Business.org’s 5 best business cell phone plans

At&t: best full-featured plans.

Looking for a broad choice of bells and whistles? As a telecom behemoth, AT&T has plenty of cell phone features and packages to offer a business—around 20 plan variations, small to large. All plans include free US roaming, unlimited talk, and text messages, as well as unlimited texting outside of the country. Basic features like call forwarding, voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, and conference calling also come standard with all AT&T business cell phone plans, along with bring-your-own-phone support.

Business Unlimited plan prices start at $35 a month per line, and there is a new perk where unlimited data is included in the unlimited talk and text plan. This means there is no need to worry about overages or data caps. 

 AT&T business plans can also accommodate up to 10 lines per account, and they come fully loaded with perks—like Stream Saver. This feature optimizes streaming video on your phone to 480p so you can watch webinars on-the-go without dealing with a blurry picture.

Each plan also includes a decent array of iOS and Android smartphone options and even a few good ol’ flip phones. A 15% military veteran discount can be applied to the Business Unlimited plans, as well as AT&T-owned DIRECTV services (because, again, telecom behemoth).

Users are eligible for a discount if they elect for autopay and paperless billing but this discount is only applied until after two pay periods. We don't know why the discount cannot be applied earlier in the billing process but we do find it frustrating. 

T-Mobile: Best flexible plans

Not sure exactly what you’ll need in a mobile plan besides future adaptability? T-Mobile, the third-largest wireless service in the US, offers four Magenta® for Business plans, all packed with unique features that set T-Mobile apart from the rest. The German-owned company has also earned a reputation for stellar customer service and was the first to eliminate annual contracts (an idea that stuck—none of the plans reviewed on this page require contracts). In April 2018, the company announced its intention to merge with Sprint under the T-Mobile banner.

All of T-Mobile’s Business cell phone plans offer the same basic features:

In addition, all T-Mobile Business plans include DIGITS, which allows you to access up to five phone numbers on a single device. That means you could answer calls to your work number and your personal number on one device—no more packing two phones in your bag every day. DIGITS also lets you share your phone number across multiple devices, so you can answer on your phone, smartwatch, tablet, or computer.

T-Mobile users with a Business plan can also add the PlusUp add-on and get extra features, like Voicemail to Text, HD streaming, 20 GB of 4G LTE mobile hotspot data, unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi, caller ID, and double the data speed when roaming internationally.

Keep in mind, though, that T-Mobile’s Business plans are available only on plans with two to 13 lines. If you need more than 13 lines, you’ll need to sign up for the 13+ Plan ($285 per month for 13 lines, plus $25 per month for each additional line).

T-Mobile plans also allow bring-your-own-device convenience, or you can buy phones up front with a single payment (there are nearly 40 iOS and Android phones to choose from).

Now that T-Mobile and Sprint have been merged for almost six months, some significant changes have taken effect. T-Mobile’s website is now the only place businesses can sign up for Sprint or T-Mobile business phone accounts.

Sprint still has an active business website for previous users but all new plans will be sold by T-Mobile on its website.

Verizon: Best growing business plans

Serving over 150 million customers, Verizon isn’t just big, it’s BIG. Such a mobile mammoth might not seem like the obvious choice for a small business, but for what it lacks in a personalized customer service reputation, Verizon more than makes up for by offering every cell phone feature there is, as well as dominant US, and near-dominant global, coverage. Like McDonald’s and Marvel movies, Verizon is everywhere.

While business owners can get business cell phone plans with limited data, we recommend choosing an unlimited plan if you have multiple employees (or do a lot of work via cell phone).

Verizon’s Business Unlimited cell phone plans are scalable from four employees up to and over 40. And with plans starting at just $40 per line, Verizon Business Unlimited plans are an attractive option whether you’re running a tiny company with no expansion plans, a medium-sized business with an eye toward growth, or a large enterprise with heavy cell phone requirements.

Verizon Beyond Unlimited plans also include unlimited mobile hotspot use, though your speeds are limited depending on your plan. Plus, you get unlimited calling and texting to Mexico and Canada—not to mention unlimited calling, texting, and data while in those countries. And naturally, you also get unlimited talk and text as part of your Beyond Unlimited package.

Verizon doesn’t skimp on device choices either. There are nearly 100 iOS and Android phones and tablets available—including the Verizon Jetpack, a mobile hotspot device that can connect 10 devices to its 4G LTE network and an additional five to 3G.

If your company requires truly “unlimited” cell phone service and scalability to grow and is in the position to pay for functionality with frills, Verizon Business Unlimited is the way to go. Bare-bones operations, however, might want to look elsewhere.

Each of our recommendations has its strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes the most difficult part about finding a phone system is determining exactly what you need and don't need. MintMobile: Most affordable plans

We are sure you’ve seen the commercials with Ryan Reynolds talking about this new phone carrier business with a fox logo called Mint Mobile. In fact, a lot of Mint customers were drawn to Mint because of Ryan Reynolds Hollywood looks, but that’s not the only thing Mint has to offer. 

Mint is inexpensive and transparent, compared to other cell phone carriers with hidden fees and seemingly random regulations.

T hese are the prices for new customers and will last up to three months. After the third month, you are eligible to sign up for a 6- or 12-month contract on one of the tiered plans, all less than $35/mo/user, which is astronomically less than other providers. 

MintMobile is no fuss, and you really do feel like you must be tricking the rest of the world with its pricing. The only issue is that MintMobile is fairly new, launched in 2015, coverage is not completely everywhere. There are still a couple of coverage gaps in the West, namely Utah, Nebraska, Idaho and Nevada. If you are east of the Rocky Mountains, you are good to go!

