Seat was ok but not very comfortable when lying down. Toilets were shared with premium economy. There should have been toilets for upper class only. People from premium economy were coming in to use the bar. Nowhere near as good as emirates
Beware, for those who LOVE to look out of the window, the window is not aligned to the seat. My partner who sat next to me in the middle seat had a better window view! You have to lean forward to see outside. Apart from the window, I enjoyed this seat. Good leg space, not too close to the toilets and well catered for. Good atmosphere, not too noisy very good balance unlike party/rowdiness at the back of the plane lol.
First time flyer so let's go in style.. Flew in the bubble on a premium ticket. Excellent no faults at all and Adie and Andrea were my cabin crew team and did an excellent job.. If you get chance fly the bubble premium.. The 747 400 jumbo was called Ruby Tuesday and it was a virgin holiday package to see the new year in in Times Sq New York
First time on Virgin Atlantic excellent service will definitely fly with you again keep the great service excellent standards thank you
Chose to fly this route on 747 (Ruby Tuesday) for nostalgic reasons as opposed to a newer aircraft out of Heathrow but regretted the decision pretty quickly. Delta/Virgin still using the small Escape Plus lounge at MAN so you lose out on the Virgin Clubhouse experience or will until at least Spring 2020 when I believe the new Delta/Virgin clubhouse will open at Ringway. 747 Cabin is looking and feeling old although it was nice to be one of only 14 Upper Class passengers on board. My seat had an issue with reclining smoothly but it was not a big enough issue to complain about. Steward told me that they may not retire the 747s next year as planned following earlier reprieve due to extra passenger volume caused by collapse of Thomas Cook. If they are kept in service they should be refurbed IMHO. Received the usual fantastic service from Virgin cabin crew but that was offset by the absence of access to free Gogo WiFi via T-Mobile phone plan. Apparently only available on newer aircraft. Last time on this aircraft for me I think unless they are modernized.
Although all the premium economy seats are comfortable and the service excelent. if you are tall (anything above 6ft) and the person infront reclines the seat. 2 things will happen. Your knees will likely get squashed and the enterainment system becomes unuseable. The poor viewing angle of the screen means that although it tilts in the seat back, after the seat is reclined it doesnt tilt enough to be anything other than a dark mess.
Sat here with my family on Row 37 DEFG and despite reading negative comments, this seat row is excellent choice.Seat reclines back 6-8 inches and because of bulkhead behind , you’re not disturbing fellow passengers. Also because of bulkhead, nobody is pressing on tv screen behind you searching for movies/music etc.
The service on the flight could not be faulted, the seats however.... We paid for the Economy Delight for extra leg room which was great, however, the seats were really narrow. I was sat in the middle of a row of 3 and my partner is 6ft and sat by the window and then a large american guy sat next to me. I spent the whole flight uncomfortable and struggled to eat the meals as I couldn't put my arms at my side. I also couldn't sit straight on as there was so little room i had to sit slightly side on. I was really disappointed as I have had more room on a Jet2 Short haul.
The good: You have unlimited leg room for your right leg. The bad. There is an entertainment box underneath the in front of you that does not allow a carry on bag to be stowed. Overall Virgin offers friendly service, plenty to watch, and tasty meals. The meal and beverage portions seemed small. IE 5 ounce cups. The hot meal portion was smaller than my hand. A roll or a salad. The pudding was about 2 ounces worth. I was impressed by the frequent beverage runs but disappointed there was no ice cream offered mid-flight. Seat comfort and leg room was ok for an economy seat
We had premium ecomomy 24A and 24C. Both very good seats as there is no issue with reclining as there is a gap between you and economy with an emergency exit. Very good seat. But getting off takes slightly longer
For couples 6A and 6K are the best seats - you are across from each other but it is more difficult to talk to if you are on the same side. Seating looks a little dated now but service was very good. unfortunately the IFE didn't work in Upper on that flight - no sound - so eventually just before dinner service those of us who asked were given small IPADs but they have a very limited selection -- hence the poor review for that section. However as ever the crew were lovely.
Service was acceptable , no complaints , however food choices not good , staff were friendly and helpful; however the plane was not very well cleaned .
Premium brilliant but the plane tinkerbell was out of date
A great location next to the window. There is a shelf and storage compartment between the seat and window allowing you to store extra stuff. It also allowed me to spread out with extra items when the fold-down tray in front became full. Overall I would always choose a window seat upstairs just for the extra space it affords.
The location was fantastic. The seat fully reclined and there was no worry about annoying anyone behind, as it was the last row. I was worried about noise or draughts up from the stairs, but these proven to be unfounded. Sitting upstairs was a great choice and it felt more premium with the attentive stewards.
The leg room is really poor due to the location of the main door. It does provide more space between your knee and a normal seat but stretching legs is difficult.
Tinker bell on the way out which I understand will be decommissioned this October it was dated especially the entertainment system Way back was a Newer plane hot lips this was far better
I've been traveling for decades, I don't remember ever sitting at a noisiest seat. There was a deafening noise from some sort of ventilation right above me, so loud I could not hear the engines over it! The stewardesses could not understand what I was telling them, although I managed to get them to understand I needed earplugs and they brought me some. I have no idea if there was something wrong or that seat is like that - it was a summer trip so the ventilation was probably at maximum. If I moved to the seat next to me the noise died down significantly...
I flew to and from Orlando in this seat. The toilets were a real issue for me as we were only 3 rows away from them and people queued along the aisle for most of the flight. Because we were in Premium class I felt like an exhibit with people coming from economy to see what it was like in premium. If you are going premium go downstairs. On the flight back the person in front of me fully reclined during take off and refused to put his seat up for the whole flight. This meant no leg room and it was nearly impossible without some serious gymnastics to get out of the seat. My friend on the window seat was stuck there for the entire flight. Not value for money in my opinion. Save your money for your hols.
While flying from india, there must be an option for bollywood movies/music. Otherwise it is very boring in such a long duration flight. Moreover the entertainment systems are outdated n needs to be replaced.

