T-Mobile for Business puts the spotlight on small businesses across the country

t-mobile-for-small-business-plans

Earlier today, T-Mobile for Business revealed three new small business plans under the name Business Unlimited. In addition to these new plans, T-Mobile for Business has announced its new fixed wireless internet, Facebook Advertising on Us with digital advertising, and digital marketing resources exclusively for small businesses. This is T-Mobile’s way of helping the small business owners cope as they go through the economical effects of the pandemic.

Here is more information on these new developments:

T-Mobile Business Unlimited Plans

These are the three small business plans that T-Mobile for Business has unveiled today. As of this writing, these are the only small business plans available in the country.

  • Business Unlimited Select $25/line/month – This plan comes with unlimited talk, text, and 50GB of “Premium Data”, 5GB high-speed mobile hotspot; unlimited texting and 2G data overseas; and unlimited talk, text and 2G data in Canada and Mexico. The plan, however, reduces the speed during times of network congestion.
  • Business Unlimited Advanced $30/line/month – This plan comes with unlimited talk, text, and 100GB of “Premium Data”, 40GB high-speed mobile hotspot, 1 hour of Gogo In-Flight Wi-Fi; unlimited texting and 2G data overseas; unlimited talk, text and 5G high-speed data in Canada and Mexico; HD video streaming; and Microsoft 365 on Us.
  • Business Unlimited Ultimate $40/line/month – This plan comes with unlimited talk, text, and “Premium Data”, 100GB high-speed mobile hotspot, 1 hour of Gogo In-Flight Wi-Fi; 4K video streaming; Microsoft 365 on Us; and 2x faster data internationally (256Kbps).

T-Mobile Small Business Internet

The need to stay online is greatly experienced by small businesses. Thankfully, T-Mobile for Business has introduced a way to address this need with its new fixed wireless internet service that costs $60/month with AutoPay and no annual contracts. It also doesn’t include any caps or overage penalties.

Once you sign up for this service, T-Mobile will ship a state-of-the-art Nokia 5G router to your business location, included in your monthly price with no added equipment fees. You can then perform the installation in minutes, without the need to pay for hookup fees. The service also comes with access to a team of dedicated experts who you can call whenever you need them.

For a limited time period, T-Mobile for Business is running a promotion on this service. When you sign up for the service between June 1st and June 30th, you can enjoy $10 off on the monthly rate. This means that you will only have to pay $50/month (with AutoPay) throughout the duration of the qualifying line. You can learn more about this offer here .

Facebook Advertising on Us

T-Mobile knows that in order to help your business succeed, you need to take things to social media. And one way you can do that is by doing ads the right way. This is why T-Mobile for Business has teamed up with Facebook experts to help improve your business’ digital marketing strategy.

The partnership gives small businesses three one-on-one consultations with a Facebook marketing expert. It also gives access to educational resources and thought leadership content to help you make the most out of your Facebook advertising strategies.

Not only that, every small business on T-Mobile with three or more lines will get $200 in digital advertising to use to market their business on Facebook and Instagram’s platform.

T-Mobile for Business’ Opportunity Sweepstakes

Lastly, T-Mobile for Business is running an Opportunity Sweepstakes for small businesses throughout the country.

When you join, you have a chance to win a 5G makeover for your business. You can be among the winners of the following:

  • Six small businesses will win a 5G smartphone or tablet
  • Five small businesses will win a package of five 5G devices
  • Two small businesses will win a full 5G makeover with five 5G smartphones, a 5G tablet, and $5000 to spend on anything

You can join this sweepstakes between June 1st and July 16th. For more information, visit this page .

These new developments will be available starting June 1st. To kick off its launch, T-Mo will be hosting a Facebook Live conversation with FUBU founder & CEO/ABC’s Shark Tank, Daymond John and T-Mobile for Business’ EVP, Mike Katz. The talk will take place virtually on June 1st at 11:00am PT. You can learn more about this here .

T-Mobile unlimited data plans

Why you can trust Tom's Guide Our writers and editors spend hours analyzing and reviewing products, services, and apps to help find what's best for you. Find out more about how we test, analyze, and rate.

  • Magenta Max ($85/month): One of T-Mobile's older offerings, this plan includes the same travel benefits as Go5G Plus, though you only get 5GB of data to use in Mexico and Canada. You're also limited ot 40GB of hotspot data.
  • Magenta ($70/month): Essentially, the Magenta plan is just like the Go5G plan, but with less hotspot data (5GB instead of 15GB) and only 5GB of data when traveling in Mexico and Canada.
  • Essentials ($60/month): This used to be T-Mobile's cheapest unlimited data plan, with only 3G speeds for hotspot data and few other perks. Your data speeds can be slowed if you use more than 50GB in a month.
  • Essentials Saver ($50/month): If you need only one line of data and can bring your own phone, you can sign up for this cheap unlimited plan, which otherwise has the same perks as Essentials. This is the only option families can't sign up for.

T-Mobile senior plans

  • Go5G Next 55 ($120/month for two lines): The senior version of Go5G Next, this plan lets you upgrade your smartphone every year.
  • Go5G Plus 55 ($100/month for two lines): Anyone 55 years or older can get a discounted rate on the Go5G Plus plan, while receiving the same streaming and travel benefits included with unlimited data.

T-Mobile prepaid plans

  • 12GB plan: T-Mobile's most expensive prepaid plan costs $35/month.
  • 6.5GB plan: Like the 3.5GB connect plan, T-Mobile adds 500MB of data every year through 2025. This plan costs $25/month.
  • 1GB plan: T-Mobile's cheapest prepaid plan is for people with minimal data needs. It costs $10/month.

Low-cost T-Mobile alternatives

Pricing on the best T-Mobile cell phone plans compares very well to comparable service at AT&T and Verizon , particularly when it comes to unlimited data plans. But there's a way to get T-Mobile service for even less — turn to a discount carrier that uses T-Mobile's network to provide low-cost coverage.

Such a service is known as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), and there are plenty that use T-Mobile for coverage. Our favorite happens to be Mint Mobile (which T-Mobile is actually in the process of buying). Mint offers four plans , ranging in price between $15 (5GB) and $30 (unlimited data) per month. You get those low rates by paying for your service in advance — prepaying for a year of data gets you the very best rate at Mint.

Mint's a popular choice because it includes full coverage on T-Mobile, including 5G speeds if you've got a comparable phone. As with any MVNO, you do risk seeing your traffic slowed if the network is congested and T-Mobile prioritizes its own customers.

Other MVNOs using T-Mobile's network include Tello , TextNow and Metro by T-Mobile. The latter service is owned and operated by T-Mobile.

