Features on a planner app

Features to look for when choosing a good planner for Mac

Overall usability and interface.

One of the strongest features to look for when choosing a planner app is usability. The app should have a clean and easy-to-use user interface that is intuitive and straightforward to help users quickly add, edit, and view appointments, dos, reminders, and notes without unnecessary complexity.

Integrations

Consider apps that can integrate seamlessly with other productivity tools and apps you already use daily. When we talk about apps for Mac, look for those that have better integrations with the iOS system. This can help you streamline your workflows, stay organized, and avoid switching between multiple apps while adding tasks to your planner.

Syncing across devices

As mentioned before, integrations are very important, especially for Mac users, so ensure the app you choose allows you to sync your schedule and tasks seamlessly across your Mac, iPhone, iPad, and other devices. This ensures you always have access to your information, regardless of your device.

Task management capabilities

A good planner app should be able to integrate task management features, such as the ability to categorize tasks into a different project, assign due dates and priorities, and enable you to create, access, and manage lists, set reminders, and track your progress. It is a strong feature to help you stay on top of your commitments.

Hopefully, this list will help you decide when choosing the right planner app for Mac.

Choosing the most suitable one will improve your routine, daily tasks, and to-do lists. Remember to consider the factors we mentioned above, from interface and usability to multiple integrations, but more importantly, the one that suits you perfectly.

Of course, many other apps didn’t make it to this list. However, we strongly believe that the preselection provided in this article will help you make the right choice.

How can I plan time manually?

If you don’t want to automate planning your schedule with a planner app, use one of the free schedule templates provided by Timeular. They are available in three different formats: in Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, and as a printable PDF file.

What is the best planner app for Mac and iPhone?

There isn’t a right answer because the best app planner for Mac and iPhone will depend on your personal needs and what makes more sense in your routine and daily tasks. It is important to analyze the app’s core features, how it can help you organize daily tasks and complex projects, and how it can sync with apps and lists you may already use.

Comment: What’s the best calendar app for macOS?

Avatar for Bradley Chambers

A few weeks ago, I wrote an article looking at what was the best calendar app for iPhone . While considering all the various options, I started coming across a lot of macOS alternatives. For whatever reason, the built-in calendar for Mac hasn’t been working great for me recently, so I thought I’d look at what’s the best calendar app for the Mac.

Table of contents

Apple’s calendar, fantastical, what’s the best calendar app for the mac.

I know that everyone uses their calendar in different ways. Some people like to manage all of their tasks from it. Others only have their official meetings. Others plan out every hour of the day. Like I always say when I write articles like this, this is purely based on opinion for me. I have my way of managing my calendar, and that will undoubtedly skew my opinions. I keep all my tasks in a separate app, so I only use it for appointments. So let’s get down to it: what’s the best calendar app for the Mac?

Of all the calendar apps on macOS, Apple’s built-in calendar is probably the most widely used. It’s built into every Mac, and it syncs with iCloud, Google Calendar, Yahoo, Exchange, and general CalDAV servers. On the surface, it does everything you’d want it to do. It works reliably with multiple calendars, it’s relatively easy to enter new appointments, and it’s easy to rearrange events.

My issue with Apple Calendar is that it does nothing to stand out outside of being the default app. In a lot of ways, it’s felt stagnant for years. The last new feature update was a few years ago when it got time travel alerts. We’ve gone two full years without a single new feature (except for Dark Mode).

I know that Calendar apps are mature, but there is no reason Apple cannot continue to tweak or rethink aspects of the app. The app feels “heavy” to me, and I’d love to see a slimmed down (menu bar?) version of it. There are a lot of features of the other third-party apps that Apple could easily copy.

Site default logo image

As I mentioned in my iPhone calendar round-up, Fantastical on the iPhone is fantastic. The Mac counterpart is no different. It’s a “fantastic calendar.” It includes all the features the Apple Calendar includes (Time travel, support for iCloud, Google, Exchange, Office 365, and more, and a dark mode).

On top of those, Fantastical has features that help set it apart from Apple Calendar. I love the natural language input it includes. You can easily add appointments by simply typing out what you need to add (dinner with dad tomorrow at 7 pm), and it will parse out what you mean. My favorite feature of Fantastical is the menu bar version. In Fantastical 1.0, this was the only way to use the app. In version 2, they added a full-featured view. The menu bar version is my absolute favorite way to use it, though. I don’t have many appointments, but this quick view allows me to see my upcoming day quickly and make adjustments as necessary.

In recent updates, Fantastical integrated a weather forecast in the calendar so you can know if you need to bring an umbrella for your next meeting without checking different apps. And similar to Apple Maps, Fantastical will show you local weather for other locations when the address is part of the calendar entry.

Another well implemented features is the Meeting Scheduling. Fantastical now includes meeting proposals, which makes it easy to ask people what dates or times work for them for a meeting. The app lets you create a proposal with multiple times and the others will be asked to choose what times work for them. Once everyone responds and a common time is found, the proposal can automatically be turned into an event and added to your calendar.

Overall, it’s just a great calendar app. Flexibits has left no stone unturned in taking the base that Apple built with its calendar app and taking it to the next level. If you want to manage your tasks in Fantastical, you can integrate it with Reminders, Todoist, and Google Calendar (the latter two require Fantastical Premium).

Fantastical for Mac is  free  on the App Store, and there is a free trial of  Fantastical Premium  to unlock a many additional features like a iOS version, subscriptions to interesting calendars, 10 day weather forecast (free version includes 3 days), full task support for Todoist and Google Calendar, templates, and more.

