This printable pack has everything from letter e activities to coloring pages to alphabet books to tracing to letter sounds practice!

Be sure to read through my notes and suggestions for each worksheet to get the very most out of it!

Check Out Your Free Printable Letter E Worksheets!

Letter E Worksheet 1

This fun coloring page is how I always like to start this part of our collection of alphabet worksheets.

Younger children love to learn through pictures and coloring. It gives their hands and their mind something to do while you are explaining new concepts.

As you can see, you will be introducing the upper case E and showing your kids some things that start with the short e sound.

They should recognize egg, elephant, elf, envelope, elbow, and eleven.

Yes, there are other letter e sounds to learn. For example, earn, eye, and ear.

Because these free printables are meant for students just being introduced to this new letter, we are only going to focus on the short sound. This will help your kid tremendously with sounding out CVC words in the future.

The other sounds will come with time when you start teaching phonics lessons in later grades.

Letter E Worksheet 2

Now that your young children know a little bit about what the /e/ looks like and what it sounds like, we are going to make one with play dough!

This is a fun way to help kids learn letter formation – without the frustrating fine motor skills needed when writing with a pencil.

Help your child roll out a “rope” of play dough and then have them work to cover the white line.

If you don’t have play dough, feel free to use whatever you have on hand: pipe cleaners, do-a-dot markers, construction paper scraps, or even rolled up paper towels!

Letter E Worksheet 3

This tracing worksheet is a great way to introduce your young learners to writing letter e. Show your student how to follow the numbers and dotted lines to make the letter correctly.

Students will only have to trace lowercase e and capital E a handful of times. This will keep them from being overwhelmed or frustrated.

Watch closely to make sure they follow the correct order of writing the lines.

The dotted lines will serve as a guide to help them understand size and placement, which is especially helpful for the lowercase letters.

Letter E Worksheet 4

Think of this as a practice sheet for your student as they begin writing without dotted lines.

There are examples at the top of the page as a guide.

Give lots of encouragement and praise for all progress. It will take time – especially for lowercase letter e – but they will improve with regular handwriting practice.

Letter E Worksheet 5

This letter recognition worksheet will help your child sharpen their letter identification skills!

Pull out your do-a-dot markers and have your student dab every capital letter E they can find among the uppercase letters.

Letter E Worksheet 6

This is a similar sheet for the lower case letters.

Encourage your child to say the short e sound each time they dab it!

Afterward, they can color the cute elf with crayons or their dot markers.

****No worries if you don’t have the markers. They can be a little pricey. You will get just as much out of this free worksheet if you use regular markers, colored pencils, stickers, cotton balls, or anything else you have on hand.

Letter E Worksheet 7

This letter e coloring page is a wonderful practice for the letter sound your child is focusing on this week.

Go through each image and make sure they understand what they are looking at.

The child should eventually color elbow, eleven, elevator, elephant, elf, egg, and envelope.

Letter E Worksheet 8

Here your children can draw an e word they have learned or a new one.

If your child feels stuck, feel free to help them out!

Ask them a riddle-style question to get them thinking.

When I’m in an empty room and sound bounces back to me, it’s called an…e-e-echo!

If I eat all the ice cream, the container won’t be full. It will be…e-e-empty!

Letter E Worksheet 9

This alphabet book is always a fun activity for kids to work through.

They make a great keepsake and review for the future!

Give your student as much time as they need to color, trace, cut out, and bind their very own book!

They will be so proud of themselves when this project is complete.

Letter E Worksheet 15

This is another tracing worksheet for extra practice.

Have your kid trace the large letters to refresh themselves on the proper order of writing the lines before doing the rest of the tracing work.

Letter E Worksheet 16

This is a review sheet that covers much of what you’ve learned this week!

Your child will trace letters Ee, write Ee, color the elephant, identify the capital E letters and lowercase e letters, and color the letter e pictures.

They should color egg, elf, envelope, and elbow.

Letter E Worksheet 17

This is the last of the printable activities!

Your student can enjoy several mazes, more tracing, drawing, and coloring.

