Google Assistant Now Lets You Send Reminders to Other People
![google assignable reminders google home mini](https://media.wired.com/photos/5d549bf2b558560009d18069/master/w_2560%2Cc_limit/gear_google_1139417694.jpg)
These days, any moderately skilled virtual assistant can serve your immediate needs—tell me the weather, play me a song— and anticipate the things you’ll need later. Ask Apple’s Siri , Amazon’s Alexa , or Google's Assistant to set a reminder, and at some point you’ll get a nudge on your smartphone or smart home device to complete the task.
Google is now doubling down on its reminders feature, creating a tool that will either extend the utility of reminders as we now know them or become the future of passive-aggressive communication between house partners. The new feature is called Assignable Reminders, and it’s rolling out over the next few weeks in the US, the UK, and Australia. It will work on Android smartphones and iPhones, smart speakers, smart displays—anything that runs the Google Assistant.
Instead of just reminding yourself to do something, you’ll be able to send the reminder to someone else to do your bidding. This person has to be someone in your Google Contacts and, beyond that, they either have to be in your Google family group (which is limited to six people) or have their account linked to the Assistant-equipped IoT gadget you’re using at home. You can't send everyone in your contacts a reminder to do something—just people you’re close with or live in close quarters with.
In a demonstration last week, Google product managers Glenn Wilson and Shikha Kapoor ran through a few examples of how this could work. Kapoor used voice control to ask the Assistant on a Google smart display to remind Wilson to pick up the dry cleaning in the evening. The Google Assistant interpreted that as around 6 pm, though Kapoor said you could request that the reminder pop up at a specific time and that the Assistant can learn schedules over time. The reminder would then pop on on Wilson’s smartphone, or on his smart display at home.
The Assistant also taps into location data to surface a reminder when a person happens to be in the vicinity of the errand that needs to be completed. And, speaking of completed errands, you can also ask the Google Assistant which reminders have been checked off the list—again, either a welcome added convenience or a superb way to micromanage your household from afar.
Wilson noted that the Assignable Reminders feature isn’t enabled by any remarkable or new technological change but, rather, by a shift in how people are using devices that run Google Assistant. “The shift we’re seeing is that people are buying more and more communal devices—things like Google Home Mini speakers and Google Nest Hubs. Being able to associate people in that communal setting is what’s new over the past few years.”
Wilson added that privacy was one of the bigger concerns Google had before building these kinds of reminders on top of existing reminder features. Kids under 13, for example, have to be granted access to the Assistant on Google Home by adults in the household, and any user has the ability to block someone from sending them Assignable Reminders.

Beyond potential privacy pitfalls, though, there’s the ever-present question about what kind of impact these AI-supported interactions have on our very human relationships. And Google, having built what is arguably the most capable consumer-facing virtual assistant to date, is often the company that needs to answer these questions.
Last year, at its annual software conference, the company showed off technology that allowed a bot to conduct a natural-sounding phone conversation, and the humans in the audience (myself included) questioned the ethics of such an eerily deceptive virtual assistant. Google later said it would be sure to build in a communications protocol that would let a human know if they were talking to a bot. But even with that promised protocol, the fact that the Assistant was so good at its job hinted at a future of us outsourcing our most uncomfortable tasks to a robot.
Assigned Reminder could very well fall into that category, too. “I totally expect that the Google Assistant team is just trying to create more value for users,” says Matt Rolandson, a partner at the San Francisco–based design consultancy Ammunition Group. “But by creating something where you have to exert such little effort and thought into asking people for things, we could end up talking to each other much less politely.”
Rolandson points to the other tools we use for hyperefficient communication: messaging, social media, and so on. “It’s this age-old question as to whether it’s our characters expressed through technology that create our relationships with people, or it’s the character of the technology itself that ends up defining our relationships,” he says.
It’s hard to know exactly how this tool will be used until Google Assistant users start firing off reminders to the people closest to them. But building some additional communication protocol around the reminders—an ability to thank someone, for example—might be a nice touch in our futuristic world run by bots. Asking nicely or thanking the person in real life might do the trick too.

