A Newbie’s Guide to Baby Modeling
You know you have the cutest baby ever, right? The almost exceeded storage limit on your phone proves it. Everyone tells you that your baby has the best smile and is photogenic. That’s when you have an “ah-ha” moment, “Maybe my sweet pea can be a baby model?” But, when it comes to baby modeling, it’s a little more involved than just snapping a few pics before naptime. Modeling for babies is not child’s play; it’s a business, and just like any other business, you need to know the ins and outs if you want your experience to be successful.
How to Get Into Baby Modeling
Before baby strikes a pose in front of a professional lens you need to get people to see pictures of baby, preferably people in the baby modeling business. Whether you go the agency route or take another approach, you’re going to want to put baby’s best face forward.
- Submitting Pictures. While you don’t need to get professional photos taken to start in baby modeling, you shouldn’t scroll through your phone and just pick any old shot. You want to take pictures that show off baby’s best assets. Top children’s modeling agent and photographer Nina Lubarda Stropnik of Future Faces NYC says a child’s personality should shine through the picture. “We are always looking for beautiful or unique face features such as big bright eyes, high cheekbones, great smiles, clear skin and a great personality,” says Lubarda Stropnik. Some tips include not using hats or any kind of makeup in your pre-baby model pics. Also make sure baby’s hair is out of his or her eyes so your infant’s entire face is showing.
- Attitude Is Everything. Besides looking cute and being photogenic, a baby model needs to have a good attitude. If baby is temperamental, sitting for a photo shoot may be next to impossible, and unfortunately no amount of cuteness can compensate for that. Perhaps baby modeling is not his or her calling!
- Do Your Homework. Seeing that baby can’t speak up, you need to be his or her spokesperson. This means knowing where to go. “Parents should submit photos to model agencies which are specialized for children and baby modeling,” says Lubarda Stropnik. Don’t waste time with places that won’t be able to help you on your baby or infant modeling mission.
How Much Do Baby Models Make?
You wouldn’t walk into a new job not knowing how much you were going to make. The same rule applies to baby modeling. The pay rate for a baby model varies with the gig. Hourly rates range from $25 to $75 an hour, and if baby scores a “super gig” they may receive $125 an hour. But don’t get too excited—that’s not standard. Fifty dollars an hour is more the median rate.
Where Can I Sign My Baby Up for Modeling?
There are different routes to go to sign up baby for infant modeling. You can try one or a couple depending on how aggressive you want to be.
- Baby Modeling Contest. Finding a contest is as easy as googling one. Many times big name companies like Gerber and Gap sponsor annual contests looking for the next fresh face. If you submit your baby’s picture in one of these contests, you can ask friends and family to vote for your baby so she can become the next baby model.
- Open Casting Calls. This requires time and effort on your part. Keeping eyes and ears open is a big part of getting on board one of these baby modeling trains.
- Baby Modeling Agencies. Just as actors and actresses have agents to help them land gigs, so do baby models. Remember all of those great pictures you took? Send them off to several agencies. “All of the major baby campaign requests are sent by companies or casting directors to agencies,” says Lubarda Stropnik. Baby will get more gigs if she is “represented by a reliable model agency which works with the main baby brands,” according to Lubarda Stropnik.
Before you get swept up in all of the excitement of baby modeling, keep a mama bear eye out for scams. If it seems too good to be true that’s probably because it is. Always trust that parent’s intuition especially when it comes to business with your baby.

Baby modelling: Everything you need to know and reputable agencies
Our guide to baby modelling can help you find an agency and learn how much your child could get paid
- Sign up to our newsletter Newsletter
We all think our little ones are beautiful, but does your son or daughter have what it takes to join the baby modelling world and appear in campaigns for the likes of GAP, Pampers or Next?
Modelling is a rare profession that isn't just reserved for adults, with most agencies actively featuring children on their books for big-name clients and campaigns.
Products like nappies, toddler shoes and even newborn baby essentials like baby's prams all need people - or rather - babies to model them. And the industry is always on the lookout for new talent: particularly those who look cute and can smile or laugh on cue too.
With this in mind, we asked representatives from two reputable agencies to give us their insights into baby modelling, pay and trustworthy agencies.
How do I get my baby into baby modelling?
It all starts with a photo or two. Baby modelling agencies obviously need to see your budding child model to gauge if they have potential for the industry.
" First you need to send a few recent clear photos that you have taken," says Charlotte Evans, owner and director of Elisabeth Smith agency. "They can be just head shots but no hats or anything on their heads. They do not have to be professional and you don’t need a portfolio or website."
Bonnie Lia, founder of modelling agency Bonnie and Betty agrees: " You do not need expensive professional images, particularly for babies. They are changing too often and these will need updating regularly. Nice clear current snaps should be acceptable."

