time to dry.
  • If you’ve never used a glue gun, simply plug it in and slide the glue stick through the back. Push the trigger a few times and wait for the hot glue to come out of the nozzle.

Folding Paper Roses

  • You need 4 squares to make 1 paper rose. Make more squares if you want to create more paper roses at the same time.
  • Cardstock is the best to use for this type of paper rose because it is strong enough to hold all of the layers and glue together.
  • This looks like 3 smaller triangles.
  • Do this on all 4 sheets of folded paper.

Step 9 Cut out petals from each rose pattern.

  • This means that the first pattern has all 6 petals, the second has 5 petals remaining, the third has 4 petals remaining, and the fourth has only 3 petals remaining. [23] X Research source
  • The petals that you have cut out that you need to keep are the group of 2 petals and the 1 single petal. The rest can be discarded. [24] X Research source
  • The size of the circular piece of paper depends on the amount of paper that you cut out to create the petal shapes. Approximately 2 in (5.1 cm) will work in most cases. Measure the size of the ring first if you are unsure.
  • To attach the layers, place the glue around the base of the rose. Then press the layer of petals onto the base to help it stick together. Repeat this process for each layer of petals.
  • Use either a hot glue gun or craft glue to attach each layer.
  • Let the rose dry once it is complete. [28] X Research source

About This Article

Nicole Bolin

To make a paper rose using the rolling method, first cut a 4-inch circle out of construction paper. Once you have your circle cut out, use a pencil to draw a spiral that begins at the edge of the circle and ends in the center. After you’ve made this guideline, use scissors to cut along the pencil line to get a spiral. Starting at the narrow end of the spiral, tightly roll the paper toward the center. When you get to the center of the spiral, fold it to make a flat base that will be the bottom of the rose. Let the rolled rose uncoil to the size you want and then glue the flat base to the bottom of it to finish your rose. In today’s post: Learn how to make stunning paper roses with this free printable paper rose template! Easy step by step instructions for making paper roses, including printable templates in five different colors and a video tutorial.

How to make paper roses; three paper roses in a vase.

With just a few supplies, you can turn plain paper into beautiful paper roses! Use the flowers to decorate your home, gift them to someone special on Valentine’s Day, or make a bunch to decorate tables at a wedding. These roses look realistic because they use paper that’s been printed on both sides with the same pretty design. And this isn’t special craft paper you’ll need to buy: it’s plain old paper that you can print our designs on using your home printer! Each DIY paper rose takes one sheet of paper and looks like this when complete:

Gorgeous, right? And, happily, it won’t die when I neglect to water it.

Printable paper rose template

I created a free template in five different colors for you. The one you see below is a purply/red and it’s my favorite. Each template has two pages: one is the front page and one is the back, so be sure to check “double sided” on your settings before printing. (Or just print page 1 and then re-feed the piece of paper before you print page 2 on the back.) The front of the templates has four squares you’ll cut out, and the back is just a full page of the same pretty watercolor design. All the cutting lines are marked, so there’s no need to trace anything!

Cut out the Petals

To make a paper rose, begin by printing a template on both sides of a piece of printer paper (not card stock). Cut out each of the four squares on the paper rose template. Fold each square in quarters, making sure to keep the curved lines on top. Cut along the curved lines. Also snip off the corner or point of the heart to make a small hole.

paper rose template cut out in squares

Open up the papers and you’ll have four “petals”. Each petal has lines on it. Cut along the lines.

paper rose petals cut out

Discard the piece of paper that says “discard”. Now you will have 7 pieces: one with seven petals, one with six, one with five….all the way down to one with one petal.

paper rose petals cut along the lines into 7 different size pieces

Glue + Curl Petals

Take the first piece and glue along one of the cut lines. Overlap the other cut line slightly and press together to adhere. This curves the petals to give it more of a flower shape.

Putting glue on cut edge of petal

Repeat with all the pieces except for the one-petal piece. For that one, just use a toothpick to help curl it in on itself.

Roll the edge of each petal around a toothpick to curl it outward. You now have 7 sets of petals that you will layer together to make a paper rose.

All seven paper petals glued together with edges curled down.