T-Mobile cell phone plans

T-Mobile is not just a good carrier — it's currently the runner-up in our best phone phone carriers rankings. This position comes down to a couple of benefits and factors T-Mobile does very well.

When it comes to terms of plans and offers, T-Mobile is one of the most diverse options. It offers a wide array of prices that span family plans, unlimited data choices, prepaid plans and more.

Past that, our LTE network testing showed that T-Mobile is one of the faster carriers available, and subsequent testing by third parties backs that claim. In Ookla's most recent testing , T-Mobile was rated the fastest mobile operator in the U.S. with the best download and upload speeds.

T=Mobile also ranks well in 5G performance testing by third parties, with RootMetrics currently rating T-Mobile tops for 5G speeds and availability. (Verizon's 5G is judged to be more reliable.) T-Mobile's 5G service reaches more than 330 million people and through its incorporation of Sprint, 5G speeds have increased further by adding Sprints 5G into the spectrum. T-Mobile now offers its fastest 5G to 300 million people after an aggressive upgrade program.

T-Mobile also has weekly giveaways and a host of incentives for its customers. The carrier's blend of affordability, features and coverage make it a top choice if you're looking for a wireless provider who offers something more than just a low monthly bill.

T-Mobile Go5G Cell Phone Plan Review

What’s included in t-mobile’s go5g cell phone plan, how much does the t-mobile go5g cell phone plan cost, what is t-mobile.

T-Mobile, the second-largest carrier in the U.S., has grown considerably over the last decade, in part by eschewing such wireless-industry traditions as two-year contracts and data-overage fees. T-Mobile has also grown by acquiring other firms, including the prepaid service Metro PCS in 2013 and nationwide carrier Sprint in 2020.

The firm now provides 4G and 5G service throughout the U.S., with the latter service benefiting from a swath of mid-band spectrum that allows both fast speeds and decent coverage. (Rivals AT&T and Verizon Wireless have yet to match that with their own mid-band 5G offerings.)

Unlike AT&T and Verizon, T-Mobile does not provide wired broadband to homes, but it has started offering fixed-wireless broadband to homes on its 4G and 5G networks.

Plan Features

The T-Mobile Go5G plan (formerly Magenta, which is now only available to existing customers) starts at $80.00 a month for a single line, including all taxes and fees. It includes 100 gigabytes (GB) a month of “premium data,” after which your connection may be slowed if T-Mobile’s network gets congested, and 15 GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data, after which the maximum speed goes down to 3G. Streaming video is limited to 480-pixel DVD-grade resolution. Getting more mobile hotspot data and streaming video up to 4K ultra-high definition resolution will require upgrading to T-Mobile’s Go5G Plus plan (formerly Magenta MAX, now available only to current customers), which starts at $95.00 a month for one line.

The Go5G plan includes some extras, such as free unlimited 2G roaming in more than 215 countries and destinations and high-speed data up to 5 GB in 11 European countries (up to 10 GB in Canada and Mexico), as well as weekly freebies from the carrier’s T-Mobile Tuesdays app. Accounts with two or more lines of Go5G also get a free subscription to the basic tier of Netflix.

The network behind this plan continues to be a little thinner than competitors' networks in rural areas, but in and near cities T-Mobile’s 4G and 5G now consistently rank at or near the top in independent tests of network performance. Another plus is that the carrier’s 5G service uses mid-band spectrum that supports much faster speeds than 4G and allows for impressive coverage. According to T-Mobile, this “Ultra Capacity 5G” now reaches over 300 million Americans.

Go5G provides unlimited calling and texting and unlimited 4G and 5G data for one or more smartphones, with 100 GB a month per line getting priority treatment. This plan also lets you share 15 GB a month of that data with other devices via a mobile hotspot. Video streaming will appear in standard definition but can be changed to high definition, if available, by activating that feature in your phone’s media settings.

Go5G offers free texting and 2G roaming in most of the rest of the world (up to 5 GB of high-speed data in 11 countries), with calls usually running 25 cents a minute. T-Mobile’s Go5G plan includes four full-flight streaming sessions per year, where available, as well as one hour of streaming and unlimited texting while in flight.

T-Mobile’s Go5G plan costs $80.00 per month for one line, with discounts to add more: Two or three lines for $130 a month or four lines for $200 a month. Those rates include a discount for setting up automatic payments. T-Mobile offers its deepest discounts to customers ages 55 and up, who pay $60 for one line of Go5G, followed by military service members and veterans as well as first responders, who can get the plan for $65 a month. Those groups get comparable discounts on multiple-line plans.

T-Mobile Setup Fees

T-Mobile used to charge new subscribers $10 for a SIM card but has since dropped that fee to zero. The carrier does not charge upgrade fees if you buy a new device from it and begin new service.

Where Is T-Mobile 5G Available?

T-Mobile provides 5G on the same low-band frequencies as its 4G service, making it available across most of its footprint, but it also offers faster 5G on mid-band frequencies that it advertises as “Ultra Capacity 5G.” The carrier says the combined 5G network now covers 9,100 cities. You can check to see where it reaches near you at its coverage checker .

T-Mobile Optional Features

Video Streaming

T-Mobile’s Go5G plan offers a standard-definition streaming video resolution of 480 pixels, but you can change the media settings in your phone to view video in high resolution, up to 720 pixels, as long as the video is offered in HD. Keep in mind this will use more high-speed data. On two or more lines, Go5G comes with a basic Netflix account with SD resolution, but you may be able to watch streaming video in HD by changing the media settings. T-Mobile’s cheaper Essentials plan is limited to SD resolution, while its top-of-the-line Go5G Plus plan allows up to 4K UHD streaming.

International Services

One of T-Mobile’s first self-styled “Uncarrier” moves to set itself apart from competitors was to include free slow-speed roaming throughout most of the world. That continues to be part of the Go5G plan, in which you get unlimited 2G data roaming and free messaging in more than 215 countries and destinations (up to 5 GB of high-speed data in 11 countries), plus voice calls at 25 cents a minute. The Essentials plan leaves out the free 2G roaming, while the Go5G Plus plan offers up to 5 GB of high-speed data in more than 215 countries and destinations and then 2G roaming speeds up to 256 kilobits per second after that. The Go5G and Go5G Plus plans also include 10 GB and 15 GB respectively of 4G data in Canada and Mexico, while Essentials limits free roaming there to the standard 2G speed of 128 Kbps.

Other Services

T-Mobile includes automated robocall screening on its plans but sells an upgraded Scam Shield Premium for $4 a month for the Essentials and Go5G plans (it’s included in the Go5G Plus plan). Customers can also buy an extra 10 GB of 4G mobile hotspot data for $10 a month, although the 50 GB of mobile hotspot use included on the Go5G Plus plan means few people should need to buy more. T-Mobile also sells add-on plans for such connected devices as tablets or smartwatches at prices ranging from approximately $10 to $20 a month, depending on your smartphone plan.