Once you have your photos, be sure to spend time researching the different agencies out there and reach out to one or two that appeal to you.
Find the agency's online application (usually found on their website), and send off your images. The agency will then be in touch if interested and will explain how to go about the next steps.
How much do baby models make in the UK?
Agents will put your child forward to clients for potential shoots and opportunities. If successful, your child will be paid for their time. Though fees vary and are dependent on a number of factors.
" The hourly rate is between £45 - £52.50 depending on the age of the child," says Charlotte Evans. This is generally the fee expected from shoots and is pretty synonymous across the board even if your baby is modelling for Gap or other big brands like Next and Pampers.
Bonnie suggests a similar rate and notes how the fee can increase for TV or if involved in a buyout deal.
"Typical fees start at around £60 per hour for photographic work to around £180 per day for a TV commercial," she says. "Then there's buyout fees which can go into the thousands for just one job. TV/Film work can start from around £60 per day upwards."
According to the agents, a buyout arrangement involves more money and is dependent on where the images are used. For example, Charlotte says that your fee will greatly increase if the images are being used in other countries or your child ends up as the face of Pampers nappy packets.
Bonnie also stresses that agencies can't guarantee a modelling income upfront. So, those who state this should not be trusted.
"Of course any agency who guarantees you work of any kind or a set amount of income should be avoided," she tells us. "We can't control who our clients book and so the popularity of one child to the next can differ lots."
What is the best age to start baby modelling?
The consensus on this is the sooner the better. Starting your child off young will mean they'll grow comfortable with being on set as they age.
"Often getting a baby in the studio early can help," says Bonnie Lia. "Studios can be extremely bright and daunting with lots of new faces around, so the more used to this they are, the better. If they have grown up knowing no different, this really helps."
Charlotte also says that newborns are at an optimum age to start baby modelling. "Although any age is okay if you have a baby that is happy to go to strangers," she says.
Charlotte adds that parents are always on set as chaperones during shoot days. She equally stresses that if a parent is not happy with any requests or behaviour, that they should contact their agency. Agents never encourage parents and their child to continue if they are not comfortable.
How do you know if a modelling agency is legit?
Research is key when first looking into baby modelling, according to Bonnie. She recommends parents conduct a thorough search on an agency before applying.
"Firstly, do your research before falling victim to any scams. We receive daily calls and emails from those who have unfortunately paid out hundred, sometimes even thousands, to scam agencies or portfolio companies for photos which then aren’t usable for agency purposes," she tells us. "Avoid sponsored listings, check out parent’s forums and ask other parents what agencies they are with."
Agency websites are a great way of gauging if a modelling agency is legit.
"Check out agency’s websites and look at their client list and recent work on their social media pages," Bonnie adds. "Can you see their models in recent jobs?"
A photo posted by on
Both agents state that budding baby models should not pay an application or joining fee either. This is a tell-tale sign that a modelling agency might not be legit.
The only potential upfront cost might be a small website fee to cover the admin of a website says Bonnie. Though this is usually after an agent has reviewed your application and is happy to take your little one on. In terms of fee, Bonnie tells us it "should be no more than £100, as a maximum."
It's important not to "feel pressured to join" either, adds Charlotte Evans. She tells us that parents should also steer clear of agencies that guarantee paid work. The nature of the industry means the choice of casting is firmly down to the clients and not the agents. They can only put your child forward for a gig.
What are the best baby modelling agencies to look at – and what to watch out for
We recommended parents go directly to a baby modelling agency's website. Here they can better understand what they are about and if they can be trusted.
According to Charlotte Evans, pop-up advertisements on social media platforms tend to appear too good to be true. These are things you should watch out for and instead go directly to the source.
The following baby modelling agencies have children who have appeared in campaigns for the likes of M&S, John Lewis, Very and Burberry. There's also evidence of their child models appearing in magazines like Tatler and Vanity Fair.
Best baby modelling agencies:
- Elisabeth Smith Agency (ran by Charlotte Evans, represents babies that live in London)
- Bonnie and Betty (founded by Bonnie Lia, have a London and Manchester division)
- Grace and Galor (for babies who live in or near London)
- Alphabet Kidz (for babies who live within 2 hours of central London)
- Bruce and Brown (represent babies that live in or near London)
- Model Mode Agency MMA (represent babies in Birmingham and the Midlands)
- Kids London Model Agency (has London and Manchester divisions)
What happens once my child is registered with an agency?
Once your child is registered with an agency, they can be put forward for work. So, expect a lot of liaising with your agency representative.
"Once your child is registered, depending on the agent, they will appear on the agencies website and then be put forward for suitable work," says Charlotte. "If your child is selected for a casting or job you will be contacted to check your availability and given the details of the job. A child performance licence will need to be obtained by the agent to allow your child to take part in if they are booked."
Bonnie Lia notes that "each agency will work in a slightly different way" but there are obviously common practices.
"Generally as a rule of thumb you wouldn’t be notified each and every time your child is being submitted for a job by their agent," she tells us. "Instead you would normally be contacted as and when one of agency’s clients ask to see your child for a casting, or on occasion, directly book from their photos for the job.
"It is vital, particularly with babies and toddlers (as they are changing so often), that you work closely with the agency to update them regularly with photos, measurements and updates," Bonnie adds. "This is because without these, the agency cannot do their jobs properly and in turn cannot be expected to achieve work for your child."
Unless otherwise informed, baby models are expected to be mostly available for shoots. So it's also recommended you forward on any unavailable dates.

