Top 20 Model Agencies in Australia

modelling agencies sydney

I'm an Australian-based creative, Model and Branding Coach with big dreams of helping aspiring Models make their way into the industry and thrive. I'm obsessed with: integrity, authenticity, a tidy home, smashed avocado, and being the person I needed when I was younger. PSA: I don't take myself too seriously, though I do take my work seriously.

The only honest, professionally vetted go-to list you need to read of Australia’s top model agencies. The best in the business for new and experienced women, men, non-binary, classic, curve/plus-size, babies, toddlers, children, teenagers and pregnant models.

Professional advice

I’m all about sharing professional and reputable industry knowledge and advice. So you’ve come to the right place to learn about the Top 20 Model Agencies in Australia! If we haven’t yet met – Hi! I’m Kate . Your girl next door Aussie model, Model Coach and new BFF in the industry.

This article that I have prepared on the “Top 20 Model Agencies in Australia” has been written to help aspiring models based in all corners of Australia (from babies, children, teens through to women, men, non-binary, curve/plus-size, classic/mature and pregnant models) and their parents/care givers gain access to a professional list of reputable model agents to approach for representation.

From my 15+ years working as a Model and my 20+ years working as a branding and marketing specialist, the below list of model agencies I know are the best in the business. These homegrown local agencies, many with international connections, will without a doubt take your modelling career to the next level.

Beware of model scams

Before we go any further, it’s a responsibility of any working professional in the creative industry to be readily open and transparent about the dangers, red flags and warning signs of model scams. The hunger (and a lot of the time – sheer desperation) for exposure, fame and fortune has led many aspiring models and their parents down the garden path to disappointment and being ripped off. Don’t let this be you, learn what to be on the lookout for.

Break the model myth: don’t wait to be discovered

There’s a common “model myth” that some lucky ones get discovered on the street, at the mall, or on the beach. Some of our favourite supermodels and Victoria’s Secret models were discovered in this exact way. So you’d be forgiven for thinking that this still happens. However it’s important to remember that we now live in a dramatically different time where standards, work practices and markets have changed.

The internet has opened up many opportunities for aspiring models that would never have been dreamed of in the industry 30 years ago. The internet allows model agents and model scouts to market their models instantly and worldwide at the click of a mouse. Social media also allows an ‘open door policy’ for any aspiring model, anywhere, to apply to be represented.

If you’re an aspiring model, you can’t afford to wait around for the chance to be scouted. You need to put yourself out there to find work, and the best and most professional way to kick start your model career is by getting yourself signed with a reputable model or talent management agency.

“Modelling is not a birthright purely based on how you look. Modelling is a job and a profession. In exactly the same way you’d apply for any other job in any other industry, there are certain prerequisites and criteria that need to be met, and also maintained, to be successful.” ~ Kate Heussler

Turn your dream into a reality

There are many reputable model agencies based in Australia. Sydney and Melbourne are the home of both fashion and commercial model agencies and are the two perfect cities to find your footing in the industry, and further develop your career.

We all have a different look, physically and emotionally, so it is vital and far more important to find the perfect agency for YOU. This is where you will need to do your own in depth research and due diligence of your desired model agency, as their professional representation will not only benefit your career, it will also prevent the chance of you getting scammed or exploited.

Personal story

As a side note, I grew up in Darwin , capital of the Northern Territory, in Australia. For my international readers this is colloquially referred to as ‘crocodile country’ thanks to the movie export ‘ Crocodile Dundee ’. If you’re an Aussie, you know Darwin is NOT known for its model agencies or fashion houses that are nationally or internationally recognised. Fast track to today, I am now based in Sydney, and there’s a whole story in between my starting point and now – including living abroad and working with some amazing brands (all with zero connections, no ‘bank of mum and dad’, and no support).

Take it from me that if you come from a small town, don’t have any industry connects and don’t know where to start, know that THIS was exactly my entry point into the industry too – from scratch. Find something that works for you locally, and work your way up from there. It’s what I did, and I have no doubt you can too!

If you don’t ask, the answer is always NO.

The IT list: Top model agencies in Australia

If working as a model is your dream, there’s no better time to start than now. Read on for my comprehensive and reputable guide to the Top 20 Model Agencies in Australia. For context, this list does not include agencies that specifically classify as acting, influencer, management or promotional agencies.