Letter E Worksheets – 55+ Free Printables

Posted on Last updated: March 31, 2024

Hello Daydreamers!

I’ve been working around the clock to bring you the following “Letter E worksheets.” Out of all the worksheets I’ve worked on. The letter E has been the trickiest one, in the sense that many great words start with the letter E but are a bit hard to illustrate for kids.

No worries, though! I found many fantastic words that will make teaching the letter E a breeze!

Since there are more than 55 worksheets in this single article, I am 100% convinced you’ll find resources for preschool, kindergarten, and even 1st and 2nd grade.

All these pages are in PDF format and designed to be printed on letter-sized paper. I tried my best to utilize the space but also give you enough room to perforate them and use a binder.

printable worksheets letter e

Feel free to print as many copies of the worksheets as you need for teaching purposes. However, please note that selling or claiming them as your own is prohibited. If you know of any fellow moms or teachers who would like to use them, please share the link to this article with them.

There are two ways to download the worksheets:

  • Click on the page you want to download to open a new window with a PDF format, then proceed to print from that window.
  • Trigger a download to your phone or computer by clicking the yellow “Download PDF” button under each page you want to print.

Line Tracing Practice With Emphasis in the Letter E

Do you have a preschooler or a very young child? Line tracing worksheets are the first step before your child can trace a letter.

The following line tracing worksheets focus on the letter “E,” providing a fun way to introduce your child to this letter.

As you continue scrolling, the worksheets gradually increase in difficulty while being enjoyable and distinct from the previous ones.

Letter E – Writing Practice Sheets

Looking for ways to practice writing the letter E?

The following Letter E tracing worksheets are a great way to practice.

You may want to start with the first sheet if you have very young children. Sometimes, as adults, we want our kids to finish an entire page of writing or want them to follow the activity to the T.

letter e trace worksheet free printable

Well, let me tell you that young children sometimes want to trace a couple of letters or color all over the place.

That’s OK! Exposure is the most important thing at this age.

letter e trace worksheet free printable with letter formation prompts.

I’ve also included letter formation prompts to help guide your child’s writing.

  • Uppercase E: down, out, out, out.
  • Lowercase e: out, back around, leave it open.

If you want to expose your children to ASL, I’ve also included a worksheet that shows how to sign the letter E with your hands.

Cursive E – Writing Practice Sheets

Although cursive writing seems to be a thing of the past, I firmly believe that children should be exposed to it at some point during their school years.

letter e cursive worksheet free printable

Did you know that cursive writing is beneficial for building fine motor skills and activating a distinct part of the brain compared to regular writing?

After your child colors and traces the first worksheet, you can have them cut small pieces of paper and glue them to fit the letters.

The following Cursive E worksheet includes letter formation prompts to guide your child while learning to write cursive uppercase and lowercase “e.”

  • Cursive – Uppercase E: pull back, in, loop back, and swing up.

I also have a different worksheet with the lowercase e because kids learn with repetition. Both sheets have different pictures to increase vocabulary and keep things engaging.

Color, Letter, and Number Recognition Worksheets

Whenever my three-year-old sees scissors and glue, his little eyes are so bright. There’s something about cutting and gluing that makes my kids so happy!

The following worksheets will not only help your kids learn the letter e, colors, and numbers, but they will do it by cutting and pasting.

There are two main activities.

The first one involves only letter and number recognition (1-10). The child needs to count the number of Es and glue the correct number in a small box.

There’s a worksheet for uppercase and another one for lowercase e.

Letter e worksheet free printables. Number, and letter recognition.

The second activity has the child cut the letters and numbers (1-5) and paste them on the respective color. There’s a worksheet for lowercase and uppercase E, and one with both. Printing a full page of color can be expensive, so you may want to tackle the worksheet with both forms of the letter E.

Letter E Puzzles

Puzzles can enhance memory, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail, reducing stress levels. In this fast-paced world, we need more of these types of activities.

I included a puzzle for the uppercase and lowercase E. However, if your child loves puzzles, I have a puzzle for each letter.

You can print the puzzle sheets, laminate and cut them out. This way, your child can practice the letter “E” while gaining all the benefits I mentioned.

