The best writing prompts for Christmas

"All I Want For Christmas Is You"? Trite. "Jingle Bells"? Boring. Miracle on 34th Street? Overplayed. "Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town"? Pass!

Instead of turning to the same old holiday traditions, why not embrace the Christmas spirit by writing about it this year? From reindeer soaring in the sky to sleighs gliding on the snow, writing prompts are a fun way to celebrate the holiday season that can help invigorate the memories of students and get kids to come up with all sorts of creative ideas about everything holiday-flavored. And sharing the stories around a Christmas tree is one of those family activities that you just can’t beat.

If you’re looking to cut to the festive chase, here are ten top Christmas writing prompts:

  • Every year around Christmas, Satan accidentally gets thousands of letters from children writing to Santa. This year, however, he gets a letter that makes him sit up and take notice.
  • Start your story with one character making a vow they would never have made the year before.
  • The turkey is on the floor. Stuffing is stuck to the ceiling. The tree has been toppled over. The presents have been singed. What happened to cause this chaotic Christmas scene?
  • Write about a character who won’t (or can’t) shop for the holidays.
  • Write about a character who’s stuck in a shopping mall.
  • Write about Christmas Day from Rudolph's perspective.
  • Write about light returning to a place deprived of it for a long time, literally or figuratively.
  • "Excuse me," someone says to you, tapping you on the shoulder. "Are these your antlers? You dropped them."
  • You are Santa Claus, and you're running late for work because you're stuck in the middle of a traffic jam caused by a Justice for Reindeer protest.

What should i make my christmas story about.

First, think about what excites you most about the holiday season. Are you all about the food, like cookies or hot chocolate? Or do you love the aesthetics of decorations and nature in winter? Christmas movies and songs also provide great inspiration.

Themes like family togetherness, the magic of Christmas, and spreading holiday cheer never get old either. Or you can put a spin on classics like A Christmas Carol or The Nutcracker. Our list of Christmas story ideas also has fun options too like holiday mishaps, friendly competitions, and overcoming hardships.

Christmas stories shine the brightest when the tone and characters come from the heart. If a particular idea on the list sparks joy or nostalgia, run with it! Rather than worrying about originality, focus on developing characters and plots that move you.

Of course, not all Christmas tales need to be cosy and cheerful either. A humorous, mischievous or even sinister take can also be refreshing. Ultimately, your interests and passion should drive the story. So dream up something that excites you personally – that’s what Christmas spirit is all about!

What makes a great Christmas story?

When it comes to Christmas tales, the most memorable ones have an element of magic, wonder, and feeling that truly captures the holiday spirit. The best Christmas stories include:

  • Captivating characters. Well-developed, interesting characters that readers can relate to and root for make any story more engaging. Give your characters personality quirks, backstories, motivations, and flaws.
  • Evocative descriptions. Set the festive scene with rich details about surroundings, food, decorations, weather and Christmas traditions. Help readers feel immersed in the yuletide atmosphere.
  • An intriguing plot. Have a creative, fun storyline with some conflict to resolve. This could be overcoming a holiday mishap, solving a seasonal mystery, or spreading Christmas cheer.
  • Heartwarming themes. Focus on beloved Christmas motifs like the value of family and friends, generosity of spirit, finding magic in everyday moments or faith in human kindness .
  • Moments of wonder and joy. Sprinkle in Christmas miracles big and small, whether it’s a special gift, a prayer answered, a romantic moment under mistletoe, or a visit from Santa.
  • A powerful ending. Close your story with a resounding message about the meaning of Christmas, leaving readers moved and filled with the holiday spirit!

How do you write a short story for Christmas?

Writing a short story for the holiday season has its own special considerations. First, establish why Christmas matters in your tale. Much can happen in a few pages when embracing the Christmas spirit theme. Drive the characters, plot, motivations and outcomes from a place of holiday significance.

When structuring your Christmas short story, plan it even more concisely than your average short fiction piece. Introduce vital backstory during festive scenes like Christmas tree trimming or holiday bakery visits. Unfold the main conflict quickly and resolve it sharply for maximum impact.

For detailed tips, refer to our guide on how to write a Christmas story in 16 steps . But when adapting that framework for a Christmas tale, focus sharply on Yuletide elements the entire way through for resonance. Getting swept up in Christmas magic for even a short time can inspire wonderful storytelling. So make the most of your limited space by pouring genuine holiday spirit into every paragraph!

What is a great story about Christmas?