Assemble the Rose

Place a dot of hot glue about 1 inch from the top of a piece of floral stem wire (or any other wire).

Putting hot glue on a floral stem.

Slide the biggest petal onto the stem and down to the dot of hot glue. Add more hot glue if needed to secure it to the stem.

Placing largest petal over floral stem and securing with hot glue.

Place another dot of hot glue inside the first petal and slide the next largest petal down on the stem. Add more hot glue and the next petal, and continue until you have added all the petals. As you add petals, position each one so the petals don’t completely line up with the ones below it for a more natural look.

Adding remaining petals, large to small, onto floral stem.

Optional: you could wrap the bottom of the rose with floral tape if desired (I did not do this). You could also cut out small leaves from green color paper and add them if desired.

– Ruler, Pencil and Scissors

– Glue

Step-by-step photo tutorial to make a paper rose for kids (and beginners)

STEP 1: Cut the paper

Take an A4 color paper (or letter size). Here we took red paper.

We need square paper to make the petals, therefore cut a square of length 20 cm from the A4 paper and remove the excess.

How to make a paper rose easily (cut a red paper)

Now we have a 20 cm square paper.

STEP 2: Fold the paper to make four more squares

How to make a paper rose easily (fold paper to make more squares)

Take the square paper we just cut. Fold it in half from top to bottom and make a crease (2a and 2b).

Now fold it again in half from left to right (or vice versa) and make another crease (2c and 2d).

STEP 3: Cut the squares

Cut along the creases and now you will have four square pieces (3a and 3b).

e. Now cut a small hole at the pointed end.

f. Repeat the steps from 4a to 4e with the rest of the 3 square papers.

g. Open up the papers and you will get a petal shape with a hole at the center.

h. Now we have 4 petal shapes.

STEP 5: Cut segments

How to make a paper rose easily (cut segments from the petal shape)

a. Take any petal shape. Cut one segment from it (5a). You can discard the segment you just cut out. Save the remaining part with 7 segments.

How to make a paper rose easily (cut segments from the petal shape)

b. Take the second petal shape. Cut two segments from it (5b). You can discard the two segments and save the remaining part of the flower with 6 segments.

How to make a paper rose easily (cut segments from the petal shape)

c. Take the third petal shape.

When you cut three segments from it, you will be left with a shape with five segments (5c).

Along with the segment we just cut out which has three segments, save the leftover cutout with five segments, as we need both to make the rose flower.

How to make a paper rose easily (cut segments from the petal shape)

d. Take the fourth petal shape. Cut four segments from it (5d). Save one of the parts with four segments and discard the rest.

Note : Except for one segment (step c), you can discard the parts you are cutting out.

How to make a paper rose easily (cut segments from the petal shape)

e. When you cut the third petal shape and save the cutout with 5 segments (step c), you will be left with five petal pieces in total, like in the above picture (5e).

STEP 6: Stick the petals end to end to form each layer

How to make a paper rose easily (stick the petals end to end)

a. Now, take each petal piece starting from big to small, and stick the end segments on top of one another to form each layer of the petal.

How to make a paper rose easily (stick the petals end to end)

b. Do this on all five petal pieces and you will get five layers of the rose’s petal (6b).

STEP 7: Make the sepal of rose

How to make the sepal of a paper rose easily

a. Take a piece of green color paper and cut a square of length 5 cm (7a).

b. Fold the paper in half horizontally (from bottom to top – 7b)

c. Fold it again (from left to right- 7c)

d. Make a crease (7d)

How to make the sepal of a paper rose easily

e. Now fold it from the left top side to the right bottom side to form a triangle (7e).

How to make the sepal of a paper rose easily

f. Now we have to make two cuts on two sides of the triangle. As shown in the picture, draw a horizontal line perpendicular to vertex A of the triangle. Cut along the line (7f).

How to make the sepal of a paper rose easily

g. Draw another line parallel to the side AB. Cut along the line (7g).

How to make the sepal of a paper rose easily

h. Now, to make a hole, make a small cut at the third vertex (vertex C).  And open up the paper to get the sepal shape (7h).