Letter E Maze Worksheets

Do you want your students to develop creative thinking, improve memory, and learn patience and resilience? Mazes are an excellent opportunity to help them gain those skills.

The following mazes are for children aged 5+. They are easy but challenging, so your students will gain confidence as they practice.

The following maze is shaped in the form of an uppercase E.

This one is shaped in the form of a lowercase e.

See if your student can deduct that before you point it out!

My son usually doesn’t like writing that much, but if a maze is the reward, he will write, read, or color anything!

I also have some creative mazes.

  • Help the elephants find something to eat.
  • Help the eagle find the eaglets.

Letter E worksheet free printables. Help the elephant find food.

Something interesting I learned while working on this worksheet is that elephants could care less about peanuts. How about watching a little video about elephants? What they like to eat, where they live, and why they can’t jump!

Read and Match Worksheets

Have the student color the pictures and match them with the right word.

Letter E worksheet free printables. Find the word that matches the picture.

If the child doesn’t know how to read, he may need your help. You can read the words to them and encourage them to repeat them after you. This can help them improve their vocabulary and language skills while enjoying the activity.

Tip: Introduce your student to the long and short sounds of the letter E.

There are two ways you can use the following worksheets.

I first designed them to have the child color, cut, and then glue the illustration on the right word.

You can also use them as a memory game by printing the worksheets twice.

Start with the number of sheets your child has the attention span for. Kids learn at every moment of the day, so it shouldn’t feel like a chore for them.

I Spy Worksheets for letter E

“I Spy” games are a fantastic way for your little ones to master concepts while having fun!

Identify the Different Image Worksheets

I enjoy helping my children develop their cognitive skills by incorporating various activities. This activity involves identifying which illustration is different from the rest.

When designing them, my six-year-old son sometimes sits next to me and says, oh, my favorite! Most of the time, he can spot which illustration is different. However, sometimes, I make them a little more complicated; therefore, they may need help.

If the student struggles to identify the letter E, the following worksheet may help. The worksheet requires them to identify the different variations of the letter E.

Coloring Pages for Letter E

There’s nothing like coloring and learning at the same time! The following coloring sheets are a great way to introduce your child to the letter E. They are fun and have many little details that can spark your kid’s curiosity.

Some of the coloring worksheets have a small letter E tracing area so your kids can also practice writing skills.

Letter E coloring page worksheet free printables. E is for earth.

I loved the “E is for egg.” We love eggs in our family, all shapes and forms, and I am glad I could put together such eggcellent page!

Tip: Learning happens over time, and by asking your little students questions, you’ll help them learn and understand the world around them. Here are some conversational topics you can have with them.

  • Did you know we’ve sent rockets from the Earth to the moon?
  • Would you like to send a card in an envelope to Grandma (another relative/friend)? Take time to explain how mail stamps work.
  • What are your favorite types of eggs? Fried, poached, scrambled, hardboiled, etc.
  • Exercising is very important because it keeps and makes our body strong.
  • Do you like elephants?

One page may seem small, but if you prompt questions and encourage topic conversations, your child can learn a lot!

Letter E Flashcards

Flashcards are a fantastic tool for learning and can be used in various settings, including outside on a picnic blanket. So go ahead and enjoy the great outdoors while you learn!

Letter E flashcards free printables.

Print, laminate, and cut them to reinforce the letter E wherever you go.

All these flashcard worksheets include examples of both the uppercase and lowercase E.

Word Search

Word search activities are so entertaining for small children and adults; they help with spelling, improve concentration, keep the brain active, and help develop problem-solving skills.

These worksheets are the way to go if you are heading out for a long trip or to start a successful homeschooling day.

Letter E word search free printables.

I included three different worksheets because one is just too little for how fun they are.

That’s it!

So there you have it – a variety of fun and engaging ” Letter E worksheets” to use with your students or children. Don’t forget to keep things interesting by mixing and matching different worksheets and illustrations.

Letter E Worksheets: E Tracing and Coloring Pages

From eggs to elephants, these fun worksheets will help preschoolers recognize and write the letter E.

