Physical appearance [ ]

Coach yaeger

Posing as Coach Yaeger.

Taskmaster has a muscular build, yet doesn't show his actual appearance and hides it behind a skeleton mask with yellow eyes. He wears several prosthetic masks behind to cover his secret identity. He wears a black suit, with white gloves, boots and a white cape with a hood. He wears several belts on him to carry his equipment. [1]

As "Coach Yaeger," he wears a mask with brown hair and wears usual gym clothes, which consists of a sweatshirt, short black pants, black shoes, and a white sweat headband and armband. [1]

Personality [ ]

Taskmaster is a tactical genius at studying people and can solve mathematical problems in seconds, even predicting the next move of the enemy. He is strict towards others and intimidates them. He also appears to be very sarcastic. He is a master at copying others abilities and his focus is unmatchable, making him a formidable opponent in combat. [1]

History [ ]

Early life [ ].

At some point, Taskmaster joined S.H.I.E.L.D. and took training from them and acquired equipment. He then was betrayed by Nick Fury and Phil Coulson . From that point, he decided to someday take revenge on the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. [1]

Season 1 [ ]

Taskmaster was hired by Otto Octavius to capture Spider-Man . He infiltrated Midtown High School under the guise as "Coach Yaeger" since he had purposely injured the original coach . Taskmaster used deductive reasoning to come to the idea that Spider-Man was one of the boys who passed his fitness exam, telling some of them to report back to school the next day. Taskmaster then subdued Phil Coulson to use Coulson's access to activate the school's S.H.I.E.L.D. security system. While trying to see if Harry Osborn and Flash Thompson will turn into Spider-Man, he captures Harry yet Flash escapes, making Taskmaster assume the latter over the former as the web-slinger. Taskmaster then fights Spider-Man and White Tiger , he beating the two young superheroes through the stealing of their abilities. When the two lured him into a dark room and swapped abilities, he was finally defeated. After realizing that Spider-Man and Flash were actually two different people, he escaped and left his fake "Yaeger" mask behind. He then reported back to Octavius about the school being a "dead end." [1]

Season 2 [ ]

At some point, Taskmaster set up a training camp for his Acolytes, an elite force that he personally trained. He then met Deadpool and managed to steal Deadpool's stolen list that contained the secret identities of superheroes. When Spider-Man and Deadpool go after "Agent MacGuffin" for having stolen encrypted information about the secret identities of every superhero, they travel to Taskmaster's training camp and are attacked by his Acolytes, but his Acolytes are defeated and a missile is destroyed. At his training compound, Taskmaster encounters Spider-Man and then Deadpool. Unable to copy Deadpool's moves, Taskmaster's attacks are to no avail due to Deadpool's unpredictable fighting style. Spider-Man then manages to web up Taskmaster as it turns out that Taskmaster actually stole the S.H.I.E.L.D. list from Deadpool who planned to sell it for money and made up the "Agent MacGuffin" scenario. [2]

Season 3 [ ]

Taskmaster appears to take the role as the main antagonist of the first half of Season 3, as he is gathering other super-powered teenagers for his own purposes.

"Web-Warriors" story arc, Taskmaster strives to recruit fledgling young superheroes for his sinister purposes which brings him regularly into conflict with Spider-Man.

In the episode Agent Venom , Taskmaster enlists Beetle into helping him get the last piece of the Venom symbiote where they end up fighting Spider-Man and Agent Venom . Beetle is defeated by Spider-Man and Agent Venom, but Taskmaster escapes. Taskmaster is later seen having hacked into the S.H.I.E.L.D. computer showing the different young heroes.

In the episode Cloak and Dagger , Taskmaster is shown to have Cloak and Dagger on his side. Taskmaster lied to Cloak and Dagger that no one can be trusted.

In the episode The Next Iron Spider , Taskmaster attempts to steal the Iron Spider Armor with Amadeus Cho still inside it, but Spider-Man assists him and saves innocents. Taskmaster uses a nanobot to hack the armor which causes Amadeus Cho to fight Spider-Man uncontrollably. Amadeus Cho manages to fix it, but Taskmaster gets away and the nanobot nearly causes the Iron Spider armor to explode (Spider-Man managed to remove the nanobot and Amadeus Cho resolves the virus).

In the episode The Vulture , Taskmaster steals signals Doctor Octopus's files. He later calls Vulture to the rooftop he's on by using his first name and offers to help Vulture learn his true identity.

In the episode The Savage Spider-Man , Taskmaster teams up with Kraven the Hunter to capture Zabu so that he can get Ka-Zar on his side. After Spider-Man is hit with a dart with a special poison that transforms him into the Man-Spider, Taskmaster, and Kraven the Hunter escape with Zabu's cage. After Spider-Man is restored to normal, he, Ka-Zar, and Wolverine pursue Taskmaster and Kraven the Hunter to Manhattan. While Spider-Man fights Kraven the Hunter, Ka-Zar fights Taskmaster until Wolverine catches up and tackles Taskmaster into the river. Taskmaster manages to get away.

In the episode, New Warriors , Cloak and Dagger and Vulture end up being members of Taskmaster's own team called the Thunderbolts . Taskmaster and his team attack the Tri-Carrier and is revealed to be working with Green Goblin . He tricks Agent Venom and Amadeus Cho into freeing Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Beetle, and Scorpion . When Vulture sees Doctor Octopus, Taskmaster tells him to wait and that he will get his chance for payback. When Cloak teleports Green Goblin to the armory, Taskmaster is told by Green Goblin that he has some technology stored there. When Doctor Octopus, Beetle, and Scorpion take off in a Quinjet, Taskmaster allows Vulture to cause the Wuinjet to crash onto the Tri-Carrier. After Cloak is saved by Spider-Man from the Tri-Carrier's engines after Taskmaster refuses to he and Dagger learn that Taskmaster cannot be trusted, they leave the Thunderbolts and join the New Warriors while Vulture remains a member of Taskmaster's team. Spider-Man and his New Warriors defeat Taskmaster, Doctor Octopus, Beetle, and Scorpion while Vulture and Green Goblin (who just obtained the Siege Perilous) escape from the Tri-Carrier.