The best Virgin Atlantic economy seats

Flying in economy doesn't have to be a dreadful experience. But part of making it more manageable is by making sure you're sat in the best seat in the cabin. And if you're flying with Virgin Atlantic, there are some clear winners.
To make things complicated, Virgin has three fare types in economy. Of the three types, Economy Delight is the most expensive (starting at around $226 more than a regular Economy Light fare), and it's the only fare that includes any extra legroom seats. So, to make it fair, we'll focus on the best seats for Economy Light and Classic passengers, as this is the most common.

Which aircraft offer economy seats?
- 10 Airbus A330-300s
- 4 Airbus A330-200s
- 4 Airbus A350-1000s
- 17 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners
Virgin doesn't operate any routes long enough to warrant an all premium cabin aircraft like Singapore Airlines' A350-900ULR. Each of its aircraft has an economy cabin with anywhere from 185 to 375 seats.
Best seating strategy for economy across all long-haul Virgin Atlantic aircraft
Top picks: Without a doubt, the best economy seats of all of Virgin's aircraft used to be in the bubble of the 747 before she went into early retirement due to the coronavirus pandemic .
Related: These are the last Boeing 747s you can fly in the world
If you're flying Virgin soon, you're more likely to be flying on an A350 or a Dreamliner to or from Heathrow (LHR). Economy cabins vary, and it's hard to say really which is best out of the other jets because there are so many variables and it may fall to personal preference. That said, the general rule is pick the seats in the exit row or the front of the cabin.
Related: How to pick your perfect airplane seat
Instead of giving our suggestion of the best aircraft for flying economy, we're going to focus on the best seat on each of Virgin's long-haul aircraft instead. All of our top suggestions below are based on a solo traveler.
Best economy seats on a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 787 Dreamliner
Top picks: 53A, 53K
The economy cabin on the Dreamliner is split into a smaller front cabin and a larger rear cabin of mainly 3-3-3 configuration. While there are some regular seats for passengers with Economy Light and Economy Classic tickets, these are D, F and G in the center of the cabin. However, row 43 at the front row is a bulkhead, but it's also where the bassinet is fitted. If you want to be sure to get as much legroom as possible, you're best off sitting in the larger, main rear cabin in row 53, which is also an exit row. The window seats in this cabin are also behind the wing, meaning your views will be less disrupted than in the forward economy cabin with the Economy Delight seats.
Related reading: Why pilots love flying the 787

Keep in mind that there is no under-seat storage in this row, and the IFE screen folds up from underneath the seat rather than in front of you. All things considered, this seat is more spacious than the front row of the Economy Delight seats. Rather than paying the excess, it might just be worth paying for an Economy Classic ticket (if you need a bag) or just an Economy Light fare and setting an alert using ExpertFlyer to let you know when seats in row 53 are released. While that's not a fail-safe plan to get extra legroom for cheap, it might just save you $130 or so.