T-Mobile vs. the Competition

T-mobile vs. verizon.

T-Mobile beats most of Verizon’s prices while offering a faster 5G network, and its rate plans are also much simpler than Verizon’s – there are fewer to consider, and most of them include all taxes and fees instead of leaving them as a surprise.

Frequent travelers will find added advantages with T-Mobile’s In-Flight Connection On Us service, which offers either full-flight or free one-hour streaming per flight using Wi-Fi, depending on airline availability and the plan you have, as well as its slow-but-free international roaming, which allows you to get off the plane and take your phone out of airplane mode without worrying about running up your bill.

You may find that T-Mobile’s coverage can’t match its older rival’s, though, especially if you live or work in rural areas.

Plus, fans of streaming media may find a better overall deal with Verizon that includes a bundle of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ on its Play More Unlimited plan, assuming they were already set on paying for those services.

T-Mobile vs. Mint Mobile

Mint Mobile uses T-Mobile’s network while substantially beating its prices. Mint sells an unlimited data plan for $30 a month on one line – about half the cost of T-Mobile Essentials. The catch with Mint is that this $30 rate requires signing up for a 12-month term. Mint also provides only 35 GB of 5G data while limiting this plan to 5 GB of mobile-hotspot use and 480-pixel video streaming.

Mint’s 15 GB plan, at $25 a month on a 12-month term, has no streaming resolution limit or separate mobile hotspot cap.

Bargain hunters will want to watch out for Mint’s frequent sales, while world travelers should be wary of Mint’s much pricier international roaming.

Customers looking for in-person support should note that Mint’s help is limited to phone and online channels, while T-Mobile has 7,500-plus retail locations.

T-Mobile FAQ

T-Mobile was the first nationwide U.S. carrier to discontinue the two-year contracts that pushed people to buy phones from carriers, and it remains particularly welcoming to customers who bring their own devices. Any U.S.-market smartphone sold today should work on its network, requiring only the SIM card that it will provide for free. It also sells the same variety of smartphones as its competitors. You can check your phone's compatibility on T-Mobile's website by entering its 15-digit International Mobile Equipment Identity number.

T-Mobile has also been exceptionally generous with promotions for people switching from different carriers. Its current deal offers up to $800 to pay off any remaining installment-plan payments on a qualifying 5G device you bring from another carrier.

T-Mobile offers a three-month free trial of its network that doesn’t require buying any new hardware. Using its Network Pass service on certain unlocked iPhone, Google Pixel, and Samsung Galaxy 5G models, you can download the T-Mobile app and then its eSIM card to activate this. The plan comes with 50 GB of free high-speed data.

The carrier also offers a Test Drive, which is a 30-day free trial of its mobile hotspot service. T-Mobile will send you a hotspot and SIM card that you can connect to Wi-Fi to use. This service is good for 30 days or when 30 GB of data is used, whichever comes first.

T-Mobile has a 14-day return policy (20 days for online purchases) that lets you return a device purchased from the carrier for a full refund within that time frame. However, you may have to pay a restocking fee of $20 to $70, depending on your device’s original price.

You’ll have to talk to a T-Mobile representative on the phone to cancel service, although its website allows you to schedule a callback. If you still owe installment-plan payments on a device you bought from T-Mobile, you’ll have to pay off the balance with your last bill.

  • T-Mobile has faster 5G and more "premium" data than Verizon for a lower monthly cost.
  • However, Verizon tends to have better coverage, especially in rural areas.
  • You'll need a 5G phone to make the most of any of these plans.

Insider Today

T-Mobile and Verizon are often compared when picking a mobile carrier, as T-Mobile is more affordable than Verizon, and you might be wondering why.

Despite this price disparity, T-Mobile gives you more unthrottled, "premium" data in the basic and mid-range plans compared to Verizon's comparable plans. Plus, T-Mobile has better international and travel perks than Verizon.

At the same time, Verizon generally has better coverage, especially in rural areas. Verizon also has better perks overall, especially if you subscribe to Hulu, Disney Plus, or ESPN Plus. You can also get 50% off a connected device plan for smartwatches, tablets, or hotspots.

T-Mobile vs. Verizon: Coverage

Generally speaking, Verizon has more expansive coverage than T-Mobile, especially in rural areas. With that said, T-Mobile has improved its network to better cover highways, even boasting it has twice the 5G coverage on highways compared to Verizon.

You can check out each carrier's LTE and 5G coverage map below. Just note that these maps are taken from each carrier's website, and have not been independently verified.

In our experience, the general consensus that Verizon has better coverage, especially in rural areas, is true. However, the several T-Mobile users we know aren't bothered when they don't have signal in a rural area while a Verizon user does.

Verizon's coverage map

You can get a closer look at Verizon's coverage where you live and where you often go on the Verizon website . The map will also show you finer coverage detail for Verizon's mmWave 5G Ultra Wideband network.

T-Mobile's coverage map

You can get a closer look at T-Mobile's coverage where you live and where you often go on T-Mobile's website . The map will also show you finer coverage detail for T-Mobile's mmWave 5G Ultra Capacity network.

5G coverage

T-Mobile claims to have better 5G coverage with faster-than-LTE speeds than Verizon, and that much appears true, according to PCMag's annual Fastest Mobile Networks project .

T-Mobile vs. Verizon: Is network speed or network coverage more important?

Our experience shows that coverage is more important than speeds.

While T-Mobile has a more expansive, faster 5G network than Verizon, just note that faster data speeds don't matter if T-Mobile doesn't reach your most frequented areas. Any coverage at all, even if it means slower data, is better than no coverage for phone calls or texting, especially around your home and home town, or in case of an emergency.

T-Mobile vs. Verizon: "Premium" data vs. normal data

T-Mobile and Verizon offer "premium" data, referring to full-speed, unthrottled data regardless of network traffic.

Normal, non-premium data can still deliver full speeds, but it's "deprioritized", which means data speeds can be throttled down when the carrier's network is experiencing high traffic from heavy data use by lots of people at the same time.

T-Mobile offers more premium data in its basic Essentials (50GB) and mid-range Magenta (100GB) plans than Verizon's equivalent 5G Start (no premium data) and Play More/Do More plans (50GB).

T-Mobile vs. Verizon: 5G network types

First off, 5G is the next generation of cellular networks, and it's designed to be a major upgrade over the 4G LTE we've been used to for years. T-Mobile and Verizon basically have two types of 5G networks.

T-Mobile's Ultra Capacity 5G and Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband networks are high-band and mid-band 5G networks. High-band 5G networks have short range, but deliver the fastest speeds. Mid-band 5G networks have medium range, but they can still carry faster speeds than LTE.

