Being able to join your Sim as they go about their workday is the selling point of The Sims 4: Get To Work expansion. Of the three careers added in that pack, the Detective Career might be the most involved and the most enjoyable to play through.

You don't have to join your Sim when they go to work, but you'll need to go a few times if you want them to make any progression in the career. As a detective, your Sim will need to solve cases and bust bad guys and you can't expect a Sim's AI to be able to handle that alone.

Follow Your Sim To Work Or Send Them Alone

One of the interactive careers introduced in Get to Work, the Detective career is The Sims 4's take on a police career, allowing you to watch your Sim work their way up the ranks to reach the top brass.

When you join your Sim and travel along to the police station, you'll realize that the game really streamlines the world of being a detective. You will get a menu in the top-left of your screen with various tasks that you must complete in order to raise your job performance.

These tasks range from simply socializing with your colleagues to undertaking actual detective work. As you get promoted up the ladder, you'll get to do more things such as arresting suspects and solving cases.

Remember that you can hover your mouse over any task to receive hints and tips about how to complete it.

• Make sure your workday is varied! You'll have tasks that involve desk work, processing criminals, and listening to the rants of civilians - try to get as many tasks done in one area at once to save time.
• Going on Patrol might seem useful as it raises performance with little effort, but it's time-consuming. Only do this when it's a promotion requirement .
• When you have tasks that require socialization, such as " Get Witness Report ," the correct option should appear immediately when clicking on a target.
• If you manage to be Focused while at work, you become more efficient at your job. To enable this, try placing items with Focusing auras around your office.

If you find yourself running out of time to complete all of your allotted tasks, you can extend the workday by clicking the button next to the timer. This button can also be used to leave work early if you're particularly expedient with your daily tasks.

In order to go to a Crime Scene, click on the Crime Map in the office. Once you're at the Crime Scene, you will be presented with a new list of objectives that will let you gain clues for your current case and progress your performance bar.

• Click the ground to search for clues . These might be suspicious items or pieces of graffiti.
• When you have found clues, you should take samples and take photographs of them to get as much evidence as possible.
• You will also have to question witnesses . Look around for them, as they can sometimes be hard to find. You will know if a Sim is a potential witness if you get the option to interview them on your first click.

Once you have completed all of the tasks at the Crime Scene, you can click on your Sim and return to the office. There, you should file the Crime Scene Evidence at your computer.

Solving a case is the end result after lots of police work that involves searching crime scenes, pondering clues on the Crime Board, and finally Issuing an APB . This can only be done when you have enough evidence collected and will take you to a location where the suspect can be found.

When out and about, you need to use your phone's notebook feature to keep track of all of your clues . These will be things like the suspect's hair color and gender - these will lead you to your suspect.

Talk to people to find out things about them, and when you think you have your target identified, arrest them .

Once arrested and taken to the station, you need to interrogate your suspect . You can take a few different methods (Good Cop, Bad Cop, etc.) but rely on evidence, and you should make them crack eventually - assuming you caught the right Sim of course!

If you can extract a confession from a guilty Sim, you'll have solved your first case . Congratulations!

Progressing through the Detective Career is spelled out quite simply for you in the career menu. The first few ranks of the career are varied, but it quickly becomes focused on solving cases. The table below details each rank of the Detective Career and their promotion requirements.

As you progress through the Detective Career, you will earn a ton of rewards. In addition to cash bonuses, you can acquire new clothes and new items.

To wear your new clothes, you can edit your outfits with a wardrobe or a mirror . The item rewards are inserted directly into your household inventory, but you can buy extras once you've acquired one.

The table below details what you'll get and when.

Along with cash rewards, you'll slowly but surely unlock everything you need to build your own jail if you aren't using Build/Buy cheats to access them early.

Detective work starts at the police station. Early levels of this profession cast you as low-level officer, and when you have cases to work, you'll have fewer objectives. Cases can even be solved quickly, sometimes within the same day. As you climb the ranks, cases will become more complex.

If you're between cases and have nothing better to do, the basic way to begin your job is to go on patrol. To do so, simply interact with the large case map corkboard in the main offices. Once you're on patrol, you'll be teleported to a random zone. Generally you cannot enter buildings, so you'll need to scan the area and look for a problem such as a litterer or a fight. (Consider pausing the game here to get your bearings.) Once you find a crime in progress, interact with the suspect to make your Sim issue them a citation; once the order is given, the suspects will wait patiently for your Sim to arrive. SimCity will be safe for another day!