Plus size model agency BELLA Models was founded in 2002 by Chelsea Bonner, a former international size 14 model. Chelsea believed many women sacrifice their health and happiness to fit a manufactured ideal of beauty, and she set about changing that dialogue to redefine beauty and the boundaries placed on fashion models.

Chelsea’s passion for body positivity and mental health in the industry caught the attention of clients on a global scale and became the mantra of her BELLA tribe. Now an internationally respected agency, BELLA boasts ‘world first’ covers and main fashion editorials for curve models in Sports Illustrated, Women’s Health, Seafolly, Vogue, ELLE, Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire to name a few.

The demand for BELLA’s holistic approach to model management was undeniable and in 2013 the brand launched a talent division, headed by Director Katherine Taylor. Originally from the UK, Katherine’s coveted role as Head Talent Manager saw her cast some of the biggest West End shows of the decade including Oliver, The sound of Music and The Lion King as well as countless TV commercials and TV Series throughout Europe and the UK.

BELLA established their main fashion board in 2015 under the experienced eye of Kerrie Press-May. With an impeccable career spanning more than two decades, Kerrie is highly regarded in the industry for her ability to scout and develop new models. Jacqui Morris and Sara Richardson joined BELLA in 2017, which saw the opening of their Melbourne office. Jacqui brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and an unparalleled sense of humour that has seen her through more than two decades in the industry. Sara has a keen eye for fashion and has booked her models on many high profile styling gigs.

Kult Models are constantly featured in leading campaigns for Calvin Klein, Gucci, Valentino, Bottega Venetta, Versace, Dior, Louis Vuitton and Givenchy, to name just a few, and can also be seen in major publications.

Silverfox Management

silverfoxmgmt.com.au

Boutique: Sydney, Melbourne, New Zealand Divisions: Classic Women, Classic Men , Icons/Influencers

Times are changing and there’s no better way to break down the stereotype that “all models need to be young” like a model agency that exclusively represents models aged 30 to 80+ years of age. The Co-Founder and Managing Director, Bridgette Warne, is constantly seeking to promote age-positivity within the fashion and beauty industries.

Some quick statistics – 50% of the Australian population is over 37 years old. The wealth of those aged 55+ is growing at a faster rate compared to any other demographic. And, despite the GFC, those aged 65+ control 30% of the total wealth in Australia. Mind blown!

Silverfox Management understands that brands continue to chase the affections of the young, while simultaneously saying 40 is the new 30, 60 the new 50 or even the new 45. They are actively reinventing the model industry, one silver fox at a time. Their mission is to represent Australia’s most in-demand models; those well-travelled trailblazers, whose beauty and intrigue transcends age.

They work with clients for model and acting roles across fashion, lingerie, fitness, advertising, presenting, editorial, TV, commercials, body doubles, and extras work. Bump Models™ are especially popular for their newborn babies, toddlers, juniors & teens up to 15 years old (they call this division “Cheeky Bumps). Twins and triplets are in demand for regular TV roles, and are open to a vast array of talent with different looks; diverse ethnicity, shapes, sizes, skills, experience, disability – you name it and they’d love to work with you.

Bump Models™ have had the honour of collaborating directly with International Directors on projects ranging from blockbuster movies, with featured & speaking roles, to high-end international TV commercials. For 13+ years they have built numerous reliable and long-lasting relationships with well-known companies in the creative industry, locally and abroad. Working with real families as opposed to strangers adds a genuine portrayal and natural glow to a production that is extremely difficult to replicate. Bump Models™ have been able to grow immensely over the years to service a unique client base for this reason.

Bump Models™ are often referred to as “baby gurus”. If you have seen a birthing scene in a show that was filmed in Australia, or perhaps that of a particularly adorable baby in a TV Commercial, it was more than likely produced by them. They are often contacted by other companies for advice on baby related projects and alike, because they have years of experience in the particular field. They actively follow and promote a strict safe working environment for children: Kids Guardian .

Sydney is often spoken of as australia’s largest market for the baby and kids modelling industries. that’s why you’ll find that many of the nation’s leading child talent agencies have offices right here in the city.

And, of course, as Australia’s longest-running child talent agency, Bubblegum Casting has our very own office in Sydney.

In fact, although our first office opened in melbourne way back in 1981, sydney is our largest market with our client base and talent book growing year on year..

