Food Web KEY
1. For the food web, label each organism: (Some may have more than one label)
P = producer | 1 = Primary Consumer | 2= Secondary Consumer | 3 = Tertiary Consumer | 4 Quartenary Consumer
2. Now label each animal as either a : H = herbivore C = carnivore O = omnivore
4. Create your own food web on the back. You do not need to draw pictures, you could just write the words. Animals to put on your web: MOUSE, CORN, BLUEBIRD, KING SNAKE, HAWK, CAT, CRICKET
Alternatives: Make a food web online at Scholastic Web or at Harcourt School;
Some students also made it using paint, word, or similar program

Food Web Analysis Worksheet
Food webs and food chains are a basic, fundamental concept of ecology that nearly every student learns once or twice. However, there is a lot more behind the food web than simply "who eats who". This worksheet will take students through a portion of the complex food web found at Yellowstone National Park and have them work with concepts such as trophic level (producer - primary consumer - secondary consumer - tertiary consumer), energy flow, the Ten percent rule, decomposers, and keystone species.
All artwork in this worksheet was hand-drawn on commission by Brittany Breaux , an exceptionally-talented former student of mine.
Essential concepts: Food web, food chain, trophic level, producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer, decomposers, Ten percent rule, keystone species.
Answer Key: Available as part of a environmental science instructor resources subscription .

ANSWER KEY Food Web A food web shows how energy is passed on from one living thing to the next. It shows the feeding habits of different animals that live together in an ecosystem. In the food web pictured on the left, energy is passed from the grass to the mouse to the snake to the hawk. Producers are living things that make
3. A food chain is a model that identifies the feeding relationships and the flow of energy in an ecosystem. Select a producer and a consumer from your piles, then fill in the blanks below and select which model (A or B) correctly shows the flow of energy. A. _______________. consumer.

Food Chains. Show what eats what in order to gain the energy it needs. Food Webs. Are all the food chains of an ecosystem put together. Consumers. Must eat another organism to obtain energy (heterotrophs) Primary Consumer. When an organism eats a producer (herbivores) Secondary Consumer.
Label the trophic level of each organism in your food chain as follows: producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer. Record your food chain in the space below using species names and arrows. Answers will vary, but two possibilities are plantà insectà shrewà serval or plantà insectà warthogà lion. 6.

Watch video: "Energy in living things- The Food Web- Example", then answer: a) What exactly do food webs show? They show the energy transfer in ecosystems; b) What do the "lines" represent in a food web? Lines represent flow of energy between organisms in a food web. c) Identify 1 (one) for each of the following: 1. Producer: plants 2.
Lesson Procedures. 1. Complete questions #1-3 on the student worksheet using the image of the food web provided. 2. Provide copies of the Life in a Pond cards for each group. Have each group cut apart the cards. 3. Discuss the different organisms found in a food web - producers, consumers, and decomposers.
Here are some examples of types of species whose population changes can have strong effects on other organisms in the food web: 1. Species that are the only prey source/source of food for specialist species (e.g., if a fish only eats one kind of algae and that algae species starts to die off, the fish population will decline as well). 2 ...