Step 8: Make the stem of the paper rose flower

How to make the stem of a paper rose easily

Take a green paper and cut a square of size 15 cm.

Starting from one corner, roll the paper as thinly as possible. When you reach the opposite corner, apply glue and stick it.

STEP 9: Insert the petals and sepals into the stem

How to make a paper rose easily

Starting from the smallest petal layer, insert the layers one by one into the stem you just made.

And finally, insert the sepal and apply some glue to the inner portion of the sepal to stick it to the bottom portion of the largest petal to secure the flower.

Step 10: Curl the petals

How to a paper rose easily

Curl the edges of each petal segment outwards to make it look real.

And thus the easy paper rose flower is ready.

Go to this tutorial to make a beautiful paper vase to put these paper roses in. For this paper vase, it’s best to make a smaller paper rose. We recommend taking a 10 cm paper square to make the smaller rose instead of 20 cm.

Make Miniature Paper Roses for Cute Crafts

Make miniature paper roses for fun paper craft projects and decorations. These tiny paper roses look surprisingly realistic and are easy to make.

Quick Links to Information in this Post

At this point, it’s no secret I love paper roses. I’ve made a real-size paper rose and two giant paper roses (my spellbound rose and my winter rose ). But when I went to decorate my paper arbor luminary , I knew what I needed for it — miniature paper roses! I was a bit concerned with making them tiny enough, but I figured it out! So I want to share with you how I make miniature paper roses, too!

Now you might think it would be difficult to make paper roses so small, but the secret is in the shape . By using a spiral pattern and rolling them up, it’s faster, easier, and more realistic looking. Real flower petals grow in a similar spiral shape, so these look like the real thing … but really tiny!

Here are close-ups of the miniature paper roses:

Closeup of two miniature paper roses made with red and green cardstock

You’ll note these roses look a little different from one another , and they are! The rose on the right is a more natural looking rose, while the one on the right is more tidy and regular. Pick the miniature paper rose style you like best, or mix and match them for more realism!

Two miniature paper roses made from red cardstock in a hand

I’m excited to show you how to make miniature paper roses for all your craft projects!  This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience (which means if you make a purchase after clicking a link I will earn a small commission but it won’t cost you a penny more)!  Read my  full disclosure policy .

Materials to Make Miniature Paper Roses

  • 65 lb. cardstock (I used red for the petals)
  • Tool to roll flowers (you can also make your own DIY quilling tool with my tutorial )
  • Standard Grip Cutting mat (the 12″ x 12″ size)
  • A way to cut your cardstock and vinyl (I used the amazing Cricut cutting machine! )
  • Design #105 – My free SVG design files (available in my free resource library —get the password by filling out the form at the bottom of this page)

How to Make Miniature Paper Roses

To begin, cut out your cardstock using my free miniature rose SVG, DXF, or PDF files  (Design #105) found in my resource library . I have two different rose petals details, both optimized for their small size. The one with larger petals looks more realistic, and the one with smaller petals looks more tidy. I included two different sizes in my file — use the one that works best for you!

Make Miniature Paper Roses on the Cricut with this Free Pattern

CUTTING MACHINE NOTE:  If you’re not sure how to upload an SVG file to Cricut Design Space or another Design Software, or you’re having issues (such as getting a message that says “unsupported file”), please watch my free training series,  The Joy of SVGs . If you’re on an iPhone or iPad, check out my post on How to Upload SVG Files to Cricut Design Space on iPhone & iPad!

Cricut Tip: If you cut these on a Cricut , I highly recommend you use a NEW StandardGrip mat with a clean blade. This will help you make these intricate, detailed cuts without ripping your cardstock.

Once your petals are cut, it’s time to roll them up into miniature paper roses! To begin, orient your petal just like this:

Spiral red petals ready to roll up into miniature paper flowers

Pick up your quilling tool and insert the tip into the slot at the end of your quilling tool.

The tip of a red spiral petal pattern is inserted into the tip of a quilling tool to make miniature paper roses

Now you rotate the quilling tool TOWARD you, rolling up the paper as you go. The key is to keep the paper tightly rolled around the tip of the quilling tool and also keep the base straight.