The most heartwarming and impactful Christmas stories capture the intangible magic, wonder, and generosity of spirit that make the holiday so special. Classics like “A Christmas Carol”, “The Gift of the Magi”, and “The Little Match Girl” focused on holiday themes that still resonate today.

Great contemporary Christmas stories do the same through plot, character, and carefully crafted yuletide details. For example, hits like “The Polar Express” and “Elf” immerse readers in the childhood joy and belief around Christmas. Uplifting films like “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Miracle on 34th Street” highlight the goodness in human nature with holiday flair.

Whether focused on mishaps, adventures, miracles or family, great Christmas stories reflect themes of hope, kindheartedness and the power of faith during the season. Through gleaming characters, clever plots and Christmas spirit, they allow us to reconnect with the magic of the holiday that can so easily get lost in the stresses of adulthood. So a great Christmas story should reawaken your inner child!

Tips for Writing Christmas Stories

Now that you have a list of Christmas story ideas to choose from, here are some tips to help you bring your story to life:

  • Start with a strong hook to grab the reader’s attention. This could be a mysterious letter found under a Christmas tree, or a sudden, unexplained power outage on Christmas Eve. Your opening should immediately immerse the reader in the story’s world and set the tone for what’s to come.
  • Create memorable characters that readers can relate to. These could be characters facing relatable challenges, like a single parent struggling to create the perfect Christmas, or a child experiencing their first holiday after a significant loss. Give each character distinct traits and motivations to make them feel real.
  • Set the scene by describing the sights, sounds, and smells of Christmas. This involves painting a vivid picture of twinkling lights, the aroma of cinnamon and pine, and the soft sound of carols in the distance. Use sensory details to transport your readers directly into the world of your story.
  • Use dialogue to bring your characters to life and convey emotions. Dialogue can reveal a lot about your characters, like their personality, background, and current mood. An excited child’s chatter about Santa, or a couple’s tender conversation about past Christmases, can add depth to your story.
  • Build tension and suspense to keep readers engaged . This might involve a series of mysterious events leading up to Christmas or a family secret that’s revealed during the holiday dinner. Keep your readers guessing what will happen next.
  • Weave in themes of love, hope, and generosity. Christmas stories often revolve around these themes. Show characters performing acts of kindness, like a businessperson helping a homeless person, or a child learning the importance of giving.
  • Show the transformation and growth of your main character. This is key in Christmas stories. Maybe a cynical character learns the joy of giving, or a lonely individual finds a sense of belonging. Show how the magic of Christmas brings about change in your characters.
  • Add unexpected twists and turns to keep readers guessing. Perhaps a character who hates Christmas ends up saving the day, or a planned holiday goes completely awry, leading to unexpected joy.
  • End on a satisfying note that leaves readers feeling warm and joyful. This doesn’t always mean a happy ending in the traditional sense, but your story should resolve in a way that aligns with the spirit of Christmas, leaving your readers with a sense of closure and contentment.

25 Christmas Writing Prompts For Holiday Inspiration

25 Christmas Writing Prompts for holiday inspiration! #fiction #ideas #idea starters #stories #romance

One of my readers requested this post! I was happy to do it, because winter and the holidays bring great inspiration to me. These could be used for fiction, journaling, or just about any other creative writing. And I’m keeping them G-rated in case any teachers want to use them for their students! (And if you are a teacher, check out my 50 Story Ideas for Kids , too!)

But these prompts work just as well for adults. If you’ve had a busy autumn or a tumultuous year, but you have a Christmas break, that’s a great time to get back into a writing habit again. Although these are fiction prompts, some of them could be adapted to autobiographical prompts for essays, journaling, or memoir writing as well.

Thank you so much for this ! 😀

You’re so welcome, Olivia! Thank you for the great suggestion!

I’m almost finished with my holiday writing project for this year but I’m going to take this list and use it for something for next year. I think it would be great fun to incorporate three…or six of these into a story, maybe more!

Hi, Anne! Congratulations on being almost done with your holiday project. And I hope there are useful for the next one!

#4 worked for me well. I took the about a Christmas card arriving 50 years after it was sent and made a 2500 word short story that was printed in TJ Hannon second short story collection Tales With a Twist 2. An emotional tale about an American soldier stationed in Viet Nam, who never made it home. Thanks for the prompt. These things usually don’t work for me, but this one did

Tom, that’s so cool…I’m so glad it worked out for you!

