Synonym Chooser

How is the word evidence different from other verbs like it?

Some common synonyms of evidence are demonstrate , evince , manifest , and show . While all these words mean "to reveal outwardly or make apparent," evidence suggests serving as proof of the actuality or existence of something.

When can demonstrate be used instead of evidence ?

While the synonyms demonstrate and evidence are close in meaning, demonstrate implies showing by action or by display of feeling.

When is evince a more appropriate choice than evidence ?

In some situations, the words evince and evidence are roughly equivalent. However, evince implies a showing by outward marks or signs.

When is it sensible to use manifest instead of evidence ?

The words manifest and evidence are synonyms, but do differ in nuance. Specifically, manifest implies a plainer, more immediate revelation.

In what contexts can show take the place of evidence ?

The words show and evidence can be used in similar contexts, but show is the general term but sometimes implies that what is revealed must be gained by inference from acts, looks, or words.

Bon Jovi is still riding high on the Billboard charts following the recent release of their docuseries, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story . The Hulu show has reminded countless fans, both hardcore and casual, of how much they like the group and their music. As some of their songs and albums begin to fall down the weekly rankings following an initial impressive surge, one of the band’s biggest smashes is still climbing.

“You Give Love a Bad Name” climbs on the latest edition of the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart. This time around, the cut jumps from No. 24 to No. 22 on Billboard’s ranking of the most-streamed tunes in the U.S.

No. 22 now stands as the highest point that “You Give Love a Bad Name” has reached on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart. The tune debuted on the streaming-only list last frame, and notably, it’s still improving.

“You Give Love a Bad Name” is one of Bon Jovi’s two hits on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs tally this time around. Up inside the top 10 is their even-more-popular smash, “Livin’ on a Prayer.” That track is also surging, as it steps up from No. 10 to No. 9.

Unlike “You Give Love a Bad Name,” however, “Livin’ on a Prayer” is not hitting new peaks. The Bon Jovi classic has previously topped out at No. 4. It’s also spent many, many more frames on this tally than the newer entrant. “Livin’ on a Prayer” recently passed 200 weeks on the list, and it’s now up to 206 stints somewhere on the roster.

Bon Jovi dominated a number of Billboard’s rock charts last week as the impact from their docuseries could be seen clearly. One frame later, the group’s music is sliding backward, but streaming activity is keeping them going. It seems that fans were quick to buy their songs and albums, and now listening on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music is catching up.

“You Give Love a Bad Name” was released in 1986 as the lead single from their album Slippery When Wet . It gave the group their first No. 1 on the Hot 100, and it helped them reach a new level of fame and success. Clearly fans are still in love with the track to this day.