You may also be tasked with chatting with civilians. In this case, the Friendly-type interactions will not help. To pass this objective, you'll need to either use a Funny- or Mean-type interaction, depending on how you want them to view SimCity's finest. When you're ready to leave, use a self-interaction to return to the police station.

Patrol is an uncommon task in the detective profession. Usually you will be given a case to work out. To start out, you'll need to interact with a computer in the station. Once you've got it, you can set up a new case file with the case map. You can also use the map to teleport to the crime scene.

The crime scene is always a random house. You'll be tasked to interview witnesses or look for clues. Clues are fairly easy to find: just look for any miscolored area on the ground as if someone sprayed paint on it, or any dislodged and damaged objects. Keep your eye on the objectives list to see what exactly you need to do in any crime scene. Note that you can take photos and collect samples of the same evidence spot.

When you leave the crime scene, you will not be able to return, so be sure to gather all the clues and witness statements you can. Eventually your only objective will be to return to the police station.

Once you're back, you'll need to start working on the case if your objectives want you to. If not, don't worry: cases remain outstanding for as many days as you need them to be. If you can't solve a case in a single day, focus on other objectives until you are required to head home. You can resume the case the next shift.

To deduce clues, you'll need to interact with objects based on what exactly you gathered. The process is the same either way, but should be dictated by what's on your objectives list. One example is that you may use a computer and use the Crosscheck Police Database interaction. Then select any clue you have; oddly you can select a clue from a previous case. Or, you might have to analyze a clue with the Spectrum Analyzer object. Try to follow the objectives list so you can maximize your job performance gain.

Regardless of the tool you use, after the action and animation cycle finishes, you'll get a clue to the perpetrator. Add it to the crime board lock it in. Once the clue is on the board, it'll be mirrored to your Sim's phone notebook. To access that, click your phone, then the phone-and-stylus icon at the top of the window.

Note that on early levels of this profession, your objectives will not ask you to finish solving the case. This is due to your level: lowest-level rookie cops are there to assist, not take over investigations. As such, trying to "cheat the system" by catching crooks before the objectives list wants you to won't help your job progress. You still can do it if you want, but it won't help lead to promotions.

Once the objectives list allow you to and you have enough clues to solve the case, you can interact with the crime map to put out an all-points bulletin on the suspect. This will teleport you to a random lot where your suspect is guaranteed to be. Review your clues to deduce who the suspect is, then slap your handcuffs on him with a social interaction. If you deduce wrongly, you'll take a serious hit to your job performance and risk being demoted or fired.

When you're tracking the suspect, you can ask anyone nearby for help. Most Sims will then gesture in the general direction of the Sim suspect based on the number of clues you have. Be warned that if you ask the suspect themselves where the suspect is, they'll happily send you off on a random direction.

After the arrest, you'll be sent back to the police station. Your job may not be done as you'll still need to interrogate the suspect. With a high enough Charisma Skill and enough evidence, you can convince them to confess. Either interact with the suspect or an interrogation table choose the appropriate command to start the interrogation. There you can play good cop or bad cop and confront them with the evidence, thus filling the orange bar at the top-center of the screen.

Once the orange bar is full, you can finish off the arrest and book them into the little jail attached to the station. Again though, try to only do the objectives listed; any additional action is a waste of your time and won't help your job performance.

Crime never sleeps in SimCity, and even once your suspect has been booked and jailed, there will be another case for you from the computer. Keep at it to rise through the ranks and become the chief of police!

Case success notification: (Sim Name 1) is still bitter about the call, but I think the games and the league will be much better with a return to good referees. I accepted payment and bid farewell. This case, like the game, is over.

Case success notification: (Sim Name 1) can hardly believe it. Honestly, I can hardly believe it myself. Strange happenings in a strange town. Well, you can't win 'em all. This'll have to be the one that got away.

The Case of the Culinary Backstab [ ]

Case success notification: (Sim Name 3) is furious to hear about the double-cross and how my client treated the bistro's customers, including me, with food poisoning. (Sim Name 3) guarantees that vengeance will be had and all will be set straight. In the meantime, (Sim Name 3) made caloric filled amends with a delicious plate of chow [ sic ] . The Case of the Hacker Elite [ ]

The Case of the One Bad Apple [ ]

Case success notification: The owner was quick to note the age old saying – look how one bad apple can ruin the bunch. It saddens me to see corruption from within, but I'm sure the store will be fine after this apple is de-wormed. Case closed.

Ballot Buffoonery [ ]

Case success notification: (Sim Name 1) now has the evidence to contest the election. I'm sure the newspapers will have a field day with this scandal. I'm glad I did my part for local democracy. Case closed.