You Can Now Assign Google Assistant Reminders to People
Google Assistant's Assignable Reminders let you remind friends and family to perform certain tasks at certain times or locations.
You can now set reminders for other people using Google Assistant. Assignable Reminders let you remind friends and family to perform certain tasks at certain times. Or even when they reach a certain location. Which could be both useful and annoying.
How to Assign Google Assistant Reminders
Google launched Assignable Reminders in a post on The Keyword . Glenn Wilson makes it clear that Google has launched this feature to coincide with the kids returning to school. Which is a busy and stressful time for parents and children alike around the world.
Google explains that you can now "create reminders for your partner or roommate to do things like pick up the groceries, pay a recurring bill, walk the dog---or send them a note of encouragement when they need it the most".
To assign a reminder, ask Assistant, "Hey Google, remind [Name] to take out the trash at 7pm", "Hey Google, remind [Name] to pick up flowers when she gets to New York", or "Hey Google, remind [Name] that she will do great on tomorrow's exam".
Assignable Reminders are rolling out on phones, speakers, and smart displays in the US, UK, and Australia. You can assign reminders to people in your Google family group or those with their accounts linked to the same speaker or smart display.
How to Get More Out of Google Assistant
Assignable Reminders are clearly a potentially useful feature. Particularly for busy families who have far too much going on in their lives. However, Assignable Reminders could also be misused for nagging people to do stuff they don't want to do.

We all know how it feels to have countless to-dos, making it hard to know where to start. With all the daily demands, having a simple way to organize and keep track of various tasks helps you get one step closer to checking them off your list.
The ideal solution meets you where your thoughts and your productive moments happen — whether you’re in the midst of working on your laptop, making a to-do list on your phone, or just need a way to capture thoughts while on the go. This is why we’re making it easier for our products to work better together, no matter where or how you work.
Millions of people use Google to help them stay on top of their everyday to-dos across Google Assistant, Calendar and Tasks. Soon, we’ll be simplifying our task management solutions by migrating Assistant and Calendar Reminders to Google Tasks. This means you will now have an easy way to view and manage all your to-dos in one place through Google Tasks, regardless of whether you create them using Assistant or Calendar.
Get it all done with Google Tasks
Google Tasks helps users get stuff done with a simple and productive solution across their personal and professional lives. It can sync across your devices, so your lists and tasks go with you, wherever you are. Plus, you can easily access Tasks from your favorite Google Workspace apps like Gmail, Calendar and Chat.
Here are a few ways you can get more done with Google Tasks:
- Use the “Add to tasks” button in Gmail so important action items don’t get lost in your inbox
- Create tasks directly from Google Chat to turn a thought into a clear action
- Create a task in Google Calendar so you can pick the perfect time to get it done
- Sort the tasks you create into lists and star the ones that are most important to you
Once you’ve captured and organized your tasks, you can keep track of your progress by marking them as complete to show what you’ve accomplished.
Create from anywhere, manage centrally
Bringing Assistant Reminders capabilities to Google Tasks also opens up new and better ways to capture your to-dos using the hands-free power of Assistant. Just say, “Hey Google, remind me to call dad every Thursday at 6pm” to your mobile or smart display and it will show up in your Tasks list, as well as on Google Calendar. And don’t worry, if you specify a date or time, you will also get a notification when it's time to complete the task so you don't forget.
Unlock a better experience
In the coming months, when you use Assistant or Calendar to create or view reminders, you'll see a notification on your phone or computer that will prompt you to be one of the first to try the new Tasks experience. Simply open the notification to move your reminders into Google Tasks so you can manage all your to-dos in one place. We'll also share more details on the Workspace Updates Blog ahead of any changes.
We are continuing to invest in Google Tasks and expand its capabilities to help you capture, organize and accomplish all you have to get done. Moving reminders into Google Tasks is one step closer to helping people effortlessly get things done, and we are so excited to bring it to you.

You can now send Google Assistant reminders to forgetful ones in your family
Published on August 15, 2019
![google assistant on the google pixel 3 1 google pixel 3 in hand google assistant voice](https://www.androidauthority.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/google-assistant-on-the-google-pixel-3-1.jpg)
Google has announced a new feature for Google Assistant , called assignable reminders, and it might be ideal for forgetful loved ones.
Once you send a reminder to someone via Assistant, the recipient will get a notification on their smart display and smartphone. They’ll get notified again at the exact time you asked Assistant to remind them. Assignable reminders also work for location-based reminders with a specific physical address.
As expected, you can’t just send reminders to random people. Senders and recipients must be in the same Google family group or have their Google accounts linked and voice-matched to the same smart display or speaker. Recipients must also be in your Google Contacts.

You can also block anyone from sending you reminders through the assignable reminders section in Assistant settings . This might be handy if someone is abusing the system.
Assignable reminders will be available over the next few weeks in English. The feature will roll out to phones, speakers, and smart displays in the U.S., U.K., and Australia, along with the Google Nest Hub Max when it launches this fall.