Taskmaster later makes a non-voiced cameo appearance in "Contest of Champions" (Pt. 1) as one of the  Grandmaster 's many collected villains for the contest against Spider-Man and the  Collector .

Anthony Masters

Anthony Masters is one of the best agents S.H.I.E.L.D. has to offer. After being sent on a mission to take down Horst-Gorscht and ODESSA, a neo-nazi organization hidden in Bolma that was working with Baron Von Strucker's HYDRA by developing Super-Soldier Serums for them using Adolph Hitler's blood. When Tony arrived to Gorstch, he was already hit by a bullet and was delusional, he told Tony about a perfected serum he developed which would not only boost people to peak levels of what was humanly possible, but also include assimilating knowledge instantly . However the ODESSA structure began to collapse, this in combination with Gorstch's death would mean all his notes and knowledge would have been lost forever and the serum wouldn't have been able to be replicated. In the heat of the moment, Tony injected himself with the newly-developed Soldier Serum for him to memorize Gorstch's notes and escape from the structure quickly. As a side-effect of the Serum, Tony developed a degree of amnesia and created an alter-ego called "Taskmaster" which worked as a mercenary for criminal organizations and whatnot. That said, he subconsciously still worked for S.H.I.E.L.D.

Watching broadcasts of superhuman activity, he executed several successful grand larcenies but underestimated the dangers involved in such work. He thus used his profits to start up academies where he trained aspiring super-villains, including Crossbones, to become professionals in their chosen field. He designed a costume and took the name Taskmaster. He remained undetected until the activities of one head of an academy caused the Avengers to become aware of these facilities. Taskmaster battled Captain America and Iron Man, and was forced to flee; during his confrontation with Jocasta he was unable to predict her future movements because of her lack of body language.

Taskmaster

Taskmaster was created by David Michelinie and George Perez, and first appeared in Avengers #195.

Character Evolution

A weapon for every occasion.

Taskmaster was soon noticed by the terrorist organization Hydra and was hired to train their new recruit, Spider-Woman. Taskmaster had several run-ins with superheroes, especially Spider-Man and Scott Lang as Ant-Man. Each time he was defeated, he managed to escape. Taskmaster also teamed up with Wizard, Deadpool, and Constrictor to form a new incarnation of the Frightful Four, though this association didn't last long. Taskmaster continued his training business. He even had a hand in training John Walker to become the next Captain America in a scheme run by the Red Skull to disgrace his image. He also began to train henchmen and servants for Red Skull himself. Taskmaster is very good at training others. Among those he has trained are: Agent-X, Crossbones, Cutthroat, Diamondback, Hauptmann Deutschland, Spider-Woman, Spymaster and U.S.Agent. Taskmaster specially trained the Scarlet Spiders by having his mind connected to theirs and relaying recordings of Spider-Man's moves collected by SHIELD.

Major Story Arcs

Working for Agency X.

At one point, Taskmaster became a mercenary. Doing work for both Agency X, the Committee and Triune Understanding, failing most of his missions. Such missions included being hired to kill Moon Knight. This mission failed however, as he was misled with bad information. Moon Knight scared Taskmaster when he appeared immune to pain and humiliated him, but let him live. Also, in an attempt to discredit the Avengers, he failed to deceive them but the overall mission succeeded.

The Initiative's New Drill Instructor

Deadpool freed Taskmaster from his imprisonment to show his own potential as a mercenary and bested Taskmaster with his hands and feet bound. When Deadpool thanked him for letting him win, Taskmaster replied, "The truth is... you're that good. You've always been that good. Which won't get you a cup of coffee until you figure out how to be a professional..." After the Super-Human Registration Act and the Fifty State Initiative, Taskmaster reluctantly joined the Thunderbolts in hunting heroes and villains that refused to register. He attempted to shoot Invisible Woman but Mr. Fantastic took the bullet for her and, in outrage, Susan crushed him, knocking Taskmaster unconscious.

For his efforts to help the government, he was given a full presidential pardon for when he tested the defenses of the SHIELD heli-carrier, which he was able to break in and place Deputy Director Maria Hill in his sights. Though he was allowed to leave, a threatening message left in Hill's private bathroom revealed that if he ever desired, SHIELD is no difficult feat. Taskmaster also became the replacement of Gauntlet as the Drill Instructor at Camp Hammond. When KIA went on a rampage around Camp Hammond, Taskmaster decided to sit the battle out with one of his charges, Ant-Man.

Taskmaster is appointed field leader of Camp HAMMER (formerly Camp Hammond) by Norman Osborn, and assigned to train super-villains in among other things to pose as heroes should the need arise. Taskmaster once again aligned himself with Deadpool to help him against the Thunderbolts, now the personal Black Ops of Norman Osborn. Despite being enemies in the past, they worked together to escape them, all the while hitting on their leader, Black Widow.

Norman Osborn, unaware that Taskmaster had aided Deadpool (who was trying to kill Osborn), made Taskmaster head of the Initiative (with Hood there to help him). First, he got Constrictor to give Osborn good press by Constrictor showcasing his cyborg arms and saying he could never pet his dog (which was made up) and that everyone should give Osborn a chance. Then, Hood and Taskmaster presented a new Initiative with members like the U-Foes, the Psionex, Razor Blade, a Brother Grimm, Cutthroat, Vampiro, and Mandrill, as well as old members like Diamondback and Sunstreaker. Taskmaster stood by and watched apparently unphased as Hood devoured recruit Vampiro for eating people, which Hood thought could reveal the Initiative's nefarious actions.

Hood then explained to Taskmaster and Baron von Blitzlag that the Negative Zone prison created during Civil War had been overrun by aliens, and was a portal to Earth. Hood suggested that instead of using up the major Initiative members in an attack, washed-out recruits, ex-cons with a chance of freedom, and people reluctant to serving Osborn, be promised success and get tricked into being cannon fodder in an attack to wear down the enemy before the real soldiers came in. Taskmaster agreed, and created a new Shadow Initiative with many members to do the task. The Hood left the initiative and left Taskmaster in charge, which caused Norman Osborn to take him more seriously and invite him to join the Cabal.

