Research Assistant

The Department of Psychiatry is seeking Research Assistants who will work on a groundbreaking large-scale national collaborative research project called the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study ( abcdstudy.org ). The ABCD Study is following 12,000 children, aged 9 and 10 at outset, over 10 years (the participants are now ages 15-18). This is the largest long-term study of brain development and child health in the United States. 

In this role, you'll work with the principal investigators and other members of the research team at the University of Michigan to administer study protocols to research participants.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities include conducting follow-up telephone interviews with participants and collateral informants. The role will also conduct follow-up ABCD Study in-person annual appointments. This includes consenting families to participate in the study, administering cognitive batteries, semi-structured clinical interviews, surveys on a variety of topics relevant to adolescent development, collecting biological specimens (hair, saliva, and blood pressure), and administering functional MRI tasks to study participants.

Required Qualifications*

To be considered for this role, you must: 

  • have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • have excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • be able to work proactively and independently. 
  • be comfortable working a diverse set of participants and discussing sensitive topics (e.g. Substance Use) with participants and their families. 
  • have reliable transportation. 

Desired Qualifications*

Other qualities that will prepare you well for this role include: 

  • previous experience administering diagnostic interviews and other neurocognitive test batteries. 
  • previous experience working with children. 

Work Schedule

In this role, you'll work at least 20 hours per week. Opportunities to work more hours may be available. Your specific work schedule may vary depending on study needs, but will include some hours during evenings and weekends.

This work will primarily take place in person at the Rachel Upjohn Building and the Bonisteel Interdisciplinary Research Building.

Research Associate/Research Assistant (Fixed Term) - Menopause MATTERs Study

University of cambridge - department of public health and primary care, the primary care unit.

This role will be coordinating the study for the menopause MATTERs study investigating the impact of menopause and its treatment on healthy women and women with systemic lupus. The successful applicant will have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant specialist subject or have equivalent experience and possess some research experience and/or knowledge of research methods and techniques. As this will be a mixed methods study, both quantitative and qualitative research methods will be required. We can provide training in areas you are unfamiliar with, but experience with data collection and data management is highly desirable. We are a friendly multidisciplinary team and the role-holder will need to be comfortable liaising and working with colleagues of all levels of seniority, and including patients as equal members of the team. There will be additional research tasks for the related ongoing study projects including investigating inequalities in care for different ages, genders and ethnic groups.    

The role-holder will assist in the design and (online) administration of surveys and be responsible for carrying out in-depth interviews with women experiencing menopause, including topics of a sensitive intimate nature.

The applicant will need strong inter-personal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

*Appointment at Research Associate* level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be, awarded appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded (PhD needs to be awarded within 6 months of the start date). If an individual has not submitted a PhD or is not working towards one they could be appointed as a Research Assistant if they have either a degree (and/or Master's) in a relevant area or equivalent experience.

This is a full-time position. We also welcome applications at no less than 0.5 FTE per week. The exact times worked are flexible and the post-holder can work largely from home/remotely if desired with the expectation that they will attend in-person one day per week and the occasional F2F meeting.

Purpose of Position

The Women & Gender Studies Program invites applications for a part-time non-tenure-track instructor to teach online asynchronous courses including WGS 200 Introduction to Gender Studies and/or WGS 225 Introduction to the Study of Women. Up to two courses would be available each semester, or up to four over the academic year. The WGS program is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences and helps fulfill the university’s Essential Studies (general education) mission. These two courses are taught from a humanities perspective and focus on Essential Studies goals including helping students foster Intercultural Knowledge and Skills and the ability to Analyze Diverse Worldviews.

Duties & Responsibilities

The part-time instructor will be responsible for the planning, development, and presentation of classroom instruction, student and course assessment, and related activities including timely communication. Course design will be done in consultation with other program staff and congruent with other WGS 200 and WGS 225 class sections. This position is contingent upon adequate enrollment and availability of funding.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Women & Gender Studies or related humanities-based field such as History, English, Ethnic Studies, Philosophy, Religious Studies, World Languages, or others
  • Academic background in WGS as evidenced by coursework, scholarship, and/or teaching
  • Two years of experience teaching undergraduate courses
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching online courses
