Subgroup Control Key Holding down the Ctrl key while issuing an order only gives the order to the highlighted subgroup. This feature is very handy for using concentrated firepower and moving Heroes into and out of battle without breaking your selection. This key must be enabled in the options menu: Options --> Gameplay --> Subgroup Order modifier key;!
Bypassing Formations When a group of units is given the Move command, they will all move in formation, occasionally pausing along the way to let slower units move into position to maintain the integrity of the formation. If you instead want the units to move to a location at best possible speed, you may hold down the Alt button while right-clicking on their destination.

Custom Hotkeys Guide

  • Definitions

There are over 50 Hotkeys spread across the keyboard in WC3, and with the Default Hotkeys Setup each race is different. The main ones are the Spell & Action Commands in the bottom corner like: A for Attack, B for Build, F for farm, P for Peon, M for Move, and many more for each unit and spell. Other Hotkeys include Unit # Grouping Modifiers (Ctrl, shift, tab, etc), and the Inventory Items (on the Numpad).

The more you move the mouse to click those Command icons, the less your focusing on your Unit Micro. This guide will help improve increase your APM (Actions Per Minute) accuracy and efficiency with Customkeys.txt and AHK. This is NOT considered cheating or hacking.

Alternate Spell & Action Commands [ edit ]

In the example image above, you can see how Improved Hotkeys differ from other common setups. Most people know the Grid Align Setup but, I do not like those because it sets the spells to ZXCV. I fixed it around so the spells are now QWER, Attack/Stop/Hide remain A/S/D and move is Z (for Zurround!) it's the same for every race, hero and units, great for playing random! This way is more like LoL or HotS with unit spells closer to the # keys, and it works well with inventory item switcher too

You can get these Customkeys.txt here from the Download button on Pastebin between raw and embed, right-click choose Save As make sure to place it in your Documents\Warcraft III\CustomKeyBindings\ folder  -OR-  C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\  depending on your version, and in the WC3 game Options menu click Enable Custom Keyboard Shortcuts

Compatibility with Custom Games might not be 100% for DotA try this

CustomKeys Generator [ edit ]

There is also a generator for hero und unit hotkeys only , which can be found here

Inventory Items & Other Hotkeys [ edit ]

Since WC3 is a bit older, some of the Hotkeys were ignored and left out from Customkeys.txt so you have to use something like AutoHotkey for Inventory Items, it's the same as Warkey but lets you swap ANY key, swap inventory hotkeys so T = TownPortal G = Potion etc, also disables WinKey or Alt+QQ from closing game, and NumLock pauses the Script on/off for chat.

Read instructions carefully: First install AHK from Autohotkey.com its quick and easy. Copy my TXT script over to a new AHK file, or download and rename to .AHK instead of .TXT then place it in your WC3 folder and create shortcut on desktop, right-click on shortcut properties to Run as Admin. You should probably get Customkeys.txt first.

  • Inventory Items .AHK script set to TYGHBN
  • Or alternative Inventory Keys set to Alt+QWEASD
  • Another set instead of Numlock use F5 to Pause
  • Or use Spacebar or Shift instead of Alt (just edit lines near bottom of script)

AHK can do a lot of cool things like swap mouse buttons too, helps if you have a multi-button mouse. My favorite is swap Ctrl with the Spacebar, I left this as optional incase some people didn't want it, but you just have to go to the bottom of the AHK script and edit the following lines

  • Xbutton2::Numpad7 <--(extra mouse button)
  • MButton::Tab <--(middle mouse button)
  • Space::Ctrl (just read the last few lines of the script)
  • Theres even some "QuickChat" msgs if you press the Numpad #s in game

An even easier way to rebind the inventory hotkeys is to use the W3Champions launcher which provides a customisable menu for this task (the launcher must be kept running in the background, however).

Tips on Unit Group Formations [ edit ]

Positioning techniques are vital to winning battles. Microing in small narrow areas is not easy, if Ranged units are infront or blocking Melee units, you could lose to a weaker army. Auto-Formation (Alt+F) can be switched Off/On. Most players keep Formation Off so units move faster across the map. If you have Formation On you will not be able to retreat as quickly, but Formation is helpful at certain points of attack.

It's better to attack creeps from a distance, pull them back to reduce HP loss and prevent creepjacks.

You must manually set your Group #keys using Ctrl. Always add units and buildings to a # when constructing. You can use the building #s to train units while attacking or creeping, without moving the screen back to your base.

Every player Groups their units differently. Some people use the F1-F3 keys to select their heros, other players set their heros to a #. Here are some common methods for # Groups:

Thats just a general idea, use what you feel comfortable with. With over 12 in one group, combine some or change it up depending on strat and army size. Try different variations, but never mix melee with siege. You can also use 4 as air and 5 as siege, but thats a lot of keys and you probably don't need that many groups.