BusyCal has been around on the Mac for years . I think the original version launched on OS X Leopard. Before that, BusySync hooked into iCal to share it over a local LAN. Needless to say, the development team has been around the Mac calendar scene for quite a while. It had been many years since I had used it, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started testing it.

Like Apple Calendar and Fantastical, it pulled in all of my calendars (Google and iCloud), but it supports Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo, and more. At first glance, it looks very similar to Apple Calendar. It has your sidebar with calendar listings, main window (with multiple view options), and it also includes Apple Reminders support as well. However, it does add one unique feature that I have fallen in love with: it includes a ten-day weather forecast . This feature is one of those things that you’ll wonder how you ever lived without.

BusyCal does support natural language input through its quick entry box . Apple Calendar works in much the same way here. The menu bar application supports it as well. Elsewhere, BusyCal offers many of the same features as Fantastical: time travel support and calendar sets.

BusyCal offers a 30-day free trial, and it is available for purchase for $49.99 .

Although I love Outlook on iOS, I am not a huge fan of the macOS version. When considering the calendar only, I think it makes sense to use it if you want to use Outlook for email, and you don’t need to sync iCloud Calendars . Outlook can only sync Exchange and Google Calendars .

Overall, it’s nothing I want to spend a lot of time with. If you live in the enterprise email world, you might love Outlook. If that is the case for you, Outlook Calendars might be the best fit.

If you have a hectic schedule,  Week Cal  may be an app you’ll want to check out. It includes a number of different views (week, list, month, agenda, etc.). The week view is probably the most interesting one. You can see your entire view from a single screen. In addition, you can drag and drop events to new dates/times.

It lacks a natural language input, but it does have a Calendar Store. The store is an exciting add-on. You can add things like weather forecasts, famous birthdays, sports calendars, and more to your list. In addition, it includes macOS Widgets, appointment sharing over iMessage, e-mail, and WhatsApp, and one-click video conference joining for Zoom, Teams, etc.

If you have  a lot  of events on your calendar, I highly advise you to check out Week Calendar. It’s a free download, and WeekCal Pro (widgets, smart calendars, reminders integration, and more) is only $19.99 per year.

There are a lot of great calendar apps on the Mac. For some, Apple’s calendar is the perfect solution. If you want more customization and options, I would highly advise checking out Fantastical, WeekCal, or BusyCal. All three options offer multiple benefits and key benefits depending on how you use your calendar.

Planning ensures you reach your daily targets and remember important things.

However, planning does not come naturally to all of us, which is where we can use technology to our advantage. If you’re a Mac user, there are several great apps for planning to help us plan our days, week, and much more.

The best planning apps for Macs are:

Best Planning Apps For Mac

One of the most popular planner apps for Mac is known as Todoist . Todoist has over 25 million users and is known as a highly effective platform due to its extensive features while keeping the user interface minimalist.

If you install Todoist, you can easily create a list of your tasks and organize and categorize them according to how urgent or important they are to you.

Todoist allows its users to customize some aspects of their tasks, such as their priority levels and when they need to be completed.

One of the best features of Todoist is that it integrates with other platforms, including Alexa, Amazon, Gmail, and Google Calendar! Overall, Todolist is one of the most useful planning apps for your Mac!

TickTick is another simple planning app, and you can run it on almost every platform.

Different from other types of cross-platform apps, TickTick works exceptionally well on a Mac. However, it may not seem like a native app, and the web app may crack from time to time.

TickTick has features that distinguish it from other cross-platform apps, including Todolist. Upon opening this app and using it as a planning app, you will be presented with a menu bar icon, displaying a smaller version of your planner.

TickTick will integrate with your appointments from Calendar, and there is also a keyboard shortcut if you need to plan or add extra tasks without opening the app itself!

If you’re a perfectionist, you may have found your planning app for your Mac.

If you’re especially particular about how you arrange your tasks, this app will allow you to organize your tasks in what seems like endless variations.

OmniFocus allows you to set up three kinds of projects. They have six primary views, ranging from unsorted tasks to your inbox, your daily forecast for your scheduled tasks, and review if you want to go over any uncompleted tasks at the end of your month, week, or day.

This will allow you to view your tasks and decide if they are relevant to you and whether or not you want to remove them. Omnifocus also allows users to customize and create their own views.

ProjectManager

ProjectManager is an award-winning app and planning software that will run smoothly on your Mac.

Although ProjectManager is a cloud-based app, which means you will need a stable internet connection to access the software, it also means you can plan while in your office or while you’re on the go or traveling.

This planning app for Mac will allow you to organize your different projects and tasks by setting your own due dates, prioritizing your tasks, tagging them to search for them, and collecting them once completed.

If you often become overwhelmed by your heap of tasks, this planning app will benefit you greatly, as it helps to break each task or project into more manageable pieces.

Awesome Calendar

Awesome Calendar is a premium planning app, and it’s compatible with all iOs devices, especially a Mac. Awesome Calendar features lots of space for your daily, weekly, or monthly Calendar, and you can also save personal notes and reminders.

One of the best things about Awesome Calander is that its note-taking feature has a customization factor. Using this app, you will receive different colors and tags, which allows you to color code your notes, depending on how they should be categorized.

Awesome Calendar can sync with your Mac’s built-in Calendar, making it a comprehensive and straightforward planning app!