Teltik: Best perks plans

If you’re a strapped startup, New Jersey’s Teltik can get you up and running on the cheap. Teltik is a reseller service operating on T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network, meaning it can offer the reliability and reach of a giant provider at smaller-company prices. Teltik also has the advantage of being completely US-based, with 24/7 local customer service that’s not outsourced overseas.

Teltik appears to have a dozen plans, but they’re mostly just variations of the essential plan that offers all the expected basics. Not coincidentally, the features mirror those of T-Mobile, as they’re on the same network.

The most basic plan starts at $20 a month and includes unlimited calling and texting, mobile hotspot service, and unlimited data—with a 2 GB cap on 4G LTE speeds (meaning your speed gets throttled to 128 Kbps if you use more than 2 GB of data in a month). From there, you can upgrade your plan to include more 4G LTE data and more mobile hotspot data. Upgraded plans cost anywhere from $30 to $40 per month, and they all include one cloud-phone VoIP line—perfect for small businesses looking to save on all their telecommunications needs.

One distinctly entertaining feature (pun intended) of Teltik’s business plans? You get unlimited media streaming from over 40 music services (including Spotify, Pandora, and Apple Music) and more than 100 video services (including YouTube, Netflix, and any other channel you can think of). That means you can stream as much TV as you want without it eating into your data. It’s almost as if Teltik doesn’t want you to get any work done.

Another thing you need to know: Teltik doesn’t sell phones. Instead, the company operates on a strict bring-your-own-device basis. Any unlocked phone will work with its network, as will any T-Mobile device, of course. However, you will have to spend $10 plus shipping and handling to buy a new SIM card for each of your devices (unless they’ve already got brand-new, unused T-Mobile SIM cards).

The takeaway

Assess your company’s current cell phone usage, and projected future needs, before diving into any plan. What looks like a great deal could turn out to be more than you actually need—or you may have initially underestimated your business’s cell phone requirements. Also, if your company has both cell phone and regular office phone needs, check into bundling. The larger telecom providers offer both types of phone coverage, and bundling services is an easy way to save money in the long run.

If you have several employees working outside of the office on a regular basis, desk-bound phones obviously aren’t going to work for them. Some may be only calling and texting while others will be checking email, using GPS navigation, and accessing the internet for work, but a cell phone is a must for employees in the field.

If you’re a one-person operation accountable to only yourself, you could get by with a personal cell plan. Keeping track of multiple employees’ hours, data, and providers, however, would be an extra headache you don’t need. For streamlining and collaboration purposes, a business cell phone plan would be the easier route.

Most of the plans we’ve reviewed here offer unlimited data—domestically, at least—so hitting the data ceiling won’t likely be an issue. But if you want to forecast how much data your business uses every month, providers make data plan estimators available on their websites. Or you could use a third-party calculator app.

BYOD stands for bring your own device . Another common term is BYOP for bring your own phone . These can mean that employees are using their personal phones, tablets, or laptops on their own carrier plans for work or that they’ve put those devices on the company’s plan. The upside? Less expensive than buying devices. The downside? Extra security concerns.

In the annoying absence of Wi-Fi, you can use a cell phone signal to connect a wireless device to the internet by switching on the mobile hotspot option and simply treating it like a Wi-Fi router. For multiple device connections, a dedicated hotspot (such as Verizon’s Jetpack) can provide a faster, and more stable, connection.

What you can do at 2Mbps

2Mbps is great for browsing, social media and streaming music but is not suitable for HD video. Here’s a guide to what you can do at 2Mbps. However, these are “up to” speeds — so your experience will continually vary depending on many factors such as device capabilities, location, network congestion and network coverage.

$25 Team Plans are only available if you simultaneously purchase a phone from Vodafone under a Mobile Payment Plan (‘MPP’) of 12, 24 or 36 months duration (“Commitment Period”). For personal use by approved customers only.

Minimum monthly spend is $25 + monthly handset fees. Total minimum cost is one month of plan fees plus 100% of the MPP instalments of your chosen device. If you choose to cancel your Team Plan, your MPP will auto cancel and 100% of the remaining handset instalments will be applied to your next bill.

You can change your plan from a Team Plan to a Vodafone Infinite Plan once per billing period however you cannot change your plan from a postpaid voice plan to a Team Plan. You can change your plan from a Team Plan to a Team SIM Only Plan but any remaining device repayments will need to be paid in full on your next bill and you may lose any existing discounts.

Data on Team Plans All data for use in Australia within the Vodafone Network coverage area. Team Plans include a very small included data (formerly known as "Max Speed" data) allowance as the purpose of these Plans is to share included data with any Postpaid voice or tablet services on the same account. Included data is data at the fastest speed the Vodafone network can deliver to you, depending on your handset and the time and place you are using data. It will be used first; thereafter data is available at speeds of up to 2Mbps until your next billing month. 

With 2Mbps you can check your socials, browse the web and stream music but is not suitable for HD video. For more information, check out our  speed guide . Tethering is permitted to personal devices only, but must not be used in a modem or as a substitute for a home internet service. Heavy data users may experience slower speeds than other users during busy periods. Actual speeds you reach will continually vary depending on many factors such as device capabilities, location, network congestion, network coverage, if you are roaming and if you are a heavy data user.  Fair Use Policy applies.

Sharing on Team Plans A business customer must have a consumer postpaid plan (either voice or tablet) on their account (‘Primary Service’). This gives a customer the ability to add up to 9 Team Plans (either voice or tablet) on their business account so the included data (formerly known as Max Speed data) of the Primary Service/s can share with the Team Plans. Data capped at speeds up to 1.5, 2, 10 or 25Mbps is not shareable. If you cancel your consumer postpaid or tablet service/s on your account, your Team Plans will remain.

