T-Mobile is pretty much the best cellular carrier to go to if you’re in the market for a mobile hotspot. T-Mobile has the best 5G hotspot on the market—and some solid 4G LTE hotspots too. Its hotspot data plans come cheap and give you a lot of flexibility. And if you just need data for your phone’s mobile hotspot, well, T-Mobile has a great phone plan for that too.

The starter pack—Here’s the best T-Mobile hotspot, hotspot plan, and hotspot-friendly cellular plan

Most mobile hotspots are locked for use with specific cellular carriers, a reality we’re not thrilled about because it means you have limited choices and less flexibility no matter which hotspot you choose. But T-Mobile is a smart cell carrier to go with since it has the best 5G hotspot around, great prices on all of its mobile Wi-Fi hotspots, and a dirt-cheap hotspot data plan that lets you get more data whenever you run out.

Here’s a quick rundown of your best options if you go with T-Mobile as your one-stop hotspot shop.

The best hotspot: Get Inseego’s 5G MiFi M2000 for $336. Sure, it’s a pretty high price for a hotspot, but it gives you cutting-edge 5G access with 100+ Mbps speeds in some areas. It’s also fully loaded with security features and Wi-Fi 6 efficiency, able to connect up to 30 devices at a time. Stick to a cheaper device if you’re only hotspotting once in a while, but spring for the M2000 if you go on lots of work-related trips and share your hotspot data with groups of coworkers or students.

The best hotspot data plan: T-Mobile’s 2 GB data plan is the best hotspot plan in our opinion. This plan costs only $10 a month, which is a steal compared to the inflated prices you usually see for hotspot plans. It doesn’t come with a whole lot of data, but that isn’t a problem if you use a mobile hotspot occasionally. And if you run out, you can buy more data for a reasonable price any time.

Download our speed test app to see what kind of performance you’re getting.

Take our speed test to see what kind of performance you’re getting with your hotspot. If you’re on a phone hotspot, a mobile hotspot device could give you a major boost.

t mobile business hotspot plan

The best cellular plan for your phone’s hotspot: Not everyone needs a standalone hotspot—a cell phone’s hotspot works just as well in a pinch. A lot of phone plans come with a little data you can use for hotspot tethering. T-Mobile’s Magenta Max plan comes with 40 GB of high-speed hotspot data and costs $85 for one line. That 40 GB should give you plenty to cover your needs at a work conference or holiday weekend Netflix binge.

What should you look for in a T-Mobile hotspot?

You should get a T-Mobile hotspot that follows recent Wi-Fi standards, supports enough devices for your needs, and comes at an affordable price.

T-Mobile has a handful of mobile Wi-Fi hotspots for sale on its website, but you can also find mobile hotspots on Amazon that work with T-Mobile’s network. Bear in mind, not all of these handheld devices are built the same. The most expensive ones are like pocket-sized sports cars, festooned with features and capabilities. The cheaper ones give you a 4G LTE connection that ranges from fast and reliable to somewhat shaky.

What you get from a great hotspot:

  • 4G LTE or 5G connectivity
  • Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac)
  • Long-lasting battery (10 hours or more when in use)
  • Strong network coverage over a major cellular carrier
  • Affordable data plan options
  • A steady, continuous connection for multiple devices
  • A USB port for charging phones and tablets

Take a look at the best hotspots you can buy for more details on what to look for—even if you don’t have T-Mobile, you can still find a great deal.

*Amazon.com prices (as of 6/21/2022 17:35 MST). Read full disclaimer .

Outside of the MiFi M2000, most of T-Mobile’s hotspots are fairly standard. The Franklin T10 Mobile Hotspot and the Alcatel LINKZONE don’t come with the digital touchscreens or security features of higher-priced hotspots. But they’re cheap, and they get the job done, giving you decent speeds over 4G LTE networks. Get one of those if you only occasionally use a hotspot or use it for just a handful of Wi-Fi devices at a time.

Want the fastest and most secure hotspot around? Take a look at the best 5G hotspots for the most innovative designs and greatest Wi-Fi firepower.

*Per connected device with AutoPay. Plus Taxes & fees.

While it’s tempting to be drawn in by lots of gigabytes upfront, for many people it’s actually smarter to start small, especially if you use hotspots only occasionally. That’s why we recommend T-Mobile’s 2 GB plan as the best option: you get a little bit of hotspot data for a super cheap price. You can just buy more when you run out, in quantities ranging from 5 GB to 50 GB.