Taskmaster at the Siege on Asgard

Taskmaster's first day in the organization did not go well as Doctor Doom decided to leave the group and attacked them to make his point. He severely burned Taskmaster with an energy attack, and as Osborn had him repaired in the hospital he realized just how in over his head he was. He took part in the Siege on Asgard, where he was convinced he was going to die, but he knew that if somehow he survived he would be known as the guy who faced down Thor and brought down the gods. He was about to be attacked by Thor when the Sentry intercepted the attack and Taskmaster joined in a group of villains as they each attacked the downed thunder god. However when the Sentry started to go insane and lose control, Taskmaster knew it was time to head out. Doing as he always did he found a way to escape, this time by stealing one of Osborn's goblin gliders, and made off with Constrictor who he convinced to join the bad guys again.

The new Taskmaster mini-series starts in Age of Heroes #3 in a short scene where Taskmaster finds himself surrounded by the Yakuza who are mentioning his new bounty. This is followed in Taskmaster #1 with the Taskmaster meeting a waitress at a diner named Mercedes. The two have a conversation where it's revealed that Taskmaster has a memory condition. It seems that the more skills the Taskmaster learns, or recalls for use in combat, the more of his memories he loses. In order to keep his most treasured memories from being overwritten he has created a "memory palace" within his mind that he fills with familiar objects or places that are connected to specific memories. In order to recall these memories he has to go to these certain places or do certain things in the real world to recall his own past experiences.

When Mercedes leaves the table he is confronted by a Hydra agent who reveals that a rather large bounty has been placed on the Taskmaster's head. A large $1,000,000,000 dollar bounty. Not only that but the Hydra agent reveals that Hydra aren't the only ones that are after him, everyone is. It seems that an organization referred to as "The Org" are the ones that put out the bounty and that this organization has connections to every major terrorist organization on the planet. This is the agency that Taskmaster has apparently been getting his orders from on the quiet since the beginning of his career as a criminal. In the middle of the conversation, Taskmaster disarms the agent just as the diner is overrun with terrorists from several different factions, whom are all after the bounty. In a show of skill, he manages to subdue all of his would be attackers while blowing the diner up in the process to send a message to those coming after him. During the fight, Mercedes manages to escape and even made her way back home. When she gets there, there are men waiting for her. It seems she was followed by others that were after Taskmaster's bounty who say they saw him slip her a note at the diner. They assumed it was something important even though it was just a recipe. Taskmaster shows up and rescues Mercedes and then reveals that the Org is now after her as well. She has no alternative but to leave with Taskmaster in order to stay alive. It is later revealed that she is Taskmaster's wife who he does not remember because of his memory condition, and that she's been staying involved in his life in order to push him toward being a good person.

Taskmaster vs. Finesse

Following a battle with Avengers Academy trainee Finesse, who has photographic reflexes just like Taskmaster's, he admits that, while he can't be certain about it, he is more than likely Finesse's father as she suspects. He confides in her that the way his abilities work, each time he picks up a new technique, it pushes non-combat-oriented data out of his mind forever; so he can't remember much about his own personal life. This is both an explanation for how he could forget having a daughter and a warning for her to heed. This follows through on new aspects of Taskmaster's character introduced recently; establishing his near-amnesiac state as canon continuity.

Marvel NOW!!

Max Fury hired Taskmaster to retrieve the Crown of Wolves for the Shadow Council. However Taskmaster decides to renegotiate, demanding more money for the job. The Secret Avengers track him to the Hole in order to get the Crown of Wolves before Max Fury. This led to a fight between Taskmaster and Agent Venom. However, Taskmaster manages to escape and give the crown to Max Fury, only for him to apparently kill Taskmaster when he asks for payment. When the crown's effects don't function for Max Fury, Taskmaster takes the crown for himself, which saves his life by making him the Avatar for the Abyss. As the Abyss spreads, the Secret Avengers members Venom and Ant-Man are able to remove the crown and stop the spread, while Taskmaster and the Masters of Evil are left behind when the Avengers leave with Max Fury in their custody.

The criminals of Bagalia imprison Taskmaster and are preparing to offer him up to the highest bidder until S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Secret Avengers come to rescue him and offer him a position. As their inside man, Taskmaster joins the new High Council of A.I.M. as the Minister of Defense. Mockingbird later sent in to A.I.M. Island to assist Taskmaster reconnect James Rhodes to the rogue Iron Patriot drones. When the mission goes south Mockingbird is left stranded and Taskmaster continues to work undercover in order to free her. However, when he gets the chance to get her off the island, she is unresponsive and they both are captured. During his interrogated, Taskmaster is shot and seemingly killed by Mockingbird, now under the control of Andrew Forson.

Civil War II and Secret Empire [Spoilers Ahead]

Taskmaster knows the world's most important secret.

Taskmaster, posing as the Sheriff of Bagalia after Hydra's rising, gets information about a big altercation between criminals and heroes in the streets and personally goes to investigate. His arrival quickly turns into a short combat in which Captain America beats Taskmaster. Later on, Taskmaster is skeptical about Captain America's intentions in Bagalia and manages to get his hands on vital and incriminating information about Steve Rogers being a Hydra Agent and along with Black Ant, attempts to sell said information to S.H.I.E.L.D Director Maria Hill. After making arrangements for the extraction, Taskmaster and Black Ant are ambushed by Elisa Sinclair, current Madame Hydra, and are forced to work as her personal bodyguards. Initially considered as traitors, Elisa made an exception and congratulated them on their audacity, ultimately making them an offer they couldn't refuse.

King in Black

Taskmaster's new Thunderbolts

During Knull's invasion of Earth, Kingpin put together a group of mercenaries and Ravencroft inmates, including human reality gem, Star, as the new Thunderbolts, a team Fisk happened to own the copyright on. They were tasked with recovering The Sentry's corpse and turning it into a bomb using Star's reality warping powers.

