Over the next two years, JetBlue will make major improvements to their A320s to improve the cabin experience, including providing the most legroom in coach.

All of JetBlue's new A320 aircraft have a redesigned interior, including all-leather Rockwell Collins Meridian seats, 10 percent more overhead bin space and LED cabin lighting. The seats offer improved cushion comfort and knee space as a result of a thinner seat profile and thinner armrests. The new sidewall structure adds space to the cabin and increases shoulder space at the window seats. All middle seats now have an underseat entertainment equipment box, which limits foot and storage space.

JetBlue offers passengers the ability to upgrade to “Even More Space” seating. In addition to providing an extra 3-6 inches in seat pitch, JetBlue’s “Even More Space” provides passengers with early boarding privileges, early access to overhead bins, and a fast track through security (only available in select cities). These seats are located in the first 5 rows and in the Exit Rows of the Core cabin. “Even More Space” pricing varies by route length. These seats can be purchased from JetBlue directly at the time of booking or at check-in.

There are more than 80 Airbus A320s in the Jet blue fleet and by taking delivery of a new plane every few weeks, they expect to have 202 A320s in their fleet by 2012. This plane has a total seating capacity of 156 passengers in a single class layout and is used mainly on medium-haul flights having a range of 2700 miles. With the widest fuselage of any single-aisle aircraft, the Airbus A320 offers customers wider seats and aisles, more overhead storage space and greater legroom than any other aircraft in its class. All seats are equipped with an entertainment system, featuring 36 channels of DIRECTV® plus more than 100 channels of XM Satellite Radio for free and, on flights longer than two hours, a selection of movies on FOX InFlight Premium Entertainment. JetBlue Airways took to the air on February 11, 2000 with the inauguration of service between New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Fort Lauderdale, FL. The airline currently serves 32 cities around the US and the Caribbean with a fleet of Embraer 190 and Airbus A320 aircraft. Jet Blue was the first airline to offer 24-channels of live satellite television free at every seat and to broadcast the Olympic Games live, the first U.S. airline to install bullet-proof cockpit doors across its fleet and the first airline to install security cameras in passenger cabin for customer and crew safety. JetBlue’s redesigned A320 airplanes have one-upped the previous models. In the current Airbus A320 seating, JetBlue uses leather seats from Rockwell Collins Meridian. These upgraded seats are softer, more comfortable, and thinner, providing more knee space. A sidewall structure makes the cabin roomier, LED lights and a 10 percent increase in overhead bin improves cabin comfort.

The JetBlue A320 seat map features middle seats with stashed entertainment boxes. Passengers flying within the continental USA can listen to over a hundred satellite radio channels. They can also watch DIRECTV programs on 36 stations, and if the flight lasts beyond 2 hours, they get access to FOX Entertainment movies. There is free internet in-flight with the Airbus A320 JetBlue Fly-Fi service. Due to variables like weather, the internet service may not always be available. Passengers can buy alcoholic drinks for $5, but non-alcoholic beverages and unlimited snacks are complimentary.

The JetBlue Airbus A320 seat map boasts the most expansive cabin in an airplane with a single aisle. Its passengers enjoy wider seats, more spacious aisles, and legroom. The deeper overhead box, free internet, and more entertainment options set this aircraft apart from others in its class.

Even more space.

In the JetBlue A320 seat map, the rows closest to the front exit are in the Even More Space class. This compartment has 30 reclining seats labeled from 1A to 5F. These five rows have four additional inches of leg space and tray tables. The legroom could have been more if not for the bulkhead. The windows don’t line up with the A and F seats from the second to the fourth row in the JetBlue Airbus A320.

This Even More Space class has 12 extra seats in the 10th and 11th rows located in the exit row parallel to the aircraft’s engines. These seats have the best legroom in the fuselage, but the armrests are slightly thinner because of the tray tables. The seats in the 12th row prevent the last Even More Space row from reclining fully, as the action can further take up the former’s legroom. Even More Space seats also lack floor compartments during take-off and landing.

Most of the JetBlue A320 interior space houses the Coach seats. They include seats 6A to 9F and 12A to 25F. Seats 9A and 9F don’t recline. The windows of the 12th, 13th, 18th, and 19th rows don’t align with the seats.

All seats in the Coach category in the A320 JetBlue don’t have as much legroom as those in Even More Space, but they aren’t uncomfortable. Seats 25A to 25F also have limited recline angles, and, like seats 24C and 24D, they can be less convenient than other seats in the aircraft. According to the JetBlue Airbus A320 seat map, these seats are near the toilets. Their overhead compartments have less space because crew members store food in them. Passengers in those seats may occasionally have to adjust for crew members to retrieve food from the storage space.