Rolling up a miniature paper rose around a quilling tool

This might take a little practice. I find it’s really helpful to two things:

  • Brace the rolled petals against the pad of my finger — this helps them stay in place and keeps their bases straight.
  • Squeeze the petals as I spin them up, as this helps the petals take a curved shape and stay on the quilling tool better.

When you’re done rolling the flowers around the quilling tool, gently pull your miniature paper rose off by holding the petals between your thumb and forefinger:

Pulling a miniature paper rose off the quilling tool

If done correctly, you’ll have just a little circle left, like shown in the photo above. Now fill the base with tacky glue, making sure the glue gets down into the flower.

Putting glue in the base of the rolled miniature paper rose

Now just press that circle down onto the glue and press down to make sure it makes good contact.

Putting glue in the base of the rolled miniature paper rose

If your petals are poking out a bit in the center, you may find it helpful to press down the petals and the base at the same time. This also helps ensure that the glue is making contact with the bottom edge of the majority of the petals.

Allow your miniature paper rose to dry, then use as you wish! It really only takes about a minute to make a miniature paper rose, so you can make quite a few quickly. Here are a bunch of tiny paper roses I made in one evening while playing a game:

Miniature paper roses ready for crafts!

Now you may be wondering just what the heck you can use these miniature paper roses for! Well, I made them to decorate this paper arbor luminary:

Two dozen miniature paper roses on a paper arbor arch

There’s about two dozen of these miniature paper roses on this garden arbor arch … which is also a luminary! You can learn how to make this paper garden arbor here !

But you could use these for SO many projects—cards, gifts, shadowboxes, dollhouses, and so on. I look forward to finding out how YOU use them!

Step 4: Cut Segments

  • Apply glue on edges of other three smaller pieces we removed from the flower shape, roll and press
  • Allow the glue to dry

Now we have all six pieces of the rose shapes as seen in last picture

Step 7: Arrange Petals and Glue

Arrange Petals and Glue

  • Take the largest piece and place the second largest inside. Do not apply glue immediately
  • Arrange all other glued pieces inside. Adjust each piece in a different manner to see how they can be glued to make look like real one
  • Apply glue lightly and stick each piece separately
  • Our Paper rose is ready. Please see the finished one in the picture above

Instructions for making the crepe paper roses

Trace the rose template patterns on the selected crepe paper. Cut out the traced patterns using scissors. You can cut as many petals as you want.

crepe paper rose petals

Select green colored crepe paper for the rest of the patterns from the template (the stem cover strip, leaf, and sepals. Trace and cut out the green patterns.

step 2 1 - Crepe Paper Roses: DIY Crepe Paper Flower

Cut out a 12 cm x 3 cm craft paper strip and roll it diagonally from a corner to create a paper pipe. Prepare a strip of green coloured crepe paper and cover the craft paper pipe by wrapping the crepe paper strip around it. This will be the stem of the flower.

Now grab the stem and the petal cutouts. Take any one of the small petal cutouts and apply a small amount of craft glue along the bottom end of it. Wrap the glued part of the petal around the tip of the stem, overlap about a cm of the petal and the stem to join them.

step 4 1 - Crepe Paper Roses: DIY Crepe Paper Flower

Apply glue on the bottom ends of the rest of the small petals, so that you won’t need to apply glue each time you attach a petal. Grab the glued petals one by one and wrap the glued part around the previously wrapped petal. Keep adding petals one after another. First wrap the small petals and then go for the medium ones.

step 5 1 - Crepe Paper Roses: DIY Crepe Paper Flower

Done adding the medium petals? Now start adding the large petals. For every next petal, do not wrap it over the previous one. Overlap about 1 cm of both petals and then wrap the rest of the current petal around the stem.

This is how the flower looks like from the bottom end. Try keeping the bottom side of the petals glued firmly to keep the pattern secured.

Continue to add petals until you are satisfied with the volume of the rose pattern.  Take the sepal cut out and apply glue on any one side of it.

Crepe Paper Roses

Insert the sepal cutout into the stem’s open end through the hole, keeping the glued side towards the flower’s bottom side. Firmly attach the glued side of the sepal with the bottom side of the flower.