T-Mobile's Nationwide Extended Range 5G and Verizon's 5G Nationwide networks are low-band 5G networks. Low-band 5G networks have the longest range of the three, but their speeds are only comparable to LTE.  Carriers are working to improve data speeds on their low-band 5G networks.

As you might expect, you need a 5G-compatible phone to connect to a 5G network of any kind.

T-Mobile Essentials vs. Verizon 5G Start plans

T-mobile magenta vs. verizon 5g play more and 5g do more plans, t-mobile magenta max vs. verizon 5g get more plans, which is the best carrier for you: t-mobile or verizon.

T-Mobile offers the best value, most premium data, and fastest data speeds if you know for a fact that its networks cover your home region and the places you usually travel to. It's also the best option if you often travel to Canada and/or Mexico, and the 210-plus Simple Global countries .

Verizon offers a decent amount of premium data in its Play More/Do More plans, but we don't recommend the 5G Start plan. The lack of premium data and lack of access to Verizon's fastest Ultra Wideband 5G network in the basic 5G Start plan is a red flag. Still, Verizon is the best option if you know T-Mobile's coverage doesn't reach certain areas you frequent, and Verizon has tempting media streaming subscription perks.

You've picked a carrier, now here are the best phones

Most mid-range and premium phones come with 5G connectivity, and they'll make the most out of these unlimited data plans from either T-Mobile or Verizon.

We recommend the iPhone 13 as the best phone overall for most people, and Android users should take a good look at the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus . Check out why and our other recommendation for the best phones you can buy in 2022 .

t mobile business rate plans

4G LTE is often simply known as LTE, is a wireless network standard that carriers began introducing to the mainstream in 2010. It provides fast data speeds, but its limited capacity results in slower data speeds, especially in congested areas like major cities.

5G is the next generation of cellular networks, and it's designed to be a major upgrade over 4G LTE. The main benefits of 5G include significantly higher capacity, faster data speeds, and lower latency.

Higher capacity means more devices can stream and load heavy-duty content without congestion.

Faster data speeds means you can stream and load higher quality photos, videos, and music.

Low latency results in a snappier, more immediate experience when browsing the web, loading content in apps, or playing multiplayer games.

Low-band 5G networks have the longest range of the three types, but their speeds are only comparable to LTE.

Mid-band 5G networks, also known as "C-band," have medium range, but they can still carry faster speeds than LTE.

High-band 5G networks, also known as millimeter wave (mmWave), have short range, but deliver the fastest speeds that can be even quicker than the average home's internet speed, which is about 224 megabits per second (Mbps), according to Ookla's Speedtest .

Premium data : Both T-Mobile and Verizon have replaced the old "unlimited" data cap system with their "premium" data models. That means there's no longer a data cap for unlimited data, where if you used a certain amount of data you would either get throttled to significantly slower speeds, or charged for extra data use.

Rather, the current "premium" data model means you get full-speed, unthrottled data up to a certain data cap. After you've used up all your premium data, you still get full-speed data, but your connection gets "deprioritized" and speeds can be throttled down when the carrier's network is congested with high-traffic use.

T-Mobile 5G is rolling out now across the US and is taking advantage of different versions of 5G technology to help it improve coverage and capacity.

Similar to AT&T, T-Mobile has also rolled out a lot of low-band 5G, which isn't great for speeds. That so-called 5G Extended Range network was started in 2019 and is essentially 4G with a few enhancements to make it quicker. T-Mobile rightly calls it a "foundational layer of its 5G network" and while that's true, it's not really full 5G.

It does have the benefit of huge coverage though, cover more than 200 million people and more than 1 million square miles across the US - over 8,000 cities.

One thing's for sure - T-Mobile is gaining customers at some speed. Figures from the fourth quarter of 2019 point towards a million 'postpaid' customers; people who pay a monthly bill. 77,000 pay-as-you-go or prepaid customers were also added over the period.

T-Mobile remains the third biggest network in the US, despite it having absorbed the Sprint network in a protracted deal that closed during early 2020. After the acquisition, it has just over 100 million subscribers across the US.

According to the network, it has added 53 million users since 2013. Not surprising when you have had 27 successive quarters with over a million new users added.

Among the 5G test projects that T-Mobile has carried out, the network has been using 5G-embedded cameras to virtually put fans on the baseball field in order to catch the action from the players’ point of view and go behind the scenes. They're mounted on players hats and catchers masks - T-Mobile says this is the first time that 5G embeddable cameras have been integrated into a professional sports league event. Each camera features a real-time HD stream.

T-Mobile has also worked with Major League Baseball to create an augmented reality app for fans with bonus stat views for T-Mobile 5G customers.

In a measure of how T-Mobile sees itself, CEO Mike Sievert will deliver the keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2022.

Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CTA: "The pace of innovation has accelerated over the last 18 months, and the rapid roll-out of 5G will only increase the momentum. There’s so much excitement in this space and for the first time, we welcome Mike Sievert to our keynote stage to share more about T-Mobile’s vision for fuelling 5G innovation."

Speed and reliability

In May 2021, RootMetrics released its first-ever 5G Scorecard , which shows the race between the US’s  5G networks . Although AT&T was best for Everyday 5G download speeds, T-Mobile offers the broadest Everyday 5G availability of any carrier according to the tests. RootMetrics tested the 125 most populated metropolitan markets in the US.

T-Mobile holds a significant lead in the race for Everyday 5G availability, according to RootMetrics, recording the highest Everyday 5G availability in 44 out of 65 total cities tested to date.

T-Mobile was also recently been hailed as the most reliable 5G network in the US according to consultancy Umlaut. The network had the best overall score of the US networks with an overall 707 points out of a maximum of 1000. The tests were carried out using the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.

In a clear ranking of how the network rollout is panning out, Verizon scored second overall with 632 points with AT&T bringing up the rear with 599 points.

In terms of reliability, T-Mobile also achieved the highest score with 664 out of a maximum of 800 points. In contrast, Verizon ranked second with 560 points and again AT&T was third with 520 points.

"umlaut’s report is just the latest to prove customers and businesses alike can count on T-Mobile 5G to deliver a fast and reliable 5G connection in more places than anyone else," said T-Mobile's Neville Ray.

"While the other networks play catch up, we’ll keep adding more 5G coverage and capacity to bring a transformative experience to customers across the country."

Ookla also recently rated the network as the fastest 5G network in the US. The testing - carried out during the first quarter of 2021 - saw the network clock 82.35Mbps download speeds, followed by AT&T at 76.6Mbps and Verizon with 67.24Mbps. Ookla’s study also found that T-Mobile customers spent more time connected to a 5G network, than customers on rival 5G networks.