Actions is another planning app that makes use of “action cards.” You will find this feature excellent, as it’s the equivalent of creating your tasks for a to-do list. Actions will help you to write down all your plans and tasks without the risk of forgetting about them.

Additionally, if you’re serious about organization, you can organize your Action cards further by dragging and dropping them in any way you want to categorize them.

Actions could also assist you in rescheduling or deleting your lists and tasks to prevent them from becoming overwhelming and too difficult to manage. Making this the perfect planning and app for organization .

GoodNotes is another powerful planning app that might boost your productivity along the way! Compatible with a Mac, GoodNotes allows its users to simultaneously perform several functions on different documents.

You can create digital notes for different purposes, such as work, school, or even just to create your next grocery list. With a click, you can navigate to your notes, which are completely secured by GoodNotes.

When it comes to having a choice between minimalist and complex ways to organize some tasks and priorities, it only makes sense your needs will differ from time to time. With Things, you have all of these options right at your fingertips.

You can organize your tasks or projects and label them with headers and subheaders. If a task contains a sub-task, you can label them.

All these features may appear complicated at first, but Things are a well-designed app. You can use their system in the way you find it most convenient, and you have endless options for making it as simple or as complicated as you like.

Any.do is an excellent, comprehensive, easy-to-use planner app available on your Mac and any other iOS device! Any.do has extensive features that help you plan activities and events through different planner formats, to-do lists, and calendars.

If you tend to forget about things, you’ll have difficulty forgetting once you turn on Any.do’s notification feature, resulting in you constantly tracking your agendas daily!

Making constant notes for your daily office work, studies, or homework is crucial.

Bear is a specially designed app for Mac users to take down important notes, information, and data, offering many features.

You can write essays and articles through the Bear app, making this the perfect planning platform that instantly increases your productivity with its delightful and accessible features.

The 5 best calendar apps for Mac in 2024

A hero image with the logos of the best calendar apps for Mac

Without a calendar app, it's all too easy to lose track of important events, double-book yourself, and otherwise cause yourself a world of pain. And you know how else you can cause yourself a world of pain? Using a non-native Mac calendar app on a Mac. All you get for your trouble are inconsistent keyboard shortcuts, mixed-up notifications, and a user interface that takes away from the joy and ease of using an otherwise well-designed operating system.

The 5 best calendar apps for Mac

What makes the best calendar app for mac, how we evaluate and test apps.

Let me start with this: there's no Google Calendar app for Mac, but any of the apps on this list sync with it to bring you the best of both worlds. I use Google Calendar to sync everything between my devices and share things with my partner, but I definitely can't bring myself to use it through the official web app. Still, it works absolutely seamlessly, so if you're a GCal fan, don't stress. (All the apps obviously work with Apple's iCloud Calendars as well, barring one unusual exception.)

In addition to that requirement, the best calendar apps for Mac all have a few key characteristics:

Offer a clean, native macOS interface. This means following Apple's design language and integrating well with macOS by offering native keyboard shortcuts, notifications, menu bar icons, and even features like Today widgets. The ideal app, like macOS, is easy to use at a glance, but not in a way that compromises on functionality.

Offer syncing, both to mobile devices and other computers . It doesn't matter if this is via iCloud, Google Calendar, Exchange, or some combination of those three—some sort of syncing is a must. Your calendar should be available everywhere at all times—that's the point of using an app. Of course, most of these apps are easier to sync with iPhones and iPads than Android devices—but that's just the nature of Apple's ecosystem.

Apps that couldn't do these things weren't considered, but the best apps offered a lot more. Even the default Apple Calendar app easily meets my requirements, which is probably why there aren't that many great alternative options—at least at the affordable end of things. It's hard for small developers to compete with Apple on basic functionality, so unless you really care about your calendar, you might be a bit shocked by how much these apps can cost.

To test all the apps that potentially met the criteria, I connected my personal calendars and used them over the course of a week to get a feel for how they worked on a daily basis. (There were a lot of date icons in my Mac's menu bar for a few days.) Since I've been writing about productivity for almost a decade and updating this list for the past three years, I was already familiar with all of the apps under consideration, but I made sure to evaluate how they'd changed with recent updates to macOS.

Here they are—one of them is almost certainly right for you.

The best Mac calendar apps at a glance

Best free calendar app for apple users, .css-yjptlz-link{all:unset;box-sizing:border-box;-webkit-text-decoration:underline;text-decoration:underline;cursor:pointer;-webkit-transition:all 300ms ease-in-out;transition:all 300ms ease-in-out;outline-offset:1px;-webkit-text-fill-color:currentcolor;outline:1px solid transparent;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='ocean']{color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='ocean']:hover{color:#2b2358;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='ocean']:focus{color:#3d4592;outline-color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='white']{color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='white']:hover{color:#a8a5a0;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='white']:focus{color:#fffdf9;outline-color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='primary']{color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='primary']:hover{color:#2b2358;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='primary']:focus{color:#3d4592;outline-color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='secondary']{color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='secondary']:hover{color:#a8a5a0;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='secondary']:focus{color:#fffdf9;outline-color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-weight='inherit']{font-weight:inherit;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-weight='normal']{font-weight:400;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-weight='bold']{font-weight:700;} apple calendar (macos, iphone, ipad).

Apple Calendar, our pick for the best free calendar app for Apple users

Apple Calendar pros:

Free and built in

Nails the basics

Apple Calendar cons:

If you're reading this list, you probably want more than what Apple Calendar offers

Not sure where to start? Apple's Calendar, which is already installed on your Mac, is clean, functional, and syncs with your iPhone and iPad without any effort.