These Christmas prompts are great fun, Bryn. Thanks. I’m sharing some with my writing class tomorrow. 🙂

Aww, I am flattered! Thank you!

These Christmas prompts would make a great prompt advent-calendar for a writer friend – next year …

Hi, there! Oh my gosh, a writing prompt advent calendar…that’s an amazing idea. 🙂

Thank you, I once upon a time did that for said friend … But I had to choose small prompts as I glued 24 tiny envelopes with those prompts on a sheet of cardboard. It was received with great joy!

' src=

Thanks for the holiday writing prompts, Bryn. I’ve shared your post on my blog for Write it Wednesday .

Aw, thank you, friend! Thanks for sharing!

' src=

These are so fun! You always have the best prompts.

Aww thank you. 🙂 Hey, I can’t wait to see you!

Thank you so much for these, Bryn!! They got me into the Christmas spirit (a bit), despite the fact that my 7-month old puppy died yesterday. Speaking of disheartening things, could you please make a list of writing prompts about potentially upsetting/unwanted things? I would especially be very grateful if you could throw in a few fantasy/mythology because that is my genre and I really love your creative prompts!! Merry Christmas, Alyssa

Oh Alyssa! I am so sorry about your puppy! I know how much pets mean, and that’s so sad. I wish I could give you a hug. Take really good care of yourself, okay?

That is a great idea for a list. I’ll do it! Honestly, we’ve had a few upsetting things happen to us recently, so I’ll be inspired. 😀 But yes, I’ll try to remember to include some fantasy ones. Thank you for the suggestion!

12 creative writing prompts for Christmas

Woman hand holding pen on notepad at home on winter holidays xmas.

With snow-covered settings and family reunions, winter makes the perfect backdrop for many story writers. Let the merriment of Christmas seep into your tales, or perhaps explore a sinister side to these dark, wintery days.

These Christmas writing ideas fit perfectly with this dynamic season and are sure to add a festive spark to your writing journal .

It’s Christmas Eve and you can’t sleep. You decide to go downstairs for a glass of water. You walk into your living room just in time to find a pair of feet coming down from your chimney and landing in your fireplace.

There are a number of ways you can go with this prompt. While the above image may be a child’s dream, it could also be an adult’s nightmare. A classic start to what is sure to be an intriguing tale.

You are stuck in the world of a Christmas song. You must write a suspenseful story based on the words and concepts.

Love them or hate them, the same Christmas songs resurface each year without fail. Use these festive jingles as writing inspiration for your next Christmas story idea. Pick your favourite (or most hated) and embed it into your own fictional world.

It’s just a few minutes until Christmas Day. You forgot to leave cookies and milk out as an offering for Santa Claus. He’s not going to be happy, and it terrifies you.

cookies and milk for santa claus, christmas concept, seasonal celebration, new year eve, xmas evening, festive family tradition.

Again, the direction your story takes following this prompt depends largely on your main character. ‘Offering’ suggests something peculiar, but could this just be an innocent, misguided fear? How jolly Santa turns out to be is entirely up to you.

You wake up as Santa Claus on the afternoon of Christmas Eve. The sleigh is set, the presents are wrapped, and the elves are singing around the tree. Rudolph stands over you with his nose glowing bright, and asks if it’s time to take flight.

Take on the role of Santa Claus himself in this next Christmas creative writing idea. Will the day go off without a hitch, or will you encounter some festive mishaps along the way? Play around those other mentioned Christmas characters too, for a rich and varied story.

It’s Christmas Eve on one of the coldest winters of the century. You have 24 hours to think of something to do to get you high enough on the Naughty List to get enough coal to keep your small village warm.

This short Christmas writing prompt has so many layers already, pushing the idea of what it means to be ‘nice’ for Christmas. The harsh wintery scenes will no doubt be a joy to write while thinking up various naughty acts will bring you hours of fun.

You have been invited to a Christmas party by an old friend.

This idea has been purposely left short to allow your creative mind to wander where it wishes. Is your character happy to receive the invitation? Or perhaps the note brings up feelings they would have rather left buried…

You get woken up in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve by a loud voice: “Help! I’m stuck in the chimney!”

A touch of comedy with this next Christmas writing idea. A rescue mission for Santa Claus himself, or will you be forced to help an incompetent festive intruder? A chance to experiment with your humour writing, whatever tone that takes.

One Christmas day, you wake up to find a bunch of mistletoe floating above your head. You feel as though it’s trying to lead you somewhere.