If you’re in need of a big bunch of data right off the bat, consider T-Mobile’s prepaid Unlimited Mobile Internet plan. It’s a pretty good option if you live in a rural area and want to use a hotspot in place of a pricey and cumbersome satellite internet plan. Keep in mind that your speeds will be throttled considerably once you use 50 GB of data.

The easy alternative: Best T-Mobile cellular plans for hotspotting

A standalone mobile hotspot gives you faster speeds than a smartphone hotspot. Plus, a dedicated device lets you connect more users and doesn’t drain your phone’s battery. Still, for many users a phone hotspot is enough, and T-Mobile’s Magenta Max plan gives you a ton of data to tether your phone to Wi-Fi devices all day long.

T-Mobile has a good prepaid option if you want something cheaper. Or if you’re really going for a budget option, Mint Mobile uses T-Mobile’s network and offers a ridiculously cheap plan. Just be mindful of your hotspot data use because it counts towards your cell phone data. (Other MVNO providers like Boost Mobile also offer cellular and hotspot plans that give you data to work with. The connection isn’t quite as reliable, but the plans are usually great budget options.)

Like a hotspot, T-Mobile Home Internet uses wireless signals from T-Mobile’s network to get you an internet connection. Unlike a hotspot, it’s meant to be used at a fixed location inside your home, using a cellular router that connects to the network over transmitters on the street.

If you’re looking to use a hotspot as a permanent internet setup, T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is a much better option because it’s cheaper, doesn’t have data limits, and comes with a lot of extra perks.

But if you seek portable internet—with lots of mobility for when you travel or work away from the office—then stick with a hotspot.

FAQ about T-Mobile hotspots

Can you get unlimited data from a t-mobile hotspot.

The short answer is, no. You can’t get truly unlimited data from a T-Mobile hotspot.

Hotspots and hotspot plans rarely come with unlimited data. T-Mobile technically offers unlimited data on its hotspot plans, but the reality is that all your high speed 5G and 4G LTE data is capped at a certain amount. After you use it, your speeds get throttled to a snail’s crawl, making your hotspot connection basically useless.

You can get unlimited data from T-Mobile’s 5G Home Internet plan, which (like a hotspot) uses a cellular network to get you an internet connection. That’s actually a great plan, but it’s meant for a fixed location, so you don’t get the mobility of an actual hotspot.

Data is still something of a hot commodity on cellular networks these days, so unlimited hotspot data is still something of a distant dream ( sigh ).

Can you use the Moto G hotspot with T-Mobile?

Yes, the hotspots on Motorola’s Moto G phones work on T-Mobile networks. Here’s how you turn on the hotspot:

Step one: Go to Settings > Network & internet > Advanced.

Step two: Tap Mobile Hotspot & Tethering.

Step three: Tap Mobile Hotspot.

Step four: Tap the Mobile Hotspot switch to turn the Wi-Fi hotspot on or off.

Can you use a NETGEAR Nighthawk hotspot with T-Mobile?

NETGEAR Nighthawk hotspots are not compatible with T-Mobile networks. However, they do work on AT&T networks. We recommend the Nighthawk LTE Mobile Hotspot Router for a 4G LTE connection or the NETGEAR Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot Pro for advanced features, Wi-Fi 6 capability, and the fastest possible speeds.

T-Mobile for Business puts the spotlight on small businesses across the country

t-mobile-for-small-business-plans

Earlier today, T-Mobile for Business revealed three new small business plans under the name Business Unlimited. In addition to these new plans, T-Mobile for Business has announced its new fixed wireless internet, Facebook Advertising on Us with digital advertising, and digital marketing resources exclusively for small businesses. This is T-Mobile’s way of helping the small business owners cope as they go through the economical effects of the pandemic.

Here is more information on these new developments:

T-Mobile Business Unlimited Plans

These are the three small business plans that T-Mobile for Business has unveiled today. As of this writing, these are the only small business plans available in the country.

  • Business Unlimited Select $25/line/month – This plan comes with unlimited talk, text, and 50GB of “Premium Data”, 5GB high-speed mobile hotspot; unlimited texting and 2G data overseas; and unlimited talk, text and 2G data in Canada and Mexico. The plan, however, reduces the speed during times of network congestion.
  • Business Unlimited Advanced $30/line/month – This plan comes with unlimited talk, text, and 100GB of “Premium Data”, 40GB high-speed mobile hotspot, 1 hour of Gogo In-Flight Wi-Fi; unlimited texting and 2G data overseas; unlimited talk, text and 5G high-speed data in Canada and Mexico; HD video streaming; and Microsoft 365 on Us.
  • Business Unlimited Ultimate $40/line/month – This plan comes with unlimited talk, text, and “Premium Data”, 100GB high-speed mobile hotspot, 1 hour of Gogo In-Flight Wi-Fi; 4K video streaming; Microsoft 365 on Us; and 2x faster data internationally (256Kbps).