Their leader, Taskmaster, knew Kingpin meant for this to be a suicide mission and was given a heads up to get to safety. However, he had a change of heart and saved his team instead. They confronted Kingpin, vowing they'd stick together and remain on his payroll, when the real heroes manage to defeat Knull.

The Rubicon Trigger

Fury briefs Taskmaster

After he was framed for the death of Maria Hill, Taskmaster found himself on the receiving end of Black Widow’s rage. Nick Fury Jr. isn’t buying it though. He helps Taskmaster get off the grid in exchange for his help. Fury wants to unlock some old H.A.M.M.E.R. mainframes called the Rubicon Trigger, but it has a complicated biometric lock. It is based on kinesic signature, which is why Fury needs Taskmaster, but Tasky says videos won’t be good enough. For this job, he needs to get close in person to copy their body language. The three people are: Phil Coulson, Okoye, and Ami Han of Tiger Division.

Considering the high value of their positions, it meant hell for Taskmaster. When both Coulson and Ami Han made him, Tasky had to survive encounters with their resident supermen, Hyperion and Taegukgi, respectively. To face Okoye, he had to get through Wakanda’s entire military. And all the while, Black Widow was just a step behind him. She finally caught up to Taskmaster after he got the three codes and was back in Fury’s custody.

She was about to kill him when she was interrupted by Maria Hill, alive and well. She framed Tasky and slipped the info to Fury in order to deactivate the Rubicon Trigger, an orbital biological weapon. After the fall of SHIELD, she didn’t trust the three people who helped her to lock the weapon to work with her. However, when Taskmaster performed the body language codes, he activated the Rubicon Trigger. That way, while the rest are preoccupied with disarming it, he would be able to sneak away.

The Sinister War

Black Ant and Taskmaster were hired by The Foreigner to be part of his new Wild Pack to get revenge on Spider-Man and Ned Leeds. He blamed them for his empty bank accounts, but it was actually Silver Sable, who took back the funds he extorted from her. With Kindred's help, they track him to a graveyard and pitted against other Spider-Man rogues. Kindred announced they were all hellbound villains who could earn a spot as Kindred's assistant if they killed Spider-Man. Eventually, Doc Ock uses a piece of Black Ant's helmet to knock everyone, including Tasky, out through the ear centipedes Kindred was using to control them.

Devil's Reign

After Kingpin outlaws superheroes in New York, Taskmaster is deputized to his Thunderbolt Units , the only sanctioned superhero team in the city. Besides keeping the peace, Tasky and the Thunderbolts main mission was searching New York City for The Purple Children so that Kingpin could increase the amount of Purple Man power he was harnessing.

He and his team were able to capture all but one of the Purple Children, which was enough for Kingpin to undo the psychic blind spot that was stopping Fisk from remembering Daredevil' s true identity. Once he had the information again, he abandoned all his plans for revenge, but first cause a riot distraction by mesmerizing the Thunderbolts, including Tasky, into attacking the citizens.

He was eventually captured and imprisoned after Luke Cage beat Fisk in the election for Mayor. He attempted to escape with her fellow Thunderbolts, but Cage's new Thunderbolts, led by Hawkeye , recaptured him.

Carnage Reigns

As part of a prisoner release program, Taskmaster joined an anti-superhuman task force called the Cape Killers under Agent Gao . They are called into action when Cletus Kasady uses the Extrembiote, a combination of a symbiote dragon and the extremis virus, to turn New Yorkers into his puppets. They find themselves allied with Spider-Man (Morales) and the new Red Goblin (Normie Osborn), who can absorb symbiotes.

Unfortunately, their combined might was not enough to take on Cletus. Tasky fell from a great height after his rocket launcher backfired, taking him out of the fight.

Retribution

Capes vs Cape-Killers

In the wake of the gang war , the anti-vigilant law is repealed, effectively ending the Cape-Killers. While the wheels of bureaucracy spin, Gao gets the most out of her Cape Killers while she can. After a successful mission against a power stealer named Snatcher, Gao breaks the news to the Cape Killers that the program is being shut down and they might not get credit toward their sentence for their service. She promises to commute their sentence if they help her with a final mission: take down Spider-Man (Miles Morales).

Gao enters a reluctant deal with Rabble , allowing her to upgrade herself, Tasky, and the others. This armor should give them an edge over Spider-Man, who has managed to best them every time. Unfortunately, this armor also allows Gao to remote control the Cape Killers. When they still couldn't take out Miles, Gao took control of them and pushed them further then they could stand. Tasky cooperated anyway, but Rabble started to push him too far to force Miles' hand. Miles gets some last minute help from his friends, including Rhino and his uncle, Prowler . They keep the Cape Killers busy while he goes after Rabble to free them from Rabble and Gao's control.

Cape Killer, Gust proved most formidable when her armor forced her air aerokinesis to pull the breathable air from both the heroes and her teammates. Thankfully, Miles shut down Rabble's control over the Cape Killers in the nick of time.

When New York City is invaded by a role playing game with innate magic, called Cobolorum, Doctor Strange recruits Taskmaster for a team of Secret Defenders to stop it from warping all of reality. The only way to beat the RPG was to play by the game rules, including a game party with a "Fighter." Strange offered Tasky all the leprechaun gold he could get his hands on in exchange for his help. They ventured to the center of the reality warped landscape and the mesmerized children who had started the game, but these Defenders are stopped by Baron Mordo , who had given the game to the kids in the first place.

As the gamemaster, Mordo summoned a dragon to occupy Doctor Strange and then set a scenario where Taskmaster and Hunter's Moon were old rival enemies. While Mordo was preoccupied with them, Black Cat managed to steal the Coboloum guidebook and give it to Strange. Strange had used the dragon entity to talk directly to the sentient game, which hated Mordo but required players to live. Strange made a new deal with the game for a single player, General Strange , who was imprisoned in the Sanctum and had plenty of time on his hands to play.

Powers and Abilities

Photographic reflexes.

Taskmaster holding his own against Iron Man and Captain America.