Google Calendar and Assistant Reminders will migrate to Google Tasks soon
What’s changing.
As previously announced , in the coming months, we’ll migrate Reminders from Google Calendar and Google Assistant to Google Tasks to create a single experience for managing to-dos across Google.
Users can create tasks from Calendar and using the hands-free power of Assistant, similar to how they previously created Reminders. Additionally, unlike with Reminders, they can create tasks from other Google Workspace apps like Gmail, Docs and Chat, or directly from the Tasks app.
If you’re a Google Workspace customer with the Tasks service ON in your organization, your end users can voluntarily migrate beginning April 12, 2023. This migration prompt will appear for users with personal accounts starting on March 6, 2023.

- Enable your organization to use Google Takeout , in case your users want to export their Assistant and Calendar Reminders.
- If your end users want to use Assistant to manage tasks after the migration, be sure to adjust settings for Search and Assistant users .
- You’ll see a prompt in Assistant and Calendar to move reminders created in these apps to Tasks beginning on April 12, 2023.
- If you want a copy of your reminders data and Takeout is enabled for your organization, export your Reminders data before June 22, 2023.
- You’ll see a prompt in Assistant and Calendar to move reminders created in these apps to Tasks beginning on March 6, 2023.
- If you haven’t already migrated, Assistant and Calendar reminders will begin to automatically migrate in Q2. We’ll share more information on this timeline in a future update on the Workspace Updates blog.

Google Assistant’s reminders will soon nag your significant other for you
![google assignable reminders google assignable reminders](https://www.digitaltrends.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/google-assignable-reminders-on-hub.jpg?fit=720%2C720&p=1)
As it stands now, reminders can be created to be triggered based on time and location, but there’s no way for you to create them for other people easily. With the change, you’ll now be able to assign them to others within your household.
It works like this: Say, for example, you wanted to remind your husband, Greg, to take out the trash this evening, so it’s out for pickup tomorrow. Saying something like “Hey, Google, remind Greg to take out the trash at 8 p.m.,” would not only send an immediate notification to Greg’s Google Assistant-enabled devices but remind him again at the time you set.

Like traditional reminders, assigned reminders can also be set to be triggered by arrival or departure from locations the user specifies, the company said. While a relatively minor change to Google Assistant overall, for busy homes, the new feature seems like the 21st-century version of Post-It notes on the refrigerator.
This latest move follows a recent change in how Google handles reminders on Android devices. As first spotted by Android Police last week, reminders now must go through Google Assistant. If you have the Assistant turned off, you’ll lose access to Reminders completely.
While the change seemed to annoy Android loyalists who eschew Google’s digital assistant, perhaps those changes were necessary to make these new assignable reminders work correctly. Google Assistant delivers reminder notifications now, and if the person you want to remind isn’t using Assistant, they won’t receive the reminder.

Google Home is one of the best smart home platforms of 2023. Some of its benefits are obvious -- such as being able to dish out voice commands or check in on all your gadgets in one location using the smartphone app -- but others are a bit more obscure. In fact, some of the best Google Home features can’t be found without a bit of digging.
To help you get the most out of Google Home, here’s a long list of tips, tricks, and even a few Easter eggs to maximize the system’s potential. Whether you’re looking to easily connect all your smart home gadgets or just want a funny trick to show off at your next party, there’s bound to be something you didn’t know about Google Home listed below. 'Hey, Google'
Smart assistants are an indispensable part of any smart home, making it easy to give hands-free commands and control a variety of gadgets. Google is looking to further streamline the performance of its smart assistant, with the expansion of chime alerts to cut down on how talkative your Google Nest gadgets are when responding to instructions.
For example, after asking Google to turn on a fan, you’ll now be able to hear a quick chime to confirm the assistant has heard your instructions. Previously, confirmation would come in the form of a short sentence, such as “OK, turning on your fan.”
Google Assistant is one of the most popular smart home assistants of 2023, but it looks like big changes are in store for the remainder of the year. According to an updated support page, Google won’t be pushing any more Assistant updates to select third-party smart displays.
The Lenovo Smart Display, LG Xboom AI ThinQ WK9, and JBL Link View are the three smart displays in question -- and if you currently have them in your home, don’t expect to see further updates for their Assistant platform. They will, of course, continue to function as they did before this announcement, but they won’t receive any more software updates to enhance their performance.