Attach the leaf with the stem to complete the Crepe paper flower.

How to make simple paper roses and beautiful roses for Mothers Day

I love Mother’s Day.  Yes it might be overly commercial, but it is a wonderful reminder for us all that Mothers are amazing.  Plus with two little boys in the house that love giving and making cards and gifts it is the perfect opportunity for them to express their creativity.

As much as I adore homemade flowers such as our beautiful cake case daffodils, nothing beats the simple rose.

I was sent some beautiful old fashioned David Austin Roses from Debenhams Flowers (yes I too had no idea Debenhams did flowers) and they are divine.  So much so we are getting the MIL’s Mothers Day flowers from them.

Debenhams flowers are exceptionally good value and to make it even more so they have given me an exclusive code for 25% off to share with you, my lovely readers and yes there is still time to organise a flower delivery before Sunday 15th March.

(this pic is by Annie at Mammasuarus as I managed to delete all the images I took on my camera, the top image is off my phone!)

However, I thought I would also share how to make paper roses with you, as it is soooooooo simple and they look fab.  Plus they last forever!

  • CD or plate to draw around

Instructions

Draw a circle on some coloured paper and then using scissors create a spiral with it.

For smaller children draw the spiral in pencil before getting them to follow the line and cut it.

Once cut start rolling the spiral from the outside in.  To secure use a glue dot or a glue gun with hot glue

It really is as simple as that!

You can make the red roses more fancy by cutting the outside edge with a pair of decorative scissors.  We had a go with four different pairs and at cutting the spiral thinner and thicker to create different styles of roses.

This is fab fine motor activity for kids of all ages.  For younger kids just make the circles and spcirals larger and make the smaller for older ones.  They look amazing made from red paper, but would also look equally as good from pages of a book.

How to Make a Paper Fan Flower

Step by step directions on how to make easy paper flowers using the accordion style.

  • Different Colors of Colored Craft Paper
  • Paper straw
  • Hot Glue Gun or glue stick

Instructions

  • Gather supplies needed to make a paper fan flower. You can make different sizes by using different sized pieces of paper. You'll need two pieces of paper the same size per fan flower.
  • Make an accordion fold with the paper. Fold a one inch crease, flip the paper over, and fold another one-inch crease in the opposite direction. Keep flipping back and forth until the entire sheet of paper is in an accordion.
  • Repeat the same steps for the other piece of paper.
  • Fold both papers in half horizontally. (If desired, use a pair of scissors to cut a rounded petal shape at all ends.)
  • Glue their edges together with hot glue or a glue stick. Then glue the two pieces together so it makes a round fan shape.
  • Cut a small circle out of the same colored paper or a different color and glue it on the center of the flower. To make the center pop out a little more use self-adhesive foam pieces!
  • Finally, glue a paper straw or plastic stick in between one of the flower petals and you're done!
  • Make a bunch of different colors of the paper fan flowers if desired and place in a vase or use a hole punch to string them up to hang.

Taxpayers encouraged to try innovative new option before April 15 deadline

IR-2024-68, March 12, 2024

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service announced today the full-scale launch of the innovative Direct File pilot and encouraged eligible taxpayers in 12 states to try the new service to file their tax returns online for free directly with the IRS.

The pilot effort has been in testing mode for several weeks, allowing early users to file their 2023 federal tax returns online for free and directly with the IRS. Thousands of taxpayers have successfully used the system, and early users are giving the new option positive reviews.

Following the initial Direct File success, the IRS is moving the pilot out of the test phase, allowing all eligible taxpayers in the 12 states – representing 19 million taxpayers – to use the system at any time. Taxpayers can log in to Direct File to start their return and complete it any time before the April filing deadline.

“The early results from Direct File have shown taxpayers like the ease and convenience of the tool, and moving into the full-scale launch of the pilot will give more taxpayers the chance to use this free option,” said IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel. “Expanding Direct File as the tax deadline approaches will provide more taxpayers a way to file directly with the IRS for free, and it will give us more valuable information to assess this pilot. For those who haven’t filed their taxes in these 12 states, we encourage them to visit IRS.gov and see if Direct File is the right option for them.”