Child Modeling Agencies
How to get your child scouted by child modeling agencies.
Do you have a natural born star? Do people stop you on the street to tell you how beautiful your baby is, or what a talented child you have? Are you thinking of signing your child to a modeling agency or starting them in acting classes? That’s fantastic!
Having a child star or model in the family can be a lot of fun, but it can also be a big commitment. Here are a few things to think about if you are thinking about a modeling or acting career for your child.
Having a budding star in the family often means that the parent takes on a new career along with their child. The parent is the one who will be doing the driving, making sure that their child gets to auditions on time , arrives on set when needed, and helps their child learn his or her lines for a commercial spot, television series or for a role in a film. It can also mean a lot of travel to other cities and even other countries.
If you, the parent or guardian of an up and coming child star, think you have what it takes, and can make that sort of commitment to start your child in a modeling or acting career then you are well on your way!
Getting Started as a Child Model
The first step to getting your child into modeling is to take some simple snapshots of your child and then have them seen by numerous modeling agents and scouts . The more agents and scouts who see them the better their odds are to become a successful child model. Your child does not need to attend modeling classes or have expensive photo shoots when first starting out.
If you live in a small market outside of New York, Los Angeles, Paris or Milan getting started can be tricky. Mailing your child’s photos is expensive, while sending them out on the internet can be time-consuming. Having a professional model scouting company like ModelScouts.com do the work for you is a great way for children to be seen by scouts for over 250 reputable agencies in a safe environment. With 35 years model management experience the scouts at ModelScouts.com have the know how to help your child get scouted by the world’s top modeling agencies.