Extras [ edit ]

To complete the set, I created a list of all other hotkeys

Heres a detailed guide on basics for beginners

And for fun, the history of WarCraft

If you have any questions please contact me on Reddit and I'll try to help, I know some people don't like switching hotkeys but, just give it a few days of practice to sink in I hope these help glhf :)

Warcraft 3 Reforged: How to change keyboard shortcuts

Warcraft III: Reforged will be available in a couple of hours. While most PvE players are happy with the game's basic keyboard shortcuts, some competitive players like to be able to change them at will. Here's how to do this.

Warcraft 3 Reforged: How to change keyboard shortcuts

Warcraft III: Reforged will be live at 3PM PT . Whether you want to play PvE or PvP, reassigning your keys could well be important (useful for the Campaign from the Difficult mode, and indispensable in PvP, of course). Unfortunately, the game, even in its new version, doesn't allow you to do this directly in its menus at the moment. As mentioned during the various interviews with the developers, they have this feature in mind but have not made it a priority.

A problem then arises: if you want to go and play in a LAN with your own modified shortcuts, you'll have to bring them yourself, via USB key. But first of all, here are the steps to follow to modify them on your own PC.

How to change your keyboard shortcuts

  • First of all, go to your "Start" menu and type customkeys in the search field
  • Open the file
  • Each action whose shortcut can be modified is listed as below (for example, the shortcut for the move is basic the M key, or the build menu for the Orc race is B)
  • Then find in the text file the line you are interested in (use Ctrl+F to search for a specific word if necessary) and modify the assigned command.

Warcraft 3: Reforged

Of course, you won't assign the same key to several actions, at least not for the same race. The text file won't give you a warning, but your game experience will necessarily suffer, so be careful

Once this file has been modified and saved, all you have to do is activate the "Custom" shortcuts on the game. To do this, go to the "Options" menu and select the "Shortcuts" drop-down menu. Switch from " Classic " to " Custom " and that's it!

If you need to go in a LAN party and use a PC that is not yours, you will have to import this text file every time you change machines, and replace the existing one (don't forget to reactivate the option in the menu of course).

ESL and Dreamhack have announced their competitive circuits for Starcraft 2, CS:GO, and for the Warcraft 3 remaster, Warcraft 3 Reforged. A $200,000 cash prize will be awarded to the winner, as well as the World Champion title.

Easy Guide: Warcraft 3 Reforged Customkeys Download (2020)

Warcraft 3 reforged customkeys download: easy guide (2020).

While many different tools exist to use hotkeys for WC3 and Dota 1, the most are broken, so I created this ultimate resource: This article is the only resource you will ever need. 😉

It basically works the same for classic WC3 and for Reforged.

Let’s start: You should be able to setup everything in under 5 minutes!

Ultimate Warcraft 3 Customkeys Guide

Chapter 1: Why do I need Customkeys for Warcraft 3?

Let’s put some light on this question and highlight the real game-changing benefits you can gain to improve your skill, APM and overall flexibility in Dota 1 and Warcraft 3 !

What are Warcraft 3 Customkeys?

Yes Customkeys are key to victory! But hey first of all, for all new players and to shut down any confusion: What are Customkeys for WC3?

Custom hotkeys change the key that you need to press for a specific spell, build or command in Warcraft 3 to the desired location, whether it’s on your keyboard, numpad or even a numerous key on your gaming mouse (new gaming mouses often got 5-10 extra keys!) 😉

These Customkeys can be a small tool, script or text file called Customkeys.txt that has to be placed in the Warcraft 3 files to make it running! Unfortunately, the Warcraft textfile is not capable of switching item hotkeys, but the cool thing is: This guide helps you to make this happen! 😉

Why Customkeys are important in Warcraft 3?

You need it because the standard warcraft 3 hotkeys are spread all over the keyboard, for example: with a human worker “build” is on b and “lumber mill” is on l – this makes it really hard to play games on a high level!

Unfortunately, our good old lovely Warcraft 3 does not have any smart solution to edit these internally inside the game. But because of the high request of Warcraft 3 ladder players and Dota 1 gamers, tons of solutions grew up to exactly match this issue ! Help is here guys, enjoy! 😉

Chapter 2: Which Customkeys options do I have?

The problem here is that they always act in the grey zone and it’s important that Blizzard is not treating the tool as a hack. But by updating their policy and compatibility with each patch, these tools often stop working. Check the table to make the right choice! 😉

List of all Warcraft 3 Customkeys Options:

So what you will get here, is a list of all hotkey tools that are available. Some are outdated and will not work fluently anymore with the new Warcraft 3 Patches .