T-Mobile 5G cities

The 5G Extended Range network covers 8,300 US towns and cities. It is still be able to get to speeds of around 450Mbps if conditions are at their best, although expect significantly slower speeds than that generally. Essentially, it is like a quicker form of 4G LTE.

T-Mobile's Ultra Capacity network is different. It's a millimeter wave (mmWave) network similar to that which we've seen from the other US providers - but not providers in Europe. It provides the fastest speeds, but has poor range. T-Mobile says it is upgrading 1,000 cell towers a month for this, covering 100 million Americans. However, it is really only in some areas of the very largest cities at present.

T-Mobile 5G phones

T-Mobile originally offered the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and the OnePlus 5G before launching the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren on an exclusive in the US.

Like most other networks offering 5G globally, T-Mobile has now added the Samsung Galaxy S20, S21 and iPhone 12 to its roster in 2020/21.

Apple iPhone 12

Apple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini

The whole iPhone 12 range comes with the latest A14 Bionic platform so there's no performance limitation for going for one of these 6.1-inch or 5.4-inch handsets (the Pro has more RAM though). Both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are available in Black, White, Red, Green, Blue.

The standard iPhone 12 is our pick of the iPhone 12 range.

Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max

Apple iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max

The 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro doesn't do enough to distinguish itself from the same-sized  iPhone 12.

However, the Pro Max certainly does with its huge 6.7-inch display and sheer desirability. The cameras are among the best we've seen, especially in low light. It's eye-wateringly expensive, though.

Google Pixel 4a 5G

Google Pixel 4a 5G

While Google's best 5G phone is the Pixel 5 (not currently available on T-Mobile), the Pixel 4a 5G is certainly much more affordable. Not to be confused with the standard Pixel 4a, the 5G version is based around the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset and features a large 6.2-inch OLED display. There's a dual-camera setup with 12.2 megapixel wide and 16 megapixel ultrawide camera sensors and you'll get 128GB of storage and 6GB of memory, too. And, naturally being a Google phone, you're guaranteed of the latest Android updates.

Samsung Galaxy S21

Samsung Galaxy S21 5G

Samsung's latest S Series phone is a hugely impressive 6.2-inch handset. It may longer be the only tech king in town, but it's still using bran new tech inside, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 platform at its core. We like the triple cameras which are much better - particularly with low light - than earlier models. It also has decent battery life, too.

Samsung Galaxy S21

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

At over half an inch bigger than the standard model, the 6.8-inch S21 Ultra is a luxury phone. The camera system just about makes it worth it if you want the best, with a five-camera setup that includes a 10x optical zoom. Like the standard S21 it runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. There's even support for the S Pen stylus, too, should you want that.

Samsung Galaxy S20

Samsung Galaxy S20 5G

Capable of 8K video recording and with a large  6.2-inch AMOLED display, the standard S20 is no slouch, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 platform for the US market. Like the others in the range, it has super-fast charging, too.

Available in cloud pink, cloud blue and cosmic grey, it's only around in a 128GB version only.

There's a triple camera (not quad like the other S20s) and it has a 64 megapixel main sensor. It's also got a 30x digital zoom, too.

Samsung Galaxy S20+

Samsung Galaxy S20+

The 6.7-inch S20+ is available in three colours - cloud blue, cosmic black and cosmic grey - and adds an extra storage size to the standard S20 in the form of 512GB in addition to 128GB.

Again it offers a 64 megapixel telephoto lens and 12MP ultra-wide camera setup, but the S20+ (and Ultra) offer quad-camera arrangements.

The price premium for the S20+ is not extensive over the standard S20 and as such is worth considering.

Samsung S20 Ultra

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

Slightly bigger - by 0.2-inches than the S20+ - the S20 Ultra clocks in at 6.9-inches and features an upgraded camera.

Storage capacities are the same as the S20+ at 128 and 512GB. However, the Ultra is only available in cosmic black or cosmic grey.

So what's better about the camera? Firstly there's the zoom - the S20 Ultra is capable of 100x (rather than 30x) while there's an extremely large 108 megapixel camera sensor to go alongside a 48 megapixel telephoto lens.

You won't find the 100x zoom that practical, but using it is fun.

T-Mobile 5G coverage

For its 5G Ultra Capacity network, T-Mobile is using 28 Ghz mmWave (millimetre wave), just as Verizon is. That means excellent download speeds, but a more difficult blanket rollout. That's because the shorter wavelength signals don't travel so far and are easily blocked in urban areas or by external walls - so you need loads of 5G nodes.

You only need to look at T-Mobile's current coverage maps to show the issues around mmWave deployment - it's extremely patchy.

So as we mentioned, T-Mobile has also opted to use low-band 600Mhz spectrum. The low-band spectrum can also carry 5G signals inside.

Before the T-Mobile launch of low-band 5G, Sprint was leading the way with low-band and it's one of the reasons that Sprint and T-Mobile felt they would be a good fit by merging, which they duly did.

T-Mobile 5G deals

In terms of SIM-only, T-Mobile 5G offers service plans at $15 for 2GB (not enough, in our opinion), and $25 for 5GB. The plans also offer 100GB of free monthly home internet to 10 million American families. And if that wasn’t enough, the company also gives free wireless service to every first responder in America.

Currently, Samsung Galaxy S20 5G is available on T-Mobile from $31.25 a month on a 24-month deal providing you put $349.99 down plus tax. You can also buy it outright from the network for $1,099.

Magenta Max is a new plan specifically made for a 5G world - it won't slow down based on how much data you use.  T-Mobile says that nearly 50% of Magenta MAX customers use a 5G smartphone, and they use noticably more data – 43% more music, 48% more video and 26% more social media.

The network says that "on average these customers on average have each listened to the equivalent of 360 more songs, watched 576 more minutes of video and made 1,512 more posts on social media than our other customers."

T-Mobile 5G business and home internet

T-Mobile Business has announced three new plans as of early 2021. The three plans are:  ‘Enterprise Unlimited’  plans, a set of business mobile tariffs to offer 5G with “unprecedented value”;  ‘Home Office Internet’ , providing a dedicated connection for business use; and  ‘Collaborate’ , which is a suite of mobile-first, cloud-based apps.

"Today we’re unveiling a comprehensive set of T-Mobile for Business solution, unlocked by our 5G network, to solve real problems, and empower business to do business whenever, and wherever they need to, and we’re calling it T-Mobile WFX, and it includes three key solutions to help businesses work from anywhere, says T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert.

T-Mobile Home Office Internet covers more than 60 million households at launch, close to half of all homes in America, with plans to cover more than 90 million households by 2025. And T-Mobile’s new Collaborate service will be available as part of ‘Enterprise Unlimited’, or on a standalone basis.