Taskmaster has what he calls "photographic reflexes". After seeing someone perform an action once, he can perfectly copy the action. He has used this ability to copy the fighting styles and skills of many heroes and villains, mixing them up and turning them into his own style. The people he has copied styles/skills from include: Beast, Black Knight, Black Widow, Bullseye, Captain America, Cat, Daredevil, Deadpool, Elektra, Hawkeye, Hulk, Iron Fist, Mister X, Ms. Marvel, Porcupine, Photon (Genis-Vell), Puma, Punisher, Quicksilver, Razorfist, Scarlet Witch, Shang Chi, Silver Samurai, Spider-Man, Swordsman, Thing, Thor, Tigra, Toad, Vision, Wolverine, Zaran, Blazing Skull, Luke Cage, Ant-Man (Lang), Boomerang, Cable, Justice, Machete, Oddball, and Libra. (In crossovers he has learned the skills of Batman and Huntress but it is unknown if he retains them in the normal Marvel Universe). This is just a short list, but it is impressive.

There are limits to Taskmaster's mimicry.

He can only mimic actions to the extent that his body will allow. For example, he can copy the way Spider-Man fights, but can't copy his super strength. He can copy the way Daredevil moves to avoid danger, but he can't copy his radar. He can copy the fighting style of Deadpool but can't copy his unpredictability and healing factor. Copying skills doesn't give him an understanding of what is needed to do them either. He could copy a famous pianist's performance, but wouldn't be able to read sheet music. In a flashback he demonstrated something like this: when he was a child, he almost drowned after perfectly duplicating a swimmer's dive, forgetting that he couldn't swim.

Taskmaster has said that he finds Moon Knight's style of fighting annoying, as Moon Knight would rather take a punch than avoid it. To add to his abilities when he can't find someone to watch, Taskmaster uses the television. He watches movies and TV to study super-humans, athletes, stunt-men, archers, soldiers, wrestlers, etc. In this way, he has gained a wide range of combat as well as acrobatic skills including aerial acrobatics, gymnastics, boxing, martial arts (all the ones presently used and some historical ones), wrestling, swordsmanship, marksmanship, archery, car-jacking, and sleight of hand. By watching a video in fast forward, Taskmaster picked up the ability to move in "double time", giving him super speed for short periods of time. He also learned how to catch bullets during his mini-series.

Voice Mimicker

Another skill Taskmaster has that is unconnected to his photographic reflexes is his ability to mimic voices. With just a couple hours of practice, Taskmaster can fully mimic another person's voice and speech patterns, a tool he uses for impersonation and breaking voice-activated locks.

Taskmaster's UDON suit.

Taskmaster carries a wide variety of weaponry he uses to mimic the fighting styles he managed to copy along his publication. Within his most consistent and visible gear we can see: Captain America's shield, Black Knight's Sword, Daredevil's Billy Clubs and Hawkeye's Bow and Trick Arrows. All this gear along with less known objects were carried manually by Taskmaster until his first solo series in 2002 introducing a new gear, commonly known as UDON suit. He changed his outfit and devices, but most importantly, he stole a S.H.I.E.L.D. device which allowed him to create his weaponry by solidifying energy. This change proved to be very practical since he could move faster, avoid possible disarmament and utilize more weaponry in an easier way. Within the added weapons and gadgets: Wolverine's Claws and Spider-Man's Webshooters as well as a very advanced image-inducer that allows him to take on the physical appearance of whomever he sees, this last one is currently visible in Secret Avengers, used by Mockingbird.

The last time he was seen with this suit was in Avengers and Power Pack Assemble! #1 in 2006. Later on he turned back to his classic outfit once again, however, there is no concrete reason as to why this happened.

Earth-1610 (Ultimate Marvel)

Ultimate Taskmaster

Taskmaster is an African-American mercenary working for Roxxon. He ends up in a fight against Spider-Man and Jessica Drew where he manages to dominate them in combat before he is taken off the playing field by Cloak.

Earth-58163

On Earth-58163 (House of M) Taskmaster was part of the Brotherhood because he was thought to be a mutant. On one of their missions when they were sent to take out Luke Cage and the Avengers, he was to snipe Cage but ended up killing Tigra instead. When Taskmaster met up with the Avengers in the precinct he interrupted the meeting between Cage and Punisher. He then taunted Cage about Tigra's death and in a fit of rage, Cage broke every bone in his body after running through an array of attacks. Now in the hospital wrapped up like a mummy, he was abandoned by Thunderbird and Blob for not being a mutant but an enhanced human.

In this reality Taskmaster was a mutant.

Deadpool Max

MAX Taskmaster

In this Marvel Max title, Taskmaster is a woman who abducted young Wade Wilson and his entire boy/cub-scout troop; making them do terrible, though not entirely defined things for her own brand of merit badges. Deadpool is the only survivor of this group of trainees and he looks to Taskmaster as a mother figure, which prevents him from sleeping with her (which would earn him a heart-shaped merit badge, and is, apparently, Taskmaster's final test for him).

Old Man Taskmaster

On Earth-807128, Taskmaster is one of the many assassins working as US marshals for Red Skull. He was tasked with leading a squad to bring in Bullseye, after Bullseye goes rogue for the sake of hunting Hawkeye, the last superhero.

Spider-Punk (Earth-138)

In this reality, Taskmaster was largely the same. He was a mercenary employed by the fascist administration of President Norman Osborn. His skull mask bared a slight resemblance to the Misfits logo.

In the Ultimate Spider-Man , Taskmaster appears as a gym teacher hired by Dr. Octopus to go to Midtown High and learn who is standing behind the mask of Spider-Man and then get the boy to Dr. Octopus.Taskmaster makes a test to see who is the best at gym and who can possibly be Spider-Man. His three choices are Danny Rand, Harry Osborn and Flash Thompson, but in the end he understands that Spider-Man is none of them and has to fight him and White Tiger. He is defeated but he manages to escape.

He returns in "Ultimate Deadpool", where Deadpool attempts to wipe out his mercenary training school. He appears as a recurring antagonist in Season 3, where he assembles his own team of teen supervillains known as the Thunderbolts.

Clancy Brown reprises his role in the Avengers Assemble episode "Show Your Work" and the Avengers: Black Panther's Quest episode "Mask of the Panther."

