How to complete the Seluvis quest in Elden Ring

His quest ties in with several other NPCs, but it's easy to miss.

Elden Ring Seluvis

Starting location

Seluvis's potion, puppet cellar, amber starlight, amber draught.

I completely missed Seluvis's quest in Elden Ring on my first playthrough. So if you don't want to miss it, too, or you've jumped into NG+ to mop up any quests you missed the first time around, this guide will put you on the right path.

Unless you made a beeline straight to the end, it's likely you've met Seluvis during other NPC quests. It's not obvious that he has his own story arc, though, and you have to do some very specific things to get started. Plus Seluvis is a bit of an ass, so it's certainly understandable if you don't want to help him out. But if you do want to find out more about him, here's how to complete the Elden Ring Seluvis quest.

Elden Ring Seluvis quest summary

Here's a summary of the steps for Seluvis's quest.

Note that you won't be able to complete Seluvis's quest if you progress Ranni's quest to the point where you give her the Fingerslayer Blade. You also won't be able to complete Ranni's quest without first using a Celestial Dew at the Church of Vows if you follow the last step.

  • Start Ranni's quest and meet Seluvis at his Rise
  • Agree to give the potion to Nepheli (your choice)
  • Locate the hidden puppet cellar
  • Buy all sorceries and both puppets from Seluvis
  • Find the Amber Starlight item
  • Give the Amber Draught to Ranni

Where to find Seluvis

Seluvis has his own tower in the Three Sisters area behind Caria Manor in Liurnia, but it will remain sealed until you enter Ranni's service and start her questline.

After speaking to Ranni and agreeing to help her, she'll ask you to speak with her advisors on the ground floor of her tower. You can find a projection of Seluvis near the entrance and he'll suggest you pay him a visit in his tower. For this step, you need to speak to all three advisers—Seluvis, Blaidd , and Ijl—and speak to Ranni once more to leave the tower. Seluvis's Tower is to the southwest of Ranni's so head here now and you'll find Seluvis inside.

Accept Seluvis's potion and make a choice

Talk to Seluvis and he'll ask you to help him administer a potion to Nepheli . Accept his task and he'll hand over the potion. Now it's up to you what you do with it, but you'll have to do one of three things to progress further:

The biggest gaming news, reviews and hardware deals

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

  • Give the potion to Nepheli when she returns to Roundtable Hold after meeting her at the Village of the Albinaurics.
  • Give the potion to Dung Eater at the end of his questline instead of using the five Seedbed Curses.
  • Hand over the potion to Gideon at Roundtable Hold.

Choosing either of the first two options will allow you to get the summonable Spirit Ashes of whomever you give it to. Handing over the potion to Gideon will have him destroy it. It doesn't matter which option you pick, but you have to do one of these things to continue Seluvis's quest.

Locating the puppet cellar

After dispensing the potion however you see fit, head back to the Three Sisters and locate the ruins between Ranni's Rise and Renna's Rise over to the east. There's a hidden stairway here and rolling will break the illusory floor. Head inside and you'll find a glowing message on the floor near the back wall. Read the message then have a look around if you like, before returning to Seluvis's Rise.

Now when you speak to Seluvis he'll assume you've done what he asked and offer to sell you sorceries. You'll also get an option to ask about the chambers you found, which will unlock his Puppet Spirit Ashes. As soon as you buy one, the option will disappear until you reload the area.

It seems you need to buy both puppets and all of his sorceries to progress to the next step. Once you do this, he will let you in on his scheme and asks you to find the Amber Starlight item.

Where to find the Amber Starlight

There's only one clue to the whereabouts of the Amber Starlight item and that's a map that can be purchased from Pidia, the Carian servant. This map isn't required to find the shard so skip ahead if you just want to go straight there.

Otherwise, from Seluvis's Rise, head northeast along the cliff edge until you reach a spot where you can drop down onto Caria Manor, then head to the southwest edge of the building and drop down to the small wooden platform below. Keep dropping down until you reach the ramparts, and you'll see a square opening in the roof of the building. Hop across and go down the ladder to find Pidia.

If you'd rather go straight to the item, head to Altus Plateau and the Altus Highway Junction Site of Grace. From here, head east and look for the narrow ravine that passes just this side of the Stormcaller Church. Go through the short tunnel and you can find this item on the ground in front of a statue.

Once you have it, return to Seluvis at the Three Sisters and hand over the Amber Starlight and you'll receive the Magic Scorpion Charm talisman .

Give the Amber Draught to Ranni

A word of warning: This step will prevent you from continuing with Ranni's quest unless you absolve your sins at the Church of Vows with a Celestial Dew. Even then, the only way I was able to continue was by going directly to the Radahn boss fight and skipping the Sorceress Sellen quest step.

You'll need to reload the area and return to talk to Seluvis again. He'll hand over the Amberlight Draught and ask you to give it to Ranni. Fast travel to Ranni's Rise and choose to administer the potion. Understandably, Ranni will be pretty angry with you: if given the chance, she will kill you. If you return to her room, you'll find she's gone.

Head back to Seluvis's Rise for the final time and you'll find his Bell Bearing and the Preceptor Set. Additionally, returning to Pidia's location lets you loot Nepheli's Puppet Ashes (if you gave her the potion) or the Delores Puppet Ashes if you didn't.

accept seluvis task

How to complete Seluvis's questline in Elden Ring

The preceptor is trying to trick you, but here's what you can do about it.

Preceptor Seluvis is a character in Elden Ring that you meet for the first time in the Three Sisters sub-region of Liurnia of the Lakes.