Google Assistant Will Soon Let You Assign Reminders for Friends and Family
Google Assistant is about to gain a new reminder feature that allows you to get someone else to do your bidding.
![google assignable reminders google assistant ios](https://images.macrumors.com/t/o37sYN8-qXDav8wbfCuCS9f6ozI=/400x0/article-new/2017/05/google-assistant-ios.jpg?lossy)
You can create a reminder using your voice ("Hey Google") or text, and set it to be delivered to a phone or via a smart device at a certain time, or make it geo-location aware so it shows up when the person arrives at a particular place, like the home or office.
According to Google, Assignable Reminders can be set to repeat, and you'll be able to check a history of reminders you sent to other people and any that have been assigned to you.
For children under 13 to use assignable reminders, they must be granted access to the Assistant on Google Home by adults in the household, and all users can block someone from sending them Assignable Reminders.
Assignable Reminders will roll out over the next few weeks in the U.S., the U.K., and Australia. The feature will work on Google's smart speakers, Android devices, and iPhones and iPads with the Google Assistant app installed.
Google's Assistant app is a free download for iOS, available on the App Store . [ Direct Link ]

How to assign a Google Assistant reminder
![google assignable reminders google assignable reminders](https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/VG8d4wDebi4ULkxKQofwHQ-320-80.jpg)
Google Assistant is great for doing a whole bunch of things, but one of the best perks of having a digital assistant at your beck and call is the ability to quickly add helpful reminders of all sorts for you and your family. Reminders made with Google Assistant are entirely customizable and can be set up for events of all sorts, from events recurring weekly, monthly, one-off reminders throughout your day. Here's how to set them up.
How to set a reminder using Google Assistant
You can use Google Assistant to remind you about a number of things. You can create a simple reminder for any errands or grocery items you need to get as you head out the door using a Google Assistant-enabled smart speaker or smart display, but if it's a more complex reminder that repeats you'll need to add that extra context on your phone.
- Using your phone, Google Home speaker, or Google Assistant smart display, say the "OK Google" wake words.
- Tell Google Assistant what you want to be reminded of in plain English and include a specific time and date if possible.
- Google Assistant may ask you to fill in any additional details, such as a time and date.
![google assignable reminders google assignable reminders](https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5GXQxng2AXUwR82XPS4EBb-320-80.jpeg)
If you're setting up a more complicated recurring reminder, it's best to stick to using Google Assistant on your phone and use the dropdown menus to select a specific day of the week, set a rate of occurrence of the reminder on a weekly, monthly, or yearly basis, and finely tune the time of day that you wish to be reminded.
![google assignable reminders google assignable reminders](https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oB766XGDxCRoTbmtkxruzV-320-80.jpeg)
You can ask Google Assistant to read out your upcoming reminders or ask it to pull them up as a list on your phone. Set reminders will automatically appear in the Google Calendar app and as part of your daily briefing on any smart display enabled with Google Assistant.
To dismiss a reminder, you simply need to tap its checkbox to complete the reminder or swipe it to the right to clear it in the Calendar app.
Conversational language works just fine
Google Assistant is able to parse out the details of your reminder request without too much fuss just as long as you include all the details it needs. Your reminder voice command should contain the thing you want to be reminded about along with the date and time you wish to be reminded.
For example, if you've got an important appointment at the bank tomorrow, you would say "OK Google, remind be about my bank appointment tomorrow morning" and the reminder will be added to your list of active reminders and added to the corresponding date and time in your Google Calendar.

If you're opting for a more casual reminder for any time of day, it's important to note what times Google will use. The default time for a morning reminder is 8:00 a.m., while an afternoon reminder is set for 1:00 p.m., an evening reminder is set for 6:00 p.m. and a night reminder is set to 9:00 p.m. Of course, you can set a more specific time whenever needed, and you can always go back and edit a reminder using Google Assistant on your phone or request a change using voice commands.
Once you've assigned your reminders, you can simply ask Google Assistant on any of your devices to read back your reminders, and you'll be given a rundown of anything scheduled for that day.
Upgrade your smart home set up
Once you've got Voice Match setup on your existing Google smart home products, it's time to start thinking about adding other Google Home products.