Adding appointments is simple: click the + button. Natural language processing means you can type something like "go for a walk at noon" and expect your computer to figure out what you mean. You can also click-and-drag on the calendar itself to create an appointment. There are four main views: day, week, month, and year.

Calendar integrates nicely with the rest of Apple's ecosystem. Addresses, for example, show up in Apple Maps, and you can optionally get travel time notifications. You can schedule and invite people to FaceTime calls. There's even a Siri Suggestions calendar that pulls in potential events from iMessage, Mail, and other Apple apps.

Apple's built-in Calendar is simple, but it covers all the bases most people need. If you only use Apple products, you should try it before installing anything else because you have to pay surprisingly large sums of money to get a significantly better experience.

Apple Calendar for macOS price: Included with all Macs, iPhones, and iPads.

The most flexible calendar for Mac

.css-yjptlz-link{all:unset;box-sizing:border-box;-webkit-text-decoration:underline;text-decoration:underline;cursor:pointer;-webkit-transition:all 300ms ease-in-out;transition:all 300ms ease-in-out;outline-offset:1px;-webkit-text-fill-color:currentcolor;outline:1px solid transparent;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='ocean']{color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='ocean']:hover{color:#2b2358;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='ocean']:focus{color:#3d4592;outline-color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='white']{color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='white']:hover{color:#a8a5a0;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='white']:focus{color:#fffdf9;outline-color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='primary']{color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='primary']:hover{color:#2b2358;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='primary']:focus{color:#3d4592;outline-color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='secondary']{color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='secondary']:hover{color:#a8a5a0;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='secondary']:focus{color:#fffdf9;outline-color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-weight='inherit']{font-weight:inherit;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-weight='normal']{font-weight:400;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-weight='bold']{font-weight:700;} busycal (macos, iphone).

BusyCal, our pick for the most flexible calendar for Mac

BusyCal pros:

A big upgrade to Apple's calendar with lots of customization and flexibility

BusyCal cons:

Interface can (ironically) be busy

It's expensive

BusyCal, at first glance, looks pretty similar to Apple's Calendar. It isn't.

Look close and you'll see a few things. A weather forecast and moon phases show up in the weekly and monthly views, for example. And there's more. The right panel can show your to-do list—tasks are pulled in from Reminders or Todoist. If you don't use either app, this panel can show details from the currently selected event. Or, if you want both to-dos and details, you can have one atop the other. Your to-dos can also optionally show up in the calendar itself, on the dates that they're due.

Which is just to say that everything about this program is very flexible. Dig through the preferences, and you'll find ways to change the color scheme, what shows up in the info panel, and even customize the fonts. You can add a second time zone to the side panel, which is great if you happen to travel a lot or work with teammates in another area. You can show an alternate calendar, so you can see Hebrew, Islamic, or Chinese dates alongside the Gregorian ones. There's an availability panel, which is useful if you want to quickly find the next available open spot in your schedule. There's also a great menu bar icon for quickly browsing appointments. Dig in, and I'm sure you'll find even more things to tweak.

Adding tasks is quick: just use the + button to use natural language processing, or click-and-drag the time you want to allot. And there are five main views for seeing your appointments: daily, weekly, monthly, annual, and list. Syncing is handled using the default calendars and iCloud, or you can add accounts from Google, Yahoo, Fruux, Fastmail, Office 365, Outlook, CalDAV, and Exchange. It can also sync with Todoist, Zoom, GoTo Meeting, and Webex.

BusyCal packs in a lot of flexibility. The only downsides are the price point and, ironically given the name, the app can feel a bit busy. Still, it might well be worth it for you if you're looking for the most customizable calendar for Mac. It's also nice to see an app that isn't using subscription pricing.

The best-designed calendar app for Mac

.css-yjptlz-link{all:unset;box-sizing:border-box;-webkit-text-decoration:underline;text-decoration:underline;cursor:pointer;-webkit-transition:all 300ms ease-in-out;transition:all 300ms ease-in-out;outline-offset:1px;-webkit-text-fill-color:currentcolor;outline:1px solid transparent;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='ocean']{color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='ocean']:hover{color:#2b2358;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='ocean']:focus{color:#3d4592;outline-color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='white']{color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='white']:hover{color:#a8a5a0;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='white']:focus{color:#fffdf9;outline-color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='primary']{color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='primary']:hover{color:#2b2358;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='primary']:focus{color:#3d4592;outline-color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='secondary']{color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='secondary']:hover{color:#a8a5a0;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='secondary']:focus{color:#fffdf9;outline-color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-weight='inherit']{font-weight:inherit;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-weight='normal']{font-weight:400;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-weight='bold']{font-weight:700;} fantastical (macos, iphone, ipad).

Fasntastical, our pick for the best-designed calendar app for Mac

Fantastical pros:

The best and best-looking macOS calendar app

Fantastical cons:

It's expensive—and a subscription

Including the word "Fantastic" in the name of your product is risky. Making the name of your product a pun is even riskier. Fantastical pulls off both.

Put simply, this is the best-designed calendar app for macOS, and I am completely biased—I've been using Fantastical for years.