He has his own tower there, which is initially locked. It only opens during the course of Ranni's quest and you can talk to the wizard there in private. His questline has some special features, so follow our step-by-step guide to complete Seluvis's mission.

Where to find Seluvis

You must first follow Ranni's quest to the point where you have spoken to the spirit form of Seluvis in Ranni's Rise . He will then invite you into his own tower.

An overhead map image with a tower marked in a red circle from Elden Ring

(To continue, you need to talk to all the ghost NPCs in Ranni's Rise - Blaidd (if present), Seluvis, Iji - and then again to Ranni herself. The barrier in front of the door will then disappear).

Go to Seluvis's Rise in the southern part of the area and accept his task, whereupon he will give you Seluvis's potion and ask you to hand it to Nepheli Loux.

A warrior with a large sword talks to a masked wizard with a blue hat in Elden Ring

However, you have several options as to who you can actually give this potion to in order to progress Seluvis's quest:

  • Hand the potion to Nepheli Loux : Only when she is in the basement of the Roundtable Hold (see Nepheli Loux's quest ).
  • Hand the potion to Gideon : Only when he is standing in his office and you have talked about Nepheli.
  • Hand the potion to Dung Eater : Only when you have to give the Seedbed Curses to his body (see Dung Eater's quest ).

Option 1: Give the potion to Nepheli Loux

For this option, you must first meet the warrior Nepheli Loux in Stormveil Castle, then defeat Godrick (with or without her help) and finally talk to her at the Village of the Albinaurics in Liurnia.

She will then move to the cellar of the Roundtable Hold , where she will accept the potion. If you don't have this option, you'll need to talk to Sir Gideon Ofnir again beforehand and select the corresponding dialogue option.

Important : If you decide to give Seluvis's potion to Nepheli Loux as requested, her quest will end at this point and you will miss out on an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, among other things.

If you go ahead with this option, though, you will then find Nepheli in Seluvis's hidden doll's house, behind what appears to be a wall, and right next to Sellen's body (see Sellen's quest ).

Her ashes or doll can then be found next to Pidia's corpse after Seluvis is dead. Pidia is the hidden merchant in Caria Manor , and is also accessible via the Three Sisters area.

Option 2: Give the potion to Gideon

Nepheli's adoptive father Gideon will also accept the potion after he has gone to his study, where he spends his days researching.

Talk to him about Nepheli and you should be given the option to show him the potion as soon as Nepheli is in the basement of the Roundtable Hold.

Gideon disposes of the potion and Seluvis assumes that you have completed his mission as requested.

Option 3: Give the potion to the Dung Eater

Dung Eater is one of the least likeable NPCs in Elden Ring. He appears in the Roundtable Hold as soon as you enter the Altus Plateau.

You'll have to follow his quest for a while until you find five Seedbed Curses and pass them on to his body. At this point, you will have the opportunity to give him the potion. Doing this lets you obtain the Dung Eater Puppet, but locks you out of getting one of the alternate Elden Ring endings , so you'll need to choose what's more important to you.

Buy Seluvis's offer

Ultimately, it doesn't matter too much who receives the potion. When you return to Seluvis empty-handed, he will assume that you have fulfilled his request and made Nepheli "happy" with the potion.

You can then buy spells from him. Get all four spells and look for his secret doll's cellar north-east of Ranni's Rise. You'll need to roll across the floor at the spot in the ruins or hit it to discover a staircase.

An overhead map screen showing the location of a secret cellar door marked with a red circle in Elden Ring

Go into the basement, examine Seluvis's note to the right of the apparent wall, return to him and select the dialogue option about his chambers. He will offer you a doll from his inventory. Select one and use it once. Now you need to find a Starlight Shard and buy another doll.

Note: If the quest doesn't continue, try buying his entire inventory. A new dialogue option should then appear.

Find the Amber Starlight shard

Finally, he wants to make a potion that turns even a demigod into a doll. To do this, you need to find a Starlight Amber shard . It can be found on the Altus Plateau at this location:

An overhead map screen showing the location of the Starlight Amber shard in Elden Ring, marked with a yellow arrow and circle.

East of the Site of Grace " Altus Highway Junction ", you can walk through a subway and find the Starlight Amber in front of a structure that looks like an altar.

Complete Seluvis's quest and betray Ranni

Travel back to Seluvis's Rise and hand over the Starlight Amber you found. In return, Seluvis will give you the Magical Scorpion Charm .

Important : At this point you can finish the quest and don't run the risk of messing up Ranni's quest. If you continue and betray the witch, she will turn against you.

If you wish to betray Ranni, you can reload the area, and Seluvis should then give you the Amber Draught . Give it to Ranni (this only works when she is sleeping in her tower upstairs).

The witch is not very impressed by the potion and its effects. You can speak to her several times, but if you do this too often, she will kill you on the spot.

A warrior stands in a stone chamber in Elden Ring, in front of a deceased Seluvis

Seluvis will also be dead after you return to his tower. You will find his equipment by the corpse: Seluvis's Bell Bearing and the Preceptor's Set . That's it for Seluvis and his quest.

Ranni has also disappeared from her tower afterwards, but you can at least try to undo your misdeeds with the help of Absolution and Celestial Dew. Either way, Seluvis's quest is now complete.

Elden Ring: How To Complete Seluvis' Questline

Another long quest with a magical NPC. Let's check all the details in this guide.