Since our new owner and managing director Adam Jacobs took the reins, we’ve worked hard to make Bubblegum Casting one of the top child modelling agencies in Sydney.

We’ve hosted some incredible events for our Sydney-based models that have been super fun to be a part of. We’ve also broken new ground by offering some fantastic in-house workshops aimed at improving the skills of the models on our books.

Thanks to these workshops and the dedication of our Sydney team, many of the models on our books have enjoyed success working with some of Australia’s leading brands. We can even count a teen star or two among our wonderful kids.

As we continue to grow, we found it necessary to move our Sydney office to a new location and you can now find us at our new address  — 108/30 Fisher Road, Dee Why, NSW 2099

If you’re a company or photographer looking for a fresh face for your latest campaign or shoot, then our Sydney team will be more than happy to help.

And if you’re a parent with dreams of seeing your child on the catwalk or on the front cover of a magazine, then luckily for you, you’ve just found one of the most dedicated child and teenage modelling agencies in Sydney.

Seriously, we love making dreams come true so give us a call on  1800 491 828   and let’s get working on your child’s career.

Our clients love our Sydney-based models

The Harbour City is our largest market and as a result, we’ve become well respected as one of the most reputable baby, child, & teen modelling agencies in Sydney.

In recent years, we’ve been inundated with briefs from some of the most well-known brands looking for Sydney child models for their latest campaigns.

These big names include  Bunnings, Harcourt Education, Vic Roads, Herald Sun,  and  Just Jeans  among many more.  And when big brands want talent for their TV commercials, guess who they come to? That’s right, we’ve booked our kids TV commercials with names such as  Oreo, Wendys, Kraft, SPC, McDonalds, Ikea, Toyota, VW, Holden,  and  Sony .

BRANDS WE WORK WITH

We even have a few little stars who have performed on the big stage in productions for  The Australian Opera  and in shows such as  Oliver .

But that’s just a tiny sample of the work our Sydney-based child models have booked. If you want to know who else we’ve worked with, then go right ahead and check out  our work . You’ll be surprised just how many big names you recognise.

Bubblegum are great. They signed up baby Hubert and within 4 months he was already given the opportunity to be on TV! Everyone at Bubblegum are really easy to deal with and they a wonderful agency.

Etienne Rizzo

What a professional outfit, from the very beginning of the process. All the staff we interacted with really showed endless passion for what they do and it clearly showed in the final photos that were produced. They made us all feel special even though you see so many families on a day to day basis. Thank you.

My daughter has recently joined Bubblegum Casting and they’ve been amazing from the first interview with Adam and right through to booking her first job. Maria and the team in the office have been fantastic and super helpful. Can’t wait for what’s next!

The lucky kids that make it onto our books benefit from in-house workshops and coaching sessions to help them brush up on their skills. They’ll also get great advice and tips from the Bubblegum team, some of whom have worked as child models and actors themselves! We’ll even arrange a portfolio shoot with our in-house photographer.

We want all the kids on our books to have their chance to shine and if that means working twice as hard to make it happen, then that’s what we’ll do!

Hunter Talent is the adult division of the highly successful ‘Bubblegum’ children’s casting agency. I sought them out when I moved to Melbourne to provide me with opportunities for acting work on screen. I knew producers would be seeking adults as well as young people when casting talent to fill all roles. I have been a member of MEAA (Actors Equity) for over thirty years and have vast experience in the industry. I have made thousands of dollars of income so far with Hunter as my representative. They are great communicators, exceptionally friendly and have decades of experience. I look forward to exciting new roles as Hunter keeps presenting me with opportunities.

Hunter FAQs

Frequently asked questions, who are hunter talent.

Hunter Talent represents actors, models, creatives, and influencers aged 18 years and over.

We’re dedicated to unearthing the brightest talent and matching them with the best opportunities. Whether you’re an actor or a model, a creative or an influencer, you want to work with Australia’s leading brands, right? Well, we can help with that. With decades of experience in the industry, our agents have the contacts to get your portfolio in front of the right people.

We’re also a sister agency to Australia’s longest-running child talent agency Bubblegum Casting. While Bubblegum specialises in child talent.

Can anyone join Hunter Talent?

Yes and no. We represent actors, models, creatives, and influencers aged 18 and over.

We love people of all ages, shapes, sizes, and cultural backgrounds.