Pricing for T-Mobile Home Office Internet starts at $90 per line per month, and Enterprise Unlimited with T-Mobile Collaborate together start at $37 per line, per month; with T-Mobile available as a standalone product from $12 per month.

T-Mobile's Home Internet covers 30 million homes at present for $60 a month. "I’m proud to announce that we're launching T-Mobile Home Internet," said Mike Sievert, T-Mobile CEO at the launch of the service in April 2021.

"More than 30 million homes are now eligible. That's almost  one in five American households available today. And that makes T-Mobile one of America's largest ISPs by service area - Verizon says they won't even reach that many homes in their fixed 5G  wireless for nearly two more years.”

T-Mobile 5G for business

Like the other big US networks, T-Mobile sees big opportunities for businesses willing to invest in 5G, especially around the internet of things and remote connectivity.

In May 2021 T-Mobile for Business announced new small business rate plans and fixed wireless internet for small businesses. These plans feature unlimited talk, text, and data plus high-speed mobile hotspot data with every plan, more Premium Data and an option for unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi. Some plans also include Microsoft 365 subscriptions, too.

Like other networks, T-Mobile has its fair share of test bed tech. The latest is a driverless car service in Las Vegas powered by T-Mobile 5G. Yep, no driver - Halo began driving on Las Vegas public highways earlier this year - you simply summon a vehicle using a mobile the app.

The car picks you up, drops you off and carries on to its next destination. However, while it is driverless, it is not fully autonomous; the vehicles use proprietary RemotePilot tech where drivers remotely operate the vehicle over the 5G network. The car will come to a safe stop if a hazard is detected while the vehicles are learning using AI in order to work towards eventual Level 3 autonomy.

According to an early 2021 report by Accenture, the pandemic has changed the way people work and socialize, with 79% of respondents wanting to work from a “third space” – a location other than their home or workplace.

T-Mobile also collaborates with universities and standards bodies to support  5G technology  research and development, operating the T-Mobile Accelerator, T-Mobile Ventures investment fund. It's also a co-founder of the 5G Open Innovation Lab.

Meanwhile, 87% of enterprises expect their employees to work from home three or more days per week - tomorrow's office is pretty much anywhere.

T-mobile vs. metro: is premium data worth the premium price.

Metro is one of T-Mobile's prepaid brands and it's one of the best for heavy users on a budget with unlimited data

T-Mobile is focused on fast data with all of its postpaid plans including some premium data. T-Mobile also includes taxes and fees with many of its plans, as well as multiline savings to make the carrier a strong option for families.

  • Excellent 5G coverage on the T-Mobile network
  • Premium data on every plan
  • Multiline discounts
  • Taxes and fees are extra on Essentials
  • Plans can get very expensive

Metro by T-Mobile

Metro by T-Mobile is a prepaid carrier running on the T-Mobile network with multiple unlimited plans to choose from. Metro is a good value for families looking to save with multi-line discounts and taxes and fees included in the price.

  • Low prices for unlimited data
  • Taxes and fees included with all plans
  • Full 5G access on all plans
  • Connection fee is a bit steep
  • No HD streaming on any plan

Metro has been a part of T-Mobile since 2013 and uses the same network for coverage with a handful of unlimited plans of its own, but its plans still provide unique value to those looking to save on wireless. Metro by T-Mobile includes taxes and fees with all its plans and offers multi-line discounts for those bringing the family. T-Mobile’s postpaid service may still be a better pick for some with premium data, larger hotspot data options, streaming perks, travel perks, and early phone upgrades.

Since T-Mobile and Metro use the same network, all the same devices work on either carrier, so you can use any of the best Android phones with full 5G access. If you’re ready for a new phone, you can pick one up unlocked, but if you want a payment plan, T-Mobile may offer a better deal, especially with a trade-in.

Best phone carriers in 2024

Mobile carrier features.

T-Mobile is a fairly straightforward pick these days with a 5G network that’s been rapidly expanding in rural and suburban areas, helping T-Mobile to shake off a coverage disadvantage that held it back during the LTE era. With its current network offering some of the best data speeds and plans designed to take advantage of that, choosing T-Mobile makes a lot of sense for a family that uses a lot of data.

Even T-Mobile’s cheapest plans come with a chunk of premium data, which offers a slight advantage over Metro customers when a tower is congested. T-Mobile also offers stronger international features. Even the cheap Essentials plan comes with full usage in Mexico and Canada, albeit with lower data speeds.

T-Mobile also offers some streaming perks with its larger plans, such as including Netflix Standard with Ads with most of its plans and Apple TV+ and Hulu on its top plans. To that end, T-Mobile also offers HD streaming on some of its plans, while Metro sticks to 480p for all its plans. T-Mobile also provides hotspot data on even its cheapest Essentials plans, which can be very helpful, even if it's at 3G speeds.

Metro by T-Mobile sticks to a more classic prepaid layout, with more basic features and several add-ons available for those who want them. While Metro still has a cheaper 5GB plan for those on a budget, most will consider one of its three unlimited plans. All these plans get access to T-Mobile Tuesdays, a set of discounts and perks available through an app for T-Mobile customers and ScamShield to protect against scam calls. These three plans also get a one-year subscription to Vix, a streaming video service with Spanish Language shows and sports, such as Liga MX.

Regarding add-ons, Metro starts with international features, such as the popular $5 Mexico and Canada unlimited option offering 5GB of data while roaming in these countries. It also gets unlimited calls and texting to and from Mexico and Canada. You can add calling to 15 other Latin American countries for $10 per month, as well as a Global Voice add-on for other countries.

For data add-ons, Metro offers 2GB and 10GB data add-ons for limited plans, though you should consider an unlimited plan if you use these frequently. You can also get Google One cloud storage at 200GB or 2TB. And if you stream a lot of video, HD video can be added to your plan for $10 per month. Finally, both carriers offer ScamShield Premium and device protection add-ons.

One thing Metro gets very right is that taxes and fees are included in the plan's price. This makes it easier to comparison shop since you’ll have a better idea of what you’ll be paying off the bat. Naturally, autopay needs to be enabled to get the best rates and the first month is $5 extra. T-Mobile also includes taxes and fees with most of its plans, but on its cheaper Essentials plans, they're extra, which makes comparing them to other budget plans a bit more tedious.

Coverage and reception

As you might expect, T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile use the same network for coverage, including 5G. T-Mobile plans generally get higher priority data, which matters more in congested areas, but with so much Ultra Capacity 5G coverage at hand, most people will have no trouble with network speeds on either carrier. It’s just worth noting that if you want the best possible speeds, T-Mobile’s high-end plans have them.