Quick Links

Beginning seluvis’ questline, go to seluvis’ rise, giving nepheli loux the potion, give the potion to sir gideon, returning to seluvis and the secret room, seluvis’ scheme and the amber starlight, gain the magic scorpion charm, betraying ranni the witch.

Some questlines in Elden Ring span the entirety of your journey through the Lands Between, taking you to the farthest reaches of the map, and putting you face-to-face with the game’s most powerful bosses. Others, however, are more intimate affairs, allowing you to better understand the characters of this world.

RELATED: Elden Ring: How To Complete Sorceress Sellen Questline

Seluvis’ questline is one such story, helping you learn more about this haughty mage and his not-so-innocent intentions. Along the way, you will become involved in plots to murder warriors and fell demigods as you aid a scheming mage in furthering his goals.

To start Seluvis’ questline you must have completed the dungeon named the Caria Manor in the game’s second main area, Liurnia of the Lakes. Having beaten this location's boss, you gain access to an area known as the Three Sisters , and more specifically Ranni’s Rise.

The Three Sisters consists of three towers, Ranni's Rise being the central-most building. Be careful when approaching the tower, a dragon guards its entrance. You can simply ride Torrent around the dragon if you wish to avoid a fight.

Once in the tower, head to its highest point to meet Ranni, and begin her questline.

For an outline of this game-spanning storyline, check out our guide on how to complete Ranni the Witch’s questline .

Once you have spoken with Ranni, she will request you speak with her loyal servants, one of which will be Seluvis. Speak with him, Blaidd, and Iji, exhausting each of their dialogue options . This part requires some patience as you talk to every character.

Having done this return to Ranni once more, and begin her questline in earnest.

Once you have pledged yourself to Ranni, reload the area and head to Seluvis’ Rise . This is the furthest left tower in the Three Sisters and can be spotted as such on the map.

At Seluvis’ Rise, speak with the mage. When speaking with him, he will not exactly be polite, perhaps hinting at his true character. During this conversation, Seluvis will present you with a proposition. Deliver a potion of unknown origin to a woman named Nepheli Loux. To continue Seluvis’ questline, accept this task.

With that, he will give you a key item named “Seluvis’ Potion” and send you on your way. From this point in the quest, your decisions will have an impact on its ending.

For one of the endings, you will need to speak to Nepheli in the Roundtable Hold. To find her there you will first need to meet her in the overworld.

At this point in the game, she can most likely be found in Liurna of the Lakes and specifically, the Village of the Albinaurics.

For specific directions on how to find her check out our guide on how to complete Nepheli Loux's questline .

Once in the Village of the Albinaurics speak with Nepheli next to a pile of burning villagers. Exhaust her dialogue here and continue through the village. Lastly, summon Nepheli to defeat the boss of this area. After this, she will return to the Roundtable Hold.

From here, progress her story until she appears at the bottom of the stairs next to the blacksmith and is visibly upset. This will occur after she finds out her father, Sir Gideon, killed the Albinaurics. Refer to our guide for the finer details.

Now, give her Seluvis’ Potion . Importantly, this will end any chance you have of completing her questline, effectively killing her. After this, you will want to return to Seluvis.

If you want to progress Seluvis’ questline while also sparing Nepheli Loux, you will need to take a slightly different path.

Progress Nepheli’s questline as described above, meeting her at the Village of the Albinaurics, and speaking with her and Gideon in the Roundtable Hold but instead give the potion to Sir Gideon. To do this, approach Gideon after learning of Nepheli’s despair. Ask him about it. Following this, tell him about the potion and agree to hand it over to him.

Having given the potion to either Gideon or Nepheli, you will want to return to Seluvis’ tower in the Three Sisters. Once there, tell him that you gave Nepheli the potion. No matter your true actions, the mage will be tricked.

If you chose to give it to Gideon, the mage will be confused but not blame you. He'll assume there has been a mistake.

Next, you must discover Seluvis’ secret room . To do so, travel to the location pictured above and head underground.

If you gave Nepheli the potion, you will find her lifeless body in this underground lair. If not, the room will be filled with other puppets.

Now, reload the area and return to Seluvis. Once there, confront him about his secret room. After this confrontation, Seluvis will reward you for your intuition with the choice of two powerful spirit summons.

Having purchased one of these spirit summons, reload the area once more. Once the area is reloaded, purchase all of Seluvis’ spells and then choose the dialogue option “I want a new puppet.”

Choosing this option will allow you to purchase another puppet using an item called Starlight Shards .

Having purchased all of his spells and obtained your second spirit summon, a new dialogue option will appear. This option will allow you to ask about Seluvis’ scheme.

In this piece of dialogue, the mage will reveal to you a plot that requires you to find an item for him, agree to help him with his plot, and head off to find the item.

With Seluvis’ dialogue exhausted, head to the location above in the Altus Plateau. Journey northward from the Altus Highway Junction and find the Amber Starlight at the foot of a statue.

Once you have this precious item, return to the mage once more to continue the quest.

Take the Amber Starlight back to Preceptor Seluvis and speak with him again. Exhaust his dialogue and he will grant you the Magic Scorpion Charm, an item that raises magic attack but lowers damage negation.

If you wish, this can be the end of your time with this scheming sorcerer , the charm is the last reward you will get from him. However, you can continue your association with Seluvis, and ultimately aid him in betraying Ranni the Witch.

Continue on your journey in the Land’s Between, periodically returning to Seluvis. Eventually, he will give you an item named the Amber Draught.

Take this item to Ranni as she slumbers in her tower, and choose the option to administer the Amber Draught . She will not be best pleased with your actions, and you will be blocked from continuing her questline.