Google Home reminders: How to set and manage them through the Assistant

Turn your Google device into a digital to-do manager
Setting reminders on your Google device is both useful and quick, as it gives you an easy-to-access backup of your to-do list.
The Google Assistant on your compatible speaker or display can set reminders based on time and location, and even assign different members of your family specific nudges.
However, because the voice assistant can also live on your phone, things can get a little tricky.
- Best things to ask Google Assistant
Want to know exactly how to set reminders on your Google Home smart speaker ?
Below we’ve detailed everything there is to know about receiving and managing prompts from the Assistant.
Set reminders on Google Home
While setting reminders through Google Home is, in itself, an easy process, there are actually a few hoops you’ll have to jump through in order to get to that point.
The first thing you need to do is turn on ‘Personal Results’ on your Google account.
If you’re sharing your Google device with other people in the house, you’ll also want to set up Voice Match .
This ensures your reminders aren’t clogged up with other users’ to-do lists, and that your reminders can’t be accessed by other users.
![google assignable reminders Google Home reminders: How to set and manage them through the Assistant](https://www.the-ambient.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/01/google-home-reminders-assistant-1665421717-qpj4-full-width-inline.jpg)
Step 1: Turn on Personal Results
1. In the Google Home app on your iOS or Android device, go to the Home dashboard and select the device you want to set reminders on.
2. Tap the settings icon in the top right corner.
3. Tap ‘Recognition and sharing’ .
4. Scroll down to ‘Personal results’ and make sure it is turned on.
Step 2: Set up Voice Match
3. Tap ‘Recognition and sharing’.
4. Scroll down to ‘Voice Match’ and make sure it’s switched on.
If different Google users are associated with your Google device, they will have to set up Voice Match on their individual accounts, in order to access their own personal reminders.
Step 3: Setting a reminder
Once those two steps are complete, you’re ready to set a reminder on your Google Home device.
You can do this from either your device or the Google Home app, with Assistant allowing you to set reminders that include time, dates, people and locations.
![google assignable reminders google hub reminder](https://www.the-ambient.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/01/reminder-1602857021-TvxA-column-width-inline.jpg)
Time-based reminders
- “Hey Google, remind me to [insert your reminder] at [time] / [day]”
Be aware that if you set a reminder for tomorrow before 5am, it will send that day. However, if you set a reminder for tomorrow after 5am, it will send the next day.
You can also set a recurring time-based reminder with something like:
- “Ok Google, remind me to take my medicine at 8am every day” .
You can also set time-based reminders from your phone using Google Assistant.
![google assignable reminders Google Home reminders with location](https://www.the-ambient.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/01/location-1602857101-wPMg-column-width-inline.jpg)
Location-based reminders
- “Hey Google, remind me to [insert your reminder] at [location]”.
This will apply to specific places and business addresses, as well as your home and work addresses (if you have saved them in Google Maps).
![google assignable reminders Google Home reminders](https://www.the-ambient.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/01/time-and-person-1602857134-pClC-column-width-inline.jpg)
![](http://paperhelp.pw/777/templates/cheerup2/res/banner1.gif)
User-specific reminders
- “Hey Google, remind [person] to [reminder] at [time/day]”.
Assignable Reminders allow people to send user-to-user prompts through Google Home and the Assistant.
You can’t send these reminders to just anyone, however – they’ll only work with people in your Google family group, or anyone whose account is linked to the same smart display or smart speaker as you, and who has matched their voice to said device.
Step 4: Getting a reminder
Once it’s time for a reminder to sound, your Google device will light up and the Assistant will say, “I have a reminder for [name]” .
If you have a speaker, a white light will remain on the device for 10 minutes, though a card will stay on smart displays until it’s been acknowledged.
The same process will take place if you made the reminder from a phone – unless it’s a location-based reminder.
![google assignable reminders google home what are my reminders](https://www.the-ambient.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/01/ghremind-1565975486-h5mp-column-width-inline.jpg)
Step 5: Managing your reminders
Obviously, it’s not just as straightforward as just setting and getting reminders.
You’ll want to check in on reminders you’ve set, delete some that don’t apply or perhaps even turn notifications off/on for reminders altogether.
- To check in on reminders: “Hey Google, show me my reminders” .
- To cancel a reminder: “Ok Google, delete my reminder to [action]” .
- To turn off/on notifications, go to Account > Settings > More Settings > Assistant > Assistant devices > the device you want to change > turn off/on Home Screen And Notifications .
How to set Birthday Reminders on Google Home
Your Google Home smart speaker is linked to your Google account and it will, if you want it to, remind you when a contact’s birthday is coming up.
As part of Google Assistant’s ‘Your People’ feature, you can add birthdates on your Android phone or browser.
If you then add people to your ‘Household Contacts’ on your Google Home smart device you will see a card for that person’s birthday on your smart display’s Snapshot (and also on your Android smartphone).
Alternatively, you can add your Google Calendar to your Nest Hub or Home smart speaker and get birthday reminders that way.