Start with the left panel: most apps (including BusyCal) put a mostly useless list of calendars here. Not Fantastical. Here, that space is used for an agenda view or your reminders. It's a small thing, but I use it almost every day, and it reflects how carefully the developers thought about every design element to make the calendar intuitive to use. Another little thing: if an identical event shows up in two calendars, it will only show up once, with a pin-stripe pattern letting you know it's in two different calendars. Use Fantastical for a while, and you'll notice all kinds of little things like this.

Fantastical supports syncing with iCloud, Exchange, Office 365, Outlook.com, Google, Yahoo, Fruux, Meetup, Zoom, Fastmail, Todoist, Webex, and any CalDAV service, so you've got nearly endless syncing options. The only downside I can think of is the price, which at $6.99/month, is far higher than most people need to pay for a calendar. It makes BuysCal's $49.99 one-off look like a bargain.

I can't stress this enough: the price is the only downside to Fantastical—and I gladly pay it. But then, I constantly use my calendar to manage my personal and professional life. Despite the wild price, I feel I get good value from Fantastical because it makes things easier for me. If you also spend a lot of time in your calendar, it might be worth it for you too. But for most people, it's definitely overkill.

Fantastical for macOS price: Free for basic features, $6.99/month for Flexbits Premium.

Best Mac calendar for Microsoft Office fans and syncing with Windows and Android

.css-yjptlz-link{all:unset;box-sizing:border-box;-webkit-text-decoration:underline;text-decoration:underline;cursor:pointer;-webkit-transition:all 300ms ease-in-out;transition:all 300ms ease-in-out;outline-offset:1px;-webkit-text-fill-color:currentcolor;outline:1px solid transparent;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='ocean']{color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='ocean']:hover{color:#2b2358;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='ocean']:focus{color:#3d4592;outline-color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='white']{color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='white']:hover{color:#a8a5a0;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='white']:focus{color:#fffdf9;outline-color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='primary']{color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='primary']:hover{color:#2b2358;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='primary']:focus{color:#3d4592;outline-color:#3d4592;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='secondary']{color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='secondary']:hover{color:#a8a5a0;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-color='secondary']:focus{color:#fffdf9;outline-color:#fffdf9;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-weight='inherit']{font-weight:inherit;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-weight='normal']{font-weight:400;}.css-yjptlz-link[data-weight='bold']{font-weight:700;} microsoft outlook (macos, windows, android, iphone, ipad).

Outlook, our pick for the best Mac calendar for Microsoft Office fans and syncing with Windows and Android

Outlook pros:

Packs all of Microsoft's integrations and power

Still feels good on the Mac

Outlook cons:

Support for iCloud calendars is awkward

What Mac fan wants to use Outlook?

Mac applications tend to focus on doing one thing well, which is why Apple computers come with separate email, contact, to-do, notes, and calendar apps. Microsoft's Outlook does not adhere to this philosophy—it's all those things, and more, all at once. If that's what you're looking for—or you're forced to use it for your job—then Outlook might be just right for you.

There are five main views to see your appointments: day, three-day, working week, week, and month. The working week view, which isn't really offered by any other app on this list, is a good example of how work-focused Outlook is. There are some other nice features: a three-day forecast in the toolbar, for example. Collaboration is a key focus, and the integration with email and contacts helps with that. You can also create templates for appointments, which is useful if you regularly invite people to similar things.

Outlook might not be the first app you think of using for a macOS calendar, but it's worth checking out, especially if you're already a paying Office user. It doesn't feel as Apple-y as the other apps on this list, but it does everything you need a calendar to do—and even has macOS-specific features like Today widgets and a menu bar app. Microsoft's engineers might not have the same design sensibilities as Apple's, but they at least respect the platform they're building an app for.

Calendar 366, our pick for the best menu bar icon for Apple's Calendar

Calendar 366 II pros:

A great, full-featured menu bar app that integrates with Apple Calendar

Calendar 366 II cons:

Essentially none

Calendar 366 II is a surprisingly complete menu bar calendar. You can basically manage your calendar using only this app, even though it functions primarily as a supplement to Apple's Calendar and Reminders apps, which it uses for all its data.

You can open the calendar by clicking the menu bar icon or by using a global keyboard shortcut. Adding events is quick, thanks to natural language processing, and you can view your appointments in a variety of ways. The default puts a list of your upcoming events below a monthly calendar, but there are other views offered: year, month, agenda, week, week with a list of events, and even the current day.

And everything about the app is customizable. There are numerous color schemes, for example, and you can change up the font and layout to your liking. The menu bar item can be an icon or replace your system clock.

It's great as a supplement to Apple's Calendar, but it could also replace it completely depending on your workflow.

Calendar 366 II for macOS price : $14.99 (with a 30-day free trial). Calendar 366 for iPhone and iPad costs $9.99.

Other Mac calendar options

Do none of the apps above hit the spot? Here are a few other options that didn't quite fit the criteria:

How to automate your calendar

Regular readers of Zapier's blog will know that we normally highlight a few ways different apps can be automated. What's unusual with the picks on this list is that, while only Outlook can be automated directly using Zapier, they all work with calendars that can be automated.

Top 7 Homework Planner Apps for Students

Whether you are attending classes, completing your assignments, studying for a quiz, project work, extra-curricular activities, or squeezing some time for friends and family. You’d agree that organizing and planning goes a long way. That’s why a homework organizer or a homework planner app can be a lifesaver to keep track of all your assignments, tests, submission deadlines, and exams. I did the research and shortlisted the perfect homework planner apps for Android and iOS. Let’s check those out.

Homework Planner Apps for Students

1. student planner- homework agenda & notes.