In order to undo your treachery, head to the Church of Vows to absolve your sins.

With that, Seluvis’ quest will be completed. You will have gained a slew of powerful spells, a bounty of important spirit summons, and perhaps betrayed two of Elden Ring’s most pivotal characters.

Your changes have been saved

You’ve reached your account maximum for followed topics.

Seluvis's questline in Elden Ring offers some intriguing rewards and story beats. Here's how to complete it, from start to finish.

Elden Ring offers a plentiful amount of in-depth questlines. Along the way, you will meet a seemingly unlimited number of NPCs. Some of them you may see time and time again, while some you may never cross paths with again after completing a short request. Seluvis, however, is one of the most important NPCs in the Lands Between.

RELATED: How To Get To Moonlight Altar And Finish Ranni Quest In Elden Ring

Though his questline is treacherous and exacting in what it demands of the player, it is well worth the time and effort. At the end of his questline, you will be rewarded with the Magic Scorpion Charm Talisman, Seluvis's Bell Bearing, his armor set, and some additional goodies along the way.

Where To Meet Seluvis

To meet Seluvis, you first need to speak to Ranni The Witch, who can be found in her tower in Caria Manor , located in northern Liurnia . Seluvis will tell you to meet him at his tower (Southeast of Rannis's), where he will task you with finding Nepheli and giving her a potion of his design. Once you agree to go into Ranni's service, she will have you go downstairs and meet with Blaidd, Iji, and Seluvis in their spectral forms.

How To Use Seluvis's Potion? There Are Three Options

Once you receive Seluvis's potion, you now have three options for what to do with it. Option one is to give the potion to Dung Eater (The disease-infested NPC who is originally located at the Round Table), once you have progressed to the point in his quest line where he is strapped to a chair. Option 2 is to simply undertake Seluvis' request and give the potion to Nepheli. To provide Nepheli with the brew, you must progress her quest line until she is in the basement of the Round Table. Before speaking to her, you will have to speak with Gideon (Also located at the Round Table) and ask about her despair. Only then will you have the option of giving her the potion.

The third and final option is to show Gideon the brew while speaking with him and choosing the verbal selection to provide him with the tonic and dispose of it. Once you select an option, return to Seluvis's Rise and inform him that you have completed his task.

The Outcomes Of Each Option

  • If you give the potion to Dung Eater, you will receive a spirit summon version of Dung Eater (but doing so will prevent completion of his full questline).
  • If you give the potion to Nepheli, you will receive a spirit summon version of Nepheli (but this will, again, also prevent completion of her questline.
  • If you show Gideon the brew, you won't be locked out of either of the above questlines, but you will miss out on either Nepheli or Dung Eater's spirit summons. This is the easiest option, as you don't have to work to progress said stories.

Seluvis' Secret Chambers

After letting Seluvis know that you have completed his task, you will need to locate his hidden chambers to progress through his questline. In order to do this, first, go to Ranni's Rise and then travel northeast until you find a set of ruins not so far away. Roll around on the floors of the ruins, and a hidden staircase will present itself .

Climb down the stairs into the room and walk to the opposite side, where there will be a gold message that reads "Seluvis's Puppet Do Not Touch" (if you gave the potion to Nepheli or Dung Eater, you would also find their puppet along with Seluvis's). Upon reading the message, return it to him, and he'll offer you a puppet.

Make sure you have a Starlight Shard in your inventory . You will need it to prompt the option to gain access to his puppet shop.Failing this, you'll need to find an additional Starlight Shard out in Elden Ring's vast open world (there's one East of Oridys's Rise in the Weeping Peninsula) and then return to him. You will now have access to his puppet shop, and if you chose option one or two in the previous step, their respective puppets will be available later on. In order to proceed through Seluvis's questline, purchase one of his puppets, in addition to all the Sorceries he has available.

About The Scheme

After Seluvis cleans out your pockets, you will then have access to the next step. Speak with him again and select the "About The Scheme" option. He will then request that you bring an Amber Starlight Shard back to him. You can find one in a crater northeast of the Altus Highway Junction Site of Grace, in the Altus Plateau (see image above).

RELATED: Elden Ring: All Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone Locations

Once retrieved, bring the Amber Starlight back to Seluvis. At this point in time, you can stop his little side story with no consequences for Ranni's own questline. You will have to speak with him twice to get the Magic Scorpion Charm Talisman, which boosts your magic damage at the cost of lowering your defense. The other option is to complete his side story and repair the damage done with Ranni, but you will need some Celestial Dew to do that.

Give Amber Draught To Ranni

After giving Seluvis the Amber Starlight, rest at a Site of Grace and return to him to receive the Amber Draught. Bring the Draught to Ranni and attempt to give it to her. She will be most displeased, and will tell you to leave immediately. At this point, it is advised that you hurry right away to the Church of Vows and perform an Absolution ritual in order to get back in Ranni's good graces (this is why you'll need the Celestial Dew).

Wrapping Up Seluvis's Quest Line

The deadly end of Seluvis's questline occurs in one of two ways. If you go to the Church of Vows to absolve yourself of your actions and get back in Ranni's good graces, she will return to the state she was in before you tried to sabotage her. You'll also coincidentally find the remains of Seluvis in his Rise, where you can collect his armor set and his Bell Bearing. Note that this will also happen when you've given the Finger Slayer blade to Ranni as you complete her questline, so it is definitely worth doing this beforehand so that you can receive the Magic Scorpion Charm .