$5 Roaming on Team Plans Countries subject to change, see current list and full details . Available to eligible customers, see terms for details specific to your plan. $5 Daily Charge is in addition to minimum monthly spend and allows you to use your plan’s inclusions in Eligible Countries for $5 per day. Team Plans can access the sharing group’s included data (formerly known as Max Speed data) while $5 Roaming. Data capped at speeds up to 1.5, 2, 10 or 25Mbps is not accessible while $5 Roaming. Once your included data is exhausted, additional data will be automatically added at a charge of $5/GB ($0.005/MB) (“Additional Roaming Data”). When buying an unlimited data plan from Vodafone, you’ll need to choose between three different plans. Unlimited Max is Vodafone’s fastest available plan. Meanwhile, Unlimited is capped at a maximum download speed of 10Mbps and Unlimited Lite is capped at a maximum speed of 2Mbps .

Unlimited Data on Vodafone

Vodafone unlimited data plans compared.

Starting from £30/month, you can currently choose from the Vodafone Unlimited Max , Unlimited and Unlimited Lite plans. All of them will allow you to download as much as you like, with no hidden limits or fair usage policies.

However, the unlimited data plans differ in the speeds and features available:

• Unlimited Max starts from £33/month and gives you the fastest available speeds on Vodafone’s network, including 5G if you have a 5G-ready phone and 5G coverage where you live.
• Unlimited starts from £30/month and gives you download speeds of up to 10Mbps .
• Unlimited Lite starts from £30/month and gives you download speeds of up to 2Mbps .

You can also get unlimited data on a range of Pay Monthly phones and on mobile broadband , with a range of different offers available.

In the rest of this section, we’ll look at each of Vodafone’s unlimited data plans in more detail.

Unlimited Max Plan

On Unlimited Max, your download speeds can in theory go all the way up to 1,000Mbps when you’re connected to Vodafone’s 5G network. Alternatively, you can get download speeds of up to 450Mbps when connected to 4G.

In practice, you’ll rarely get these maximum possible speeds. A more typical range of download speeds is 150-200Mbps on 5G and 25-35Mbps on 4G. You can get an estimate of the download speeds in your area by entering your postcode on this page and then tapping on the “Data speed info” button.

Because you’ll get the fastest available speeds, Unlimited Max is perfect for downloading large files and for watching online video in ultra-HD (4K) quality. It’s also perfect if you want to tether to other devices, or if you want to use the Unlimited Max SIM card for 4G or 5G broadband.

At present, you can get an Unlimited Max SIM card for £33/month. If you like, you can add Entertainment to your plan for an extra £7/month. This gives you an inclusive subscription to either YouTube Premium, Amazon Prime or Spotify Premium for the length of your contract. You’ll also get 100 UK-to-EU minutes every month.

Unlimited Plan

If you don’t need the fastest available download speeds and inclusive roaming outside Europe, Vodafone Unlimited can be a good option that saves you around £4/month. At present, you can get a Vodafone Unlimited plan for £30/month.

On Vodafone Unlimited , the maximum download speed available is 10Mbps . This is equivalent to 4G speed, or the speed of a regular home broadband connection. This will allow you to do the majority of things you’d want to do on you smartphone, including streaming HD-quality video and making HD-quality video calls. However, you won’t be able to stream ultra-HD (4K quality) video. Tethering to multiple devices at the same time can also cause your connection to slow down (as the 10Mbps speed limit collectively applies to all of your tethered devices).

Of course, the 10Mbps speed limit doesn’t apply when you’re using Wi-Fi so you’ll still be able to watch ultra-HD video at home using Wi-Fi if you like.

The Vodafone Unlimited plan is available from £30/month . Like on Unlimited Max, you can also add an entertainment package for an extra £7/month.

Unlimited Lite Plan

If you want a low-cost unlimited data plan where you never need to worry about running out of data mid-month, Unlimited Lite can be a good value option. It starts from only £22/month. This is a saving of £8/month compared to the normal price of the Unlimited Max plan.

The main downside of Unlimited Lite is that download speeds are capped at a maximum of 2Mbps . This is roughly equivalent to the speed of a 3G connection. That’s enough for everyday usage like browsing the web, using social media, instant messaging, listening to music online and watching video in standard-definition quality. However, it won’t allow you to watch HD-quality video and tethering isn’t recommended as the 2Mbps doesn’t go far across multiple devices.

You can get an Unlimited Lite SIM card for £22/month. There’s no option to add an entertainment package to Unlimited Lite.

Fair Usage Policy

If you’re using unlimited data for your work or business, you can choose a Vodafone business unlimited data plan from £9.17/month for the first 6 months, followed by £18.33/month (excluding VAT).

If you’re using a Vodafone Unlimited plan with 4 Xtra Benefits, you can use up to 25GB of data abroad at no extra cost each month.

SIM Cards For 4G & 5G Broadband

Vodafone offers a choice of mobile broadband devices including a USB data dongle and a mobile wi-fi hotspot . Alternatively, if you have your own 4G or 5G mobile broadband device, you can simply use an unlimited data SIM card from Vodafone inside it.

For the ultimate experience, you can upgrade to Unlimited Max to get faster download speeds and inclusive roaming in another 30 destinations outside Europe. The extra speed is by no means necessary for most people but it can make things a little speedier and faster on your phone.

If you’d like to save a bit of money, Unlimited Lite will still support most of the things you’d like to do on your phone. It’s a good choice if you want peace of mind about never running out of data, but you’re restricted in some of the things you can do (e.g. watching HD-quality video). For this reason, it can be somewhat limited compared to what you’ll get on the other plans and may not be suitable for all types of usage.