This seat was great! I was blown away by the number of new features JetBlue has to offer on their restyled A320s. Flight was delayed on the ground and in the air, and the IFE made up for the air delay because there were so many options! Also amazed that I was able to charge my phone!

This is the retrofit with 2 new rows... the cushion felt stiff. It was a short 2.5 hour flight from Orlando to San Juan, but you can sense the reduction in pitch and the new seat which is skinnier. I wouldn't be able to do a flight longer than 3 hours on these seats. Bring your own cushion or pillow.

The seat is really nice! Lots of legroom, window spaced perfectly next to the row, large IFE screen that's relatively straightforward to use, and AC power at your feet. The seat got a little stiff after about 3 hours, but it was an alright seat otherwise.

Seats are narrower (approx. 2 in.) and there is a missing armrest due to the exit hatch. Applies to rows 10 and 11 seats A and F.

We ended up in row 27 on this flight. My husband really wanted to see the Grand Canyon so we did everything we could to get a window seat. The only one left was in the last row. Once on the place we discovered that there is no window at all in row 27! And we couldn't see the window in row 26 either! Although the seats did recline, it felt claustrophobic without any natural light. Seats have been upgraded to have more modern TV & movies which helped a little. Bathrooms were newly remodelled and a bit odd. One bathroom had trash above the toilet.

I fly JetBlue frequently, but this was the first time I have flown on a plane with this layout. The TV screens are much bigger than the old layout, but unfortunately none of them were working on my flight. Decrease in pitch was noticeable when the passenger in front of me reclined (the Extra. The seat itself was reasonably comfortable for and Economy seat. Each seat has a moveable headrest, so that you can bend the headrest to support your head. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until the end of the flight! These new seats also include an outlet at each/most seats. Again - this would have been great had they made that announcement at the beginning of the flight. Rear bathrooms are VERY tight. One of the doors doubles as a jump seat for a flight attendant (the seat folds down from the door). Location of my seat was fine. The line for the bathroom never extended that far. I felt that the underseat storage was a little better than usual (floor to seat bottom height seemed more generous). I didn't use the overhead. Note, the Even More Space seats in the front didn't seem to have as much room as those in the exit rows. The front rows seemed to have less leg room than the same seats in the old configuration.

I had the middle seat for my flight. Even though JetBlue has added 2 more rows of seats in the back, my legroom was not affected at all. There is an IFE box under the seat in front of you, so if you store something under that seat, your foot space will be tight. The lavatories in the back of the plane are very narrow and tight. Overall, power and USB outlet under the seat came in handy and the IFE was great!

This seat was wonderful. The legroom excellent. Everything on this Jetblue flight was perfect. I don't have any complaints at all.

Seat 3A had awesome legroom. My reclining option waas not working. Food and service was amazing. The entertainment system on the E190 and the A320 need to be be like the A321 with the all you can watch movie system. All though I love jetBlue but they need a safety video like all over airlines. Overall the flight was great, But my flight back to JFK was better because we got the A321.

We flew a 1-year-old a321, let me tell you this plane is so quiet i was asked if we were in the air, we got there on time despite 30 minutes gate change due to ground incident , My company airlines is united but i don't fly on boeing planes, i use united if its an airbus, despite one male flight attendant attitude JetBlue is perfect all the time, free drinks yes free jack daniels

Excellent seat, tv didn't work well but that's okay. Lots of legroom. Would spend the extra $ again for the legroom.

JetBlue is a nice airline, has more leg room than most other economy class seats which is nice. Seat 20A has a excellent view. I flew for 2.7 hours and the flight was comfortable, in short is an excellent airline and definitely would return to travel with Jetblue

This seat had the well of the window which I loved.

This was an extra legroom seat that was worth he upgrade on a 2.5 hour flight. I could stretch my legs fully (I am 5'11") and still could not touch the seat in front of me with my knees. This flight only had free prerecorded movies to watch with 2 in English and 1 in Spanish, as the DirectTV option is unavailable when not flying over the contiguous 48 states. Flight crew was very friendly and funny at times. The seat did feel a bit hard after 2.5 hours.

The seats on jetBlue Airbus 320 are too hard and without reclining mechanism. Imagine flying five o more hours in a seat like that. I think this a cheap way of the airline industry to save. Nothing to compare to those seat on the Boeing 707 and the DC8 of the 60th.