Notable Post-Questline Goodies

Once you have completed his quest line, it is recommended that you find the Carian Servant, Pidia, who can be reached by jumping down to a rooftop northeast of Seluvis's Rise . The servant will drop his Bell Bearing in addition to a doll's spirit summons. If you gave the potion to Nepheli at the beginning of this quest, you would receive the Nepheli puppet, but if you gave the potion to Dung Eater or Gideon, you would receive the Dolores puppet.

Note that you can still access Seluvis's shop by examining his dead body, which is distinctly morbid but certainly handy.

  • Give Seluvis's potion to either Nepheli, Dung-eater or Gideon Ofnir.
  • Acquire 3 Starlight Shards if you got the Finger Maiden Therolina Puppet  the first time, or 2 Starlight Shards if you got the Jarwight Puppet  the first time.
  • Reload the area once, talk to Seluvis (he will repeat his last dialogue), reload the area again and he will give you the option to buy the second puppet. None of his sorceries are required to unlock the second puppet option.
  • Seluvis seeks to create a potion that will turn even a demigod into a puppet. To make it, he asks you to acquire an Amber Starlight  shard, which can found in the Altus Plateau . Pidia, Carian Servant sells a Weathered Map to help deduce its exact location.
  • Note: You can stop here with the talisman and continue with Ranni's questline.
  • Note: Receiving the Amber Draught does not lock you into betraying Ranni. When the Draught is in your inventory, you can toggle between administering it to Ranni or simply talking with her to continue her quest line as normal.
  • Note: You can absolve yourself with  Celestial Dew  at the Church of Vows  and continue Ranni's questline without consequence. The NPCs will act as if the Amber Draught episode has never happened.
  • Seluvis will be found dead in his tower and Pidia will be killed by his puppets once you get near to his location.

Ranni's Questline

  • After giving the  Fingerslayer Blade to Ranni, Seluvis can then be found at Seluvis's Rise , dead; thus ending his questline.
  • The end of his questline is synced with  Pidia’s . When the questline ends, Pidia expresses shock that the puppets he loved so dearly would betray him, before letting out screams of terror and being torn apart by his puppets, leaving behind Pidia's Bell Bearing  and a puppet (Dolores or Nepheli; Nepheli's Puppet Ashes will drop instead of Dolores's Puppet Ashes if she was given the potion).

Preceptor Seluvis Secondary Shop (Puppet Ashes)

Seluvis's puppet laboratory is located in one of the ruins near his tower. From Ranni's Rise Site of Grace, head outside and visit the first set of ruins on your left. Striking the floor will reveal an illusory floor and a staircase. Inside will be a message: " Seluvis's puppet. Do not touch. " After confronting him about the laboratory and exhausting his dialogue, he will offer you one of his puppets. You can now exchange  Starlight Shards  for other available Ashes.

Note:   If Seluvis has died due to progress in Ranni's questline, it is still possible to purchase from this shop. Simply return to his dead body and a prompt will appear. Note 2: Alternatively, Dolores's Puppet  Ashes will drop from Pidia if the potion is given to Dung Eater, however you will not get Nepheli's Puppet Ashes from Pidia by doing so. (Nepheli's Puppet Ashes are not purchasable in the shop.)

Dialogue in Elden Ring: Preceptor Seluvis

§ Introduction:

  • I see... You must be Ranni's new hireling. Yes, yes, I've heard all about you. I am Seluvis, preceptor in the sorcerous arts. I don't know what it is the mistress sees in a provincial Tarnished like you, but since we have the misfortune of serving the same Lady, I ask that you kindly try not to drag us all down with you.
  • I reside...in another tower, close by. Come and pay me a visit... Should you wish to be of actual service to Mistress Ranni. If it were up to me, I wouldn't waste my time on the likes of you. But who am I to stand against the wishes of my Lady?
  • Well, well. You took me at my word. Did you not realise I was merely being polite? You provincials never cease to amaze... Hmm, I suppose you're here now. Perhaps I'll give you something to do. I'd like you to find a woman called Nepheli, to administer a potion. Even you can do that much, can't you? [Accept the task] Good, good. Now I shall hand over the potion in question. [Receives Seluvis's Potion] Find Nepheli, and ensure she drinks it. I except glad tidings. And soon.

§ About Nokron:

  • Well, well. You're asking me about that, are you? The task was left to you and the mongrel, was it not? Not only are you incompetent, but shameless to boot. Well...there's no helping it. Now's as good a time as any. I'll let you in on it. There's a glintstone sorcerer by the name of Sellen in Limgrave. She owes me for the help I gave her when she was expelled from the academy. I asked her to look into the matter some time ago. I'll write you a letter of introduction. Go ask her. [Gives Seluvis's Introduction]

After giving someone Seluvis's Potion:

  • Ahh, so you made Nepheli drink the potion? Well done. You are a touch more useful than I had thought. Very well. Then you shall have your gift. Knowledge of the sorcerous arts, under the tutelage of the great Preceptor Seluvis. I doubt much of it will lay within the grasp of a mere Tarnished, but... If you put your mind to it, perhaps you won't embarrass our Lady.
  • You wish to begin right this moment? Well, your impatience, though boorish, is understandable. Let's have at it.

Hand over the scroll:

  • Hmm. Is that a scroll? I won't bother to ask where you pilfered it, but... You're correct to assume I'm one of the few who can decipher it. So, I'm perfectly happy to take it off your hands. That said, don't you dare get your hopes up. More often than not, new knowledge is merely an opportunity to reflect... ...upon the mediocrity of one's intellect.