Taskmaster has a cameo in Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher .

  • Taskmaster appears as one of the antagonists in Heroes United: Iron Man And Captain America, voiced by Clancy Brown. In the movie, he is one of the major villains and the Red Skull's main trigger man. Visually, he resembles his UDON counterpart.

Taskmaster in the film

  • Taskmaster appears as one of the main antagonists of the 2021 Black Widow film, portrayed by Olga Kurylenko when unmasked. Like in the comics, Taskmaster possesses the ability to mimic the fighting styles of various superheroes, and displays techniques copied from Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Black Panther, the Winter Soldier and Spider-Man. This version of Taskmaster is the Red Room's silent enforcer, and is dispatched to take out Black Widow and Yelena Belova after they embark on a quest to free the other members of the Black Widow program. Taskmaster remains masked for most of the film, with the third act finally revealing that the character is actually (in a major departure from the comics) Antonia Dreykov , a young girl who was thought to have been killed many years ago by Natasha. She was subsequently rebuilt as a cyborg assassin by her father.
  • Taskmaster returns as a member of the Thunderbolts.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Taskmaster challenges guide

With the PlayStation 5 release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales including a remastered version of the base game, which is also available on PC, there’s never been a better excuse to return to the open world of Marvel’s Spider-Man . If you’re looking to really test your spider skills, the toughest are the challenges set up by a bad guy known as the Taskmaster. Supposedly used to test Spider-Man’s abilities in an elaborate attempt to defeat him, these mini-games offer an important reward: Challenge Tokens — a currency used for some of Spidey’s equipment upgrades and new suit purchases. That means you’ll want to complete the Taskmaster’s jobs, and what’s more, you’ll want to be good at them.

Speed is always key

Bring the right loadouts for the job, get some tokens and come back, bomb challenges, combat challenges, stealth challenges, drones challenges, facing off against taskmaster.

Taskmaster Challenges have three tiers: Amazing (bronze), Spectacular (silver), and Ultimate (gold). The Amazing tier earns you one token, the Spectacular rewards two, and you get a total of three tokens for achieving Ultimate. This means doing well can reward you with a bunch of key tokens at once. Getting those Golds is a serious undertaking though, requiring pitch-perfect fighting and swinging on Spider-Man’s part. We’ve put together some tips and tricks for completing each of the Taskmaster’s challenge types so you can shortcut the grind to Gold and get your upgrades quicker.

  • 9 essential tips and tricks for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • The ultimate guide to Marvel’s Spider-Man: Combat, suits, and mods
  • How to unlock every suit in Spider-Man

The one most important criterion on which you’re judged in Taskmaster Challenges is speed. Whether you’re beating down enemies, stealthing through a hideout, chasing drones, or defusing bombs, it’s all about how fast you can finish the task. Other elements play into your score as well, but your primary goal should be finishing each one as fast as you can.

Each of the challenges you face in Spider-Man falls into a specific category, and requires different sets of skills. For the Combat and Stealth challenges, in particular, it’s possible to customize Spider-Man’s loadout to give you the best possible chances of success. We talked about in our combat, suits, and mods guide how equipping certain mods and powers, like the Stealth Suit’s Blur ability or any of the damage-focused suit powers, can give you a serious edge in completing challenges. Often the difference between Amazing or Spectacular ranks, or Spectacular and Ultimate, is just a few points — so equip an awesome suit power and crash through the barrier.

You don’t need Gold on every single challenge to buy all the Spider suits, mods, and equipment upgrades available in Marvel’s Spider-Man , but you do need it on a bunch of them. As we covered in our Marvel’s Spider-Man review , there are lots of suits and upgrades to buy, after all. You’ll get major advantages for completing different Taskmaster Challenges as you level up and buy new upgrades. As mentioned above, having a combat-specific suit or an upgraded favorite gadget can give you a serious edge, so if you find yourself having a tough time, quit and come back. There are a bunch out there — some being easier than others — but you can go back and finish them after completing Spider-Man’s story. It pays to work through challenges a few times, especially if it involves swinging. Getting familiar with the part of the city where a challenge takes place and finding the best way to get around can help you get a win, even if your swinging skills aren’t quite Spider-like. Preparation helps! So take your time.

Prioritize your targets

We mentioned before that Taskmaster Challenges are all about speed and Bomb Challenges fit the mold. For each one, you’ll have multiple bombs to defuse as fast as you can. The first thing you’ll need to do is identify the closest bomb and the best path to get there. You’ll need to get to each one as quickly as possible, so keeping swings relatively low is key. Most importantly, start planning a route that’s quickest to each bomb, and don’t be afraid to redo the challenge a few times to try different options. Those Challenge tokens are worth the extra effort.

Bomb runs are all about accurate landings

While both Bomb Challenges and Drone Challenges are about speedy swinging, they’re also both about different forms of accuracy. One of the places where you can lose time defusing bombs is in actually getting to the locations. Swinging too high as you come in or landing too far away from a bomb can slow you down just enough to miss the gold medal. Spidey tends to roll with momentum or bounce onto objects that can mess with your ability to grab a bomb and throw it as soon as you land. You really need to stick the landings as you come in. Try landing as close as possible to a bomb so you can quickly grab it as soon as you hit the ground. You’ll also want to avoid launching yourself too high since coming down from a swing arc can take a long time. Precise landings will save you precious seconds.

Wail on the webs when destroying bombs

There’s a quick and not very obvious way to snag extra points on bomb runs. Whenever you throw a bomb, hit the web button as fast as you can to fire as many webs as possible at it. Just pound away on that trigger to get the highest score as fast as you can. Each hit scores a few extra points though speed is the deciding factor, but every little bit helps.

Go nuts on gadgets during combat challenges

Another one of the Taskmaster Challenges involves combat and just like the previous runs, speed is what you’ll be judged on. Avoiding damage is paramount, as is blasting enemies as quickly as you can. A good way to accomplish both those goals is to go hard on using your gadgets. Impact webs, trip line traps, and web bombs can quickly web up enemies. If you knock them into walls, they can be defeated instantly. Gadgets restore as you finish off enemies so don’t be afraid to use everything you’ve got. Since webbing enemies to structures is much faster than punching them, try relying on throws and environmental placement to eliminate guys quickly.