Mistletoe bunch with red bow on blurred background, space for text. Traditional Christmas decor

A Christmas mystery that could lead your character on a tale of love, heartbreak, or something else entirely. Choose to centre your story in the real world, or allow the supernatural element to take you into the fantasy realm.

While everyone else was getting Christmas presents, all you got was a card containing a name and a phone number.

So much for the wish list! This Christmas writing idea is thick with mystery and anticipation and has the freedom to move into a number of genres or styles. The age of your character will greatly affect their response, too.

You’re in a little coastal town pub on Christmas Eve. “What a night,” you say out loud to your drink. A salty old sea captain comes out of the darkness to tell the tale of his Night Before Christmas on the sea…

Coastal writing is always so much fun – throw in a Christmas twist, and you’ve got yourself a truly enjoyable festive tale just waiting to be penned . This dark and stormy writing prompt is the ultimate creative spark.

The Grinch is trying to steal Christmas, but things start to go wrong when he chooses to start with Kevin McCallister’s home.

A shout-out to two of the best Christmas films of all time, and plenty of opportunities to create a Christmas story idea that is already rich in character and contextual detail. The overlapping of these two worlds will be something to wrack your brain around but is sure to be a story your whole family will want to read.

A young child wished that it could be Christmas every day, and now it is – for every single person on Earth.

It’s Groundhog Day, the festive edition, for this final Christmas story writing prompt. How long will it take for society to tire of those ringing sleigh bells? Are there enough Christmas crackers to pull, day after day? And finally (perhaps most importantly), does Santa Claus have enough presents to go around?

Christmas Journal Prompts for Adults and Writing Ideas

These Christmas journal prompts are meant to get you thinking about the deeper things surrounding Christmas.

Let’s be real: Christmas is meant to be “the most wonderful time of the year,” but that experience isn’t always true for everyone.

Not everyone has supportive family members, and some of us even dread Christmas, knowing it means we have to interact with a toxic family. There’s nothing worse than the hope of connecting with family, only to be let down by their behavior.

Whether you are trying to heal from trauma that made your childhood Christmases a struggle, or all the food is a trigger for your body image and self-acceptance , there can be a lot to unpack.

So these Christmas writing prompts for adults will cover it all: the good, the not-so-good, and everything in between.

Christmas Journaling Themes

Want some guidance for what to think about as you go through these Christmas journal prompts for adults? Here are some important themes that give Christmas its meaning:

25 Christmas Writing Prompts

The holiday season means different things to different people, but for many of us Christmas is a time to celebrate with family.

We’ve got many different Christmas traditions, and of course there is the giving of gifts that is always a highlight.

Unsurprisingly, Christmas is especially exciting for children, and it can be a great topic to get even reluctant writers to start expressing themselves.

Today we’ve got 25 Christmas themed writing prompts to help them explore what this holiday means to them, what is most important, and think about the various traditions involved in this time of year. And if that isn’t enough, try our writing prompts about winter and see how those go!

How to use these writing prompts:

As with any prompts, there are no rules set in stone here – and in fact you can use these with your students in many ways.

Try selecting one prompt that you’d like to explore as a class, and use it as a discussion point to get everyone engaged and thinking about all the possible view points being put forward.

Then have them go away and write up their version of what it means to them.

Alternatively, give each child their own prompt, and have them write up their own thoughts on the topic.

You might like to have them rejoin as a group (either a full class, or smaller groups) to share their prompt and written answer with the group.

This can also be a great way to get the class discussing a lot of different viewpoints, and help them build understanding that people have different believes and traditions around the holiday season.

The Prompts:

  • When was the most excited you’ve been for Christmas morning? Why was that?
  • How do you feel when someone clearly loves what you gave them as a present?
  • What is something which families can do to make Christmas extra special?
  • Is the most expensive Christmas present always the best? Why is that?
  • What is your favorite Christmas movie, and why?
  • Do you think you should spend Christmas time with your family or your friends? Why is that?
  • Why does it feel so special when someone gives you a gift that they somehow knew you’d love?
  • Is Christmas a happy time for everybody? How can we help make sure that it is?
  • Does getting a wonderful present make you feel grateful? Or do you just expect it? Why is that?
  • It is common around the World for families to leave food and drink out for Santa Claus. Why is this?
  • Some countries have a snowy winter Christmas, and others have a summer holiday Christmas. Which would you prefer?
  • What was your favorite Christmas surprise you ever had? Why was that?
  • If you ever have your own kids, what sort of presents would you want to give them? Why?
  • Do any astronauts living on the space station celebrate Christmas? What would that look like?
  • Do you ever do something special for your pets on Christmas? What do you do, and why?
  • If you were Santa, how would you make Christmas extra special for kids around the World?
  • What would you like most for Christmas? A new bike or a new video game? Why?
  • What feeling do you associate with Christmas time? Why is that?
  • When was your best Christmas from when you were younger? Why was that?
  • What was a gift that you got for someone in your family that they absolutely loved?
  • How do you countdown to Christmas? Does it make it feel extra exciting? How?
  • If you had to pick out a Christmas tree, would you choose a freshly cut real tree or an ornate plastic tree? Why?
  • What is your favorite food or drink that you have around Christmas time? Why?
  • Why are most Christmas movies comedies?
  • How can you help make Christmas extra special for those around you?