After purchasing all available sorceries:

  • Come now, the pretence of comprehension becomes you not. Bend over backwards any further and you're apt to break.

About Nepheli:

  • So, you had Nepheli drink the potion? Truly? Hmm. Then perhaps something was amiss with it. It's concocted from the finest ingredients. But perhaps I should review the recipe. I may have expected too much of her, to begin with.

About your chambers:

  • You break into a man's private chambers, rooting about as you please? Your oafishness knows no bounds. Fine and well. You tricked Nepheli, and had her drink the potion. I believe that makes you my accomplice. You yearn for a puppet of your own, hmm? Well, normally one of your stature would never be allowed. But perhaps I can make a very special exception. Now, choose. [Offers choice between Finger Maiden Therolina Puppet and Jarwight Puppet]
  • (Upon returning)  How's the puppet I gave you? A thing of exquisite craft, is it not?

I want a new puppet (after accepting the free puppet and finding more Starlight Shards):

  • What's that? You want another puppet? Quite the keen paramour, aren't we. But, I'm afraid each and every one is like a child to me. I can hardly just give them away. Oh dear, what's to be done? Why don't you...fetch me some starlight shards? If you can manage it, I'll gladly prepare a new puppet for you. The soul of every puppet has its own ambience. You'll soon come to know, once you possess a few. And once each's predilections are known to you, the better you'll be able to love them. Oh yes, you have much to look forward to, further down this road. [Opens puppet shop]

After purchasing another puppet:

  • You're proving to be quite the puppeteer. I've not had an apprentice for...a very long time indeed.

About the scheme:

  • Perhaps, you'd be interested in a little scheme of mine? It will produce the finest of puppets. Which I aspire to cherish with these very hands. A ploy to fool even Lady Ranni... How does that sound?
  • [I'm interested] Ahh, I knew I had you pegged. You're just like me. Then I'd like you to procure something. A rather unique starlight shard that glistens with amber. With that, my special draught will gleam with nectar-sweetness. And even a demigod would be slave to its charms...
  • [I'm not interested] Very good. A wise choice, indeed. You passed my little test with flying colours. I was merely gauging your loyalty to Lady Ranni. Well done, I'm very proud of you. Let's both do our utmost in service of our Lady.
  • [Returning to hear more about the scheme] Ah ha. Might you be interested after all? In a fine scheme to sport with Lady Ranni?

About Amber Starlight:

  • Procure it for me. The rather unique starlight shard that glistens with amber. With that, my special draught will gleam with nectar-sweetness. And even a demigod would be slave to its charms...

Give Amber Starlight:

  • Well, well, you managed to lay your hands on it! The blessed day is finally upon us... Goodness gracious, the way it glistens...utterly enchanting. To think, this was once a demigod's very fate... My oh my oh my....
  • Ah, are you still here? Oh yes, I should give you your reward. Please, it's all yours. Splendid work. Just marvelous. [Gives Magic Scorpion Charm]
  • Now, just you wait. The merriment is soon to begin. The scheme I promised is to be revealed very shortly...
  • (Talk again without reloading the area)  You'll be flabbergasted, I can assure you. The secret* I promised is to be revealed very shortly... *He says "The secret" here, yet the subtitles repeat "The scheme" as in the previous line.

§ Returning to Seluvis:

  • Good, I've been waiting for you. It's finally complete. The perfection of my draught, gleaming nectar-sweet. Give it to Ranni and ensure she drinks it. [Gives Amber Draught]
  • The dead-eyed doll lets down her guard in your presence, rather remarkably. Though she might dip her hands in the dirt, and feign that icy persona...she's a frail, gentle girl at heart.

About the draught:

  • You...understand, don't you? That once you have Ranni drink my draught, my scheme will come to fruition. And we, well, we'll be in a position to claim the very finest puppet ever crafted. Just imagine...the pure elation...

About the draught (after receiving the Amber Draught and purchasing all available sorceries):

  • Come now, don't make me wait. I can barely contain myself as it is...

When attacked:

  • Agh! Enough of that, now. Have you forgotten that we both serve the same Lady?
  • You incorrigible lout. Don't you dare waltz back here again.
  • I have no time for idle chit chat. The only thing I will hear from you is a report of your task's completion. Are we understood? Then off you trot.
  • Begging for another lesson so soon? There remains much to be done. Make it quick.

Preceptor Seluvis Notes & Trivia

  • Seluvis' name is a reference to the character Severus Snape from Harry Potter. His Japanese name セルブス (serubusu) is an anagram of Severus (セブルス seburusu).
  • Gideon and Seluvis seem to have a long-standing hatred, if not rivalry, for each other.
  • One of the ashes is only available if you give the potion to the Dung Eater or Nepheli, rather than letting Gideon dispose of it. (?)
  • Above and beyond the violation/creep factor of Seluvis's entire operation with puppetry in general, there are numerous additional context clues that suggest a darkly sexual component to the preceptor's own intentions regarding his unwilling thralls. The presence of Sorceress Sellen's puppet (the only one found stood upright and "activated" within his chambers) kept behind a second privacy-guaranteeing illusory wall in his laboratory AND adjacent to a bed, Seluvis responding to you discovering his secret by offering you a choice (i e. a bribe ) of your own puppet between an innocent maiden and an unclothed man (and that, only after commenting that your demonstrated willingness to help him subjugate Nepheli into unwilling puppetry has already effectively made you his "accomplice"), his reference to you being "quite the paramour" should you return to request additional puppets, and arguably worst of all the truly evil implication of his original intent to utilize the player to lay irreversible claim upon body and mind of the foster daughter of his long-standing rival , Gideon. (See the next bullet point for even further context regarding this.)
  • The fact you receive Dolores only after giving Nepheli, Gideon's daughter, the potion and later find her as a doll also implies that Seluvis may have grown tired of Dolores as a puppet. It's possible he sought Gideon's adoptive daughter as a replacement.