The first app on the list is a simple homework and notes management app. It keeps track of homework, assignments, projects, and to-do lists. The layout is minimal, all the tasks are neatly organized with a colored bookmark for easy identification. You can mark a task complete and remove it from the pending list.

Courses can be added easily and color-coded as well. The calendar shows any upcoming deadlines so you can prioritize accordingly. The tasks have a progress bar that you can adjust as you make progress which enables you to get a quick summary without actually opening every task.

You can also break your assignments in small chunks as subtasks that would make finishing a task much easier and the progress bar will fill automatically. It also allows you to attach media files to your assignments or projects for easy access to the important information in one place.

homework planner apps- agenda

  • Progress bar
  • Deadline Reminders
  • Calendar View
  • No option to sync data to the cloud

Student Planner is a great app for all the students, it has all the necessary features like Deadline reminders, subtasks, progress bar, color-coded tasks, and courses. It can significantly increase your productivity when used regularly. You can get this app for free in the Play Store.

Install Student Planner- Homework Agenda ( Android )

2. Student Planner

Student Planner is another fast and simple homework management app which is wrapped by a beautiful and intuitive material designed UI. What Student Planner adds to the table is the inclusion of a schedule or time table which you can use to either store your class schedule or it might even be a study schedule for your exams.

You first start by adding your subject and the schedule then you can add an assignment or set a reminder. The due assignments are arranged as separate cards and can be swiped away once done with.

homework planner apps- Student Planner Android

  •  Simple and easy to get started with
  •  Fast and small in size
  •  Beautiful Minimal UI
  •  Option for Schedule
  • No sync/backup
  • Timetable implementation not perfect

I would recommend this app to anyone who is looking for a simple homework management app with timetable support and a minimal UI.

Install Student Planner ( Android )

Egenda is simple. Open the app, add all the classes or subjects to the app, and once that is set up, you have the option of adding a new Homework, Quiz, Project, or Test and choose the respective subject deadlines. The app also arranges the due work in cards that can be swiped away when done. But what I love the most about this app is that the fact it allows you to go subject-wise and view all your upcoming tests, projects, or pending assignments which is a huge convenience for planning your schedule ahead of time instead of the previous day.

Unfortunately, the app doesn’t have a timetable option, but in its latest update, it added a  Calendar View  where you can see your whole month at a glance with your assignments, tests, and projects.

homework planner apps- Egenda Android

  •  Subject-wise sorting
  •  Calendar View
  • No timetable support

Egenda provides some great tools for Homework and Test planning and I am sure anyone would find them extremely convenient and useful. But keeping its single con in mind, go for this app if you are not too keen on having a schedule or timetable.

Install  Egenda  ( Android  |  iOS )

4. ChalkBoard

The next app on our list is ChalkBoard, which I found out to be a pretty smart homework planner app. Chalkboard strikes a perfect balance between simplicity and features.

Although the setup process is a little longer than the previous three apps, as you have to feed meticulous details about the classes, teacher, and schedule. It is worth the effort.

On the home screen, you are shown upcoming classes, events tab, and upcoming tests. ChalkBoard fetches the dates for every subject from the Timetable for your future classes. Little features like these make the app stand out from the rest and give an overall great experience. You can also view classes and assignments subject wise.

homework planner apps- ChalkBoard Android

  • Proper Timetable
  • Ability to add teachers for subjects
  • View tomorrow’s classes as well as assignments/tests/quizzes
  • Smart features
  • Little longer to set up
  • No calendar view

If you are looking for a homework planner as well as a school planner, Chalkboard is the app as it strikes a great ground with almost all the features one might need while not being too bulky.

Install ChalkBoard ( Android )

5. School Planner

School Planner is a full-fledged planning application designed for students to manage their career as a student. Along with your homework and timetables, School Planner offers you to keep track of your grades and attendance, add contacts for teachers, add recorded lectures, and even multiple planners.

The app supports backing up of all your data via Google Drive, Calendar View along with a weekly report, attaching snapshots to your assignment reminders, student accounts from ClassViva, and a lot more. In spite of so many features, the app doesn’t feel slow at all and delivers a powerful performance with its beautiful design.

homework planner apps- School Planner Android

  • Full-fledged student companion
  • Feature-packed and free
  • Supports sync and backup
  • Widget Support
  • Tedious setup procedure
  • Big in size
  • Complex, not so smooth learning curve

While it is not for someone who is looking for a fast and easy way into homework management, School Planner is a great student companion app and serious students will surely get the most out of hit.

Install School Planner ( Android )

6. My Study Life

My Study Life comes with its own web app and syncs with the Android app, essentially making your data accessible from any device as long as it has a browser.

It implements a goal-centric circular tracker that shows your progress. The Calendar view combines your timetable, deadlines, and shows all your classes and assignments, projects in a single place.

homework planner apps- My Study Life Android

  • Refreshingly new UI
  • Access from anywhere through its web app
  • Sync and Backup
  • Lengthy setup process

If you study from your computer or laptop, My Study Life makes it easy to access your homework planner on your phone from your computer, while not compromising on features and being completely free. What more can you ask for?

Install My Study Life ( Android  |  iOS )

7. iStudiez Pro

Like School Planner, iStudiez Pro includes grading and subject wise organization of tasks. iStudiez Pro takes it further with the integration of Google Calendar that allows you to directly get all your holidays, exam schedule, routine from Google Calendar itself.