Assignable reminders are arriving for Google Assistant , allowing you to send friendly little reminders to those in your family or anyone you may live with.
For example, ask your Assistant, “Hey Google, remind Tim to take out the trash at 8pm.” Tim will then get a notification on their Assistant-enabled devices when the reminder is created so that it’s on the radar. Tim will get notified again at the exact time you asked your Assistant to remind him. You can also see which reminders you’ve assigned to Tim by saying, “Hey Google, what are my reminders for Tim?”
In to addition to time-based reminders, location-based reminders will work, too. As Google explains, “if you want to remind Claire to pick up flowers—and you don’t know the exact time she’ll be going shopping—just say, “Hey Google, remind Claire to pick up flowers when she gets to the San Francisco Ferry Building.” The Assistant will then create a reminder that will pop-up for Claire when the Assistant recognizes that she has arrived at the Ferry Building.”
You can send and receive reminders only from people who are in your Google family group or those who have their accounts linked to the same Smart Display or speaker as you and are Voice Matched . The recipient must also be in the sender’s Google Contacts . Lastly, you can block people from sending you reminders, just in case this sounds super annoying.
Assignable reminders will be available over the next few weeks in English on phones, speakers and Smart Displays in the US, UK and Australia, and Google says it will work with the Google Nest Hub Max when it’s available later this fall.

Reminder: google one’s vpn is going extinct in one week.
The final date of VPN service is June 20
- Google One VPN service is ending on June 20, but Google Fi wireless plan holders and Pixel 7 owners will still have access.
- Pixel 7 devices will still be able to access the VPN service after a software update, while Pixel 8 devices already have a built-in VPN feature.
- Changes to the remaining VPN service's branding are underway, with a new icon design and connectivity indicator on Pixel devices.
If you are a Google One subscriber, there's no doubt you’re in it for the benefits, including ample cloud storage, call recording, and Gemini AI features. The company has notably offered a VPN service to its subscribers as well, but big changes are coming to it — and its very existence is also set to become a thing of the past.
![google assignable reminders The Google Pixel 7, the Fairphone 5, and the Apple iPhone 13 next to each other on a green background with random items sprinkled around them](https://static1.anpoimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/wm/2023/09/google-pixel-7-fairphone-5-apple-iphone-13-1.jpg)
Google One is killing its VPN service on this date
As previously confirmed by Google on its Google One site, the VPN service available to subscribers will be officially ending on June 20. With the deadline now one week away, it’s worth going over what this means for Google One members. Firstly, the company is stressing that those who already have a Google Fi wireless plan can make use of its existing VPN. Second, it’s possible to try out Google Fi for free to see if it’s a fit — and a potential alternative to going without a VPN.
A Google VPN service will live on via Pixel
Finally, there is another exception being made for Pixel device owners. As the company explains on its Google One site, Pixel 7 devices will be able to access the VPN service following a software update. The VPN by Google built-in service will be supported on the Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a, and Fold devices. If you have a Pixel 8 device, system settings already include a built-in VPN service. In the event that none of these instances are applicable to you, you may have to find a new VPN provider.
![google assignable reminders Google apps displayed on a homescreen with a plant beside the phone on a table](https://static1.anpoimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/wm/2024/05/google-apps-on-homescreen.jpg)
As the company prepares to end the service, it’s also making changes to the remaining VPN feature to reflect its new branding. For instance, some Pixel 7 owners have noticed that the key icon in the status bar signifying connectivity has changed into a “1” notification (This was already the case on Pixel 8 devices). The Google One icon has also been altered to appear as a simple blue shield with the letter, “G.” Whether you’re dreading the end of the Google One VPN service or it isn’t going to impact you, it’s worth considering the changes being made. In the future, they can help you determine if you can trust a provider to continuously deliver a service.