If you have talent, the will to succeed, and a solid work ethic, then you could be a good fit for Hunter Talent.

If you think this industry is good for a quick buck, then sorry but we probably won’t be able to work together.

How do I join Hunter Talent?

Call us old-fashioned, but we like to meet before we sign anyone to our books.

You can fill out our online application form and we’ll be in touch if we think you might be a good fit for the agency.

Who are your clients?

Hunter Talent has helped many of Australia’s leading brands and production companies find the right talent for their projects.

You can check out our list of clients right here . You should recognize a name or two 🙂

How much work will I get?

That’s the million dollar question right there.

The truth is that we have no idea as it all depends on your suitability to a role and a client’s requirements.

One thing we are sure of is that we’ll promote the hell out of you.

If a suitable brief comes in, we’ll make damn sure the right people see your portfolio.

The rest is up to you.

How many people do you represent?

We’re a boutique agency and that means that we place quality over quantity in everything we do.

We have about 300 super-talented folk on our books and we can vouch for the professionalism of each and every one. We can probably even tell you how they all like their coffee too.

Can I be a member of more than one agency?

That’s a definite no.

Seriously, when two agencies put you forward for the same role, it looks super unprofessional for both you and the agencies involved. Don’t do this thinking you’ll get more work because it could hurt your career.

How much commission do you take?

This depends on the job in question but our commission ranges from 10 – 20%

Do you charge fees to join the agency?

No, we do not charge fees to join the agency. However, we do require you to pay for portal subscriptions that are critical casting tools for the entertainment industry.

We also require you to have high-quality, professional headshots. If you don’t already have headshots, we can organise a shoot with one of our amazing in-house photographers for a reasonable fee.

Do I need to sign a contract?

Yes, we have a commission agreement that you sign when you join the agency. This is a legally binding document and it’s there to protect everyone involved (that means you too).

The commission agreement is usually for a period of twelve months as this gives us plenty of time to put your forward for suitable opportunities.

The commission agreement can be terminated at any time by mutual consent because after all, sometimes things just don’t work out.

How Much Do Child Models Get Paid in Australia?

Child models can earn upwards of $20,000 a year. Jobs range from a hundred dollars to a few thousand. Child models who model in TV commercials, billboard advertisements, and magazine shoots often have the largest earnings. Children can earn up to $10,000 for one job. Sometimes companies even pay $200 an hour!

Models can earn royalties from commercials or photographs that have been used multiple times. Thus, models have the chance to earn more than their initial paycheck.

Sydney dominate Carlton as Swans tighten grip on top of AFL ladder in SCG Marn Grook match

Sport Sydney dominate Carlton as Swans tighten grip on top of AFL ladder in SCG Marn Grook match

Chad Warner holds his arms out in celebration of a goal

Sydney have soared two wins clear on top of the AFL ladder but were left with several concerns after crushing Carlton by 52 points at a heaving SCG.

The Blues exploded out of the blocks on Friday night to lead 27-1 midway through the opening term.

But it was all pain from that point on as Sydney piled on 14 of the next 16 goals to soar to the 17.15 (117) to 9.11 (65) victory.

The third quarter was particularly brutal as Sydney dominated the centre clearances 7-1 on the way to posting seven goals to two.

The result lifted Sydney two wins clear of second-placed Geelong, and marks the first time since 1945 the club has won nine of its first 10 matches.

Even if third-placed Essendon beat North Melbourne as expected on Sunday, the Swans will still be one and a half wins clear on top.

But the Swans were left with several concerns.

Sydney Swans AFL player Chad Warner holds off Carlton Blues' George Hewett during an AFL game.

Star midfielder Isaac Heeney, who kicked three goals from 24 disposals in another hot display, was left hobbling after injuring his ankle late in the match.

Robbie Fox was subbed out in the third term after appearing to dislocate his right shoulder when he was bowled over by a sliding Jordan Boyd.

And the Swans will also be sweating on what the match review officer makes of Chad Warner's high fend-off that struck Carlton ruckman Marc Pittonet flush in the face with a forearm/elbow.

Warner was a standout with three goals and 28 disposals.

Nic Newman racked up 32 disposals for Carlton, but Sam Walsh (20 possessions) struggled for influence after being tagged by James Jordon.

Star Blues defender Jacob Weitering was subbed out at half-time after struggling through a corked quad he suffered in the opening term.