Comparison to Alternatives

Normally, Three is the cheapest mobile network for unlimited data in the UK. Currently, their unlimited data plans start from just £20/month . This includes 5G coverage at no extra cost, with no speed limits or hidden fair usage limits.

It’s important to note that several other mobile networks have a fair usage limit on their unlimited data plans (e.g. restrictions on personal hotspot usage or speed limits after a certain amount of data usage in one month). 4G & 5G Coverage

Before you sign up to Vodafone’s unlimited data plan, it’s worth double-checking to make sure there’s coverage in your area. You can do this by entering your postcode on Vodafone’s online coverage map :

With 4G coverage, you can normally access download speeds of about 25-35Mbps on Vodafone. To get a more accurate figure for download speeds in your area, tap on the “Data speed info” button after entering your postcode.

Tethering & Personal Hotspot

On Vodafone’s unlimited data plans, it’s possible to tether and use personal hotspot without any restrictions. This means you can share your unlimited data allowance with other devices.

One thing, however, that’s worth remembering is that your download speed limit will be shared across all of your tethered devices. For instance, on the 10Mbps unlimited data plan, it’ll only be possible to stream HD-quality video on two devices at the same time (each HD-quality video stream uses around 5Mbps). For this reason, if you regularly use the personal hotspot feature on multiple devices, it might be worth choosing the Unlimited Max plan.

International Roaming

If you’re using an unlimited data plan without 4 Xtra Benefits, you’ll pay £2/day to use your phone in Europe and £6/day to use your phone outside Europe.

According to Vodafone, they offer 4G roaming in more destinations than any other mobile network. At the time of writing, 4G roaming is available in 137 destinations. 5G roaming is also available in 68 European towns and cities across Italy, Spain, Germany and Ireland (including Milan, Rome, Naples, Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cork and Dublin).

Keeping Your Phone Number

Start by ordering your new unlimited data SIM card from Vodafone’s website . Once you’ve done that, you can request a PAC Code from your old mobile network. You can get one free of charge through your mobile network’s website or app, or by texting PAC to 65075.

Once your new unlimited data SIM card arrives from Vodafone, place it inside your mobile phone. You can then give your PAC Code to Vodafone . They’ll schedule the transfer of your phone number, normally for the next working day after you submit this form.

This is very useful (thanks!) but do you know if any data is available for Vodafone upload speeds.

We’ve had some problems with our Vodafone broadband, especially on the upload. I suspect it is the old copper (I’m told) cabling. It’s gone from consistent 15-20 Mbps upload, to consistent c.10 Mbps in December, to consistent 3-4 Mbps recently. Might providers be having to limit upload speeds because much more bandwidth is used up these days (Zoom, Teams etc.)?

We’re pretty central Bristol, close to cabinet (<100m) and the Bristol West exchange (10Mbps upload.

All iPhones and I’ve turned off low data mode, I case that was throttling it.

Hi Paul, Thanks for your comment. This article is about Vodafone’s unlimited data plans for mobile – it’s very different for their home broadband service ( see here for more information on the broadband speeds ). For broadband, I don’t believe they have an average upload figure – only a maximum of 10Mbps on Superfast 1 and 20Mbps on Superfast 2. If you’re seeing a reduction in performance, I’d probably recommend reaching out to Vodafone directly as they can run some tests from their side to diagnose what might have happened inside their network. Do you know if Vodafone will throttle the speed when roaming overseas (like Three)? Also, I read in one of your reviews that Vodafone does allow hotspotting while overseas (Three does not allow this). Is this correct? Sorry, too many questions. Hi Dragonfly, Thanks for your comment. I’ve taken the liberty to move your comment to my blog post on Vodafone’s unlimited data plans. I hope you don’t mind me doing this (I’m hoping it will just be more useful for other people here, in case they also have the same questions as you)! The answer to this is it really depends. You can see a bit more information about this in my guide to download speeds , but I’d typically expect download speeds of about 30Mbit/s on a modern 4G connection (even more if you’re connected to 5G). This differs, however, depending on your location, your proximity to the nearest phone mast, the amount of congestion, etc. With Unlimited Max, you’ll get the maximum possible speeds available on Vodafone’s network. Assuming the speeds available in your area are more than 10Mbit/s, you would get a faster experience when using the Unlimited Max plan. If the speeds available in your area are less than 10Mbit/s, there wouldn’t be much of a difference between your experience on the two. The other side of this is really what download speeds you need, and what impact this has on what you can actually do. Something like a HD quality video stream only uses about 5Mbit/s , so you may not actually have a need for the higher speeds above 10Mbit/s. Similarly, if you’re downloading a file, it may only save you one or two seconds (in which case, the extra speeds may not be justified). With regards to roaming, I believe Vodafone should give you full-speed roaming when you travel abroad. As far as I know, there are no limitations on tethering/personal hotspot, like Three has when you’re travelling outside the EU. On Unlimited Max, you’ll get Global Roaming Plus (inclusive roaming in 77 destinations). Hope this helps, Ken

I moved over from Three couple days ago been with them (3) for 10 years, but they once again shafted me with “getting rid of old plans” this is the second time.

Previously was when they got rid of the “One Plan” was paying £15 per month SIMO.

Currently was on unlimited everything with tethering for £18 wanted to move me over to £23 for same service.