I recommend to use the solution in Chapter 3, that means a Customkeys.txt ready to download file in combination with an AHK (Autohotkey Tool) script for the item hotkeys . That’s easy! 😉

For everyone else who want to discover the old library, here are all the Warcraft 3 hotkey tools I have ever added in the past years:

WC3 Hotkey Tools I recommend nowadays:

Chapter 3: Step by Step Customkey + Itemkey Installation

You have two options one super simple customkeys copy for perfect keys (solution 1) or customkeys+item hotkeys (solution 2).

I recommend the second solution, so that you get the perfect setup for your game. 😉

Solution 1: Simple Customkeys.txt Download

QWER Customkeys for Warcraft 3

Warcraft 3 Customkeys.txt Download:

Dota 1 customkeys.txt download:.

For WC3 Reforged (OneDrive users): C:\Users\username\OneDrive\Documents\Warcraft III Beta\CustomKeyBindings

Warcraft 3 Hotkeys Installation

  • That’s it! Restart Warcraft 3 and test the Customkeys in a custom game! 😉

Tip: Whenever a new Warcraft 3 Reforged patch gets released , check if your Customkeys are still working. You can find a list of all WC3 Reforged patches here .

Solution 2: Customkeys + Item Hotkeys for Warcraft 3 / Dota 1:

To get the full control over all hotkeys in Warcraft 3 a supporting tool is necessary to bring all modern features into the game. With Autohotkey any combination can be switched and configurated. Follow the steps below to simply set up Warcraft 3 item hotkeys .

  • First of all complete solution 1 to profit from the basic Warcraft 3 customkeys. Then you are ready to add item hotkeys.
  • Unzip the AHK tool and install the software on your computer.

Warcraft 3 Customkeys AHK File Download:

Run the Warcraft 3 AHK Item Hotkeys

  • Extra Tip: Create a Shortcut on your desktop, so you don’t have to move to your WC3 folder everytime. Place it next to your Warcraft 3 launch button, so you will never forget to activate the item hotkeys. I also found this windows startup tutorial (external) to that you can add the AHK script to the windows autostart (it will be active automatically). 😉

That’s everything you need! For questions comment below and if you need more commands for the AHK scripts, read on! 😉

Chapter 4: How can I make changes to the Warcraft 3 Hotkeys and Item Keys?

If you want to make changes to single keys you can use the following tips & tricks!

1. How to Change Single Hotkeys in the Customkeys.txt File?

I do not recommend doing this, it would be against the pattern: If everything is simply based on QWER-ASDF-YXCV why would you change something?

It’s better to let it how it is, to profit from the files we provide, so that they will always be the same if we update them and you download them again . 😉

If you still want to make single changes, for example to change they key for moving/surround, I recommend to use one of the tools from above like Warkeys. While Warkeys and the other tools nowadays sometimes produce error codes, a simple setup of a QWER pattern is quite simple and can be done in 2 minutes.

Warcraft Hotkey Pattern QWER

  • Finally just click the button “Save to Customkeys.txt” and replace the file in your Warcraft 3 path. That’s it! 😉

2. How to change Single Inventory Hotkeys in the AHK File?

Having the item slots on specific keys on the mouse or keyboard is an often requested question ! It’s super easy to do, just follow these 3 steps:

How to edit WC3 Item Keys

Chapter 5: Are there more Options or Quick Commands?

The Autohotkey tool with the AHK scripts is incredibly powerful and can be even extended to set everything you want inside Warcraft 3 on binds!

Simplify your daily WC3 experience and get faster in everything!

Inventory Hotkeys?

is it possible to change my inventory hotkeys in reforged? I know its possible to change all other hotkeys via customkeys.txt

you can change the inventory keys using a keyboard tool called AHK, you can find instructions on how to set the inventory to TYGHBN just click right here:

:frowning:

even if Blizz were to implement a UI for customizing your hotkeys, it still wont be as customizable as with AHK, because AHK can do a lot more than the default-builtin hotkey editor that games like SCr/SC2 have. Plus my guide automatically sets everything up for you so you dont have to waste several hours doing everything manually.

the default Grid setup in WC3 puts all your spells on ZXCV but thats dumb IMO i prefer having spells on QWER so its less reaching for Ctrl+# keys

not sure why anybody would be against using the method in my guide, it works perfectly its quick to setup literally thousands of people use it and it makes your hands more comfortable while you play… at least give them a test try before dismissing them

The 7 best Android keyboard apps for quick and accurate typing

  • Gboard leads the pack with integrated Google Translate and quirky emojis, perfect for Android users seeking a feature-rich keyboard.
  • SwiftKey offers an alternative with a learning design that adapts to your typing habits, supporting multiple languages and ample themes.
  • Typewise stands out as a unique option with a game to boost typing skills and hexagonal keys for comfortable typing, ideal for heavy phone typers.

