Rogers to increase roaming costs to $12/day for U.S., $15 for international in March

Rogers will also extend the price cap on roaming from a maximum of 15 days to a maximum of 20 days per billing cycle..

Rogers plans to increase the cost of its ‘ Roam Like Home ‘ travel package again in March 2022.

According to a notice on Rogers’ website spotted by a MobileSyrup reader, the Toronto-based national carrier will increase the cost of both its U.S. Roam Like Home and International Roam Like Home packages by $2 and $1, respectively.

Currently, U.S. roaming costs $10 per day for a maximum of 15 days per billing cycle, or $150 maximum per bill. That means if you were to travel to the U.S. for, say, 17 days, you’d pay roaming for the first 15 days and not be charged for roaming on the 16th and 17th days. Alternatively, you can choose to use your phone only on certain days and only be charged for those days of use.

With the upcoming price change effective March 1st, U.S. Roam Like Home will cost $12/day for a maximum of 20 days (or $240 total). While the price increase itself isn’t huge, coupled with the extra days’ customers can be charged, it makes Roam Like Home a far more expensive option.

Similarly, Rogers’ International Roam Like Home costs $14/day for up to 15 days per billing cycle ($210 total). Starting March 1st, it’ll cost $15/day for up to 20 days per billing cycle. ($300 total).

As before, Roam Like Home lets customers use the data, minutes, and texts included in their Rogers plan while travelling in other countries. If you’re someone who travels to the U.S. often (although with the pandemic, this likely doesn’t apply to most), Rogers also offers a Canada+U.S. option for $20/mo on top of any of its ‘Infinite’ plans — the lowest being $80/mo, so with the add-on, $100/mo total. This feature can be applied when selecting a plan and, according to a Rogers FAQ page , grants customers access to calls, texts, and data while in the U.S. without additional roaming fees.

At the time of writing, Telus charged $11/day for U.S. roaming with a cap of $120 per billing cycle and $14/day for international roaming with a cap of $180 per billing cycle. Telus also currently offers a special roaming deal that only charges customers $60 for 30 consecutive days of U.S. roaming (the offer ends March 31st).

Bell charges $10/day for U.S. roaming and $14/day for international roaming, both up to a maximum of 20 days ($200 total and $280 total respectively).

Rogers delivers even more roaming value with new U.S. Travel Packs

Customers roam worry-free for less with new lower priced U.S. Travel Packs that include data, talk and text

Doubled the data on new U.S. Travel Packs – customers can use devices without fear of paying more than they expect

TORONTO , Nov. 14, 2013 /CNW/ – Rogers Communications,  Canada’s  leading diversified communications and media company, today announced the launch of its new U.S. Travel Packs that make roaming even easier and more affordable for customers. These monthly packs offer more of what customers want including double the data, additional minutes, and unlimited texts at lower prices – just in time for the busy holiday travel season.

Customers now have access to a variety of U.S. roaming offers, including four new Travel Packs and the $7.99 per day U.S. roaming wireless data and Internet rate. All offers deliver more value, as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to improve customers’ roaming experiences and offer better cost certainty.

“Our simplified Travel Pack line-up enables our customers to roam with confidence and use their devices when they are south of the border just as they would at home – without worrying about paying more than expected,” said Raj Doshi, senior vice president, product, Rogers Communications. “We’ve reduced prices and delivered more value in our U.S. Travel Packs to ensure customers continue to stay connected with access to even more data, voice and text services at an affordable rate.”

Details on U.S. roaming offers are as follows:

Valid for up to one month, the new Travel Packs are recommended for customers travelling to the U.S. for longer periods of time or who want a combination of voice, text and data – all in one convenient package. Launched this May, the $7.99 U.S. wireless data and Internet roaming rate offers up to 50 MB of data per day and is ideal for consumers and small business customers that are travelling for shorter periods of time.  Customers who elect not to purchase a U.S. Travel Pack will automatically take advantage of the $7.99 per day wireless data and Internet rate.

To keep customers connected at fast network speeds while travelling, Rogers was the first Canadian carrier to offer LTE roaming in the U.S., as well as in Switzerland , France , Hong Kong and South Korea .

Rogers, Telus and Bell Debut $105/100GB Unlimited Canada-US Plans

bell unlimited data plan 2023

Bell’s website change from 60GB to 100GB; pricing shown is for 2 lines

Ahead of spring break holidays, Rogers, Telus and Bell have debuted new unlimited data plans with U.S. roaming.

Telus made changes to their website yesterday, debuting the Unlimited CAN-US 100 5G+ plan, priced at $105 per month with 100GB of data, that includes US roaming for talk, text and data.

Rogers and Bell changed their websites today offering similar Canada-US roaming plans as well. All three carriers have since removed their 60GB unlimited Canada-US plans, replacing them with a 100GB Canada-US plan instead.

Rogers previously had its 100GB Canada-US plan for $125 per month and 60GB Canada-US plan for $105 per month. But the 60GB plan has now been replaced with 100GB, just like Telus and Bell.

rogers $105/100GB

Here’s the new plan showing on the Telus website:

telus $105/100GB usa canada

…and on the Bell website:

Bell $105/100GB plan 2023

We got a glimpse of what was coming after we shared Telus was offering an EPP deal with a $65/100GB 5G+ plan . These new Canada-US plans come ahead of spring break and U.S. roaming price increases to Telus Easy Roam and Bell Roam Better in the coming week or so.

Other unlimited data plans of $85/25GB and $95/40GB remain at Rogers. Telus and Bell still have $85/25GB and $95/50GB plans too. The 25GB unlimited plan from all three carriers is at reduced speeds of 250 Mbps.

Customers travelling to the U.S. are better off switching to one of these plans temporarily, versus paying daily roaming rates.

Or better yet, use an eSIM provider such as  Airalo  (save 10% off with coupon  IPHONEINCANADA  until Dec. 31, 2023) or  Keepgo (get 3GB free)  to buy data for cheaper prices than roaming with your provider. Use an app such as  TextNow for free voice and regular texting, them use the eSIM data for iMessage voice/audio and FaceTime calls.
