matlab R2015a in Linux: Can't copy paste with conventional way

It seems that in linux version 'matlab R2015a' copy paste can not be done with 'Ctrl+c' and 'Ctrl+v'. So how can I solve this? Is there any way to reconfigure matlab' to do this by, 'Ctrl+c' and 'Ctrl+v'.

MATLAB has a preferences setting for keyboard shortcuts: it defaults to Emacs-compatible settings on Unix/Linux platforms, but you can change it to Windows-compatible settings Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V using the preferences menu:

Create Shortcuts to Frequent Tasks

You can create shortcuts in projects to perform common project tasks, such as opening important files and loading data.

Run Shortcuts

To run a shortcut, in the Project Shortcuts tab, click the shortcut. Clicking a shortcut in the Project Shortcuts tab performs the default action for the file type. For example, MATLAB ® runs .m shortcut files and loads .mat shortcut files. If the shortcut file is not on the path, MATLAB changes the current folder to the parent folder of the shortcut file, runs the shortcut, and then changes the current folder back to the original folder.

Alternatively, in the Files view, you can right-click the shortcut file and select Run . If the script is not on the path, then MATLAB asks if you want to change folder or add the folder to the path.

Create Shortcuts

To create a shortcut from an existing project file:

In the Files view, right-click the file and select Create Shortcut . Alternatively, on the Project Shortcuts tab, click New Shortcut and browse to select a file.

The Create New Shortcut dialog box opens.

Select an icon and enter a name. If using shortcuts to define steps in a workflow, consider prefixing their names with numbers.

To add the shortcut to an existing group, in the Group field, select a group from the drop-down list. For more information about shortcut groups, see Organize Shortcuts .

Shortcuts are included when you commit your modified files to source control, so you can share shortcuts with other project users.

Organize Shortcuts

You can organize shortcuts by categorizing them into groups. For example, you might create one group of shortcuts for loading data, another for opening files, another for generating code, and another for running tests.

To create a shortcut group:

On the Project Shortcuts tab, click Organize Groups .

Click the Create button.

Enter a name for the group and click OK .

The new shortcut group appears on the Project Shortcuts tab.

To move a shortcut into a group:

On the Project Shortcuts tab, right-click a shortcut and select Edit Shortcut . Alternatively, in the Files view, right-click a file and select Edit Shortcut .

In the Group field, select a group from the drop-down list and click OK .

Shortcuts are organized by group in the Project Shortcuts tab.

I created some AutoHotkey shortcuts to make it easier to execute arbitrary lines of code in the MATLAB Editor. They include:

• Alt + Enter : Execute the line I am currently editing/typing
• Alt + Left Click : Execute the line just clicked
• Alt + Mouse Select : Execute selected code

Here, I’ll show you some examples of using them. AHK file is below.

How to Assign/Remap Keyboard Shortcuts for Better Productivity in Linux

By default, Ubuntu comes with a set of keyboard shortcuts that you can use straight away. However, you may not like the default mappings of some of these keyboard shortcuts. They might be assigned to shortcuts you’re used to using for something else, disrupting your productivity. For example, if you have a keyboard with a media button, that button is automatically mapped to Rhythmbox. If your favorite media player is VLC, you may want to change the keyboard shortcut to your favorite application.

There are several ways to manage your keyboard shortcuts in Linux. You can do it via Xmodmap (and Xkeycaps) or through your desktop environment’s keyboard/shortcut settings. This article will focus mainly on how to change the shortcuts or assign new ones on two of the most popular desktop environments, Gnome and KDE.

To assign new shortcuts to Gnome on Ubuntu and remap the existing ones, press the Super key on your keyboard or click on Gnome’s Applications button to visit the main software menu. Start typing either keyboard or shortcuts and select the entry Keyboard Shortcuts when it shows up.

From here, you can scroll down the list to find the particular keyboard shortcut you want to change.

Click on the existing shortcut and, when prompted, press the new key combination you want to change it to. For example, the default shortcut to show the run command prompt is Alt + F2 . If you want to change it, click on it, and hit the new combo of your hoice, such as Alt + F12 .

You can also create your own keyboard shortcut and assign it to run an application, a command, or a script. Click the button with the plus symbol at the very end of the list.