The Case of the Cop Gone Rogue [ ]

Case success notification: The evidence was finally enough to get a warrant and bring this crook to justice. The client was finally redeemed and received a full promotion for solving the case. I can't say whether I had anything to do with that… just doing my job. Case closed.

The Case of the Fishermen's Local 105 [ ]

Case success notification: I explained to (Sim Name 1) that there have been shark sightings off the coast recently, but that they should be migrating away shortly. (Sim Name 1) thinks I consulted with local scientists. I think that's a tale I'll let stand for now. Case closed.

The Case of the Disappearing Auto [ ]

Case success notification: (Sim Name 4) was taken to jail and the cops paid me a handsome fee for my detective work. Being a good sleuth pays in dividends, especially when you can out think criminals as fast as I can. Case closed.

Case success notification: (Sim Name 1) is delighted to see the items returned, though there was a bit of awkwardness when I wouldn't reveal the name of the thief. No matter. I took my payment and left. Case closed.

When you think of gaming, homework probably is the furthest thing from your mind– but in the Sims 4, knowing how to do homework is the key to becoming a successful student, integral with the parenting skill, and impacts your Sims’ life in a few ways.

One thing’s for certain: whether you’re trying to raise a family, or cramming study sessions in between dorm parties, knowing how to do homework is a must in the Sims 4– and there’s more to it than you might think. Consider this your guide to homework, and all things related, in the Sims 4.

Homework in Sims: A Brief History

Homework has been signature gameplay in the Sims franchise. As a life simulator, it only makes sense that, just like players have to contend with paying bills, cleaning dirty dishes, and juggling careers with relationships, parenting, and everyday life. And it’s actually rather interesting to see how doing homework in the Sims has been important from generation to generation, but also evolved.

Here’s a Sparknotes version of the history of homework in the Sims franchise.

Homework was not a mainstay of the original Sims game, but it was in the Sims 2. In the Sims 2, homework was important for teens, kids, and the then-new young adult life stage.

Children and Teens

A child and teen in the Sims 2 were required to go to school (with options for both public and private). Homework was generated daily. After the bus brought the kid home, that child Sim would have a physical copy of homework in their hand. Normally, homework would be set on a desk or nearby surface, though I remember many times it would just as often be placed on the ground. Completing homework had a direct effect on the Sims’ grades. Every day without incomplete homework resulted in a deduction.

A teen’s homework was a duller color, compared with the bright hues of a kid’s homework. If a Sims’ needs were not met, then they would likely not finish homework. When a Sim aged up, their homework automatically disappeared.

There were a few basic interactions for children and teens with homework in the Sims 2.

• Work on Homework
• Complete Homework
• Ask for Homework Help — this could be asked of any older Sim, and not only helped Sims complete homework more quickly, but also allowed them to complete homework more efficiently in the future.

Young Adults

Young adults were introduced in the Sims 2 University expansion pack, and have since become perhaps the most popular life stage in the Sims franchise. In the Sims 2, this life stage was limited to the University expansion. These young adults worked on assignments in order to influence their grades. It worked in a similar way as with kids and teens, though in addition to homework, they also had exams to deal with.

Sims 3 continued the homework system from Sims 2, making it clear that doing homework would become an expected gameplay feature in the Sims franchise. In many ways, Sims 3 kept the same basic systems for homework intact but enhanced it through new traits, packs, and an updated interface.

School, again, was mandatory for children in the Sims 3 , with a new boarding school option for no private school. If a Sim was sent to boarding school, there was nothing that you needed to worry about in terms of completing homework. Otherwise, it worked more or less the same way: new homework was generated and had to be completed for every school day.

New features included:

• The ability to do homework with a Sim of the same age
• The ability to copy homework (which could send them to detention)
• Ability to work on past due homework
• Enhanced homework completion with the workaholic and bookworm traits or if your Sim was a vampire (Sims 3: Supernatural expansion)
• Homework became a hidden skill
• Sims with an A average could select their new trait when they became a teen or young adult
• Grades listed in the new Simology panel

Young Adults (and Adults)

Sims who opted to attend college (via the Sims 3: University Life expansion pack), of course, had homework of their own. Homework, or assignments, were fairly similar to Sims 2, and, like Sims 2, the grades were determined by other factors like exams, but also somewhat how they behaved in their seminars, as well as outside projects.

Homework in the Sims 4- Your Guide

If you’ve played previous Sims games, the good news is that homework in the Sims 4 isn’t too different from previous Sims games. But like each generation, there are different tricks and tips you need to keep in mind to be successful, whether you are just looking to complete homework to help teens pass high school, or your Sims are tackling on a degree at the University of Britechester or Foxbury Institute of Technology.