That's it from the blog tonight

Sydney fans will sleep soundly tonight and can enjoy the rest of this weekend safe in the knowledge that their gap at the top has grown a little bit. The Swans are the real deal, and proved it yet again tonight.

That's it from me tonight! The blog will be back tomorrow as Sir Doug Nicholls Round continues, and I hope you will join us then. Goodnight!

Chad Warner wins the Goodes-O'Loughlin Medal

Chad Warner

No surprises there, despite some other stand outs. Warner was pretty breathtaking tonight, especially when the game was there to be won in the second quarter.

Warner finishes up with 28 disposals, three goals, 14 score involvements and 561 metres gained. And a whole lot of sidesteps.

FT: Sensational Sydney crush Carlton by 52 points

Chad Warner celebrates

How do you stop them? I guess you could ask Richmond, who remarkably are the only team to beat Sydney this year.

But when they are really cooking, and their engine room is playing as well as this, it's hard to see many teams coming close. This was a clinical win, built from a resolute base of team defence and elite pressure and elevated by incredible individuals like Chad Warner and Isaac Heeney.

Carlton might have reached a tipping point with their injury list, and certainly without Jacob Weitering in the second half they looked very light on down back. The Blues looked tired and unable to match the Swans physically, which probably is to be expected.

The Swans are now two games clear on top of the ladder, and by most metrics the best team in the league right now. There is a long way to go before we get to September and the games that really matter but right here, right now, Sydney are the best team in it by some distance.

Into the final minutes of this one

We're into the part of the season where fatigue is starting to hit every team, which explains the fairly pedestrian pace this dead rubber of a last quarter has been played at.

Sydney are a couple of minutes away from a convincing win.

Hayden McLean with the accidental goal! Everything's coming up Sydney

McLean was trying to chip a little pass to Joel Amartey in the goalsquare there, but overhit his kick.

No matter, the ball easily cleared Amartey and his defender and instead trickled through for another goal. Been that sort of night for Carlton.

James Rowbottom won't be denied! Another Sydney goal

Chad Warner broke a couple of tackles and dished off to Rowbottom who broke a couple more. He threw the ball on his boot and watched it tumble end over end and straight through the middle.

Sydney's midfield has had a day out.

George Hewett kicks Carlton's ninth for the night

So the heat is already well and truly out of this one, but the margin is now under 40 points. I reckon we'll see some goals at both ends in this quarter, not unlike last night's bizarre shootout in Darwin.

Better pressure from the Blues inside 50 forced the turnover and Hewett marked the squaring kick directly in front of goal.

Isaac Heeney has three and the Swans hit straight back

Heeney and Warner seem locked in a little battle tonight, with Brownlow votes up for grabs and goals seemingly easy to come by.

Both now have three goals, the latest for Heeney coming from a 40 metre set shot from an angle.

Zac Williams kicks a goal for Carlton

Nick Blakey got a little bit excited and tried to take on the whole Carlton defence with one of his lizardy runs, but Williams wasn't having it.

His tackle was excellent, and the set shot from the resulting free kick just carried the line.

3QT: It's all Sydney as the Swans bust out to a 45-point lead

Chad Warner is tackled

Not the contest we had hoped for, or thought we were getting during the first quarter. Instead Sydney have completely overwhelmed Carlton, who have run out of options and a little bit of fight in that third quarter.

There's just no stopping Chad Warner and Isaac Heeney right now, but every single Swan out there is playing his role to perfection and at 100 per cent intensity at all times. They've suffocated Carlton to breaking point, and now all there is to determine is the final margin.

Sydney will soon be two games clear on top of the ladder, Carlton could soon be out of the top eight.

Matt Kennedy pulls one back for Carlton

Just moments after Charlie Curnow hit the post from a long-range set shot, Kennedy converts from much closer range.

Muted celebrations as the third quarter winds down.

Hayden McLean takes the Sydney lead out to 52 points

Remember Carlton kicked the first four goals of this game. It has been an absolute hammering since about halfway through the first quarter.

So many goals are coming from straight from centre clearance, and the same is true there. Heeney laces out McLean, McLean finishes it off.

Harry Cunningham finishes off another slick Sydney move

End to end in the blink of an eye, Sydney have cut Carlton to ribbons after quarter-time tonight.