High health is essential for the win

Another way you’re judged in combat challenges is by Spidey’s health. Avoid taking hits to score the most points and ideally, you want to avoid taking any damage at all. This means dodging is paramount as you fight. Annihilate enemies as fast as you can but fight well so you don’t get hit. Prioritize eliminating enemies with guns and rockets as they’re usually easy to pin against walls with webs and they’re likely to give you the most problems.

The trick to stealth is combo takedowns

When it comes to stealth challenges, you definitely want to knock it out with speed. What you’ll also find out is that the game is tracking your combos and higher combos mean a better score. In combat, the combo count refers to consecutive hits you’ve landed on enemies without taking damage. In stealth situations, combos are the number of guys you take down within a few seconds of one another. Basically, it means you want to chain your takedowns — don’t just knock out an enemy then move on to the next one. Instead, position yourself in a way that you can take out an enemy and quickly web strike over to another, repeating the process quickly. Chaining takedowns is tough because you need to keep from being spotted, and you’ll need to know which enemies are vulnerable and when. You get a higher score if you can get lots of guys more or less at once so keep your eyes open for opportunities to get enemies relatively close together.

Check your speed

The one Taskmaster Challenge where speed is less of a factor is the Drone Challenges. Chasing the drone too closely can ruin your chances of succeeding and more important than speed in these jobs is accuracy. Since you need to swing through the spy cameras the drone drops to grab them you’ll have to balance keeping up with the drone as much as possible but not without prioritizing information or accuracy.

Don’t swing too high

The Drone Challenge is another situation where overdoing it on swing height can work against you. Generally, you want to check your swings in the middle to propel you forward because high arcing swings can carry you too far past where you need to go. It can also cause you to float in the air for a long time resulting in lost ground and precious seconds. In fact, while you might spend most of the game using Swing Jumps (hitting X at the end of a swing) for speed and height, in Drone Challenges it’s actually a little easier to be accurate if you don’t jump in most swings. If you need to slow down use Point Launches to get your bearings and move forward with increased accuracy.

Keep your streak going

Drone challenges dish out bonuses based on streaks. In this case, it’s the number of cameras you snag without missing one. Obviously, you need to grab all the cameras for gold-level scores but you want to take care to check that you got them all on the first pass as this will rack up a combo that gives bonus points. Missing a camera and breaking a streak is usually a good enough reason to start a challenge over again.

As you’re completing his challenges, Taskmaster will eventually show up to face you directly on the map. He will come out of nowhere, so you need to be on your toes when this deadly merc decides to challenge you face to face. This happens two times: first after you complete five of his challenges, and the final time after finishing all 16 challenges. Taskmaster is one of the most difficult bosses in the game, maybe even harder than the story bosses. The first time you fight is a little easier, but the same advice applies to both.

First, dodging will be your best friend. Taskmaster is super aggressive and can drain your health in a matter of hits, so staying agile will keep you in the fight. Also, normal attacks will seldom land on him, but if you can perfectly dodge his attacks you can sneak in a few hits.

Don’t forget to use the environment to your advantage. You’ll need to use every trick in Spider-Man’s arsenal here, so look out for objects you can web up and throw at Taskmaster. It won’t hurt him much, but will open him up to a follow-up combo. If you run out of things to hurl at him, just take the fight somewhere else. He’ll chase you down so don’t feel limited to fighting wherever you are.

In terms of gadgets, the spider drones worked best for us. They can give you a moment to back off and use your focus to heal up. Speaking of which, that’s all you should be using your focus on for this fight.

Aside from blocking any direct attack, don’t bother trying to web up this boss. He will shrug off your shots like paper. This is a battle of attrition. If you stay defensive, time your dodges, and only go in when he’s vulnerable, you’ll come out on top.

There is no shortage of collectibles to gather and activities to do in Spider-Man 2. From photo-ops to Prowler Stashes, the map is filled with icons showing you where to go to find just about anything you need. One thing that isn't marked on your map, however, is a very special collectible for Miles Morales. This isn't required for any specific quest, and won't give you any XP, but it does reward you with the Just Let Go trophy that is necessary if you want to get the coveted Platinum trophy. With no clues as to where to find this tiny science trophy on the massive New York map, you could spend hours swinging around looking. Instead, we'll show you exactly where to look so you can check this trophy off your list. How to get the Just Let Go trophy

The science trophy we're looking for is in the southern part of the Financial District on a church. The exact location can be seen above, but the church itself is impossible to miss once you're in the area. When you reach the church, climb up onto the roof behind the main steeple and look up at the small balcony running around it. If you're close enough, you will see the small white circle indicating that there's something you can interact with there.

Peter Parker has had a hard life. He was orphaned by his parents as a child and raised by his caring Aunt May and Uncle Ben, only for Ben to be killed in an act that would shape Spider-Man's entire philosophy as a hero. Things only get worse during the events of the first act of Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 as Aunt May is tragically killed as well, leaving Peter with no more true parental figures. Peter hasn't forgotten all his caring aunt and uncle have done for him, and if you can find their gravesite, he will pay them respect, as well as earn you a Trophy. It's a big graveyard, though, and their site isn't marked on the map. Here's where Uncle Ben and Aunt May's graves are located in Spider-Man 2. How to find Aunt May and Uncle Ben's graves

The graveyard is located at the most-northeastern point on the New York map in Harlem. If you have unlocked fast travel in this district, you can warp almost directly to the spot. Once in the graveyard, go forward down the middle into the open field. You might spot Mile's father's grave first. May and Ben's graves are directly to the right of that.

In the decades that the character of Spider-Man has existed, through comics, TV shows, games, and movies, he's gone through quite a few suits. Spider-Man 2 keeps the tradition alive by not only giving him a new suit to try out, but dozens and dozens of older ones to let you play as your favorite version of the webslinger. Oh, and did we mention Miles has his own extensive set of suits as well? Just like the first game, you won't be handed the keys to the wardrobe for free. Each suit not only needs to be unlocked but also crafted using City and Hero Tokens, as well as Tech parts to get access to the additional styles most suits have. If you're itching to dress up as the Spider-Man of your dreams as soon as you can, here is every suit in Spider-Man 2 and how you unlock them.