Here’s what I think you need to know.

Children are required to go to school, and Sims 4 does arguably take a step back in that public school is the only option for children and teens.

Getting to School

In a curious move, Sims 4 does not have any transportation that picks Sims up. In fact, the lack of even cars in the game has been a source of contention. In any case, a school bus won’t pick up children or teens, nor can you watch them make their way to school, as you could in the Sims 3. Instead, children and teens will either automatically transport themselves to school, or you can prompt them.

Decisions During School

Especially if you have Sims 4 Parenthood game pack, you can influence teen and child Sims’ days at school, at least a little. Pop-ups may occasionally come up where you are given a scenario, just as another kid caught cheating, or your Sim being teased. Some of these will impact your Sim’s mood and social life. Sometimes, a child or teen will also ask for advice, which is tied to Sims 4 Parenthood parenting skills.

Locating Homework

As was the case with Sims 2, there is a small distinction in the appearance of children and teens’ homework. Children Sim will have a yellow Grade School Handbook, which, when not being worked on, is typically in their inventory. Teen homework is a blue notebook.

If you’re like me, though, sometimes homework gets lost in the house. If that happens you can actually purchase homework from a bookcase for a single simoleon. And unlike in the Sims 2, homework isn’t assigned to one Sim in particular, meaning a kid can complete their homework even if it wasn’t their original copy.

How to Do/ Complete Homework

To work on homework, simply drag it out of your Sims’ inventory and click on it for the “Do Homework” option. You can have your Sim to do homework all at once, or pick it back up after taking care of their needs. Remember, your teen or child Sim will be assigned homework every school day, with no new homework on weekends.

Homework and Grade Performance

Knowing how to do homework in Sims 4 is helpful for grade performance, but it also isn’t the only factor. In fact, by building skills, working on projects, and even keeping your Sims in a good mood, you can remain a fairly good student even when you skip homework from time to time.

Sims that are at a B or A average also will have access to the “Do Extra Credit” option. This pops up after they complete their homework for the day and you select their homework a second time (homework doesn’t disappear after being completed like previous Sims games). Extra credit is a chance to boost your Sims’ grades even more.

School Projects

School Projects are a unique feature exclusive to the Sims 4: Parenthood game pack. Available to teens and children, Sims can both work on their own projects and assist others. Working on a project builds all child skills at once.

Unlike homework, there is no official deadline for school projects so there aren’t penalties for however long it takes. Once a project is completed, the student can start on a new one. Adults can help both teens and kids; kids can be helped by teens/.

You’ll be able to select from one of seven projects, all available for purchase on build mode. The completed project will be rated as excellent, good, or poor. Siblings may get upset with one another if their project is destroyed by a brother or sister.

How to Do Homework Faster

I admit; sometimes I get impatient with doing homework in Sims 4, especially if I have other plans for the family. The good news is that, if you work on your Sims’ skills, you can speed up the process for children.

You’ll need to work equally on the four major skills for Sim Children: creativity; mental; motor; social; and mental. Level 3 of all of these allows you to “Breeze through Homework” while level 7 allows them to “Dominate Homework”.

For teens, your only real option is installing a mod (which I will discuss later).

University Students

Young adult and adult Sims can attend one of two campuses if you have the The Sims 4: Discovery University expansion pack installed. Homework, as you might imagine, is part of the equation–but the homework system looks different for adult and young adult Sims than it does for younger Sims, which impacts how you should do homework.

Getting Accepted

I won’t go into a full guide to the Discover University pack, but, in a nutshell, you Sim will have to first apply using a computer. Based upon their previous grades, skill set, and some other factors, they will either be offered or denied admission to the program of their choice at the University of Britechester of Foxbury Institute of Technology.

There is also the opportunity to gain scholarships and take out loans to finance their education. In my experience, most get accepted to school but may be limited to pursuing an honorary degree. Humanities-based degrees at Britechester, like English Literature, are honorary, while if you want a science or technology degree with distinction your Sim should attend the more modern Foxbury.

Homework Load at University

Homework is a part of the university experience in Sims 4, and doing it will help your Sims’ performance. Homework appears in their inventory (as a black and white book) and is meant to be completed before every class. You can also purchase homework from a bookshelf or the college’s kiosk (found out on the quad).

Classes are usually in the form of seminars and do not last all day, but your Sim, depending on your enrollment decisions, will likely have at least two classes per day, meaning you’ll have to juggle multiple assignments.