When it comes to tactile feedback, nothing beats a mechanical keyboard. However, virtual keyboards have advantages. In this regard, Google's Gboard is at the top of its class . It offers customization options and features to support your typing experience.

Still, the Play Store is home to solid competition. Some focus on simplicity with clean design and minimalist features for smartphones. Others aim to improve your writing with grammar corrections and predictive text. Many of the keyboards on our list include layouts designed for bigger screens on the best Android tablets , so you won't miss out. Discover the best Android keyboard apps on the Google Play Store.

Google's all-in-one keyboard

Gboard is installed on many Android devices by default, but it's the best keyboard app available for those who don't have it (or for iOS users). Gboard's array of features includes integrated Google Translate and quirky Emoji Kitchen stickers. If you're looking for a good keyboard app with plenty of power under the hood, Gboard should be your first choice.

Google's keyboard app supports voice input, handwriting, and gesture typing. It's perfect if you use an Android phone with stylus support, like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. But some people might find its wealth of features unnecessary, as their shortcuts take up screen space.

Microsoft's AI-powered keyboard

For those who enjoy Gboard's functionality but want a change, the Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard is a perfect alternative. It's designed to learn how you type and pick up slang and nicknames so that it doesn't badger you with constant autocorrections. It takes some time to understand your writing, but it's ideal if you constantly deny autocorrect suggestions.

Beyond this, SwiftKey has everything you expect from a smart keyboard. It has emoji and GIF search, multiple themes, and support for more than 700 languages. Unlike Gboard, its translation tools aren't powered by Google Translate but are still adequate.

Keyboard for grammar nerds

Grammarly is one of the best Google Chrome extensions , and its keyboard app is as valuable. Think of it as a personal dictionary. Grammarly checks your writing anywhere you type through its keyboard app — whether it's on Android, Windows, or your iPhone — from Facebook posts to outreach emails. While it's handy for catching odd spelling errors, its writing suggestions and word predictions help you spruce up your sentences as you type.

The Grammarly keyboard is short on new features beyond its writing tools. It has an emoji keyboard, but that's about it. If you ignore most of Gboard's features and don't care about GIFs, Grammarly might be the perfect keyboard for you. Even if you don't have Grammarly Premium, it offers more English writing advice than the other apps on this list.

Keyboard for hipsters

The most unconventional keyboard on this list, Typewisee, has a built-in game that teaches you how to use the keyboard. It has some significant differences from most keyboard apps, notably its hexagonal keys and non-QWERTY keyboard layouts.

Typewise requires a couple of weeks at minimum to get your typing speed up to speed. However, after training your thumbs, you may find this the most comfortable keyboard you've ever used. It's not for everyone, but it can be a lifesaver if you do a lot of typing on your phone. It's also handy for phones with a large screen, like the Google Pixel 7 Pro .

AnySoftKeyboard

The open source keyboard.

AnySoftKeyboard is one of the best open source apps for Android . Its straightforward keyboard layout means there isn't a learning curve after switching from your own keyboard, and you won't miss out on popular keyboard features. AnySoftKeyboard supports multi-touch input, multi-language support, swipe-typing, dynamic theming, and one-handed mode.

We like AnySoftKeyboard because of its simplicity. It's perfect for those who want a no-nonsense keyboard app. Being open source is the cherry on top , as there aren't many decent open source Android keyboards, especially since the closure of OpenBoard.

Simple Keyboard

The minimalist keyboard.

Simple Keyboard does what it says on the label: it prioritizes typing and accessibility. It doesn't have GIFs, emojis, or Swype typing. However, you can customize a few things, such as theme and keyboard height. Other than that, it's a keyboard for minimalists.

Get this if you want a keyboard that doesn't bother you with a raft of unnecessary features. Simple Keyboard is part of the Simple App family, which includes some of the best apps available for Android users. If you enjoy Simple Keyboard's minimalist theme, try out the rest.

Fonts Keyboard

The creative keyboard.

Sometimes, you want to have fun. That's where Fonts Keyboard comes in. It's not as obnoxious as the garish emoji-heavy keyboards that litter the Play Store, but it's sillier than the other apps on this list. Switching between fonts through a swipeable menu allows you to change in seconds.

It's a little gimmicky and doesn't offer as many features as it should, but it's a fun change from the serious Android keyboards. Compatibility isn't perfect, so you may notice errors when an app encounters an unknown symbol. However, for the most part, it works without issue.

Best keyboards for Chromebooks in 2024

Find (and download) the android keyboard that works best for you.

There's a keyboard app for everyone, but finding the one that works best takes time. We recommend using a new keyboard app for at least a week because it takes time to use the new app efficiently, especially in the case of apps like Typewise. Don't be discouraged because the keyboard feels awkward to use at first.

Another change you can make to shake up your Android experience is installing one of the best Android launchers instead of your default.