Apply to be a model
Baby modelling is big business when it comes to promoting all kinds of products through advertising, as well as for newspaper and magazine articles, website photography and even television work.
We see their laughing faces peeping out at us from the labels of baby food jars, the sides of milk tins and the wrapping used on nappy packs and boxes. They smile up at us as they roll around under brightly coloured toys or clothed in soft and stylish babywear. And they join child models , female models and male models , in posing together as happy families to promote everything from home insurance and holidays to cars, interior decoration and garden furniture.
"My sons were chosen to do 2 days of shooting for a BBC series.... a treasured experience, my boys loved it! Can’t wait to do more!"
"Elsie had a fun two days on set in Wales for her Aptamil booking. A thoroughly enjoyable experience."
"Max was chosen as the Hero baby for Pampers . We are delighted and so proud of him. Katy for Max. Model fee: £1,620"
Every bouncing baby you see is someone’s beautiful baby boy or girl – and little ones from newborns up to one-year-olds are always in high demand. Twins , triplets and even quadruplets can be perfect for baby modelling. And babies of all sizes and appearances are required for an array of photography and film shoots so the more gorgeous faces we can offer our clients to choose from, the better!
Many baby models will be at the start of a long and exciting career in the industry – while others may be tiny tots who just take on a few jobs to help you earn a little extra income. As far as we are concerned, the most important thing is that they are jolly, smiley and more than happy to engage with people they don’t know, as this makes it so much easier for the professional photographers to carry out their shoots. Anyone starting to explore the world of baby modelling will find assignments vary greatly in the form they take, as well as the locations you might be asked to visit and the duration of the differing jobs. Whatever the work, however, we always ensure you have a clear understanding of what is required of both you and your precious bundle of joy. At Models Direct, we always put your baby first and we explain everything very carefully so you can decide whether or not to accept a job.
Baby modelling can be a wonderful experience for you and your little one. Contact us to find out more – and, you never know, this might be the start of a whole new exciting chapter of both your lives!

Hailey and Justin Bieber announced their pregnancy and showed off her baby bump in matching Instagram posts on Thursday.
A representative for Hailey Bieber confirmed to CBS News that the model is just over six months pregnant.
Hailey, 27, and Justin, 30, have been married for more than five years, after tying the knot in a courthouse in 2018 .
"Hailey and Justin are thrilled to be expecting a baby together. They have wanted this for a long time and can't wait to expand their family and bring a child into the world," a source told Entertainment Tonight .
The couple tagged each other in the Instagram caption as Hailey, dressed in a long white lace dress with a veil-like scarf wrapped around her head, cradled her baby bump.
In a press release, fashion house Yves Saint Laurent says the video and photoshoot are from the Biebers' vow renewal ceremony on Thursday in Hawaii, AP reported.
Justin Bieber has been vocal about his desire to have children with Hailey in social media posts.

Vogue model Sian Scale dies aged 28 from rare cancer
Share this with
Australian model Sian Scale has died from a rare form of cancer as family pay tribute in powerful statement.
The Melbourne-based model, 28, appeared in Vogue and Vanity Fair and worked with major fashion labels Marc Jacobs, Burberry and Chanel under her modelling agency Chadwick.
Tributes have poured in for Scale who was being treated for the rare form of cancer at Melbourne’s Peter McCallum center.
In an emotional statement her family said: ‘She was determined and strong and had such grace in navigating the most difficult year of her life with such acceptance, optimism and vulnerability.
‘Sian was very generous, loving, kind, fun, adventurous and modest.’
They went onto say she was ‘always willing to try something new’ and ‘did things on her own terms’.
‘Quickly making a name for herself as likeable and easygoing, Sian’s generous spirit and natural beauty saw her quickly snapped up as a model to watch in her home country,’ they added.
Her modelling agency also shared their ‘deep sadness’ at the news of Scale’s tragic death.
‘Sian was a bright and unique light in our world who unapologetically marched to her own beat. We will all miss her more than words can express, and her incredible work in pictures will immortalise her forever,’ the agency said.
Scale shared her final wish on social media. ‘If anyone wants to do anything in memory of me, it is to give blood – it is the gift of life,’ she said, according to the Mirror.
Scale grew up in Mansfield, around 124 miles northeast of Melbourne.