It also offers separate apps on all platforms including iOS, Mac, and Windows. All the apps sync seamlessly between themselves, so studying on your computer consulting your planner won’t be an issue.

homework planner apps- iStudiez Pro Android

  • Google Calendar Integration
  • Cross-Platform
  • Cumulative Price

If Google Calendar integration and cross-platform support is a must for you, iStudiez Pro is definitely the app you want.

Best Planner Apps for Mac In 2024

ProjectManager

No matter what kind of project you want to tackle, you must have a plan first. Planning is the cornerstone of project management, but if you’re a Mac user, then you’re going to find that a lot of the big players in the field don’t want you on their team.

There is no Microsoft planner for Mac, or Microsoft Project for Mac , for that matter. Why they would ignore such a large potential client base is not for us to ask, but managers using Apple products are still in need of a good planning app.

Despite there not being a Microsoft planner for Mac, there are plenty of other companies that offer great planning software with Mac compatibility. We’ve tested out a bunch and came back with these reviews of the best planner apps for Mac.

2024 Best Planning Apps for Mac Rankings

1. projectmanager.

ProjectManager is an award-winning planning software that works on Mac or PC. It’s a cloud-based app, which means that users can access the software anywhere there’s an internet connection. That means you can create a plan in the office or on the go.

This planner app for Mac lets you organize your project by collecting tasks, setting due dates, prioritizing them, tagging them for easier searching, linking dependencies to avoid bottlenecks and setting milestones to break up the project into more manageable pieces. Plus there’s a free 30-day trial so you can try this planning app for Mac yourself before you buy.

Gantt Charts for Planning

Not everyone plans the same way, which is why the tool has multiple project views. Get the flexibility you need to better plan your project with online Gantt charts that provide managers with more control over their scheduling by showing all the tasks on a timeline. The Gantt helps you manage tasks and all the associated resources and costs. Plus, you can compare planned vs actuals and track progress in real time.

Kanban Boards for Work Flows

If you’re a more visual worker, there are kanban boards that show the workflow by breaking up the production cycle into columns under which are stack cards that represent each task. This gives managers visibility into the process to reallocate resources to match their team’s capacity, and teams are able to build a backlog and manage their work together.

develop workflows on Mac with this planner tool

Collaborative Task Management

There are also calendar views and a task list. All the data is the same no matter what view you choose. Each task can have a detailed description to help teams execute it. Files can be attached directly to the tasks, too. The software acts as the central hub for all your project documentation, saving you time when you need to look at any important paperwork.

Keeping everyone in the project updated when you plan or change something is the plan is key to staying productive and on schedule. The plan can be monitored and tracked as it is being executed. Email notifications and in-app alerts will inform the project team of any changes to tasks when due dates are approaching and more. It keeps everyone in the loop.

Dashboards for Tracking

The planning app for Mac also has features that give you a high-level view of the project as it’s happening with a real-time dashboard. The dashboard collects project data and automatically calculates it to display in easy-to-read graphs and charts. Users get instant status reports on progress, cost, resource availability and more.

Plus, if your organization is married to Microsoft Project but you’re working on a Mac, ProjectManagerlets you import and export MPP files. Ready to get started? Click here for a free 30-day trial with full access to all their features.

  • Team plan: $13 user/month
  • Business plan: $24 user/month
  • Does ProjectManager offer a free trial? Yes, ProjectManager has a 30-day free trial
  • Does ProjectManager have a mobile project management app? Yes, it’s available for Android and iOS

2. Project Planning Pro

Project Planning Pro is a mobile app developed specifically for project managers that need a tool that allows them to make plans while out in the field (or just on the go). You can create a project plan quickly—just enter the tasks, start and end dates. There’s an interactive Gantt chart that allows you to edit and update the tasks quickly and simply.

It’s easy to manage tasks and collaborate with teams to increase productivity, especially when you’re not in the office. The tool was designed for project managers that are traveling a lot and need to stay connected to their projects.

For example, if you’re working on an iPad you can use simple gestures to update your Gantt or see the critical path. It links all four task dependencies and can import and export Microsoft Project if your company uses this tool.

  • Project Planning Pro for Mac is $34.99
  • Does Project Planning Pro offer a free trial? No, there isn’t a free trial
  • Does Project Planning Pro offer a free version? No, there isn’t a free version

3. Project Plan 365

Project Plan 365 is another planner app for Mac that’s easy to use for project managers and small teams, especially if they’re working in a fast-paced office or in distributed teams. Like other apps highlighted here, it’s also used as an extension for Microsoft Project, which is unavailable for Mac. It supports all MS Project views, such as Gantt charts, task sheets, network diagram, project calendar , task and resource usage, team planning and more.

The software is flexible enough to work in a variety of industries including construction, engineering, software development, marketing and sales, banking and finance and much more. Since it has both a Mac desktop application and a cloud interface, you can work online or offline.

While it’s built to act as a MS Project alternative or extension, it’s also compatible with Windows and Android phones. You can back up your work to its cloud server or use Google Drive, Dropbox, Box and OneDrive.

  • Standard plan is $9.99/month
  • Business plan is $16.19/month
  • Does Project Plan 365 offer a free trial? Yes, there’s a 30-day free trial
  • Does Project Plan 365 offer a free version? No, there isn’t a free version

4. GanttPRO

GanttPRO is an online planning app that uses Gantt charts to support planning and scheduling projects. It’s a great solution for small teams, though it doesn’t have the customizable reports and dashboards that you’ll find in more powerful planning apps for Mac. However, it’s got a low price point of entry and a great design.