Best economy seats on a Virgin Atlantic Airbus A330-300
Top picks: 40A and 40K
At 185 seats, the A330-300 has the fewest seats in economy compared to other Virgin aircraft. The slightly more compact 2-4-2 configuration makes avoiding the middle section of four seats in the middle of the cabin even more important than usual.
Quite the opposite to the Dreamliner, the best regular economy seats on the Airbus A330-300 are actually in the forward, smaller economy cabin as the Economy Delight seats are situated further back. This means a couple of things: Row 40, the front row at the bulkhead, while it features the most legroom, the views from the windows are disrupted by the wings, and the bassinets are situated in this row. However, compared to the other options, this would still be my top pick for economy on the A330-300.

If good views from the window take priority for you, then one of the window seats in the main cabin from row 57 might be better.
Related: How to read an aircraft seat map
Service on this aircraft is likely to start from both the front and back of the cabin, meaning that if you're in the middle of the two cabins then you're likely to have to wait the longest for your food.

Best economy seats on a Virgin Atlantic Airbus A330-200
Top picks: 21A, 21K, 36A, 36K.
Economy on this aircraft has a rather unique layout compared to other similar models in the airline's fleet. Its 212 seats are in the same 2-4-2 config as its bigger brother the A330-300, but the Economy Delight seats with larger pitch are in the forward economy cabin, similar to on the Dreamliner. But the A330-200 comes into its own again as the front row of the forward cabin has been left as regular economy seats, meaning that passengers with Economy Light or Classic tickets can still choose to sit in the front row of the cabin.
Related: The evolution of airline seating
The slight non-conformity to this aircraft's layout is because Virgin bought them from the now-defunct Air Berlin .
That said, my top picks for this cabin would be 21A and 21K because they're closest to the front of the cabin, usually meaning quicker service, and they have the most legroom of all the regular economy seats -- the only downside is that the seats are on the wing, meaning that views are less than perfect. Row 36 also has extra legroom, as it's situated in the exit row at the start of the rear economy cabin, so 36A and 36K would be a close second place. The view from the window is an improvement to row 21, but the main downside to these seats is that they are right in the middle of the forward and rear galleys, meaning that passengers in this row are likely to wait the longest to be served food and drinks.

Best economy seats on a Virgin Atlantic Airbus A350-1000
Top picks: 45A and 45K
The second-most densely packed economy cabin in Virgin's fleet belongs to the brand new A350-1000 with a total of 235 seats, second only to the jumbo. You can watch our comparison of all three cabins on the Virgin A350 here .
The airline opted for a more compact 3-3-3 configuration. This means that there nine seats per row in comparison to the eight per row on the A330 -300 and -200s, meaning you'll have one extra person to disturb or climb over if you need to leave your window seat.

The good news is that the regular economy seats start right at the front of the economy cabin, with Economy Delight situated further back after the exit row in the middle of the cabin. This means that you can choose to sit in the best seats in the house -- 45A and 45K.
The Upper and Premium cabins on the A350 stretch as far as after the wings, so no matter which economy row you sit in on the A350, the window seats will always have undisrupted views.

Bottom line
Regardless of where you sit, you should have a perfectly comfortable ride onboard Virgin's aircraft. However, you can always make it better. Hopefully, this guide will help you decide, based on your personal preferences, where the best seat for you would be.

Seat map Boeing 747-400 “Virgin Atlantic”. Best seats in the plane
Virgin Atlantic operates two versions of Boeing 747-400.
First cabin version of the Boeing 747-400 (744) LGW