Reminders in iOS 18 can now live inside the Calendar app, bringing two key productivity tools together
Apple’s Calendar and Reminders apps have long been core pillars of the company’s productivity offerings on the iPhone, Mac, and more. In iOS 18 , Apple is supercharging these tools by integrating them—optionally—into one interface.
Now, you can view and manage all your reminders right alongside your calendar events inside the iOS 18 Calendar app.
Reminders in Calendar provide a fuller picture of your day
![google assignable reminders iOS 18 Calendar events](https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2024/06/ios18-calendar-app.jpg?quality=82&strip=all)
Have you ever looked at your Calendar app and realized that, since it didn’t contain your todos, it wasn’t providing the best overview of your day? I’ve felt that way on many occasions, so I’ve always appreciated apps like Fantastical that enabled integrating these two productivity tools.
Now in iOS 18, Apple’s Calendar app can provide that same comprehensive integration of todos and events.
Viewing your reminders inside Calendar
![google assignable reminders iOS 18 Calendar list](https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2024/06/ios18-calendar-reminders-view.jpg?quality=82&strip=all)
The Reminders app still exists as a separate iOS 18 app, so viewing reminders inside of Calendar is entirely optional, but if you’re interested in bringing these two tools together, here’s how it works.
Reminders that have an assigned due date will show up on that date inside of Calendar. This is true for all-day events, as well as those with a specific time assigned.
As you would expect, reminders with specific due times will display those times in Calendar and be sorted appropriately alongside your events. So if you have a reminder due for 6pm, it will be displayed just underneath an event scheduled for 7pm.
You can check and uncheck reminders directly from the Calendar interface, and the little circles also serve as a helpful way to distinguish between reminders and events.
Apple excels at integrating its various products via hardware, software, and services to provide a better ecosystem experience. It has started to dabble with integrating app features into each other, such as Apple News stories populating the Weather app .
Reminders and Calendar seem like a natural fit for the next phase of app integrations, and I look forward to see what other types of moves may come in the future.

Apple's core Calendar and Reminders apps can finally talk to each other with iOS 18

Calendar and Reminders will be able to share information in IOS 18
![google assignable reminders google assignable reminders](https://photos5.appleinsider.com/gallery/60037-123176-IMG_0194-xl.jpg)
At the company's annual WWDC on Monday, it was revealed that the Calendar and Reminders applications would become integrated, meaning that Reminders will now be visible from within Calendar.
AppleInsider first revealed this change in our exclusive report from early May, well over a month before Apple officially announced the two apps would be able to share information. In our initial report, we explained the overall significance and potential implications of the change.
Better integration between Calendar and Reminders would solve the years-old struggle of moving between the two apps only to manage related tasks. The upgrade will undoubtedly save users a large amount of time, and is likely to increase productivity as a result.
Although users can manage both events and reminders from Apple's core Calendar application, the stand-alone Reminders app is still present. This gives users multiple ways of viewing, managing, and creating new reminders on allowing for added convenience.
![google assignable reminders Two smartphones showing event creation screens with date, time, location, and reminder options against a blue gradient background.](https://photos5.appleinsider.com/gallery/60037-123177-CalRem-xl.jpg)
Tapping and holding on a specific time in the Calendar app on iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 will give users the option to create either a Calendar event or a reminder. When creating a reminder, users will be able to select different options for it.
Users can set the priority level, add notes, and select the lists in which their reminders will appear. The option to mark reminders as completed is also present within Calendar, as a result of the integration.
If a reminder with a date and time is created within Reminders, it also appears in the built-in Calendar application. Calendar will display it alongside events, and will arrange them based on the time and date contained within each.
For instance, if a reminder is set for 2 PM, and a Calendar event for 3 PM on the same day - the reminder will appear above the Calendar event. This will ultimately give users a more streamlined experience by providing an all-encompassing overview of their day.
Flexibits' Fantastical , a third-party application, has had similar features for a number of years, with even more options. Apple's decision to integrate its default Calendar and Reminders application is an obvious choice and a welcome change, but it is unlikely to have any significant impact on the prevalence of third-party apps.
The integration between Calendar and Reminders was officially announced alongside a wide variety of other OS features and improvements. At WWDC, Apple introduced a new universal Calculator application with Math Notes, along with improvements to Siri and on-device image generation - thanks to Apple Intelligence .
Wonderful! I look forwarding to giving this a try.
I wonder what will happen to Reminders set for a day but not a time. Setting them as All-Day events does not seem, to me, to be the best solution. We will see.

Impact of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge 127 updates on ArcGIS Enterprise