Letter E Worksheets: E Tracing and Coloring Pages

The letter E is often the first vowel kids learn. The uppercase version is easy to write and align on the writing paper. The lowercase e is slightly challenging but is still easy to write, making it an excellent letter to teach after lowercase c.

To help kids remember how to write an uppercase E, show them that when it’s put on its side, it resembles an elephant’s ears and trunk. E is also eager , so its lines face the letter next to it. The lowercase e is also eager and faces the letter next to it.

Since the letter E is a vowel, it’s taught early in most reading curriculums. Since the short /e/ and /i/ sounds are similar, you should teach them separately and give kids plenty of time to learn the difference.

Free Printable Letter E Worksheets

Below are our free printable letter E worksheets. Use these in the classroom or as homework to help students practice their letter E writing and recognition.

Letter E Coloring Pages

Letter E coloring pages are helpful for younger kids as they get exposure to the shape of E. Letter recognition is one of the earliest reading skills kids develop, and it lays the foundation for reading words.

For the first sheet, kids are introduced to the letter E and the word “engineer.” It would pair well with reading Rosie Revere, Engineer by Andrea Beaty.

The second sheet is a color-by-letter sheet that helps kids recognize and distinguish between uppercase and lowercase E.

Letter E Recognition

Older preschoolers are ready to distinguish letters outside the alphabet’s context. They need exposure to the letter E both within texts and in isolation. They need to work with the letter in a variety of ways.

These two worksheets prepare students to read and write the letter E. The first sheet is a dot sheet that can be used with dot markers. The second allows students to distinguish uppercase and lowercase E from other letters.

Color the Letter Page

This free printable letter E worksheet focuses on identifying a specific upper case letter. With young students, they are still working on visual discrimination. These letter worksheets are a great way to practice letter recognition. This letter E fun coloring page only includes an uppercase E for that reason. Find the correct letter you are hunting for and color the picture.

printable worksheets letter e

Alphabet Tracing Worksheets

There are two tracing pages in the printable packs. One practice worksheet that includes only uppercase letters and the other includes a lowercase letter row for children that are ready or interested.

It takes a lot of fine motor skills for preschool kids to trace on the dotted lines. That’s why I only added 6 letters to each page of the capital letter E tracing letters pages.

If your child or student wants a little extra practice, I recommend tracing the letters with a highlighter first and then trace again with a pencil. That will give you double the amount of practice.

Letter Sounds Worksheets

In these free printable worksheets you are hunting for simple pictures that start with the corresponding letter E sound. When you find one that starts with the sound of the letter E, color it in. This is practicing letter-sound correspondence

With this practice sheet, you might need to sit with some children and stretch out the word with them so they can hear the beginning letter sounds. This worksheet might also be helpful for kindergarten students who need extra practice.

I’m going to walk you through the eight letter E printables that are available in this packet. Each of these pages offers practice with uppercase and lowercase E while building handwriting, vocabulary, fine motor skills, and phonetic awareness.

1. Preschool Letter E Worksheets

5. E Words Drawing Sheet

For this next letter E worksheet, your students are instructed to read the E word, trace the E word, then draw a picture to represent the E word. (Note: If your preschooler or kindergartener isn’t reading yet, you can read the word together before they go on to the next steps.)

6. E Word Tracing – Letter E Worksheets for Kindergarten

The last letter E worksheet is a vocabulary list of simple E words that showcase the short ‘e’ sound. Have your kids read each word out loud then trace each word using their best handwriting.

Tips for Teaching Letter E to Preschoolers & Kindergarteners

E is one of the simpler vowels because is has two main sounds: the short or long sound.

The long E sound says its name /ee/ as in the words: she, we, be . The short vowel sound says /eh/ as in: end, egg, and men .

When you begin teaching preschoolers the letter E, start by using the short vowel sound /eh/. (By sticking with sound per letter in the beginning, it prevents letter sound confusion, as they are learning all the other letter sounds of the alphabet.)

Also, the short vowel sound /eh/ is the easiest (as far as E rules goes) and will be the sound they will first associate with E when they begin reading.