T-Mobile’s 5G network mostly consists of n71 and n41 band coverage, though some areas also get speed boosts with carrier aggregation using bands n25 and n66. T-Mobile has some mmWave spectrum for very congested areas, like sports arenas, but for the most part, you’ll be using the carrier's mid-band 5G coverage. This isn’t a bad thing, as this coverage can deliver speeds over 1Gbps, with plenty of speed for streaming, browsing, and uploading to social media.

For the most part, you can expect identical coverage for both these carriers in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, including roaming coverage from partners. All Metro by T-Mobile and T-Mobile plans get the same 5G access, so there’s no need to get a more expensive plan for the best speeds like there is on Verizon and its prepaid carrier Visible .

Phone compatibility

Phone compatibility is one of T-Mobile’s strengths with a highly compatible network and common 5G bands. If your phone only supports LTE, and it’s unlocked, it’s still likely to work on T-Mobile’s network until you’re ready for a 5G upgrade. T-Mobile works with the most popular devices, including Samsung Galaxy phones, Google Pixel phones, and, of course, Apple’s iPhones. T-Mobile also works great with smaller brands like OnePlus. Even in our Nothing Phone 2a review , a phone designed for European markets, the phone worked fine on a T-Mobile-based carrier, Google Fi.

If you’re looking for a new phone, T-Mobile comes out ahead, with a large device selection and strong discounts for new customers, especially if they have a phone to trade in. Some of T-Mobile’s biggest discounts require one of its top plans, like Go5G Plus, so discounts won’t be consistent across all plans. Even so, a high-end device like the Galaxy S24 Ultra can be as much as $1,000 off (over 24 months), which can be worth it for some folks.

Metro by T-Mobile also sells phones with a focus on cheaper devices. That being said, Metro is offering many phones for free for customers who bring their numbers to a Metro plan, so if you don’t need the fastest SoC, it can be a great option. You could even get one with a stylus, like the Moto G Stylus 2023 , or the T-Mobile Revvl 6x Pro for free with Metro.

If you want to bring a high-end phone to Metro, you can. Any of the best T-Mobile phones unlocked, and most unlocked phones for that matter, can be used with T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile without problems.

As you might expect, plans are the biggest differences between these two carriers. While both stick to unlimited data for the majority of their offerings, T-Mobile’s plans have premium data and more in-depth options for travelers. Both carriers also include taxes and fees on most plans, making it easier to determine exactly how much the service will cost at the end of the day.

T-Mobile's plans

T-Mobile’s plans aren’t exactly cheap, with its top plan starting at $100 per month, but with multiline discounts and a wide range of features across its seven base plans, there's a good chance you’ll find something that fits your needs. On the cheaper end, Essentials and Essentials Saver plans include 50GB of premium data and unlimited 3G-speed mobile hotspot data. They also come with usage in Mexico and Canada with 128Kbps data speeds. Essentials Saver starts at $50 for a single line but can be as low as $100 with four lines. Taxes and fees are extra with these plans.

Go5G takes the premium data up to 100GB and adds 15GB of high-speed hotspot data. You get six months of Apple TV+ when you sign up, and video streaming quality gets a bump from 480p to 720p, as long as you go into your account settings and enable it. For travel, you get four full in-flight Wi-Fi sessions when you travel by plane, and 10GB of high-speed data to use in Mexico and Canada. And 5GB of data is available in 11 other countries. This plan starts at $75 for a single line with multiline savings.

Go5G Plus makes all domestic data usage premium data and upgrades the hotspot data to 50GB. Netflix with Ads and Apple TV+ are included, and video streaming quality gets a bump to 4K quality. Usage in Mexico and Canada comes with 15GB of high-speed data, and full in-flight Wi-Fi is supported. You also get 5GB of data when visiting one of 215+ countries. What sets this plan apart is that customers are upgrade-ready every two years, receiving the same discount as new customers. This plan starts at $90 per month and increases to $225 for four lines.

If you’re looking for the best of the best, Go5G Next upgrades the Go5G Plus plan with Hulu with Ads, and upgrade-ready status every single year. That means you can upgrade to the latest model with all discounts intact before you actually pay off your old phone. While most customers will need to wait for their two-year payment plan to end or pay off the rest of the phone to upgrade, Go5G Next customers are ready to go after a year.

T-Mobile offers many discounts with plans and pricing for 55+ customers, members of the military as well as veterans, and first responders. You can also get these plans with multiple lines to include your whole family with your discounts. T-Mobile also requires autopay to be enabled for its lowest prices, so be sure to set that up right away if you choose T-Mobile.

Metro by T-Mobile's plans

Metro by T-Mobile’s plans are a bit simpler with just four options. Starting at the very bottom of the stack, a $30 plan with unlimited talk, text, and 5GB of data is available. Unsurprisingly, this plan costs exactly as much as customers can save with the Affordable Connectivity Program, a federal government program that helps pay for internet connectivity for low-income homes.

For most users, Metro’s plans start with the $40 Unlimited plan. The plan offers unlimited data with full 5G access on T-Mobile’s network. Calls and texts are unlimited in the U.S. and T-Mobile ScamShield helps prevent scam calls from reaching you. This plan also gets a one-year subscription to Vix, a Spanish-language streaming service. Metro’s unlimited plans have multiline discounts, so if you need four lines, this plan costs just $100 per month.

Moving up, the $50 Unlimited plan adds 8GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data to your unlimited data. This plan also includes a 100GB Google One membership for cloud storage and access to Google’s VPN. If you want to bring four lines, this plan costs $140 per month.

Metro’s top plan, the $60 Unlimited plan, increases hotspot data up to a full 25GB and provides international unlimited texting to 210+ countries. You also receive the same 100Gb Google One membership as above and the one-year Vix subscription. If you bring four lines, this plan costs $150 per month.

Keep in mind that all Metro by T-Mobile plan prices include taxes and fees, but also a $5 discount for using autopay. All videos stream at 480p quality, though you can upgrade to HD video for $10 per month with an add-on. Metro also claims that it may slow your speeds if you use more than 35GB before the end of the month and the network is congested.

Which should you choose?

When it comes to pricing, Metro by T-Mobile comes out ahead thanks to its cheap unlimited plan. This plan includes unlimited talk, text, and data for just $40 per month, with taxes and fees included. T-Mobile’s nearest plan, Essentials, packs in a few extra features to justify its higher cost, like 3G hotspot data, but just doesn’t feel like such a good value, because you’ll still owe taxes and fees on the T-Mobile plan. With Metro by T-Mobile, this plan costs $100 for four lines.