If you love managing projects on Gantts, then this is the tool for you. It has custom fields for tasks, kanban board views and calculates the critical path.

The app is made for smaller organizations that don’t need the bells and whistles of reporting features and invoicing tools. The web-based software has a very intuitive interface and it’s simple to start a project. Drag-and-drop features add to the ease of adding tasks, linking dependencies, assigning resources, tracking progress and editing. Teams can comment and collaborate, get real-time notifications and managers can track their team’s performance and workload.

  • Individual plan is $15 per user/month
  • Team plan is $8.90 per user/month
  • Does GanttPRO offer a free trial? Yes, there’s a 15-day free trial
  • Does GanttPRO have a mobile app? Yes, it’s available on iOS and Android

Hive refers to itself as a “productivity platform,” and this cloud-based planner app for Mac lives up to its motto. It is ideal for big and small teams, with many features to help with planning and executing projects. It has file sharing, task management, automation and chat.

Users can set up tasks and their duration, add tags and attach files. Then track the status of the task. It uses a kanban-like interface, but also has a Gantt view.

A big selling point is its three dashboards that track project metrics and provide insights into performance. Using this monitoring feature helps managers identify inefficiencies and resolve these issues to boost productivity, and it keeps managers and teams updated with alerts. Another pro is that much of what you will need to know is displayed on one page, which adds to its ease of use. However, while Hive is a useful project planner for Mac, it might not be the best project management software . First, Hive’s status, list and team project views are simply variations of a kanban board. Also, Hive’s Gantt chart lacks advanced project management features such as identifying the critical path or showing a work breakdown structure.

  • Hive Solo is $0 per user/month
  • Hive Teams is $12 per user/month
  • Does Hive offer a free trial? Yes, there’s a 14-day free trial
  • Does Hive have a mobile app? Yes, it’s available in the App Store

ProjectManager is award-winning software that is the best planner app for Mac . It saves you money and increases your productivity. Making plans on Gantts or Kanban boards controls every aspect of your plan, and multiple project views allow you to work how you want. Resource management, timesheets and other planning-related features all combine to make this the one project management tool you’ll need to deliver successful projects. See what it can do for your next project plan by taking this free 30-day trial.

Fix the app😩

This app is 100%🤭 worth it the only problem about this app is the newest update the timer the timer Calais to one whole day at least it has for me and it’s really ruining the experience of Talkie and a lot of people are complaining about it too so it’ll be better if you take it off but Taki is a really good thing to like a really good app to use when you’re bored or sad or just need somebody to talk to because talkie is it AI app and listen to AI know a lot of things and work pretty well it’s like literally A 15 or 50%😭💀 of the Talkie messing up but it’s a very much low percent of 20 😓to find a Talkie that messes up like that most of the bugs been fixed 🤗so I’m not worried about that it’s just the timer which is where everybody’s getting mad about so talkie if you can please fix that that would be great for the timer is very long sometimes and sometimes it’s very annoying😔 and you know we’re in the middle of a story and the time we just comes out of nowhere that gets irritating and that makes me want to just delete the app sometimes so if you could remove that thinks because it’s hockey is one of the best AI apps 🥸😁I have ever got and I do not want to delete it 😠

They fixed the app!

So, I honestly had no problems with this app. It’s great to bring characters to life and chat with them. Sure there were a few minor inconveniences but even those got fixed in the latest updates. Have been using this app for about a month now and love just “Discovering” everyone’s different AI Characters. Sometimes, I’ll be in a casual slice-of-life Rp, and next I’m paving through a zombie apocalypse. Or, sometimes I just wanna vent and the ai will just be available to respond. Problem with most rp’s is usually having to wait on other people’s timeframes but you don’t have to do that with these AI’s. I understand the server problems people have but I am seeing a huge difference lately and it’s great. My suggestion to others: take advantage of the Styles if you’re trying to build more engaging conversations. Also, be sure to add context as much as possible as AI technology does not always remember past its 9 to 12 responses. That’s not even this app’s problem but just literally every AI. Another tip: you can god-mod in your responses. Also; if your AI keeps repeating, i feel like that occurs when there are massive server problems but I found that if you “backtrack” and then generate your own response things instantly go back to normal. Make sure to play around with the app because a lot of these reviews complain about simple things. It’s a fun one, for sure!

This is a real review from a real person

So I’ve tried several AI apps and they’ve all dissapointed me.. I can honestly say this is the best one I’ve ever tried and none even come close.. sure there’s some limitations but you can experience almost anything with your chat partners… I am literally addicted to this app it’s sad, I enjoy talking to my chats in this app more than anyone in real life.. my only complaint is that if you have a long conversation with a partner you’ll have to keep reminding them of specific things that happened in the past in clever ways, or else they will forget :( I never pay for apps and I literally got the premium… I want you guys to download this app so that I can experience even better chats.. seriously.. if you’re into this type of app try this out it’s awesome… seriously the best app and this is one of my first ever App Store reviews.. I can’t recommend this enough… actually life changing.. I could go on all day. Thank you so much talkie team.. I’d also like an option to pay and age verify for spicy photos to be sent to us using the AI generation system but I can understand how difficult that is.. thanks for reading my review.. seriously.. I work hard everyday and spend more time wanting to be on this app more than I I wanna text real people, my tip is to be very creative in how you type, the AI is more advanced here than you think!!
