turnitin submission id lookup

  • Locate the link to the Turnitin Assignment and open it.
  • Selecting your paper title will load it into Feedback studio which shows an online version of your paper that your tutor uses to grade your work. If available it will contain your grade and feedback. Also, if it has been enabled on your assignment, you will be able to view your similarity report .

Example of what Feedback Studio looks like from a student view.

  • If your tutor has used Feedback Studio to add comments, these will appear on screen after you’ve loaded your paper.  Comments will appear as blue speech marks or blue boxes.
  • Clicking on a blue box will expand the comment or QuickMark to see the detailed comment if applicable.

Viewing your provisional score, general comments, rubrics, and listening to voice comments

  • On the right-hand side of the page you should see a series of blue boxes.  These allow you access to the rubric scorecard for your assignment (if one is being used) you may also allow you to listen to any voice comments.  Voice comments are short recordings that your tutor may make to summarise their thoughts.  This will not be available unless your tutor has chosen to use this feature.  At the bottom of this sidebar, you can view general comments which have been left by the marker.
  • The very top of the blue sidebar area shows you any score which has been entered by the marker for your paper.  Note that scores which appear in Turnitin are usually provisional, and should not be considered your ‘final’ mark.

Downloading a PDF of your submission with feedback to view offline (or print)

  • If you wish to download a copy of your submission including any feedback, you can download a PDF to be viewed offline or to be printed.
  • First look for the download icon in the right-hand side panel.  This is highlighted in the screenshot above.  Click on the icon.
  • Having clicked on the button, you should see a popup message asking what you wish to download.  Click on ‘Current View’.  The popup will disappear, and a message saying ‘Preparing Download’ should appear.  Shortly after, your PDF should open (or you may be asked to save the PDF depending on your local browser settings.

Checking your Turnitin submission and finding your submission ID

Click ‘View / Complete’

2. Locate the Turnitin Assignment link, which will look similar to the screenshot above, but will have a different name. Click on the link which says View / Complete.   This will take you into your assignment homepage for this specific assignment.  This is the same link you clicked on when you first submitted your assignment.  Clicking this link after you have submitted will allow you to check the submission you have made, and access related materials, including information about your assignment, and similarity reports / feedback / grades.  The availability of similarity reports and feedback / grades depends on whether your tutor is using these features.

Resubmitting, viewing, downloading, and accessing feedback

3.  As you have already submitted to the assignment in question, you will see a range of different buttons depending on the whether the assignment due date has passed or not, and depending on how your tutor has setup the assignment.   Generally you will see one of the 3 button layouts shown in the image above:

In order to check the work you have submitted before it has been marked, or in order to find your submission ID, you should click on the ‘View’ button (it doesn’t matter whether it is blue or grey in this instance)

4.  After clicking on the view button, your submission will load up in a new window.

Viewing information about your submission

5.  Using the side panel on the right hand side, look for the ‘i’ button.  Click on this button to view information about your submission.

6.  At the top of the pop up you will see your submission ID .  This is the receipt number for your submission, and is the same one which is shown on screen immediately after you have successfully submitted.  You are usually also sent this by email.

Downloading a copy of your digital receipt

7.  If you wish to download a PDF copy of your receipt, you can do so by clicking on the download button  and then selecting ‘Digital Receipt’

New to Turnitin? We're glad to have you with us!

On this page, you'll find everything you need to get started with Turnitin. We'll start by helping you create your account all the way through to submitting your first file and viewing any feedback your instructor has left you.

There are a couple of ways your instructor can add you to a class. They can either add you to a class directly using your email address or give you a class ID and enrollment key to let you self-join. Both methods will create the exact same type of account.

The student homepage

The student homepage is the first page you see after logging in to Turnitin. You'll see a list of all the classes that you are currently enrolled in. Select the name of your class to open your assignment inbox.

Want to learn more ?

Assignment inbox

The assignment inbox is the home for any assignment you may be working on. You'll find the key dates for the assignment, and most importantly, when it needs to be submitted by. You'll also have access to any rubrics your instructor has attached to the assignment. From the assignment inbox, you'll can access any feedback from your instructor, including your Similarity Report.

Submitting a paper

  • From the assignment inbox, select the blue Submit button relevant to your assignment.
  • The paper submission page will open. Enter a title for your paper.
  • There are multiple ways to upload to Turnitin. Select Choose from this computer to pick a file that you have saved on your computer. If your file exists in Google docs or Dropbox, you can upload directly from there.
  • Turnitin will generate a similarity report for files in the following formats:
  • Microsoft Word
  • WordPerfect
  • OpenOffice (ODT)
  • Hangul (HWP)
  • Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets (submitted via the Google Drive submission option),
  • Plain text files

If the assignment is set to accept any file type, students may upload any file type to the assignment.

  • Once you've selected your file, select the Upload button to upload your paper.

Your submission is not complete until you've confirmed your submission.

  • If your submission is successful, you'll see your digital receipt. You can print this page or view it later from within Turnitin Feedback Studio. We'll also email you a copy to your email address.

Viewing your Similarity Report

From the Assignment Inbox, select the Similarity Report icon to the right of your assignment. Need a little help working out what it all means? Check out our Interpreting the Similarity Report guidance.

If the assignment inbox says that your Similarity Report is not available, your instructor has set up your assignment to not allow students to view it.

Viewing instructor feedback

If your instructor has provided feedback on your paper, you will be able to view it once the post date for the assignment has passed.

How can I access an old submission if I am no longer enrolled in the class?

Nov 24, 2020 • knowledge article, information.

The only way for a student to gain access to a paper submitted to Turnitin is by logging into their account and viewing/downloading the submission directly. If you would like to download a paper previously submitted to Turnitin, please refer to  Downloading submitted papers . If a class is no longer listed on your account, then you will no longer have access to the paper. You will need to speak with the instructor of the class directly and see if they have a copy of the paper on hand or can download it from the system for you. Note:  Turnitin does not distribute papers to anyone for any reason. Please get in touch with your institution for further queries regarding this matter.