Biden-Harris Administration Finalizes Rule Expanding Public Agencies Ability to Fund Legal Representation on Behalf of Families Involved in Child Welfare
Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), announced a new regulation to expand access to legal representation for children who are eligible for title IV-E foster care, their parents, kinship caregivers, Indian custodians and tribe by allowing state and tribal child welfare agencies to use federal funds to provide legal representation.
“Children and families in the child welfare system face many scenarios where access to legal services could help to ensure their safety,” said HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. “This rule will allow child welfare agencies to use federal funds to help cover the costs of providing access to an attorney during civil legal proceedings when doing so would support a child’s needs.”
Many families that come to the attention of a child welfare agency are in the midst of, or recovering from, familial, health, housing or economic challenges. Research demonstrates that providing independent legal representation to parents and caregivers in civil legal proceedings prevents children from entering foster care and improves rates of reunification when children have been removed from the home.
“The foster care system should always be a last resort, and at ACF, we are focused on prevention and getting families the supports they need to thrive,” said ACF Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Jeff Hild. “This rule will ensure more families, young people and tribes have access to legal services that are often key to a family staying safely together.”
This rule also allows federal funds to pay for representation of tribes when they participate or intervene in state court foster care proceedings for Indian children.
For example, under the new rule, a child welfare agency could provide a family at risk of entering the foster care system with legal representation to help to secure stable housing, secure public benefits, or establish custody or guardianship to prevent the unnecessary removal of a child from the home. For Indian children placed in foster care, federal funds can pay for tribes’ attorneys or representatives to provide the court with critical information about the child’s tribe.
Additionally, a child welfare agency could use federal funds to pay for legal representation for a parent to obtain an order of protection against an abuser when doing so would help the parent prevent a child from entering foster care. The rule will also allow a child welfare agency to use federal funding to provide legal representation to a youth exiting foster care to help them access legal documents that will help them achieve independence and stability.

Hailey Bieber Is Pregnant! Model and Husband Justin Bieber Expecting First Baby Together
Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin, who first tied the knot in September 2018 after a two-month engagement, are expecting their first baby together
Hailey and Justin Bieber are going to be parents!
The Rhode founder and model, 27, and her musician husband, 30, are expecting their first baby together, sharing the exciting news on Instagram . A rep for Hailey confirms to PEOPLE that the model is just over six months pregnant.
Posting a video from their vow renewal, Hailey wears a long, lacy white dress and a veil, highlighting her growing bump. She also included a few photos, standing with Justin in a field. Placing his arms around her belly, Justin stands behind her, showing off their matching wedding rings.
The pregnant model kept her caption simple, just tagging her husband.
The couple tied the knot in September 2018 in a New York City courthouse just two months after getting engaged. They later celebrated with a larger ceremony in front of family and friends, exchanging vows and Tiffany wedding bands as the sun set in Bluffton, South Carolina.
In October, Hailey appeared on the cover of GQ Hype and addressed rumors about her being pregnant , commenting on whether or not they affected her. "Recently, everybody was like, 'Oh my God, she's pregnant,' and that's happened to me multiple times before," she told the outlet.
"There is something that's disheartening about, damn, I can't be bloated one time and not be pregnant? It would be a lie if I was like, 'Oh yeah, I don't give a s---.'"
Rory Kramer
"When there comes a day that that is true, you, you as in the internet, will be the last to know," she candidly added.
Although she has previously discussed raising her kids out of the spotlight, the model said at the time that she know feels that it's "probably totally unavoidable. That was before I was married. Didn't know who I was going to be married to at the time, I'm sure."
Despite her trepidations, the model said that motherhood "is something that I look forward to."
"It's also such a private, intimate thing. It's something that's going to come when it comes."
"And it's just, honestly, at the end of the day, so hilarious how much people f---ing care. Let me do what I want with my body and you guys can do what you want to do with your body — and let's just let it be that," she said.
Justin has long said that he wants to start a family with Hailey but noted in a December 2020 appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show that he was respecting his wife's timeline.
"I am going to have as many [babies] as Hailey is wishing to push out . I'd love to have myself a little tribe," the "Baby" singer said at the time. "But, yeah, it's her body and whatever she wants to do. ... I think she wants to have a few."

When asked by DeGeneres why the couple was waiting, Justin replied, "There's not really an issue."
"But I think Hailey still has some things she wants to accomplish as a woman, and I think ... she's just not ready yet. And that's okay," he said.