Metro’s data is at a lower priority and lacks premium data, but for most users, the dip in speed won’t matter much outside of a speed test, as long as you’ve got strong 5G coverage, which most will on T-Mobile. Metro by T-Mobile also may charge a one-time connection fee of $25 per line, so your initial payment could be quite a bit higher on Metro. That being said, at the time of writing, there's a promotion waiving the fee when you sign up online. Even with that extra fee, it beats paying taxes and fees every single month on T-Mobile’s cheapest plan.

Great budget friendly carrier option

While Metro lacks some of T-Mobile's higher-end features, like premium data, it stays focused on the basics with unlimited data, solid multiline discounts, and the excellent T-Mobile 5G network behind it.

While Metro by T-Mobile makes a strong appearance on the low end, T-Mobile offers much more with its premium plans than Metro could hope to. If you want the fastest data possible, for example, choosing a premium data plan, like Go5G, can keep your speeds higher in congested areas. Taxes and fees are included with these higher-tier plans and they qualify for a third-line free promotion. This plan also gets a bump to HD video streaming, which is good for those who watch gaming content, and 100GB of premium data, so you get full 5G speeds for longer. Last but not least, if you travel out of the country, T-Mobile gives customers 10GB in Mexico and Canada with this plan, and 5GB in 215+ other countries.

Offers premium plans for heavier users

T-Mobile, with its premium data and international roaming features, is still a great option for many. Multiline savings and fees are included in most of its plans, making it a good value for those bringing the whole family along.

T-Mobile debuts Go5G Plus plan that allows users to upgrade their phone every 2 years

T-Mobile unveiled  Thursday a rate plan that promises new and existing customers the same deals and phone upgrades every two years.

The new Go5G Plus sits at $90 per month for a single line with autopay, making it T-Mobile's priciest plan . It will be available starting Sunday, according to T-Mobile's website.

T-Mobile  described Go5G Plus as "a supercharged version" of Magenta MAX, T-Mobile's most expensive plan. Go5G Plus includes all the benefits of Magenta MAX, such as Netflix, Apple TV+ and unlimited data and adds a few more perks, including an additional 10GB of hotspot data and extra high-speed data in Mexico and Canada.

The plan's biggest perk, however, is probably its two-year upgrade promotion. Wireless carriers traditionally offer the best deals to new customers, but T-Mobile said Go5G Plus will offer existing customers the same promotions, including the option of getting a new phone every two years.

T-Mobile goes after AT&T

T-Mobile is also offering a limited-time promotion, called Easy Unlock, to lure customers from rival AT&T, allowing customers to trade in eligible phones even if they're locked. And if switchers still owe AT&T money when they cancel, T-Mobile will pay up to $650 via a prepaid Mastercard to offset the cost.

Unhappy switchers who decide to leave T-Mobile within the first 30 days will get $50 back per voice line to help with the cost of their bill.

Essentials plan price drop

For a limited time, T-Mobile is reducing prices on its Essentials plan. The new Essentials Savings option reduces the rate of a single line to $50 a month from the cost of $60.

Everything To Know About T-Mobile's Family Plans Before You Sign Up

T -Mobile has a lot to offer for new and existing customers as America's most awarded 5G network. It also offers some of the most affordable family plans on the market, with a range of added perks and benefits. With so many plans available, however, it can be hard to decide which plan is best suited for your family.

There are many reasons why now is a good time to consider joining the mobile giant. T-Mobile has recently enhanced its 5G data coverage in certain towns with the introduction of its Ultra Capacity 5G technology. There are also several discounts and perks available in T-Mobile's Magenta plan , among other plans with three or more lines.

Every family plan offered by T-Mobile provides different benefits, from high-speed data usage to varying mobile hotspot speeds. With many families requiring top data speeds for mobile gaming, streaming, and everything in between, it's important to choose a plan that fits your requirements and budget. Here's everything to know about T-Mobile's Family Plan offerings before you sign up.

Save Money With T-Mobile's Essentials

T-Mobile's Essentials is a great budget-friendly option for cutting costs on your family's phone bills. The Essentials plan, priced at $90 for three phone lines (excluding taxes and fees) offers everything you need keep your family connected, including unlimited talk, text, and 4G and 5G LTE data. New T-Mobile customers can also get a 3rd line free of charge.

Despite this being the cheapest option, it does come with a few limitations. Mobile hotspot speeds are limited to 3G (or 2G if you're in Mexico or Canada). You may also experience lower speeds if using more than 50GB of data per month. T-Mobile offers "premium data" allotments per billing cycle, which offers consistent data speeds even under congestion. T-Mobile Essentials customers can enjoy 50GB of premium data per billing cycle.

It's important to note this plan doesn't offer any of T-Mobile's add-on services such as Scam Shield or T-Mobile Family Mode. However, you can add an extra line for an additional $10 per month with T-Mobile's Essentials 4 Line Offer. Overall, T-Mobile's Essentials Plan is a low-cost option that's one of the cheapest family plans on the market.

Magenta Family Plan Offers More Data With Extra Perks

If 50GB of high-speed data isn't enough for your family, you can double it in T-Mobile's Magenta plan. The plan comes with the same unlimited text, talk, and data as the Essentials Plan, but Magenta customers can enjoy 100GB of premium data to stream and watch content uninterrupted.

The Magenta plan costs $140 per month for 3 lines or $160 for 4 lines. If 100GB of high-speed data isn't enough, users can enjoy unlimited premium data with Magenta MAX for $170 per month (for 3 lines) or $200 per month (for 4 lines). This plan also offers 40GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data if you're using any of your devices as a hotspot. Unlike T-Mobile Essentials, taxes are included in these plans.

The Magenta plan also offers many entertainment perks, with an included Netflix Standard subscription and six months of Apple TV+ for free. For families that demand fast data speeds, the Magenta plan is a strong choice.

You Can Also Track Children's Screen Time On Magenta

One thing that makes T-Mobile's Magenta plan family-friendly is Family Allowances. The add-on, free of charge for Magenta customers, allows you to monitor your children's mobile usage and enable schedules of when they can use their devices. You can manage Family Allowances at any time by logging into your T-Mobile account online . By default, the parent line is the primary account holder, which can manage schedules and set usage limits on all lines.

To make sure homework gets done, you can choose to limit talk time and texts on certain phone lines. Plus, with "Always Allowed" numbers, you can make sure that your child always has access to important contacts during restricted periods. Another parental control is the Current Allowance tool, which lets you set limits for game and app purchases on the Play Store or App Store.

If you want to keep track of your children when they're not at home, T-Mobile offers the FamilyWhere app to primary account holders for an extra $10 per month. The app works similarly to Samsung's Find My Mobile app , except it doesn't rely on internet connectivity — it instead uses data from the T-Mobile network. The FamilyWhere app is currently available to Android users only.