First version of Boeing 747-400 is a two-decked airplane that consists of 455 seats of three classes.
The lower deck includes the seats of all three classes.
The upper class may accommodate 14 passengers in 7 rows per 2 flat bed seats in each. For passengers who are traveling with a companion will be better the seats of the 6th row as they are located to each other closer than other seats of the upper class.
Close location to the bat nay cause some discomfort to passengers of the seats of the 11-12th rows .
Behind the exit row 6 rows of premium economy class seats are located. Most of them have 2-4-2 configuration. There are 46 seats here. Passengers of the seats of the 14th row will take advantage of extra space for their legs. Other passengers tend to congregate in this area while waiting to use lavatories causing discomfort to passengers of these seats. Lack of floor storage during take-off and landing is another disadvantage of these seats.
Proximity of the lavatories may represent a problem to passengers of the seats 18GHK and 19G . Also the seats 18HK are less reclining than standard as they are located in the last row of the cabin.
Economy class seats of the lower deck are located in three sections.
First section consists of 13 rows of seats. Passengers of the seats of the 25th row will feel comfortable thanks to extra legroom due to exit row located in front. However, these seats are narrower than standard and are located close to the galley, the noise from which may cause discomfort to passengers of these seats.
Proximity of the lavatory will also cause discomfort to passengers of the seats C and H of the rows 26-29 .
Thanks to the bulkhead position the seats 30DEFG offer extra legroom. Among disadvantages of these seats: reduced width of the seats as the tray tables are built-in the armrests making them immovable and proximity of the galley.
The seats 33A and 33K have misaligned windows.
Due to the exit row located behind, the seats of the 37th row are less reclining. Close location of the lavatory is another disadvantage of these seats.
The second section of economy class includes 10 rows of seats.
Passengers tend to gather in the area of the seats of the 38th row while waiting to use lavatories. As the tray tables are in the armrests the width of these seats is reduced. Due to exit row located in front of these seats, passengers of these seats will feel comfortable thanks to extra space for their legs. However, the exit doors may protrude inside slightly reducing the legroom space of the seats 38A and 38K .
Virgin Atlantic designates the seats ABC and HJK of the rows 39-43 as preferred seats to reserve which an extra fee should be paid. These seats have an additional 3 inches of the pitch. Close location of the lavatories will cause inconvenience to passengers of the seats 39C, 39H and 40DEFG . The seats 40DEFG offer extra legroom but are narrower than standard.
Noise that is coming from the galleys may represent a problem for passengers of the seats 46C, 46DEFG, 46H and for passengers of the 47th row . Limited recline is another disadvantage of the seats 46DEFG, 47ABC and 47HJK .
Behind another exit row the third section of economy class seats is located. The seats 49BC and 49HJ have extra legroom thanks to the exit row located in front. However, proximity of the galley and reduced width of these seats may cause discomfort to passengers of all seats of the 49th row . The exit doors slightly reduces the legroom of the seats 49A and 49K .
Proximity of the galley is also a disadvantage of the C and H seats of the rows 50-52 and of the seats 53DEFG . Thanks to the bulkhead position the seats 53DEFG have extra legroom. The tray tables of these seats are in the armrests making them immovable and reducing the width of these seats.
The seat 60K is missing window.
For passengers traveling with companion will be ideal the seats AC and HK of the rows 64-64 .
Due to missing windows seats, the seats 64A and 64K have some extra space. These seats and the seats 64C, 64H are less reclining.
Close location of the lavatories may be bothersome for passengers of the seats 65D and 65G and of the seats of the last 66th row . Limited recline of the seats 66DEFG makes these seats bad seats.

Premium Economy class includes 5 rows of seats that have 2-2 configuration. All these seats are standard. Only the seats of the 20th row have the following disadvantages: close location of the lavatory and reduced width as the tray tables are built-in the armrests making them immovable.
Behind the exit row 6 rows of economy class seats are located. 5 rows of seats have 3-3 configuration and the last row consists of three seats. The seats of the 75th row are considered good seats as they have extra legroom thanks to the exit row located in front. However these seats are a little narrower than standard as the tray tables are TVs are in the armrests.
Passengers of the seats 79ABC, 79H and 80HJK may have a more private feel. Proximity of the stair and limited recline are the main disadvantages of these seats.
Second cabin version of the Boeing 747-400 (744) LHR
This version of Boeing 747-400 is the most common in Virgin Atlantic.
Usefull information about “Virgin Atlantic”