Other Types of Homework

In addition to doing daily homework, Sims need to attend class regularly. You’ll also be working towards end of the semester exams, final projects, and term papers, depending on the class. Doing homework daily is helpful in keeping their grade average high, and putting a little less pressure on a term paper. It is possible to flunk out of college, so doing homework on a regular basis and attending classes is a must.

How to Make Homework Easier

Knowing how to do homework doesn’t cut it, though. Between classes, roommates, parties, extracurriculars, and just taking care of basic needs, if you’re like me, you’ll want to tip things in your Sims’ favor a little. Here are some tips

• Work on skills related to their major, or current classes
• Keep your Sim in a good mood by keeping needs in check
• Decorate your space with objects that exude a “Focused” mood (you can see this if you hover over objects in buy mode)
• Lock your dorm room to other Sims when studying
• Work on the Research and Debate skills
• Study in the library or another place if your roommate is partying
• Live off-campus and apply the “Study Spot” lot traits

Using Mods for Better Homework

If you know how to do homework in the Sims 4 but want it to run more smoothly, another option is to download a mod. I always caution that mods are at your own risk, and they can break, so make sure you check to see that the mod has been updated and that you’re downloading from a secure site.

Better Autonomous Homework by LittleMsSam

This mod fixes what many saw as a deficit in the Sims 4 homework system, by making sure that child Sims will do their homework without your prompting. Now and Sim with an A, B, or C average won’t require you to direct them to do their homework, at least initially.

There are optional add ons, too, such as careers affecting the speed they complete their homework; automatic transfer of homework to inventories when not in use; and a mod for NPCs. Read/ Download Here .

Faster Homework (University Edition) by Scarlet’s Mods

As the name suggests, this mod allows your Sims studying at college to do homework faster. While homework normally takes 150 Sim minutes to complete, this mod allows them to complete it in 10, 25 or 50 minutes. It’s truly a huge time saver. Read/ Download Her e.

Subject Homework by ScarletQueenKat

Subject Homework adds a little nuance and potential storytelling element for how to do homework for teens and kids in the Sims 4, all the while improving skills. Children will now be able to practice vocabulary (improves motor skill); review social studies (increases social skill) and do math problems (improves mental skill).

Teens can now solve algebra problems (increases logic skill); write a fitness article (raises fitness skill); practice creative writing (increases writing skill); and study music theory (improve the guitar skill).

Question: Where is homework located in The Sims 4?

Answer: You can find homework in your Sims’ inventory. Sometimes. Sims will work on it and place it elsewhere. If you lose homework, it can be purchased from a bookshelf for one simoleon, or at a University kiosk for college students.

Question: Can you grade homework in Sims 4?

If you have Sims 4 Discover University installed, you get an opportunity to grade homework if your Sim is in the Education Career. To grade homework, you need to navigate to the Education Career menu. From there, you can access student homework.

Final Thoughts

Knowing how to do homework in the Sims 4 can make your playing experience a lot easier. With the help of skills, and maybe some mods, homework will take up less of your gameplay time, while your Sims still stay top students–if they, and you, so choose.

lol! @Simslover Sorry about that, have the flu right now and the brain is rather foggy! Hahaha, let me know if it works!  Needless to say there is a bug about the DETECTIVE career (lol)  in fact there are quite a few but I am not sure if any are exactly what you are describing. Include/Exclude Assignments (Case Simulations)

As the professor, you have the ability to include and/or exclude assignments from your Case Simulation.   This feature is especially helpful in managing your projects.   To Include or Exclude assignments from your Case Simulation, please follow the instructions below:

1.  Log into your instructor account.

2.  From the "Your Courses" page, select the link for the course that you wish to configure.

3.  Select the  Change Course Settings button on the Course Details page.

4.  Next select the Change Order of Modules & Enable Teams  accordion option.

Including/Excluding Assignments:

The screen is divided into two parts: Included Case Sims and Excluded Case Sims .  Assignments that are currently part of the course will appear under the Included Case Sims area, while assignments that are not currently part of the course appear under the Excluded Case Sims area.  

To Include an Assignment:

1.  Click on the assignment under the Excluded Case Sims list.

2.  Click on the Include button.

3.  Assignment will now appear at the bottom of the Included Case Sims list.

4.  Click the Submit Changes  button at the bottom of the menu to save your changes.

To Exclude an  Assignment :

1.  Click on the assignment under the Included Case Sims list.

2.  Click on the Exclude button.

3.  Assignment will now appear in the the Excluded Case Sims list.