Out of principle moved to vodafone £30 max. First speed test on 4G i got 200 Mbps down on my S10

Vodafone speeds seem substantially better than Three at most I’ve gotten was 80 Mbps

Right now, a promotion at Mint lowers the cost of the first three months by half to $15. So you'll pay $45 for three months of unlimited service before the regular $30 monthly rate kicks in. Another Mint promotion adds six months of Paramount Plus streaming when you sign up for a new account in May. With Mint, you can use up to 40GB of data each month before your service is slowed down. Mint also provides 5G access through T-Mobile, which now owns the low-cost carrier. The best unlimited plan value from a major carrier

AT&T | AT&T Value Plus | $51/month — AT&T's cheapest unlimited plan AT&T has three main unlimited data plans, which range in cost from $66 to $86 per month for a single line. (Of those offerings, AT&T Unlimited is the best and most expensive, but it has solid perks like lots of hotspot data, 4K video streaming and the ability to stay connected when traveling in Latin America.) If that seems like too much, though, AT&T's Value Plus offering charges a lower $51 monthly rate. (Technically $50.99.) Perks are few and far between, and AT&T can slow your service if its network is busy. But you get relatively cheap unlimited data on a great network. T-Mobile Go5G | Unlimited data | $75/month - Best perks from an affordable unlimited plan Pricier options deliver more perks, but we think the best T-Mobile cell phone plan for most people comes down to a choice between its Magenta ($70) and Go5G ($75) if you want unlimited data. Magenta is the cheaper offering, with 100GB of priority data — that means your data speed won't be slowed until you consume a lot of data every month. Magenta also includes 5GB of LTE hotspot data with unlimited hotspot data at 3G speeds. Go5G increases hotspot data to 15GB and lets you use more data when traveling in Mexico and Canada. The cheapest unlimited plan

Tello | Unlimited data | $25/month — A cheap unlimited alternative to Mint and Visible Tello's unlimited data option now cost $25, matching Visible's cheapest plan and beating Mint by $5. (You also don't need to commit for a full year of service at Tello like you to get Mint's best rate.)  Don't expect many perks from Tello's unlimited data plan — you can make free calls to 60-plus countries and use your phone as a hotspot, but that's about it. The most flexible unlimited plan

Verizon | Unlimited Plus | $80/month - Most flexible unlimited plan Unlimited Plus is the more value-packed option among Verizon's top phone plans . You'll play $15 less each month for Welcome Unlimited, but that plan offers little more than nationwide 5G coverage. The best unlimited plan for Comcast customers

Xfinity Mobile | Unlimited Intro plan | $40/month - Best unlimited plan for Comcast customers If you're already getting internet service from Comcast — and there's a good chance you are, since it's the nation's largest ISP — consider bundling in phone service through Xfinity Mobile . The price is certainly right, at $40 a month for unlimited data on a single line. (Adding extra lines drops the price further — two lines cost $30 each, while a family of four would pay $25 per line.) Xfinity also has a $50 Unlimited Plus plan with better perks (faster hotspot speeds, a higher cap before speeds are throttled, and so on). But the $40 tier should be good enough for most customers. Pros: Low cost, uses Verizon's network Cons: Only available to Xfinity internet customers

Best unlimited data plan for travelers

Google Fi | Unlimited Plus plan | $65/month - Best unlimited plan for traveling Google Fi's main unlimited plan is not one of the most affordable plans. For travelers, though, the Unlimited Plus plan is the perfect option. Google doesn't charge you extra for texting or using data in more than 200 countries. There are other benefits to Google Fi's plan too, like a year of YouTube Premium. If you have a Pixel 8 , Pixel 8a , Pixel Fold or any one of a number of select devices from Samsung and Motorola, you'll be able to switch seamlessly between cellular networks and Google's Wi-Fi hotspots. However, any handset can use Google Fi and any 5G-enabled phone can connect to the faster network where available. If $65 a month is too much, Google features a $50 plan, though you give up the international coverage. Pros: Great international coverage, supports lots of phones now, includes YouTube Premium Cons: Some features limited to select phones

Cricket Wireless | Unlimited + 15GB Mobile Hotspot | $60/month - Best prepaid unlimited plan perks Among prepaid carriers, Metro by T-Mobile charges less than Cricket with an unlimited plan starting at $40 a month. Yet, we like Cricket's plan because you can reduce the cost by $5/month when you enroll in autopay, bringing your total cost to $55. This Cricket plan also comes with perks like 15GB of hotspot data, 150GB of cloud storage and access to the ad-supported Max streaming serivce. How to pick the best unlimited data plan for you

Besides making sure to choose a carrier that offers good service in your area — check out our guide to the fastest wireless networks in addition to asking friends and family about coverage — consider both price and perks. With the best unlimited data plans from major carriers ranging in price from $60 to $90 per month, pick the plan that fits in your budget or turn to a discount carrier like Mint or Visible. Also consider what benefits each wireless carrier includes with their different tiers of unlimited data.

Wondering if you need unlimited data? Unless you’re streaming video and music fairly regularly, you probably can get away with a tiered data plan, like the ones offered by AT&T and Verizon.

While we have a separate guide to the best family cell phone plan options, most of the unlimited plans featured here allow you to add extra lines, usually at discounted per-line rates. The exceptions are AT&T's Value Plus Plan, Tello's $25 option and the Visible Plus plan. Mint's approach to family plans is to offer the same discounted rate for each line of data, so unlimited plans would cost $30 per line, assuming you commit to the full year of service.

Are unlimited data plans truly unlimited?

That depends. While you do technically get unlimited data on all of these plans, many of them will impose a restriction somewhere in the plan to limit you slightly. 