As much as I hate to say it, Jet blue's Airbus A321 was comfortable with lots of leg room. Boeing is sill my preferred plane, airlines set leg room not the plane makers. Jet Blue gets an A for comfort but a D- for not buying American

Where to Sit When Flying JetBlue's Retrofitted Airbus A320

JetBlue is in the process of updating its entire Airbus A320 fleet . Once the process is complete, there will be 20 aircraft with a "Phase 1" cabin, while the majority of planes will offer a standardized "Phase 2" design, which I had a chance to check out this week in Florida .

Both have similar layouts, with 162 seats, including 120 regular "Core" seats, with 32 inches of pitch (but a spacious feel, thanks to a thinner seat design) and 42 Even More Space seats, with most offering 35 inches of pitch.

Most of JetBlue's Even More Space seats are located in the first five rows, with 12 additional seats in rows 10 and 11. Then there are 20 rows of regular economy seats, in rows 6 through 9, and again in rows 12 through 27.

The retrofitted cabin offers three lavatories — one larger lav just behind the cockpit, and two positioned side-by-side in the rear galley.

Which Seats to Pick

Naturally, you'll be best off with an Even More Space seat, given that they're located near the front of the plane and offer three extra inches of legroom. Of the Even More Space seats, I'd opt for window or aisle seats in rows 2, 3, 4, 5 or 11.

Even More Space seats vary in price depending on the route and the seat you select — an exit-row seat on a short New York-JFK to Boston (BOS) hop could cost $27, while a far longer JFK-Reno (RNO) upgrade near the front of the cabin costs $75. While JetBlue Mosaic elites don't get to select Even More Space seats free of charge, it's possible to redeem points to upgrade at very reasonable rates .

Window and aisle "Core" economy seats in rows 6, 7 and 8 are decent picks, too. Located near the front, you'll be closer to the larger lavatory, and more likely to get your first choice of free snacks.

The rest of the Core seats are decently comfortable, too. While 32 inches of pitch may not sound like much, at 5'9" I had enough room to use a laptop comfortably, even with the seat in front reclined, thanks in part to the slimmer design (and a slight reduction in the recline of each seat).

Which Seats to Avoid

JetBlue added 12 seats during the retrofit process by installing slim-line seats that take up a bit less space, and moving the lavatories to the rear galley. Now, you'll find seats where those lavs once stood, in row 27. Sadly, there's no window available in this row, so I'd avoid all six seats here, along with the aisle seats in row 26, since the galley noise and light may be bothersome.

Obviously, all center (B and E) seats are to be avoided, given that you'll be stuck between two other passengers. They're fine if you're flying with companions, of course, but, if given the choice, I'd sit somewhere else.

And as tempting as it may be to select a seat in row 1, you won't find any floor storage here, and the seats are a bit narrower, due to the fixed armrests. They're also located just behind the forward galley, so you're more likely to be woken up by galley and lavatory traffic on overnight flights.

I'd also avoid selecting a seat in Row 10 — they're designated as Even More Space, and while there is extra legroom, being in front of the second exit row they unfortunately don't recline.

Bottom Line

JetBlue may be adding 12 seats as part of its retrofit process, but the added amenities — speedier and free ViaSat-2 Wi-Fi, HD in-flight entertainment with 100+ channels of DirecTV and a fresh design — plus an additional flight attendant compared with the old 150-seat config should make for a pretty comfortable ride.

First 5 rows include the seats of Even More Space category. The seats of the 1st row have extra 4 inches of legroom. However the bulkhead slightly restricts the legroom. As the tray tables are in the armrests the width of these seats is reduced. Also these seats have no floor storage during take-off and landing.

All A and F seats of the rows 2-4 have misaligned windows.

The next 4 rows are the seats of the Coach category. The main disadvantage of the seats 9A and 9F is the fact that these seats are not reclining.

Behind the exit row 2 rows of second section of Even More Space category are located. Passengers of the seats of the 10th row will take advantage of 5 more inches of legroom but on the other hand these seats are less reclining or not reclining at all due to another exit row located behind.

The seats of the 11th row are considered the best seats thanks to 5 additional inches of legroom that they offer.

The remaining 15 rows of seats represent the seats of Coach category.

The only disadvantage of the seats 12A, 12F, 13A, 13F, 18A and 18F is misaligned windows.

The seats 24C and 24D as well as the seats of the last 25th row have the following disadvantage: close location of the lavatories, restricted storage space in overhead bins that are used for food supply storage as result passengers may be disturbed by crew members that have to take this food supply. In addition the seats of the 25th row have restricred recline.