accept seluvis task

It's ridiculous you need 3 play throughs to get all puppets, I'm doing a completionist run and my last item is the dung eater puppet. **** this guy

Biggest chad in the game

Can you fock yourself if you interact with the "puppet do not touch" message before actually meeting and talking to him? As a compulsive Margitt's shackle user I found his basement sooner than intended, now I don't get the option to buy anything from him, he just gave me the potion and told met to hurry up.

I need help with this Guy. I'm currently on my first playthrough and don't want anyone to get harmed by him. Should I just progress Nepheli and Dung Eaters quest and ignore him? Or is he somehow bound to Rannis quest?

So...what exactly is the point of betraying Ranni? You don't get anything for doing it and you can just...undo it with celestial dew. Is there any reason you shouldn't just progress to the point where you get the talisman and then stop?

Does anyone think that pidia and selevis are the same guy or pidia controls selevis at least? Like both of them refer to their puppets 'pidia when he gets killed by his puppets' and 'selevis when he talks about them being his children', additionally selevis isn't dead (when he betrays ranni) but hollow like sellen when her soul is removed (before jerren kills her) and pidia dies as well when the scheme is unmasked. Additionally selevis is referred as selevis puppet much like some other "_____ puppets" that end up in your inventory when he tries to bribe you.

Note: he doesn't instantly die after you give the Fingerslayer Blade to Ranni. If you don't rest at a Site of Grace after that, but go straight to Seluvis, you can progress his quest by exhausting his dialogue, provided that you have all you need on you, and get the Magic Scorpion Charm. You'll miss on the Amber Starlight Potion, but that's effectively useless. I've just found out about it and I don't know how back you can be in Seluvis's quest in order to do it all at once. I had already discovered the chamber and given the first potion to Gideon, and I had a few Starlight Shards on me, as well as the Amber Starlight Shard; I gave the Fingerslayer Blade to Ranni and I went to Seluvis to collect his items (I'm on NG+), but he was still alive and I was and to buy a puppet, give him the Amber Starlight Shard and acquire the Magic Scorpion Charm.

Still, great hat. You have to give him that.

why would seluvis try to make ranni a puppet? she's already a puppet. is he stupid?

When picking your free puppet, choose Jarwight. He normally costs 3 shards, while the other option only costs 2. So choosing him as the first (free) puppet means saving 1 starlight shard.

The game tries so hard to paint this guy as an ******* that he somehow goes back to being likeable, they should have made it so the potion actually worked on Ranni instead of letting her Mary Sue through it unscathed, a possible alternate bad ending to the Ranni one would have been interesting at least.

he's literally me fr fr

It's so funny how his final quest is him trying to cuckold you and if you agree to help him your witch wife just calls you a degenerate and kills you

Those reasonings for his sexual intentions are brain damaging

who the hell writes these "guides"?? it's confusing as ****

People are all wrong about him, he was being manipulated by Pidia and by extension Ranni. She had him make the puppets to use as spies and assassins. Once both of them were of no use Ranni turned on them.

It's "preceptor" not a "rapesextor" my lady (not that you can move and talk back anyway)

He stirs me

Big Hat Lo-life

Seluvis didn’t kill himself

"Oh but he's actually likeable because he's a douche." Bruh no, he isn't a douche, he's a r*pist. What is wrong with Elden Ring players.

Favorite npc I love rping as his obedient and simping puppet.

He and Ranni fanbase actually have the same goal regarding the 4armed waifu

"Seluvis' name is a reference to the character Severus Snape from Harry Potter. His Japanese name セルブス (serubusu) is an anagram of Severus (セブルス seburusu)." Citation very much needed.

I feel like there was a missed opportunity to have Seluvis move to roundtable, and become the yurt/Lautrec of this game by disappearing npcs one by one into puppets, and eventually finding them is a major thing, where you could rescue just one of those taken with an item

Yeah **** this dude. From the first time I spoke w him I wanted to murk em. Getting that ending was satisfying, ahh.

Boy I sure do love have quests totally locked out without knowing their conditions. Anyone who says you can play this game without constantly checking online for what to do is a liar lol

there's something funny about him trying to turn Ranni into a puppet, when she's already literally a puppet(s). I wonder what that's saying thematically

Whose worse; Seluvis, Pate, or Lautrec

What does the Amber Drought even do then? Why unsuccessfully poison Ranni if he already gave you the scorpion charm and absolutely nothing changes compared to if you didn't?

Professor Snape sounding ass

“ Reload the area once, talk to Seluvis(he will repeat his last dialogue), reload the area again and he will give you the option to buy the second puppet” - wow, damn it. I reloaded the area once, saw he repeated all dialogue, and finished Ranni’s quest. Why, just why, lol

I like him because He wants to kill ranni.

I needed him alive for his quest, so I came here instead to see his dialogue when he dies

booo, freaky old man wizard. he's so mean. i love him

I kinda wish there was a way to make amber draught work and continue the questline. Capturing Ranni, taking control of her powers, saving Sellen and overthrowing the Carians completely. Could unlock a brand new ending, Age of the Glintstone

I know a lot of people hate this guy. But I like him. His over-the-top arrogant attitude combined with that funny voice make me laugh every time he talks to me. He somehow reminds me of Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants.