Have a very merry writing session!

We really hope you and your students enjoy our resources, and that we’ve helped inspire many a productive writing day as a result.

Please do keep letting us know how you’re making use of our writing prompts and other teaching resources – we love to hear from our community 🙂

Stay tuned for more prompts and other free printables (and as usual, if you have a particular type of tool or resource that you’d like us to make available here for you, just let us know!)

Christmas writing prompts are a great way to keep kids writing during the Christmas season. Teaching can be difficult during the month of December because kids are so excited about Christmas. Instead of fighting against the excitement this time of year, let’s use it to our advantage with Christmas-themed lessons.

Writing prompts are not busy work. They are a chance for students to practice multiple types of writing. Some of the types of writing explored in these Christmas prompts are:

  • Descriptive

Working on writing skills during the holiday season doesn’t need to be complicated. There are a few fun ideas to get kids writing. These writing prompts can be added to your December lesson plans or used as a way to keep kids writing over winter break.

  • Christmas journal prompts
  • Writing center
  • Writing workshop story starters (This is so much fun, especially if you go add in a festive drink to get into the holiday spirit.)

You can assign specific Christmas prompts to certain days or let kids choose to write about the ones that they find interesting. You can also cut the writing prompt printable into strips and let kids choose one from a bag or bowl each day.

Christmas writing prompts can be the perfect addition to your Christmas homeschool lesson plans.

7 prompts to try on Microsoft Copilot this weekend

From a vacation to festival posters

Microsoft Copilot app running on a phone with Microsoft logo in background

Microsoft Copilot is quickly becoming one of the most popular AI chatbots, in part because it offers much of the functionality of ChatGPT Plus for free , but also because its built into every Microsoft product.

Artificial intelligence tools like Copilot can be incredibly powerful, or they can be yet another blank canvas to stare at for hours not knowing where to start. That is the point of Prompt_Jitsu, a series of prompt ideas to get you started.

I'm a big fan of Microsoft Copilot, it builds on the core models found in ChatGPT but with a more consumer-friendly interface and control over the creativity of the output.

Fun prompts for Microsoft Copilot

I’ve tried to create a mixed set of prompts that can be adapted to fit your own needs. For example one prompt is to create a flyer for a fictional music festival you could adapt for anything from a bake sale to a kids birthday party .

1. Planning a vacation

Copilot

We're going to kick things off with some light vacation planning. I've got a busy year ahead and don't see a trip on the horizon, so this is more window shopping — but it is a good chance to see how tools like Copilot can help with inspiration.

For day one it suggested I spend it in Tokyo, suggested Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku and dina at Izakaya that evening. The total trip included visits to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Horishima and Mount Fuji. I'm exhausted already!

The prompt: “Create a 7-day itinerary for a dream vacation in Japan, including must-visit destinations, unique experiences, and local culinary delights. Offer suggestions for accommodations and transportation options to make the trip planning process easier.”

Sign up to get the BEST of Tom’s Guide direct to your inbox.

Upgrade your life with a daily dose of the biggest tech news, lifestyle hacks and our curated analysis. Be the first to know about cutting-edge gadgets and the hottest deals.

Remember with AI chatbots you don't have to just rely on a single prompt. You can follow up with requests such as, lets keep it all in Tokyo for the full seven days, now refine the itinerary, or suggest alternative hotels. You can adapt this prompt with the country of your choice, or even make it a city break.

2. Writing a love song

Some weeks with Prompt_Jitsu I'll try to create a theme, this week the theme is cool things to try in Copilot, with no particular link. Although maybe you could use this prompt to create a love song to sing to someone you met in Japan.

