Jahangirnagar University accustomed as a fully residential public university established in 1970 has now 36 departments and Six Faculties along with Four institutes, with added than fifteen thousand students, and about Five hundred academics adherent to teaching and research. The sprawling arresting campus is anchored 30 kilometres from the basic Dhaka, able-bodied affiliated with a civic highway. The aboriginal assembly of Independent Bangladesh accepted the university its Charter in 1973 beneath which the university is getting operated.

The badge of the university bears the civic annual ‘white lily’ (Lilium condidu) with three petals belted by strips of a acceptable floral architecture with the name of the university in Bangla ensconcing in a semi-circle like a band of flowers.

Located at Savar abreast Dhaka, Jahangirnagar University is one of the arch Universities in Bangladesh. The University is a residential one. It was formally launched on 12 January 1971 by its aboriginal adjudicator Rear Admiral S.M. Ahsan, Governor of above East Pakistan. After Emergence of Bangladesh the Government allowable the Jahangirnagar University Act. 1973, which repealed the antecedent authorization and renamed the University as Jahangirnagar University.The University owes its present appearance to this act beneath which it is now functioning.

Our History

The Library started in *** with a collection of — books. Now the elibrary has — books. This is the first digital library in Jahangirnagar University. The present total measurement of the library is — square feet.

 since its inception, has been providing library support to students, teachers, researchers and general readers . This library has a collection of  books, journal volumes and periodicals. These books and journals cover all areas of knowledge and information and reflect the nature of a general university with equal emphasis on humanities, social sciences, business administration, sciences and applied sciences. The library has also a huge archive of newspapers and other  publications.

OUR Vision & Mission

The mission of the library is to provide comprehensive resource and service to support research, teaching and learning needs of the university community using modern techniques and technologies.

Objectives:

• To support the mission of the university as a premier academic and research institution embracing traditional values of higher education as well as the knowledge required for the global community.
• To select, organize and supply research, teaching and learning resources for all users.
• To provide an environment that stimulates the use of library materials and services and supports a variety of learning modes.
• To understand the needs of users and provide user-centered services to meet their needs.
• To achieve quality and good professional practice in all activities.

Library Membership

All students, Department members, institute members, part-time institute members, officers,  teaching assistants and research assistants are entitled to become the library member. Pay slip of admission fees, personal e-mail and one copy passport size photograph are required for membership. 

Library Hours

The library remains open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday through Thursday. On Saturday it remains open from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and maintains single shift from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm during the semester break. It remains closed on public holidays and other dates announced by the university authorities.

Morphological and molecular based experiments were conducted to identify the presence of Rhizoctonia solani, R. oryzae and R. oryzae-sativae which were the causal agents of sheath blight and sheath blight-like symptoms associated with sheath disease complex of rice. Disease survey was conducted at Bogra, Comilla, Gazipur and Rajshahi Districts in Bangladesh. The data collected revealed that sheath blight was the most important disease (19.8%) followed by aggregated sheath spot (2.4%), and sheath spot (2.3%). Three pathogens of the disease complex were identified morphologically by their spot size, general appearance of spot, number of spot, position in plant, sclerotium visibility and sclerotial size on infected plant. Those three species of Rhizoctonia of rice sheath disease complex were confirmed by diagnostic-PCR with their corresponding reference isolates by using specific primers GMRS-3, GMRO-3, GMROS-2 to Rhizoctonia solani, R. oryzae and R. oryzae-sativae, respectively. Molecular approaches might overcome the limitations of morphological characterization particularly when huge samples were needed to distinguish.

Agriculture of Bangladesh is characterized by overwhelmingly small holdings due to higher population density and nearly 80 per cent of its population residing in the rural areas coupled with unabated land fragmentation due to the inheritance laws of the country (Rahman et. al.,2011).According to preliminary estimate of BBS, in FY2017-18, food grains production stood at around 413.25 lakh metric tons (MT). In the same fiscal year, the total internal procurement of food grains was 16.7 lakh MT against the target of 17.3 lakh MT.

This study was conducted to evaluate the zoonotic gastrointestinal parasitic infections in cattle at Sirajganj district of Bangladesh during the period from February, 2016 to November, 2016 by coproscopy examination. A total of 150 fecal samples of cattle were collected from the study areas, which examined and found 41 (27.33%) were positive for gastrointestinal parasitic infections that has zoonotic importance. The prevalence of parasitic infection was significantly higher in female (33.7%) than in males (19. 4%). The prevalence of parasite was recorded higher in cross breed than in indigenous cattle which are statistically significant (p≤0.05). In case of age groups, the highest rate of infection was observed in adult of >1 years (28.5%) and the lowest in calves aged ≤1 year (25.4%). Moreover, the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites were higher in poor body conditioned cattle (36.3%) than that of malnourished (34%) and healthy cattle (22.4%).