The process is pretty straightforward: enter the name for your new shortcut and the command that will run with it in the Name and Command fields. Finally, click on the “Set Shortcut … ” button and, when prompted, press your desired key combination. Immediately, the window will update to include the combo you pressed.

If you decide you don’t want a shortcut you’ve added, click on it to select it, then click on the red Remove button on the top-left corner of the window that will pop up.

Note that you can only remove shortcuts you’ve added and not the existing ones. You can only un-assign the existing ones so that their function stops being accessible through a button combination. To do that, click on an existing shortcut. Instead of pressing a new key combo when prompted, press Backspace on your keyboard. You’ll be returned to the previous screen, but now the key combination for the shortcut will have disappeared.

To do the same thing in a modern version of KDE’s plasma desktop, hit the Super key on your keyboard or click on its main menu button and choose “System Settings.”

When there, choose the Shortcuts entry in the workspace category on the left of the window.

KDE is more complicated but also offers much more control since it splits its shortcuts into different groups.

In Global Shortcuts, you will find keyboard combinations added to the system by both KDE and any installed applications. To change a shortcut that already exists, click on it and choose Custom instead of Default. Then, click on the button on the right of Custom and press your desired key combination when asked.

In Standard Shortcuts you will meet keyboard combinations that are generally considered standard, no matter the desktop environment or even operating system.

Web shortcuts are different in that they are not mapped to keyboard combinations but keywords. Those aren’t available everywhere and are accessible either through Krunner or in Konqueror’s address bar. For example, since DuckDuckGo’s search is mapped to the dd shortcut, if you’d like to search for Make Tech Easier, you can press Alt + F2 , type dd:make tech easier , and hit Enter. Soon after, Konqueror will show up with your query open on DuckDuckGo’s page.

Custom Shortcuts contains even more specialized shortcuts and is also the place where you can add your own to the mix. Right-click on an empty spot, and a pop-up menu will allow you to create new global shortcuts, window actions, or mouse gesture actions. A sub-menu also enables you to choose if the result will be a Command/URL, D-Bus Command, or Send Keyboard Input.

After you create a new entry, you can enter a short description of what that shortcut is supposed to do in the Comment tab, define the shortcut (or gesture) itself in the Trigger tab, and, finally, enter the command (or URL) in the Action tab.

If you don’t click on Apply on the bottom right to enable your tweaks, KDE will make sure to bug you about it to ensure you don’t lose any changes you made.

Keyboard shortcut to exit matlab command prompt?

I've been using the command-line matlab interface ( matlab --nodesktop ) a lot lately.

When I want to jump out of matlab and back to my bash shell, my instinct is to do Ctrl + D . I guess the bash and python shortcuts conditioned me to automatically do Ctrl + D . Problem is, matlab wants me to type exit instead of hitting Ctrl + D .

Is there a way to convince matlab to let me exit the command line interface by doing Ctrl + D ?

I have just checked and it is indeed possible to exit matlab with a hotkey. The default setting is Ctrl + Q but of course you can change this as described on the Mathworks blog .

Setting it is most easily done without -nodesktop , but the hotkeys do work in nodesktop mode.

• It's been a while since this was asked, but in 2018 Ctrl+Q still doesn't work for me when using -nodesktop in Ubuntu Linux. The same shortcut does work fine on the same system when using the GUI. I would love a solution for this as well but outside of a text-expander utility or other outside-Matlab hack, there doesn't seem to be one. –  Matt Apr 14, 2018 at 20:50

Improvements

• The Previous and Next tab actions are now more discoverable . We added these actions to the GoTo menu.
• EAP builds of the Toolbox App are now available for your Linux ARM64 systems. The Toolbox App makes it easier to install, automatically update, and roll back Fleet and other JetBrains tools.
• Fleet 1.33 introduces an action that closes all tabs except unsaved ones .

We’ve also fixed a number of bugs:

• Now, ESLint and Stylint replace the default formatter.
• Syntax highlighting no longer breaks in TextMate supported files when adding a new line.
• F# files now have syntax highlighting.
• Copy-pasting no longer breaks indentation of nested lists.

Support for plugins and plugin APIs is a work in progress, but the list of installed (bundled) plugins is now available and visible to everyone. To view it, simply select Plugins in the Actions menu.