T-Mobile Small Business Internet

The need to stay online is greatly experienced by small businesses. Thankfully, T-Mobile for Business has introduced a way to address this need with its new fixed wireless internet service that costs $60/month with AutoPay and no annual contracts. It also doesn’t include any caps or overage penalties.

Once you sign up for this service, T-Mobile will ship a state-of-the-art Nokia 5G router to your business location, included in your monthly price with no added equipment fees. You can then perform the installation in minutes, without the need to pay for hookup fees. The service also comes with access to a team of dedicated experts who you can call whenever you need them.

For a limited time period, T-Mobile for Business is running a promotion on this service. When you sign up for the service between June 1st and June 30th, you can enjoy $10 off on the monthly rate. This means that you will only have to pay $50/month (with AutoPay) throughout the duration of the qualifying line. You can learn more about this offer here .

Facebook Advertising on Us

T-Mobile knows that in order to help your business succeed, you need to take things to social media. And one way you can do that is by doing ads the right way. This is why T-Mobile for Business has teamed up with Facebook experts to help improve your business’ digital marketing strategy.

The partnership gives small businesses three one-on-one consultations with a Facebook marketing expert. It also gives access to educational resources and thought leadership content to help you make the most out of your Facebook advertising strategies.

Not only that, every small business on T-Mobile with three or more lines will get $200 in digital advertising to use to market their business on Facebook and Instagram’s platform.

T-Mobile for Business’ Opportunity Sweepstakes

Lastly, T-Mobile for Business is running an Opportunity Sweepstakes for small businesses throughout the country.

When you join, you have a chance to win a 5G makeover for your business. You can be among the winners of the following:

  • Six small businesses will win a 5G smartphone or tablet
  • Five small businesses will win a package of five 5G devices
  • Two small businesses will win a full 5G makeover with five 5G smartphones, a 5G tablet, and $5000 to spend on anything

You can join this sweepstakes between June 1st and July 16th. For more information, visit this page .

These new developments will be available starting June 1st. To kick off its launch, T-Mo will be hosting a Facebook Live conversation with FUBU founder & CEO/ABC’s Shark Tank, Daymond John and T-Mobile for Business’ EVP, Mike Katz. The talk will take place virtually on June 1st at 11:00am PT. You can learn more about this here .

New Small Business Plan Line Up

tmobile logo

Previously, T-Mobile's business-based plan lineup included two plans - Magenta for Business and Magenta MAX for Business. Their lineup now includes three plans: Business Unlimited Select, Business Unlimited Advanced, and Business Unlimited Ultimate.

These plans are designated for use in smartphones only, and they all come with unlimited talk and text.

Business Unlimited Ultimate

This plan includes unlimited 4G/LTE and 5G data on device, with no network management. It also includes 100GB of high speed mobile hotspot data per line.

The price for a single line is $85, with discounts for each additional line added - bringing the average price to as low as $40/line.

Streaming is set at 480p, but is available in 4K ultra-high definition.

5GB of high-speed data is available for each line for use in Canada and Mexico, followed by unlimited data usage at 256kbps. As with all T-Mobile plans, majority and activation of data usage needs to be in the U.S.

Microsoft 365 productivity tools are offered as a perk for each line.

tmobile small business plans table

Business Unlimited Advanced

This plan includes unlimited 4G/LTE and 5G data on device, and is subject to network management at 100GB of use. It also includes 40GB of high speed mobile hotspot data per line.

The price for a single line is $70, with discounts available for additional lines.

Streaming is set at 480p, but is available in high definition (HD).

5GB of high-speed data is available for use in Canada and Mexico, followed by unlimited data usage at 128kbps. As with all T-Mobile plans, majority and activation of data usage needs to be in the U.S.

Business Unlimited Select

This plan includes unlimited 4G/LTE and 5G data on device, and is subject to network management at 50GB of use. It also includes 5GB of high speed mobile hotspot data per line.

The price for a single line is $60, with discounts available for additional lines.

Streaming is set at 480p (SD).

No high-speed data is available for use in Canada and Mexico, but it does include unlimited data at 128Kbps.

Microsoft 365 is not included on this tier of the plan.