Description
An update is coming to Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge in July 2024 that will negatively impact and break key parts of the ArcGIS Enterprise portal experience for versions prior to ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3. Esri will be releasing a series of patches, beginning in June 2024, to resolve this issue. All ArcGIS Enterprise deployments whose users interact with the ArcGIS Enterprise portal and ArcGIS Enterprise-based web applications in ArcGIS Enterprise 11.2 or earlier, using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, must install these patches to avoid service interruptions. This article will be updated as patches become available.
The Chromium open-source project that powers Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge is removing an old, obsolete piece of web technology called mutation events . In this Chromium 127 update, support for these events will be removed, causing global navigation bars on web pages dependent on this technology to appear blank (see Figure 1 below).
![google assignable reminders Figure 1 - ArcGIS Enterprise global navigation bar as it should appear in Chrome and Edge browsers. If the patch is not installed, this will appear blank.](https://webapps-cdn.esri.com/CDN/support-site/technical-articles-images/000032813/00N39000003LL23-0EM5x000004qeM9.png)
All versions of ArcGIS Enterprise 11.2 and earlier are affected. ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3 is unaffected. This change is slated to go into effect with the release of Google Chrome 127 and Microsoft Edge 127. The impact of this will be seen this as soon as web browsers are updated. Google Chrome will start being updated to Chrome 127 beginning July 23, 2024 . Users of Microsoft Edge will start being updated beginning July 25, 2024 . Rollout of new browser versions is often uneven and individual end users may be affected at different times, depending on when their browser version is updated. End users will need to refer to their individual web browser to see what Google Chrome version or Microsoft Edge version they are using. Anyone accessing ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Enterprise-based web apps through Google Chrome 127 or Microsoft Edge 127 will see different parts of the ArcGIS Enterprise portal and web apps work or draw incorrectly. Most notably, the top navigation bar will fail to draw entirely and show a blank space instead (see Figure 2 below).
![google assignable reminders Figure 2- ArcGIS Enterprise global navigation bar, which will be missing in impacted versions with the Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge 127 updates.](https://webapps-cdn.esri.com/CDN/support-site/technical-articles-images/000032813/00N39000003LL23-0EM5x000004qeMN.png)
Solution or Workaround
To address changes in the Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge 127 updates, Esri will be releasing patches for all affected versions of ArcGIS Enterprise that are within General Availability or Extended Support according to the ArcGIS Enterprise product lifecycle .
ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3 | Unaffected | No patch. |
ArcGIS Enterprise 11.2 | Affected | Patch will be released. |
ArcGIS Enterprise 11.1 | Affected | Patch will be released. |
ArcGIS Enterprise 11.0 | Affected | No patch. |
ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1 | Affected | Patch will be released. |
ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9 | Affected | No patch. |
ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1 | Affected | Patch will be released. |
ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8 and prior | May be affected | No patches. |
This article will be updated as patches become available. If ArcGIS Enterprise 11.2, 11.1, 10.9.1, or 10.8.1 is deployed, apply the relevant patch as soon as possible after it is released for their version of ArcGIS Enterprise. If unable to upgrade to a patchable version of ArcGIS Enterprise or unable to apply the patch prior to the release of Google Chrome 127 and Microsoft Edge 127, an enterprise policy setting is available in Chrome and Edge to delay the implementation of this breaking change to a later version of Chrome and Edge. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge both support the concept of enterprise policy settings that affect the behavior of those browsers. Both browsers are introducing a new policy setting called MutationEventsEnabled that can be used to delay the effective date of this change. When enabling this setting, the change will not go into effect until Google Chrome 135 and Microsoft Edge 135. This will provide about nine additional months to either install the necessary patch or upgrade to a new version of ArcGIS Enterprise.

Google Sheets' new tool lets you set specific rules for notifications.
Conditional notifications can apply to changes like a cell's value or task status..
I'm the first to admit that the amount of joy Google Sheets brings me is a bit odd, but I use it for everything from tracking my earnings to planning trip budgets with friends. So, I'm excited to see that Google is making it easier to get notified about specific changes to my spreadsheet without me learning to code (something I've just never gotten into). The company has announced that Google Sheets is getting conditional notifications , meaning you can set rules in spreadsheets that send emails when certain things happen.
For example, you could set it to send you an email notification when a number drops below or above a certain amount or when a column's value changes at all. You can also set rules that align more with a project manager tool, like getting a notification when a task's status or owner changes. This tool only requires edit access, with anyone able to set notifications for themselves or others by entering their email addresses. Don't worry, you can unsubscribe if someone starts sending you unwanted notifications.
To use conditional notifications, go to tools and then conditional notifications or just right-click in a cell. From there, click add rule (you can name the rule or let Google auto-label it) and then select a custom range or column. You can add additional criteria for the rule, such as exactly what a box should say for you to receive a notification. Then, you can manually input email addresses or select a column containing them. However, Google warns that if you do the latter, the number of cells must match the number included in the rule. So, if you have three cells in the rule, you can only highlight three cells with email addresses. If you get confused, Google gets into all the nitty-gritty of it here .
Google Sheet's conditional formatting is available to anyone with the following workplaces: Businesses Standard and Plus, Education Plus and Enterprise Starter, Standard, Plus or Essential. It started rolling out for Rapid Release domains on June 4 and will begin showing up for Standard Release domains on June 18. In both cases, conditional formatting might take up to 15 days to appear.