AT&T reserves the right to start throttling data at 50GB for Unlimited Extra; Unlimited Starter customers can be throttled at any time. Unlimited Premium customers don't have to worry about caps, though, as AT&T has removed that limitation from its most expensive plan. Verizon is able to slow data after 30GB are used by Unlimited Plus customers; speeds can slow whenever there's network congestion for the Unlimited Welcome plan. T-Mobile lets you use 100GB of data before throttling can begin, though if you opt for the more expensive Magenta Max plan, there's no cap on data usage at all.

Get your service from a discount carrier, and you run the risk that your speeds will be slowed in favor of other customers on the parent carrier's network. Visible guarantees customers who sign up for its Visible Plus plan 50GB of premium data free of throttling. Xfinity Mobile slows speeds after you use 30GB of data on its standard unlimited plan, but under the Plus plan, that cap rises to 50GB, respectively. Mint caps its unlimited data plan at 40GB while Tello has increased its cap to 35GB. 

There could also be limits on the quality of video you can stream — some plans restrict video streaming to 480p, requiring you to pay more for HD video streaming. Many plans also impose limits on hotspot data, only allotting a limited amount of high-speed hotspot data. This isn't really as big of an issue as it sounds. For the average person, hotspotting is simply an added benefit and you won't really lose out too much by being limited on it.

A popular music magazine has been closed down just months after being relaunched online. 

Q, which originally closed after 34 years in 2020, was revived as an online publication nearly six months ago after a licensing deal was struck by New-York based Empire Media Group. 

But its surprise closure, which came to light on Friday, means a team of six full-time staff have lost their jobs.

Writer Will Harris is one of them, saying he'd lost his "first full-time employment in a dozen years".

Writing on Substack , he said the move had been a "business decision" but that staff had been working long hours to "make it the best publication" possible. 

"We worked our shifts, worked before and after our shifts, and delivered consistently top-shelf content that was, to our way of thinking, exactly the sort of thing that a new incarnation of Q Magazine should offer," he wrote. 

Editor-in-chief Andrew Barker said the decision to shut the magazine down "came with no advance warning, and no indication that anything was wrong". 

"To say that we were shocked and devastated would be a colossal understatement." 

Sky News has contacted Empire Media Group for comment. 

Separately, last week saw the return of a 90s lads mag Loaded.

The magazine relaunched its website after disappearing nine years ago, offering a £9 monthly membership. 

As part of its revival, it has changed its tagline from "for men who should know better" to "for men who know better". 

"The relaunch of the platform is a digital rebellion for the modern man who refuses to fit into a stereotype, from the finest in music, sports, film, and anything else that is of interest," it said in a statement. 

"Loaded is about building a space where men challenge each other, celebrate wins, and tackle all that matters to them." 

Virgin Trains has applied for a licence that could see it return to running rail services on the West Coast route between London and Glasgow, five years after losing its contract.

The company had operated the service, which runs from London Euston via Birmingham and Manchester to Scotland, for 22 years before Avanti West Coast took over in 2019.

The company has now applied to the regulator - the Office of Rail and Road - for an Open Access licence. If granted, it means Virgin Trains receives no subsidy and runs services alongside the franchise, at its own risk.

A spokesperson for Virgin Group told Sky News: "While this application is just the first step towards exploring what might be possible, we think Open Access is the way forward.

"Open Access increases consumer choice and competition both of which Virgin has always supported."

After four weeks of rises the Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) 250 index of the 101st to 350th most valuable companies on the London Stock Exchange has begun a fifth week in positive territory - up 0.54%. 

If it ends this week higher than now it'll be the best run it has had since before the pandemic, in December 2019. 

The most valuable companies on the London Stock Exchange - the FTSE 100 index - also started the week on a high, up 0.22%. Mexican mining company Fresnillo is the best performing company of the day so far with shares up 3.17% as copper hit an all-time peak.

The oil price is staying lower than all of April and most of March at $84.24 for a barrel of Brent crude oil - the benchmark price. 

A pound is equal to $1.2696 or €1.1675. 

The average salary advertised on job sites increased by 0.45% to £38,810 in April, according to vacancies website Adzuna. 

Only two sectors - legal and travel - experienced a fall in the average salary being offered.

"[This] demonstrates rising business confidence throughout the UK and that companies are keen to hire specialist staff," said Andrew Hunter, co-founder of Adzuna. 

"They are willing to pay well for new team members too."

He said the East Midlands continued to see the largest annual increases for the fifth month in a row - helped by roles in science, tech and professional services.

We bought a Ford C-Max second hand four years ago. It's less than eight years old now with 77,000 miles. Our garage says the car is a write-off due to a known issue with EcoBoost engines. Ford refuses to pay for repairs. Anything I can do? Rory Raftery

Rory did not leave his contact details so we haven't been able to talk to the dealership - but we had some luck with Ford. First though,  Scott Dixon, from The Complaints Resolver , lays out your basic rights...

Your contract is always with the trader who sold you the goods (in this case the garage), not the manufacturer.

Any reference to warranties is irrelevant, as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 overrides this and gives you an implied statutory warranty for free for up to six years in England and Wales and five years in Scotland.

The act states that goods ought to be:

• Fit for purpose
• As described
• Satisfactory quality
• Last a reasonable length of time

As we are past six months since you bought the car, the onus is on you to prove it had inherent faults when it was sold. 

I would seek an independent report to reinforce your case and dispute. Given that this has been a well-known issue with EcoBoost engines for quite some time, the trader who sold you the vehicle should have carried out additional checks.

A cursory Google search reveals that a loss of engine power and serious valve damage is commonplace on higher mileage EcoBoost engines.

I would check to see if this vehicle has been subject to a recall. Also check the MOT history to see if any advisory notices were flagged and not remedied before you bought the vehicle.

How did you pay for it? 