This airplane may transport 367 passengers in three classes.
The Upper Class of the lower deck consists of 34 flat bed seats located in two sections.
First section includes 7 rows of seats that have 1-1 configuration. Passengers of the seats 12A and 12K will enjoy wonderful view out the window and take advantage of some extra storage space. These seats as well the seats 14A and 14K are perfect for passengers traveling with a partner as these seats are located closer to which other than other seats of this section. The seats 12A, 12K and 14A, 14K have the same disadvantage such as lack of overhead storage bin.
Galley and lavatories located behind may cause discomfort to passengers of the seats 19A and 19K .
The second section of the upper class has 6 rows of seats: 4 of them have 1-2-1 configuration and 2 rows contain 2 seats each. The noise coming from the galleys and lavatories may be bothersome for passengers of the seats of the 20th row .
Close location to the bar will cause inconvenience to passengers of the seats 24A, 24K and 25A, 25K .
Premium economy class has 62 standard seats. The seat 28A has some extra legroom that is slightly reduced by exit door that protrudes inside. Passengers of the seats 28C and 29HK will take advantage of extra legroom. Both seats of the 28th row as well as the seats 29HK have the following disadvantages: proximity of the galley, reduced width and also passengers can get cold during the flight by the exits.
All C seats of the premium economy class have less under seat storage space and legroom as entertainment equipment is stored here. Noise that is coming from the galley may be bothersome for passengers of the seats 29C, 30C, 30H, 31C, 31H and for passengers of the seats 32DEFG .
The seats 32DEFG offer extra legroom. However, these seats are narrower than standard as the tray tables are built-in the armrests making them immovable.
Missing windows make the seats 34A and 34K bad seats.
Proximity of the lavatory is the main disadvantage of the seats of the 37th row .
Economy class of the upper deck consists of 2 sections. First section includes 10 rows of seats. Passengers of the seats of the 39th row will feel comfortable thanks to extra legroom provided by exit row located in front. Other passengers tend to gather in this area while waiting to visit lavatories and causing discomfort to passengers of these seats. Tray tables in the armrests of these seats reduce their width. The same disadvantages apply to the seats 40DEFG . Also these seats have no floor storage during take-off and landing. Passengers with babies are often seated on these seats as they have bassinet locations.
Presence of entertainment equipment under all CDGH seats of the economy class restricts legroom and storage space of these seats.
To reserve the seats ABC, HJK of the rows 40-43 an extra fee should be paid. Close location to the lavatory may be bothersome for passengers of the seats 40C and 40H .
Proximity of the galley may represent inconvenience to passengers of the seats 46DEFG, 47C, 47H and for passengers of the seats of 48th row . Limited recline is another disadvantage of 46DEFG, 48ABC and 48HJK .
All seats of the 48th row have limited legroom and storage space because of entertainment equipment stored under these seats.
Behind the exit row the second section of economy class seats is located. The seats 49BC and 49HJ are located behind the exit row offering extra space for passengers’ legs. Close location of the galley and reduced width of the seats of the 49th row are the main disadvantages. Because of the exit door protrusion the legroom of the seats 49A and 49K is limited.
Noise from the galley may also be bothersome for passengers of the CH seats of the rows 50-53 .
Passengers traveling with babies are often seated on the seats 54DEFG as they have bassinet location. These seats are considered good seats as they have extra legroom thanks to the bulkhead position. However these seats have no floor storage during take-off and landing and their width is reduced as the tray tables are in the armrests making them immovable.
For passengers traveling with a companion will be ideal seats AC and HK of the rows 61-64 . A and K seats of these rows have some extra space due to missing window seats.
Other passengers tend to congregate in the tail of the airplane in order to visit lavatories thus causing discomfort to passengers of the seats 64AC, 64HK, 65D, 65G and 66DEFG . Also the seats 64AC, 64HJ and 66DEFG are less reclining than standard.

The upper deck has the seats of two classes: the upper class and economy.
There are 10 seats of the upper class here located in 5 rows per 2 seats in each. The only disadvantage of these seats is small overhead bins and proximity of the lavatories to the seats 1A and 1K . Passengers prefer the upper deck as it is less crowded and as a result more quiet and has better service.
Economy class has 6 seats with totally 33 seats. The best seats here are the seats of the 75th row . Thanks to the exit row located in front these seats have extra legroom. But the width of these seats is reduced.
The seats 79ABC are less reclining than standard and located close to the stairs.
Proximity of the lavatory and stairs may also represent problem to passengers of the seats 79H and 80HJK . In addition the seats 80HJK have limited recline.

Steven Kingsley. 3 Helpful votes. Seat. 7A. From. Manchester - Manchester (MAN) To. Atlanta, GA - Hartsfield-jackson Atlanta International (ATL) Chose to fly this route on 747 (Ruby Tuesday) for nostalgic reasons as opposed to a newer aircraft out of Heathrow but regretted the decision pretty quickly.
