Telling Time
Learning to tell time is an important skill for first graders. It involves understanding the concepts of hours , minutes , and the different parts of a clock.
The Parts of a Clock
A clock has two hands - an hour hand and a minute hand. The hour hand is shorter and moves slowly, while the minute hand is longer and moves faster. The clock is divided into 12 hours , with each hour representing 5 minutes on the clock face.
Reading the Clock
To read the time on a clock, first look at the hour hand to determine the hour. Then, look at the minute hand to determine the minutes . For example, if the hour hand is pointing to the 5 and the minute hand is pointing to the 12, the time is 5:00.
Practicing Telling Time
First graders can practice telling time using both analog and digital clocks . They can also learn to tell time in different increments, such as half past the hour or quarter to the hour.
Telling time is an essential skill that helps children understand the concept of time and how it relates to their daily activities. With practice, first graders can become proficient in telling time on both analog and digital clocks .