Direct File is one of many options that taxpayers have to file their taxes, including tax software and tax professionals. For the pilot, the IRS worked on a streamlined way for people with simpler tax situations to file directly with the agency.

“A team of experts from across government built and tested the Direct File pilot to give taxpayers an easy, accurate free way to file their taxes online directly with the IRS,” Werfel added. “Our goal with the Direct File pilot is to help people meet their tax obligations as easily and quickly as possible. We developed Direct File from the beginning with taxpayers’ help, and we’ll continue to talk to taxpayers about their experience to learn more about what taxpayers want for future digital services.”

Direct File walks the taxpayer through the complexities of the nation’s tax code to complete their filing easily with an accurate calculation of their refund or tax owed. Direct File is designed to be easy for taxpayers to use. At every step, it shows the work behind the calculations, so users can be confident that the tax return is complete and accurate. Once taxpayers start their return on the Direct File site, they can pause and then securely sign in to finish any time before the April filing deadline.

Users can also get support from special IRS customer service representatives through Direct File’s live chat feature. Direct File, like other electronic filing options, allows taxpayers to typically get their refund in less than 21 days when the direct deposit is chosen.

“We’ve gotten great initial feedback from the thousands of taxpayers who used it during testing,” Werfel said. “Many taxpayers we’ve heard from filed their taxes in less than 30 minutes using Direct File and praised it as an easy, no cost tax filing experience.”

Who’s eligible?

Taxpayers in 12 pilot states who meet certain requirements can use Direct File through the April tax deadline. Pilot states include:

  • Massachusetts
  • New Hampshire
  • South Dakota
  • Washington State

After completing their federal returns, taxpayers in the states with a state-income tax – Arizona, California, Massachusetts and New York -- will be guided to a state-sponsored tool to complete their state tax return.

The IRS designed the pilot to follow the best practices for launching a new technology platform by starting small, making sure it works and then building from there. The pilot is purposefully limited to cover relatively straightforward tax situations.

The Direct File pilot is an option for taxpayers who fall into these categories:

  • Report income earned from jobs that generate a Form W-2; including taxpayers with more than one job with W-2 wages;
  • Claim Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and the Credit for Other Dependents;
  • Claim the standard deduction and deductions for educator expenses and student loan interest;
  • Lived in the same state for the entire calendar year 2023.

Interested taxpayers can go to directfile.irs.gov , where they can determine if they are eligible. Using Direct File requires identity verification through ID.me. Once their identity is verified and they’ve signed in securely to Direct File, they will be providing the tax information directly to the IRS, not a third party.

For taxpayers who visit Direct File but aren’t eligible for the pilot, they will be directed to Free File on IRS.gov . Now in its 22nd filing season, taxpayers across the nation can access free software products provided by IRS Free File trusted partners. Through this public-private partnership, tax preparation and filing software providers make their online products available to eligible taxpayers. Eight private-sector Free File partners provide online guided tax software products this year to any taxpayer with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $79,000 or less in 2023. Free access to online products is available by starting from IRS Free File.

Direct File pilot for filing season 2024

The IRS launched the Direct File pilot for the 2024 filing season. The Inflation Reduction Act mandated that the IRS study interest in and feasibility of creating a direct e-filing tool taxpayers could use to prepare and file their federal income tax return. The IRS commissioned an independent study, which indicated broad interest in such a system, which the IRS detailed in a Direct File Report to Congress in May 2023.

Shortly after that report, as directed by the Treasury Department, the IRS assembled a team of tax experts, technologists, engineers and strategists from across government to build the Direct File system. The IRS worked closely with the U.S. Digital Service and the General Services Administration’s technology office 18F to build and test Direct File.

Initial testing began in early February 2024 with a handful of federal and state government employees, followed by short open availability windows for more taxpayers to start their returns. On March 4, the IRS announced that Direct File would enter final testing, which included an allotment of available spaces with more spaces added every day. Direct File is now open to all eligible taxpayers in pilot states to decide if it is the right option for them to file their 2023 federal tax return online for free, directly with IRS.