You should always pay at least a deposit by credit card if possible, as it gives you additional free protection and joint liability under S75 Consumer Credit Act 1974 for purchases over £100.

If you paid a deposit by credit card, contact your credit card provider and say you want to raise a S75 dispute and claim for a faulty car.

They will ask for more details – say the supplier is in "breach of contract" under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and has supplied a defective/faulty car. You have exhausted all options with the retailer and cannot resolve your dispute.

If the car is on finance, they bought the defective vehicle from the dealer and own it. You can go down the same route and raise a S75 claim against them for a breach of contract under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

If you reach a stalemate with the credit card provider or finance company, ask for a deadlock letter setting out their final position so you can submit a formal complaint (with the final response/deadlock letter) to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).

They do not like cases being referred to the FOS as it costs them money. The FOS will examine documents given to you as the customer at the point of sale. The dealership is responsible for any representations made in those documents. You are seeking to reject the car, so make this clear.

Offers made will be calculated on the anticipated lifespan of the goods – time of use and depreciation. Ask for any offers made to be evidenced with calculations to ascertain how the amount has been arrived at.

Car dealerships will often cite that they are entitled to deduct 45p a mile for use on refund calculations when you try to reject a faulty vehicle. This is a scam. The FOS has ruled that 25p a mile is fair and acceptable, so keep that in mind when any offers are made.

Statutory limitations on any consumer dispute is six years in England and Wales and five years in Scotland from the date the goods were received.

This does not detract from the expected lifespan of the goods – it is simply a limit on the time you have to resolve the dispute under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Options and next steps

If all else fails, you could take your case to the small claims court if it was England, or follow simple procedure in Scotland .

Ford response

A Ford spokesperson told the Money team: "Ford is confident in the robustness and reliability of its EcoBoost engine technology when the stated guidelines for maintenance and service are followed. 

"Ford UK is happy to investigate service support and/or compensation measures for any customer who believes they have had an EcoBoost engine issue and is happy to review cases with a full-service history for vehicles up to 10 years old with less than 150,000 miles.

"For any customers in the UK whose vehicle meets these parameters, you can speak to our customer relationship team and contact details can be found on our website here ."

Ford offered to look at this specific case - but sadly Rory didn't leave contact details for us to pass on.

A tiny Mexican taco stand has won a Michelin star. 

El Califa de Leon in Mexico City offers just four types of tacos, with McDonald's prices, no reservations and plates served in plastic bags.

"The secret is the simplicity of our taco. It has only a tortilla, red or green sauce, and that's it. That, and the quality of the meat," chef Arturo Rivera Martinez told AP. 

He's also probably the only Michelin-starred chef who, when asked what beverage should accompany his food, answers: "I like a Coke." 

Thousands of time a day, he grabs a fresh, thinly sliced fillet of beef from a stack and slaps it on the grill, tosses a pinch of salt over it, squeezes half a lime on top, and grabs a soft round of freshly rolled tortilla dough onto the solid metal slab to puff up.

After less than a minute - he won't say exactly how long because "that's a secret" - he flips the beef over with a spatula, flips the tortilla, and very quickly scoops it onto a plate - then calls out the customer's name who ordered it. 

Asked how it felt to get a Michelin star, he said in Mexico City slang, "esta chido ... esta padre," or "it's neat, it's cool". 

El Califa de Leon, which was founded in 1968, is the only taco stand among the 16 Mexican restaurants given one star, as well as two eateries that have got two stars.

Other than perhaps one street food stand in Bangkok, it is probably the smallest restaurant ever to get a star

Half of the 100 square-foot (9.29 square-metre) space is taken up by a solid steel plate grill.

The other half is packed with standing customers, and an assistant who rolls out the rounds of tortilla dough constantly.

The prices are quite high by Mexican standards: the tacos range in price from 53 Mexican pesos to 82 Mexican pesos - that works out at around £2.50 to £4. 

Waitrose's new Ottolenghi range has proved popular with customers, with sales reportedly 97% higher than predicted. 

The nine products created in partnership with restaurateur Yotam Ottlenghi launched in 275 stores last month. 

It marked the supermarket's first major deal with a celebrity chef since it ended its tie-up with Heston Blumenthal last year. 

According to The Grocer, demand has been "unprecedented", with five of the nine lines unavailable online last week. 

We checked and it seems stocks have since been replenished. 

Waitrose told the news outlet performance of the range had "exceeded expectations", with sales 97% higher than anticipated. 

The Pomegranate Harissa Paste has proved to be the top seller for the first two weeks.

The products have a 20% launch discount until 18 June.

A slim majority of economists believe the Bank of England will start cutting interest rates in August.

Thirty-eight of 71 polled by Reuters expect a cut to 5% in August - compared with 31 opting for June and two for September.

BoE governor Andrew Bailey said earlier this month that once they start falling, rates could dip lower than markets had been forecasting - prompting hope that mortgage holders could see rates closer to 3% next year.

The base rate has sat at 5.25%, a 16-year high, since August.

The aim was to reduce inflation by encouraging saving rather than spending, which tends to slow price rises.

Inflation has fallen dramatically from 11.1% in October to 3.2% in March - and April's figure, to be announced at 7am on Wednesday, is likely to put it closer to the target of 2%.

The next base rate decision is on 20 June.

"The reason I'm currently leaning a little bit more towards August rather than June is that with signs the economy is doing okay, the BoE is unlikely to feel the need to rush into cutting interest rates," said Dean Turner, chief eurozone and UK economist at UBS Global Wealth Management.

"They have time to ensure further progress on services inflation and wage pressures."

Estate agent fees are one of the big expenses in selling a house - but rule changes and the rise of private sale websites have made it more common for people to go it alone.