Cunningham was the final link in a sumptuous handball chain from half-back, and having run about 100 metres to get the footy he wasn't going to waste his moment. Great goal.

Chad Warner has three! What a performance!

At some point, Michael Voss might want to think about putting a Carlton player somewhere in the vicinity of Chad Warner.

He was just lurking about 15 metres off the pack inside 50, all by himself. Eventually the handball came out to him, and he's just not missing tonight. Sydney running away with it now.

Sam Wicks kicks another Sydney goal! It's an avalanche!

It's a bloodbath in the centre clearances now. The Swans are just walking straight out the front door and raffling off goals.

Adams, Grundy and Wicks combined that time with slick hands. The latter nailed the goal, and half the team got together to celebrate.

Isaac Heeney has two and it's all Sydney now

This is kinda what we feared might happen in this third quarter, as Sydney look just about ready to blow Carlton off the park now.

James Jordon's set up kick was great, but Heeney is just too strong for any Blues defender when he goes forward. He marks and goals from close range.

Chad Warner bursts out of the middle and kicks another!

Pristine Sydney football from the centre clearance! Grundy to Rowbottom, Rowbottom to Warner, Warner to goal.

Amartey got pretty handsy with the Blues defender on the line to usher the ball through, but the umpire was happy enough. Warner was even happier.

Isaac Heeney kicks his first of the night

With Weitering now out of action, that Carlton defence is going to be stretched all night. The Swans did well to bring it to ground, and McDonald's little tap gave Heeney the chance to snap another one through.

Curnow's early goal is quickly cancelled out.

Jacob Weitering has been subbed out

He copped a cork in the first quarter and clearly has been hampered by it, but at half-time the Blues have pulled the trigger on making that sub.

Carlton can't take a trick on the injury front.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .

The CEGE CLASS OF 2023 raised money to help reduce the financial barrier for fellow students taking the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, a cost of $175 per test taker. As a result of this gift, they were able to make the exam more affordable for 15 current CEGE seniors. CEGE students who take the FE exam pass the first time at a rate well above national averages, demonstrating that CEGE does a great job of teaching engineering fundamentals. In 2023, 46 of 50 students passed the challenging exam on the first try.

This winter break, four CEGE students joined 10 other students from the College of Science and Engineering for the global seminar, Design for Life: Water in Tanzania. The students visited numerous sites in Tanzania, collected water source samples, designed rural water systems, and went on safari. PAIGE NOVAK  won Minnesota ASCE’s 2023 Distinguished Engineer of the Year Award for her contributions to society through her engineering achievements and professional experiences.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) announced ten inaugural (NSF) Regional Innovation Engines awards, with a potential $1.6 billion investment nationally over the next decade. Great Lakes ReNEW is led by the Chicago-based water innovation hub,  Current,  and includes a team from the University of Minnesota, including PAIGE NOVAK. Current will receive $15 mil for the first two years, and up to $160 million over ten years to develop and grow a water-focused innovation engine in the Great Lakes region. The project’s ambitious plan is to create a decarbonized circular “blue economy” to leverage the region’s extraordinary water resources to transform the upper Midwest—Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Brewing one pint of beer generates seven pints of wastewater, on average. So what can you do with that wastewater?  PAIGE NOVAK  and her team are exploring the possibilities of capturing pollutants in wastewater and using bacteria to transform them into energy.

BOYA XIONG  has been selected as a recipient of the 2024 40 Under 40 Recognition Program by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. The award was presented at the 2024 AAEES Awards Ceremony, April 11, 2024, at the historic Howard University in Washington, D.C.

JUDY Q. YANG  received a McKnight Land-Grant Professorship Award. This two-year award recognizes promising assistant professors and is intended to advance the careers of individuals who have the potential to make significant contributions to their departments and their scholarly fields.

Professor Emeritus CHARLES FAIRHURST , his son CHARLES EDWARD FAIRHURST , and his daughter MARGARET FAIRHURST DURENBERGER were on campus recently to present Department Head Paige Novak with a check for $25,000 for the Charles Fairhurst Fellowship in Earth Resources Engineering in support of graduate students studying geomechanics. The life of Charles Fairhurst through a discussion with his children is featured on the Engineering and Technology History Wiki at https://ethw.org/Oral-History:Charles_Fairhurst#00:00:14_INTRODUCTION
