You can supplement your income by working while studying in France, regardless of the level of education you are undertaking and regardless of your nationality. All students have the right to work on or off campus. A few rules to be aware of.

Every foreign student has the right to work in France

All foreign students have the right to work while studying in France.  This right applies to all students in France. Students who are not European Union nationals must have a  student resident permit

French law allows foreign students to work up to 964 hours per year, or the equivalent of 60% of the maximum working hours permitted .  (50% for Algerian students whose status remains defined by the Franco-Algerian Agreement of December 27, 1968). The income received from such work is a bonus.

When working in France, whether a student or not , a minimum wage is guaranteed by law. This statutory minimum wage is commonly called the Smic (salaire minimum interprofessionnel de croissance or guaranteed minimum wage ) . As of January 1, 2024, this minimum wage is €11.65 . This salary is gross; mandatory social security contributions have to be deducted (around 20%) to determine actual earnings (i.e. €9.22/hour) .   A student working 10 hours a week at minimum wage will earn approximately €92 net.

The autorisation provisoire de travail (APT) or provisional work permit is no longer required to work while studying , provided no more than 964 hours per year are worked (different rules apply for Algerian students).

Studying and working at university

In France, foreign students are also permitted to work at their host institution or university. These student jobs generally last twelve months, from September 1st to August 31st. Welcoming students at the start of the school year, tutoring, cultural or sporting events, support for students with disabilities, etc. These types of jobs contribute to the sense of community and enhance life at the university.

To promote academic success and the vocational integration of students, students jobs at the university are scheduled around class times and study times. For the same reason, students working at French universities are not permitted to work more than 670 hours between September 1st and June 30th and not more than 300 hours between July 1st and August 31st.

Interships while studying

Some degree programs require a student to complete an internship. French and foreign students are subject to the same rules:

  • The internship requires an agreement (signed between the institution and the structure hosting the student);
  • If the internship lasts more than two months, the student must be paid compensation of €650 per month (January 1, 2024).
  • Internships completed as part of a degree course do not count towards the 964 hours of permitted work per year.

Apprenticeships and professional training contracts

An apprenticeship contract is an employment contract of limited or indefinite duration between an employee and an employer. An apprenticeship allows practitioners of a trade or profession (the apprentice) to gain on-the-job training under a journeyperson/employer while studying (learn more about apprenticeship contracts) .

Apprenticeships and professional training contracts , previously only accessible to international students who had completed a year of training in France , are now open to first-year students enrolled in a master's (recognized by the State) or in one of the training programs approved by the Conférence des Grandes Écoles and included in this list . All other training programs that include an apprenticeship or professional training contracts are not open to first-year students.

For countries implementing the "Etudes en France" procedure , applications for apprenticeships are made on this platform prior to the visa application.

If the number of hours provided for in the contract exceeds 964 hours per year for an international student from a non-EU country, the student's employer must, on the student's arrival in France, apply for a temporary work permit on the Ministry of the Interior website .

For Algerian students, the employer must apply for a provisional work permit (APT) regardless of the number of hours worked.

Student work contract during school holidays

Last update 07.02.2024

School holidays provide a good opportunity for pupils and students to discover the real working world. For a maximum of 2 months a year , they can acquire their first professional experience of paid work. For employers, hiring pupils/students offers an opportunity to replace staff on holiday.

Employers wishing to recruit a pupil or student must conclude a work contract either before or on the first day of employment of the pupil/student.

This is a specific contract . It is not an employment contract.

If you are a pupil or student, you can currently apply for a seasonal job in the tourism sector via the online procedure 'Demande de job étudiant dans le domaine du tourisme 2024' on MyGuichet.lu (see 'Online services and forms'). This is a procedure with authentication that requires a LuxTrust product or an electronic identity card ( eID ). This recruitment campaign is limited in time.

Who is concerned?

The following are concerned by the pupil/student work contract during school holidays:

  • the employer who intends to hire a student or pupil for paid employment during school holidays;
  • is between 15 and 26 years old (the pupil/student must not have turned 27);
  • is enrolled in a teaching establishment in Luxembourg or abroad and attends a regular full-time study cycle; or
  • whose school registration has ended less than 4 months ago.

How to proceed

Recruitment in the tourism sector;, functioning of a student work contract.

During the same calendar year (from 1 January to 31 December), a pupil/student can only be hired for a maximum period of 2 months or 346 hours during the school holidays .

An employer who decides to recruit a pupil or student during the school holidays must draw up a work contract.

Leave and legal holidays

Students and pupils covered by this type of contract benefit from the same working conditions as the employees of the business.