The prompt: “Compose a heartfelt love song that captures the essence of a long-distance relationship. Include lyrics that express the challenges, yearning, and unwavering commitment of two people separated by distance but united by their love.”

This prompt will give you a set of lyrics for a love song if Suno is disabled in the plugins menu. If you have Suno enabled it will create a full song with vocals.

In my cases included the following line in the chorus: "Cause you're the sound of my heart, the beat in my chest. Every time you're near, I can't catch my breath."

3. Promotional poster

Microsoft Copilot Designer

You've got your song, now you need somewhere to perform the track. This next prompt will use Designer, the DALL-E powered image generator in Copilot to generate a poster for a fictional music festival.

The prompt: “Design a series of eye-catching promotional posters for a fictional music festival featuring an eclectic mix of genres and artists. Include elements that reflect the festival's theme, location, and overall vibe, and create designs that would appeal to a wide audience.”

You can adapt the prompt to reflect a real world scenario or event. Adjust the prompt to replace fictional music festival with something like "flyer for ten year old's birthday party" or even "garage sale". You can also edit the image in Designer to change the resolution or adjust any individual feature.

4. Creating a business plan

Microsoft Copilot Designer

You've been to Japan, written a killer love song and created a poster for a fake music festival. Why not now develop a business plan for a clothing line to sell at the fake music festival? Lets make it eco-friendly.

The prompt: “Develop a detailed business plan for a sustainable, eco-friendly clothing line that uses innovative materials and production methods. Include information on target market, product offerings, pricing strategy, marketing approach, and financial projections.”

In my case it offered up a target market description, product offerings, pricing strategy and financial projections. It was just an overview but you can use follow up prompts. It suggests some such as "what are some innovative materials I can use?" and "How do I find ethical manufacturers for my clothing line?".

I also asked Copilot to create an image of one of the products we might sell.

5. Mental health awareness

We've travelled the world, expressed our undying love through song, designed a poster for a music festival and made a business plan to sell eco-friendly clothing. Now its time to put something back into society with a speech.

The prompt: “Write a persuasive speech advocating for the importance of mental health awareness and support in the workplace. Include statistics, personal anecdotes, and practical strategies for creating a more supportive and inclusive work environment.”

In the first response it gave me a rough outline and structure, including bullet points and links for quotes and statistics — so I had to follow up with a request for the full speech.

You can follow up with prompts like "make it funnier, or add some examples using quotes from the web or famous people.". You could even put the speech into a tool like ElevenLabs and have AI read it for you. In the example I used my own voice clone.

6. Social media posts

Microsoft Copilot Designer images of pets

No business can succeed without social media promotion. This next prompt will generate a series of prompts to promote a pet grooming business, and not just normal promo posts but tips, images and more.

The prompt: “Generate a series of fun and engaging social media posts for a pet grooming business, including tips for pet owners, behind-the-scenes glimpses of the grooming process, and adorable images of freshly groomed pets.”

It gave me five posts and even generated images to use in the posts requiring pictures. It suggested starting with tips for shiny fur, followed by a behind the scenes on a grooming session and at the end a meet the team.

7. Designing a garden

Microsoft Copilot Designer

After all that hard work why not design your dream garden, or at least use Copilot to give you a step-by-step guide to laying a raised garden bed.

The prompt: “Create a step-by-step guide for building a raised garden bed, including materials needed, tools required, and detailed instructions for each stage of the process. Offer tips for selecting the right location, choosing plants, and maintaining the garden over time.”

It effectively gave me a recipe with materials, tools and instructions. It also suggests location ideas, ideal plants and advice on maintaining the garden.

You could follow the prompt with specific requests around style, seasonality or even replace raised bed with herb garden or rockery.

Ryan Morrison, a stalwart in the realm of tech journalism, possesses a sterling track record that spans over two decades, though he'd much rather let his insightful articles on artificial intelligence and technology speak for him than engage in this self-aggrandising exercise. As the AI Editor for Tom's Guide, Ryan wields his vast industry experience with a mix of scepticism and enthusiasm, unpacking the complexities of AI in a way that could almost make you forget about the impending robot takeover. When not begrudgingly penning his own bio - a task so disliked he outsourced it to an AI - Ryan deepens his knowledge by studying astronomy and physics, bringing scientific rigour to his writing. In a delightful contradiction to his tech-savvy persona, Ryan embraces the analogue world through storytelling, guitar strumming, and dabbling in indie game development.