Business Plan Qualifications

A business plan with T-Mobile requires a U.S. Tax ID number or EIN. Plans are also available to sole proprietors with only a U.S. social security number (SSN). Frustratingly, but much like AT&T and Verizon, T-Mobile pretty much forces you to talk with a 'local business sales representative' to get more information or establish an account.

Business Account Perks

Along with pricing discounts, business accounts with T-Mobile offer some different perks than consumer accounts.

t mobile business facebook

Microsoft 365  and Gogo In-Flight WiFi will be included with Ultimate and Advanced tiers of Unlimited Business plans.

Other T-Mobile Business Plans

The 'Unlimited Business' line-up detailed above is not T-Mobile's only business offering. The company also offers tiered-data  Simple Choice plans, as well as T-Mobile WFX Plans .

The new Business Ultimate Unlimited plan is priced identically to the consumer-based Magenta MAX plan at $85 for a single line. However, Magenta MAX only includes 40GB of mobile hotspot data, whereas the Business Ultimate Unlimited plan includes 100GB.

In order to have access to 100GB of mobile hotspot data for the consumer-based Magenta MAX plan, you would need to add hotspot data for an additional $35 - bringing the plan total to $120 for a single line - making the Business Ultimate Unlimited plan a great deal in comparison.

Top Pick Star

These plans are designated for use in phones only, they are not compatible with use in a hotspot or other data device. Previously T-Mobile did have the option to add tablets to Business lines, but we do not yet know if that will also be an option with these new plans. Once the plans are officially released we will update this story if that information becomes available.

T-Mobile Quietly Launched a 30 GB Hotspot Plan For Just $10

Kayla Wassell

t mobile business hotspot plan

T-Mobile has a 30 GB hotspot plan for $10 a month, though the company isn’t promoting the package.

T-Mobile on August quietly rolled out a new hotspot plan that gives customers access to high-speed data for only $15 a month, or $10 with the autopay discount. According to internal documents reviewed by The Mobile Report , the plan includes 30 GB of data, which is reduced to 600 Kbps after the limit is reached. Customers can stream videos at up to 4K UHD.

This plan gives consumers who only want to connect one device a budget-friendly option for high-speed internet without signing up for a voice plan or other internet packages.

T-Mobile’s cheapest hotspot plan is less expensive than other carriers. While Verizon also has a plan for $10, it only offers 15 GB of data and also requires customers to have a voice line. Without a voice line, a Verizon hotspot costs $90 for 100 GB. AT&T has a 15 GB plan for $25, or 50 GB for $50 a month, and also requires a voice line.

The plan is available to new and existing U.S. and Puerto Rico customers on the Basic Mobile Internet Plan.

A voice line isn’t required, but customers must supply or buy their own hotspot device . T-Mobile does not include any device discounts for this plan. The 30 GB plan works with connected laptops or Chromebooks with an on-device connection with the option to share data with other devices through a mobile hotspot. For tablets, T-Mobile recommends using the Magenta Business Tablet or Magenta Business Tablet Plus plans with an additional hotspot.

T-Mobile’s 30 GB hotspot plan doesn’t come with a Price Lock Guarantee, so that low rate could go up over time. Customers who want to sign up should verify any active promotional deals they have won’t expire by adding this new data plan.

T-Mobile introduces its first 5G hotspot and a 100GB standalone plan for $50

Inseego 5G MiFi M2000

T-Mobile might look as thought it’s late to the game by unveiling its first 5G hotspot today , along with a variety of 5G standalone hotspot plans. After all, Verizon and AT&T have offered 5G hotspots for a while now (although they began with significantly limited coverage). But T-Mobile’s particular blend of wide 5G coverage and better-than-LTE speeds means the device should be more accessible to more people.

Plus, the carrier’s standalone 5G hotspot plan is priced to compete, starting at $30 for 10GB and $40 for 30GB, and topping out at 100GB for $50. In comparison, AT&T’s standalone hotspot plans start at $60 per month for 15GB; Verizon’s offerings start at $80 for 15GB of 5G.

T-Mobile’s standalone 5G hotspot plan is priced to compete

T-Mobile’s Inseego 5G MiFi M2000 hotspot is available now through T-Mobile and costs $336 to purchase outright. For now, the carrier is offering to knock that down to $168 if you add a new line and spread the payment across 24 months. The M2000 has more than 24 hours of battery life and is capable of connecting up to 30 devices at once, according to the company.

A reminder: 5G comes in several flavors, and not all are created equal . T-Mobile has taken a multi-layered approach with an aggressive expansion schedule , working to grow overall coverage quickly as well as bolstering its midband offerings, thanks to its acquisition of Sprint’s network last spring.