Note: Some suits are unlocked via story progress and could be considered spoilers. You have been warned. All suits in Spider-Man 2

What is the Taskmaster's sword made up of?

In the TV series Ultimate Spider-Man season 3 also known as Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors when Taskmaster fights Spider-Man he has a glowing sword. Is it a normal sword or is it made of energy or light (like a lightsaber)? What is this sword made up of?

A " photogenic energy sword ", according to the PS4 game Marvel's Spider-Man .

enter image description here

  • 1 Of course, in reality photogenic just means " producing or emitting light" , so the explanation actually tells us nothing that we don't already know. –  Valorum Commented Jul 8, 2021 at 21:23
  • 2 Taskmaster Vol 1 #2 (2002) had him playing with a SHIELD energy generator thingy; i.sstatic.net/GO98f.jpg . Not sure if they're related though. –  Valorum Commented Jul 8, 2021 at 21:29
  • I was just about to answer with the SHIELD energy generator. The colour is the same and they appear to act mostly the same, I think we can presume it is at least the inspiration for the sword. –  TheLethalCarrot ♦ Commented Jul 8, 2021 at 21:37
  • 4 @TheLethalCarrot - I can think of at least one more inspiration for a glowing energy sword. –  Valorum Commented Jul 8, 2021 at 22:07
  • The in universe basis for it was probably better wording. –  TheLethalCarrot ♦ Commented Jul 8, 2021 at 22:28

If I had to guess, taskmaster had a shield which was made of pure energy and his sword looks very similar to it, so I’d probs says his sword is almost pure energy. He used one of these https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Energy_Shield and as mentioned, it has been depicted to look very similar to the sword here https://i.sstatic.net/GO98f.jpg

It’s fitting as the shield could “copy” or mimic things like caps shield, so it would also be fitting that his sword could do the same.

  • 1 Welcome to SFF! Can you add a source for the shield (spoiler, it's mentioned in the comments on the other answer) to flesh this out a bit more and add a bit more supporting evidence for it? –  TheLethalCarrot ♦ Commented Jul 9, 2021 at 11:23
  • I didn't include the shield because it's from a different continuity. Also, the sword erupts from a pommel whereas the energy shield comes from a wrist-mounted device. Similar but not the same. –  Valorum Commented Jul 9, 2021 at 12:25

I hope this isnt true.
I have heard you dont need to gold anything to unlock all the suits, provided you havnt spent challenge tokens on many gadget upgrades.

I would assume this was correct.
You could also save-scum your Tokens to get both Trophies.

That said, I Golded every Stealth and Bomb and Silvered every Drone and Combat and was able to get every Gadget upgrade and every suit. There were like 5 or 6 Suit Mods I was unable to purchase, but I got the ones I wanted.

Originally posted by ShockerCyclone : I've really been enjoying the game but the taskmaster challenges are kind of nuts. It feels like you barely have enough time to do them and in the end all you get is xp. I know you get challenge tokens but I'm not really using tokens on anything. Are they worth the aggravation if I don't need the tokens?

I've Completely Changed My Mind About David Corenswet’s Superman Costume

Dc’s is finally releasing the replacement for the best batman show i've wanted for 16 years, dc's new batman is delivering the dream rogues gallery the movies never have.

  • Archery expert Jim Kent critiques Taskmaster's unrealistic arrow technique in Black Widow.
  • Taskmaster's return in Thunderbolts offers potential for redemption and better fight choreography.
  • Realistic combat understanding could improve MCU scenes, with Thunderbolts learning from Black Widow's criticism.

A new video from an archery expert has taken Taskmaster to task after her appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Black Widow . Jim Kent, a traditional archer, was featured in a Business Insider video where he critiqued the accuracy of several archers in movies and television, rating each clip and provided commentary on technique and realism within the scene. With the MCU's movie roster being a cornerstone of recent action movies, Black Widow 's Taskmaster was featured in this video, shown firing exploding arrows during a city chase. Interestingly, this part of the MCU timeline scored relatively low.

On YouTube , Kent gave the scene a score of 4 out of 10, noting that " bows don't do that... I can’t think of a plausible way that would ever work, " before at least ceding that it looked cool. While looking exciting, Kent explained that much of the bow technique was unrealistic. The tension on the bowstrings, the way it was being held, and how difficult it would be to use while wearing the villain's mask made the scene seem unbelievable to the expert. Notably, Kent found using ballistic arrows and the ability to bounce one off the ground more realistic:

How Thunderbolts Can Redeem Taskmaster Being Wasted In Black Widow

Black Widow was not an especially beloved Marvel film, and is even considered by some to be the worst female-led Marvel movie or show . While there is nothing especially offensive about the film, the underwhelming use of a threat like Taskmaster is emblematic of its larger issue, which is that Black Widow missed the mark on some of its most exciting prospects. With the incredible ability to replicate the fighting styles of basically anyone, the villain should have been a formidable foe. Instead, she featured relatively little in the movie, and wasn't able to show her full skills.

However, Taskmaster is intended to return in Thunderbolts* , and the MCU has the chance to redeem multiple villains in that film. While that may be a tall ask for a new ensemble, The Avengers was certainly successful in making underexplored heroes quickly feel necessary, and there is hope that Taskmaster's next performance will allow her to be elevated. Most important to this would be good fight choreography for the film, which would allow Taskmaster's abilities to be explored in an effective way and for a more extended amount of time.

Understanding how realistic a movie scene is does not necessarily impact the efficacy of the scene. However, little of Taskmaster's appearance in Black Widow seemed successful, and the unbelievable reality of these scenes may be a part of that. Committing to a genuine and realistic understanding of how combat functions could thus allow these scenes to look and feel better onscreen in each Marvel Cinematic Universe project, meaning hopefully, Thunderbolts * learns from the criticism aimed towards Black Widow .