But how easy is it - and what do you need to know? We spoke to industry experts to find out.

Firstly, what do estate agents do for their money?

An estate agent will typically charge in the range of 1%-3.5% of the sale price. 

That means for the average house price (£284,691 from December) you could pay anywhere from £2,846 to £9,964 in commission fees.

"When you use an estate agent, their fee includes taking professional photographs, advertising your home, conducting property viewings, and negotiating a price on your behalf," says Jack Smithson  from the home ownership site  Better.co.uk .

In addition, an estate agent will compile comprehensive details of your house, including room sizes and descriptions of fixtures and fittings. 

"They will also provide a concise write-up about the local area, highlighting amenities, schools, and transportation links," Jack adds. 

And they'll conduct checks on buyers for you (more on this later).

It sounds like a lot, but...

"Selling your home yourself can be a manageable process with a few key steps," Jack says.

Preparation 

You should begin by thoroughly researching house prices in your area, using websites like Rightmove and Zoopla - but seek free valuations from local estate agents to ensure you have a realistic asking price in mind.

Next, you want to take high-quality photos of your house.

Jack advises using tutorials on YouTube to learn new shooting and editing techniques that can take you to the next level.

You then want to write down what makes your home unique.

"While browsing other listings for inspiration, take it a step further by emphasising what you love about living in your home and the surrounding area," Jack suggests.

"Whether it's the refreshing scent of the coastline or the tranquil sounds of village life, incorporating these details can help potential buyers visualise living there," he advises. 

Like using YouTube for photography tips, you can use free tools such as ChatGPT and Grammarly if you need help with your writing, Jack says.

This is probably the biggest perk of going through an established estate agent - your home is much more likely to be viewed because they will have an established audience and a market. But it's very possible to do it alone. 

"When it comes to advertising your home, explore a variety of avenues including local newspapers and social media," Jack says.

"Consider using websites like Strike, which allow individuals to list their properties for free on platforms like Rightmove," he suggests.

Viewings 

Once you've secured some viewings, you've got the opportunity to make it a bit more personal than estate agents ever could - a real advantage. 

"Explain the reasons behind your decision to purchase the property, highlight its unique features, and share the aspects of your neighbourhood that make it a desirable place to live," Jack says. 

The small things matter when showing people round - so try to take an objective look around before you bring anyone in.

Do the things you'd do normally - make sure it smells nice and it's clean and tidy.

"Lastly, it's worth knowing that you must legally provide potential buyers with a free Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)."

The sale itself

Perhaps the most daunting aspect is the physical exchange of contracts and money. 

An estate agent would typically oversee the process of the initial offer acceptance to the transfer of keys to the new owner.

However, if you go it alone, you'll need to become the central point of contact - bridging the gap between your solicitor or conveyancer and the buyer and their legal representative.

"Once you've accepted an offer on your property, your first task is to draft what's called a memorandum of sale," Jack says.  

This document is a written confirmation of your acceptance of the offer and details the agreed price along with any specific conditions you've both agreed to.

"It's then recommended to engage the services of a solicitor or conveyancer to ensure all legal obligations are met," Jack says (of course, you'll need to do this even if you have an estate agent).

The cost of hiring one typically ranges from a few hundred to over £1,000, depending on factors such as fixed fees, hourly rates, the complexity of the sale and additional costs like property searches or land registry fees.

"In the absence of an estate agent, you'll be responsible for keeping your buyer informed about the progress of the sale. This involves regular updates on the status of legal procedures and any relevant developments," Jack says, before adding that this can actually be a good thing.

"By taking on these responsibilities independently, you'll have greater control over the sale process. However, it will require you to be exceptionally organised, and you'll need to be very good at communicating too."  

Any risks to be aware of?

Rita Patel, legal director at law firm  Browne Jacobson , tells us the biggest risk for people selling their properties without an estate agent is the lack of a vetting and verification process of the potential buyer.

Estate agents will verify the buyer's identity and check the buyer's proof and source of funds - without this, there's no way to assess the buyer is legitimate and can afford to buy.

"Whilst this process is something lawyers can help with, this is often at an additional cost, and you'll need to start from square one if there is an issue with a potential buyer's identification and/or financial eligibility," Rita says. 

More generally, selling without an agent can extend the time it takes to sell. 

"Zoopla suggests this timeframe is normally around 17-34 weeks, but with no one on hand to consistently promote and drive the property sale at all stages, going solo drags this process out," Rita says. 

"Agents can also help mediate any potential breakdowns in communication between the buyer and seller - reducing the likelihood of having to go back to market and start again."

The advantages

Laura Owen-Brown, a PR manager from Gloucestershire, tells us she is set to sell her house without an estate agent in the near future.

"My disappointment with estate agents stems from their lack of familiarity with the properties they attempted to sell me when I was buying my current house," she says. 

"They couldn't tell me about the details that truly matter, like the optimal times for sunlight in the garden, how much council tax I'd pay, what the roof was made of, the places I could walk my dog off lead or the impact of post-football match traffic on Sundays.

"These types of details can shape the experience of living in a house for years and are just as important as the square footage, EPC rating or how many bedrooms a property has," she adds. 

She says the current "transactional" approach to selling houses feels "impersonal and outdated" to her. 

"Yes, I'll have to handle more admin, but the savings in both money and time will make it worthwhile. Liaising with buyers and solicitors directly without a third party slowing everything down will mean I can be in control and have transparency throughout the process, especially during negotiations," she says.

All in all...

As Laura says, it's very much a case of whether you can stomach the admin and are happy to take the risks on background financial checks. 

If you are aware of all the above and willing to take on the organisational burden, you could save yourself a serious chunk of cash.
