Use LSEG Workspace (formerly Refinitiv).

  • To find analyst reports (also known as sell-side, broker, or equity research reports) for a specific company, search for that firm's ticker symbol or name in the top search box. Then, on the News & Research  menu, click on Company Research . Use filters near the top of the page to refine your search.
  • To screen for analyst reports based on a set of criteria, type  ADVRES in the search bar and select the Research Advanced Search app, or click on  Research in the main menu. then, click on Advanced Research . You can filter for reports by industry, geography, contributor, keywords, and more.

Note: LSEG Workspace has a  150-page daily limit for viewing and downloading research content. This limit is in lieu of retail prices listed on reports and resets at 12:00 AM Eastern Time daily.

Bloomberg (see access details ) contains some analyst reports.

  • Type your company's ticker symbol, then hit the yellow EQUITY key, then type DSCO and hit the green GO key.
  • To find reports by industry or keyword, type RES and hit the green GO key.

Morningstar equity research reports and analyst cash flow models can be found in PitchBook .

Hoovers contains some analyst reports as well.

  • Type in a company name and select the company you want.
  • Scroll down the screen; if available, analyst reports appear under Advanced on the left side.

New! Equity & industry investment research via S&P Capital IQ

Good news! SFU researchers now have access to investment research reports via our S&P Capital IQ database!

From the publisher:

Access company and industry research reports from contributors and publishers, including brokerage, consulting and research firms. Search by company name or ticker, keywords, published date, document type (e.g., EPS Estimates, Industry Overview, etc.), document language, author (contributors or publishers), industry, geographical region and country.

This new content is integrated into different parts of the database.  Here are a few tips for digging it up...

how to find equity research reports on capital iq

Just search for a publicly-traded company in the top left corner, then look for Research  among the company-specific options on the left side of the screen. (It's quite far down the list. Just keep swimming scrolling!)

2. Search by Industry

Choose Markets at the top of the screen, then Industry (left side), then choose the option to Refine your industry selection. (Screenshot)

how to find equity research reports on capital iq

Once you've set your target industry, you should see several categories of relevant information, including an Investment Research section with recent equity analysis reports on companies in that industry.

3. Use the Research tab at the top of the screen

how to find equity research reports on capital iq

This approach will take you to a Quick Search screen that covers all of the Investment Research available in our CapIQ database. I'm sure you can figure it out from there, but here are a few highlights of content to watch out for, as well as a couple nonintuitive search tips.

CFRA as a contributor -- CFRA  bought S&P's equity research unit  a few years ago, which meant that core publications from S&P Global such as the S&P Industry Surveys were rebranded as CFRA titles. The content is still very useful, regardless of whose name is in the publication title. Search for CFRA in the Contributor content to focus on such publications as... (links go to screenshots of report covers):

  • CFRA Industry Surveys
  • CFRA Stock Reports
  • CFRA Quantitative Stock Reports

Exchange Traded Fund Reports  -- To find reports on Exchange Traded Funds, just search for ETF: in the keyword field , and limit the search to the headline only.  (And yes, do include the colon in your search.)

Mutual Funds -- To find reports on US Mutual Funds, search for MF: in the keyword field ... also in the headline only and with a colon at the end.

P.S.: Bonus tip for reading this far: Because we also have a Compustat subscription via WRDS , S&P turned on Compustat data in our CapIQ subscription for many firms.  This means that when you search for a publicly traded company such as Bombardier or Apple, you can scroll down the left side and you'll often find both Financials (CapIQ data) and Compustat Financials (Compustat data) for your target firm.

Venture Capital on Capital IQ

Using Capital IQ, you can create a screen for venture capital investors using type, industries of interest, investment size, and other criteria.  From your dashboard, or any other screen on Capital IQ, place your cursor over the tab titled Screening ,  on the horizontal row of tabs near the top of the page. When prompted with the Screening submenu, select Find Buyers or Investors,  under the heading  Targeting.

how to find equity research reports on capital iq

Select Your Criteria

Choose the criteria you want for your screen from the box on the left, on the next page. Capital IQ offers five criteria groups:

  • Stages (the stage of the investment life of the target, as well as investment type)
  • Investment (the monetary size of the investments and/or the investor, in millions)
  • Geographies

After selecting your criteria, make sure to press the gray Add to Criteria list on the bottom right of the criteria box. Make sure you do this for each of the types of criteria you are adding (up to five), to make sure all of your criteria is added to the screen.

how to find equity research reports on capital iq

Refine Criteria

After you select your criteria, the box on the right of the screen will reflect the criteria you have selected, under the tab Selected Criteria .

You can further refine your search criteria with five more categories:

  • Company Types
  • Investment and Advisory Firms
  • Operating Status
  • Ownership Status
  • Direct Investments

If you are screening for venture capital firms alone, for example, you can first unselect all criteria under the criteria groups Company Types and Investment and Advisory Firms , and next select Private Investment Firm under Company Types , and PE/VC under Investment and Advisory Firms . This will lead your screen to find only venture capital and private equity firms.

how to find equity research reports on capital iq

After selecting your criteria (and refining it, if needed), select Run Search.  You will next see the list of investors that matched your screening criteria. You can customize your results list to add data sets (such as company address, market capitalization, etc.,), by selecting the tab labeled  Customize Display Column, and using the search engine there to find the data set you want to add to your results list.

How to find research reports? Have CapIQ, Factset

I'm looking for research reports on the construction or milling industries in Canada/US and it's my first time using CapIQ and Factset and I'm not having much luck.

There's no pre-existing data since I'm at a boutique. Would you guys happen to have some good resources on how to find it? Or even where I should be looking on Capital IQ (I did an Advanced screening search)

I don't have any silver bananas, but I'll buy some if anyone can help. I'm not asking for any reports itself or any proprietary information, just thought CapIQ would be the best way but am struggling a bit with all the information here.

The following library databases offer access to analyst reports:

Mergent Online

To search for and download reports, select the  Investext  tab from the navigation bar at the top of the page. You can choose from a range of criteria to narrow your search, including company name, industry, or keyword.

Analyst Research for a specific company can also be found from within a Company Profile in Mergent Online. To view available reports, click the Company Reports tab and select  Broker Research Reports  from the sub-navigation menu.

In most instances, reports will be made available in Mergent Online 1-3 days after the original date of publication.

Analyst reports contain advice on whether to buy or sell the securities of specific companies or industries. They are produced by research analysts employed by firms that may have an interest in selling securities; however, they can provide a useful model to students in understanding how investment professionals analyze an industry and what data points they find of most interest. The databases listed below contain analyst reports and other data used for company and industry research.

  • Emerging Market Information System (EMIS): Once in a country's page in the database, click "Industry" and then select "Industry Research" to see whether any investment bank analyst reports are available.
  • Capital IQ and S&P Capital IQ Pro both contain a number of investment reports. Register for these databases using your Harvard email address. Use the same password for both databases.
  • FactSet : Platform used to analyze financial data from global equity and fixed income markets.