However, they are not entitled to 26 days paid annual leave but may benefit from unpaid extraordinary leave which must be granted by the employer.

In principle, the student's/pupil's sick days are not paid.

Underage pupils/students working during school holidays are allowed to work on Sundays and/or public holidays.

Form of the work contract

The work contract must be drawn up:

  • in writing ;
  • for each individual pupil/student;
  • at the latest on the first day of employment of the pupil or student;
  • in 3 copies , one of which is kept by the employer and the second is given to the pupil or student.

In the absence of a written contract or if the contract was drawn up late, the student work contract automatically becomes a permanent work contract .

Content of the work contract

Student contracts must contain the following information:

  • first and last name(s), date of birth and home address of the pupil or student (note that in the event of a subsequent change of address, the student or pupil must notify their employer);
  • name and address of the employer;
  • the start and end dates of the contract (this information must be in the following format: dd/mm/yyyy );
  • the place of work;
  • nature of the work to be carried out (which need not necessarily be in line with the pupil's/student's studies);
  • daily and weekly working hours ;
  • salary payment procedures;
  • the place where the pupil/student is staying if the employer has agreed to provide accommodation.

Note that the agreed remuneration cannot be less than 80 % of the applicable social minimum wage , adjusted to the pupil's or student's age, where applicable. The current minimum wage amounts (hourly and monthly) are listed in our specific information page in the section 'Minimum and maximum limits subject to contributions'.

Transmission of student contracts

Employers must send the third copy to the Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (ITM) together with a copy of the identity card of the pupil or student concerned, within 7 days following the first day of employment. The documents should be sent by standard mail. There is no specific form to be used.

The employment contract can also be sent to the ITM electronically via the online procedure on the My Guichet.lu platform (see 'Online services and forms').

Social contributions

The employer must affiliate the student with the Joint Social Security Centre ( Centre commun de la sécurité sociale - CCSS).

The pupil/student is affiliated solely for accident insurance purposes. The employer only pays for accident insurance and does not have to cover for health and pension insurance.

Remuneration and withholding tax

At the employer's request, the salary paid to pupils/students during school holidays is tax exempt , provided the hourly wage does not exceed EUR 16 . In this case, the pupil/student does not have to hand in a tax card to the employer.

The employer must send an application for exemption from withholding tax concerning the student's/pupil's remuneration to the competent RTS tax office which depends on the employer's registered business address. The application must be submitted on plain paper together with the following information about the pupil/student:

  • their surname(s) and first name(s) ;
  • their national identification number or failing this, the date of birth;
  • their address ;
  • the start and end dates of the contract;
  • the amount of the monthly or daily remuneration .

Employers are also required to provide a copy of the pupil's/student's school certificate .

If the salary exceeds EUR 16 per hour , the remuneration paid is subject to withholding tax. In this case the pupil or student must provide the employer with a tax card.

Student Employment

Federal work-study program.

The Federal Undergraduate Work-Study Program provides hourly-wage, part-time jobs for students with financial need. Due to limited Federal funds, student employment is based on a first come, first serve basis. Interested students must complete the FAFSA and indicate that they are interested in Federal Work Study and have eligibility. As Federal Work Study is awarded, deadlines will be placed on completing the employment paperwork prior to the beginning of employment.

Visit StudentAid.gov for More FWS Information

Non-Federal Student Employment Program

Student Employment positions are funded either by Federal Work Study or Institutional Funds. If you are not awarded Federal Work Study, there are limited job opportunities available on campus that do not require the Federal Work Study award.  Be sure to list all of your skills and/or certifications in your cover letter and resume and watch the job postings for available positions.

Student Employment

Student Employment plays an important role in Bentley's day-to-day operations. Many departments depend on student employees as a source of skilled labor, while students gain meaningful work experience and earn money to help defray educational expenses.

In order to provide an efficient and effective service, the Bentley Student Employment Office (SEO), manages an employment system that provides fair access to jobs, equitable pay scales and departmental support.

The SEO is responsible for administering the on-campus work programs: Federal Work Study and Bentley Work Program, as well as providing a resource for off-campus job placement. We do our best to help eligible students apply for jobs through Workday , assist departments in recruiting students, monitor work awards and student employee records.

All Employment verification requests should be submitted via fax along with a copy of the signed release form.  It takes anywhere from 48-72 hours for your request to be processed and faxed back.

The Student Employment Office is located in the Rauch Administration Building, Room 104.

On t'écoute.

Adeline, apprentie analyste strategic pricing

Faudra juste faire attention qu'ils soient toujours bien visibles,

Our Campus Reps Program

Selected from among our Cast Members and specially trained for this mission, our Campus Reps embody our professions. They meet with middle school, high school and university students, and answer their questions by presenting our professions and career possibilities, motivating them to join us…. Each year, they form pairs to visit schools and present, through their personal and shared experiences, the many facets of our professional universe.

Our Equal Opportunity at Schools Initiatives

Equal opportunity is a keystone of our company. That’s why Disneyland Paris supports middle school and high school students with disabilities and helps them to explore our job opportunities through open days or 1- or 2-week ‘discovery’ placements. We also help them gain insight into the working world through workshops on CV writing or preparing for a job interview. Training sessions, coaching and work placements also enable us to provide job search support to these students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you motivated to become a Cast Member? Yes, but… you still have some questions about recruitment criteria, housing, arrival conditions, onboarding, compensation or health insurance? You are in the right place: find answers to your questions in our FAQ’s.

What offers and services are available to me as a Student Cast Member?

As a student Cast Member, you are eligible for the same offers and services as all Cast Members: 80% of commuting costs reimbursed, transportation expenses reimbursed for Cast Members living outside of the Île-de-France region (one round-trip, price ceiling applies), low-rent temporary housing, 17 company restaurants in which part of the meal cost is covered by Disneyland Paris, complementary access to parks for you and your family (after working 30 days on a 60-day minimum contract), 25% reduction in Disneyland® Paris boutiques and restaurants. What housing options are available for students?

Priority for our Cast Member housing goes to those who live outside the Île-de-France region. All our housing is subject to availability and certain eligibility conditions.

Do you have a 28-day or longer internship contract? If you live outside the Île-de-France region, we can offer you – under certain conditions –furnished, equipped housing (individual or with a roommate) in one of our Disney residences. Accommodation fee will be paid by the company for the duration of your internship.

Do you have an 8-month or longer temporary (CDD) contract, a permanent (CDI) contract, an apprenticeship or vocational training contract? If you live outside the Île-de-France region, you can be housed in one of our 6 temporary partner residences, located near our parks, for a maximum of two years. This housing consists of affordable, furnished and equipped individual studios. The monthly accommodation fee, including charges, is a maximum of 610 euros and these residences are eligible for the APL (state housing subsidy). Apprentices and students with vocational training contracts can benefit, in addition to the APL, from the “MobiliJeune” measure. The residence can provide assistance with administrative procedures and also help find other housing at the end of the 2-year period.

Do you have a temporary (CDD) contract for less than eight months? If you live outside the Île-de-France region, you can either be housed in one of our Disney residences (individual or with a roommate) or in an off-site residential hotel (two people per unit) for the duration of your contract. All the apartments are furnished and equipped, affordable and near our parks. Your place of residence will be communicated to you a few days before your arrival.

What is the arrival procedure for Disneyland Paris housing?

Have you been recruited and are eligible for housing? Welcome! For all questions concerning access and moving into the housing units, contact [email protected]. When your housing assignment has been confirmed, our teams will send you all the details, including: possible residences, rent and down payment, and date and time of arrival. A few days before your arrival, you will receive an email with the address of the assigned residence and access information. Please note: our team offices are closed on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. If your contract begins on a Monday, your arrival date will be the preceding Friday.

What can I expect on my first day at Disneyland Paris?

All our Cast Members join an orientation program when they arrive at Disneyland Paris. You will learn about Disney values, history and culture, meet your team and become familiar with your workplace and responsibilities. For certain jobs in food & beverage, boutiques and the parks, and depending on your contract, you will also be given job-specific training. For more information about onboarding at Disneyland Paris, go to the “About Us” page.

What health coverage will I have?

If this is your first job, you will automatically be affiliated with the Régime Général de la Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (French social security). You will be attributed a temporary Social Security number for use during your application process. Within one month after your start date, you will receive a letter at home from the social security office to complete your application. Your Carte Vitale (healthcare ID card) with your definitive Social Security number will be sent to you once your application has been validated.

If you are a European Union resident, a birth certificate in the official European format is required to be eligible for healthcare benefits in France. This certificate is available at the Town Hall of your place of birth or living. If you do not live in France, contact your home country’s national health service to find out the reimbursement procedure if you require healthcare during your first month of work in France.

How am I paid at the end of the month?

At the end of each month, Disneyland Paris will deposit your salary directly into your bank account, either in France or abroad. This means you will need to give your banking details to the Personnel Department of your division. If you want to open a bank account in France, we can help. Just ask us when you sign your contract.