It is utterly ridiculous that any game has instructions to continue quests by saying "Reload the area once" and "reload the area again." Incredibly poor design. And, yes, I know: this is FromSoft. But still. You would think they would have done a better job on some of this.

I wish there was some use for that "demigod drug" of his. Imagine getting npc or boss of your choice as a puppet

I wish it was possible to turn Ranni into a puppet. The reward could be a new night sorcery, a somber ancient dragon smithing stone and unlocking an evil sorcerer ending.

I hate Preceptor Seluvis so much. I hate that he insults you constantly and treats you like crap. I hate that he makes getting the magic scorpion charm quickly nearly impossible without the wiki. I hate his creepy turning people-into-sex-toys thing and him trying to roofie and SA Nepheli. I hate that his hideout is so hard to find. I hate the fact you have to pretend to be a sex pest too to get the talisman. I hate that Seluvis makes you reload his area multiple times to get the dialogue you want to do his questline when his tower doesn't have a grace at it. I hate that he demands the limited and valuable resource of Starlight Shards. I hate that the map someone else sells you to find the amber starlight shard is nearly useless. Most of all I hate that after he subjects you to all of this to get his talisman and you try to kill him for all of the **** above, he teleports away instead of dying properly.

Praetor Seluvis be like "We will drug the very gods togedah"

I somehow got to the point in Ranni's questioned where she leaves the tower and Seluvis was still alive. He was fortunately dead the next time I paid him a visit.

Do you get to the Caria district very often? Oh, what am I saying, of course you don’t.

He's an insufferable *******, likely commits SA on his puppets, and his quest gives some potentially useful items, but completing the quest actively harms you since Ranni just kills you and hates you, making it immensely unsatisfying because there's not even the slightest mechanical reason to ever do it because you get ZERO rewards from it. Honestly? I love that. It's nice to see evil people just remain irredeemably evil and you getting punished if you choose to help them. There's nothing good about this man, he's clearly evil, and the only reason Ranni hasn't offed him before you get there is because he might be behind her doll body, or he has some useful knowledge, or she's just that desperate for allies that she can't turn him away yet (Since, after all, she only has 3 NPC allies in the entire game - Blaidd, who is forced to try to betray her, Seluvis, who will eventually betray her, and Iji, who is the ONLY character who doesn't ever betray her at any point). There's no possible justification for his actions, he's just a ****ey, garbage human being. Even Dungeater has the potential excuse of having being driven completely and utterly insane by his captors. I wish more writers would remember that, while most people are good at heart or have some underlying reason as to why they do evil, some people are just pieces of garbage. And it's nice when writers for games present the obviously evil option to the player and then make it completely and absolutely not worth doing at all. 10/10 writing here, Fromsoft. I absolutely love what you've done with this horrible, wretched, evil man and his quest.

So like…It’s confirmed that Seluvis and Pidia are basically turning these people into sex dolls yeah, or is it just that my head canon has here two as being way more grotesque than was intended.

Turn to page 394!

"The Lunar Princess married a Tarnished. Millions must die."

DS2's Manikin armour says that "The peculiar art of puppetry is a vestige of the two lost lands" which is something that Seluvis' quest alludes to preforming. And the Mask of Confidences (the same one as Seluvis without the hat) have "the mouth sewn shut with gold thread" suggesting that it didn't have the thread at some point- look up DS2's Manikin mask.

I don't know what the hell is up with my game. I've given Nepheli the potion, and she is in the basement and I've followed the steps to be able to purchase puppets from Seluvis, yet I STILL can't see her in his inventory. Can someone explain this?

My theory is that Seluvis is actually a puppet controlled by Pidia and has been his avatar all along. If you read Dolores’ spirit ash it tells you there was a love triangle between her, Seluvis and Gideon. After giving Seluvis’ potion to Gideon and completing Ranni’s questline, Seluvis is in a puppet stance. Visiting Pidia again prompts a dialogue where the puppets kill him and he drop Dolore’s spirt ash, the woman from the Gideon/Seluvis love triangle.

Would've been kinda cool if doing this allowed Ranni to actually be made into a puppet that led to a questline end where He goes mad and you kill him and take the Ranni Puppet for a summon... (Granted that means making Ranni have an actual moveset and well... movement in general (she never moves/idles around like a player))

yet another boring and needlessly convoluted questline that goes nowhere, woohoo

An intersting fact about "dead" Selluvis - he is in the same pose as his puppets. Maybe Ranni got herself a puppet, too I wonder... =)

I really love the fact that they put characters like Gideon and Seluvis into the game who are just mean, corrupt and twisted. Especially Seluvis as an ancient, sheming and morally unhinged mage who's plots know no bounds.

Just wondering if i'm the only one who visited his lab third time(progressed along the Ranni questline, seen Pidia death, bought all puppets, finished Sellen questline) and heard voice here talking about how he is a part of Ranni and so on... Looks like Pidia and Seluvis are both just puppets of something else. And whatever it is it's not dead.

He's so disgusting ❤️

You can just drop a starlight shard from your inventory pick it up and then go visit seluvis, worked for me. I had 10 shards when I went to go get the dung eaters puppet. So if you're like me and don't have any more to pick up(or will see one anytime soon)

Killed him because he tried to diss me, somehow Ranni cared enough to make me fail her questline.

You'd think they pull a Severus Snape thing and have him actually be a good person at the end of the day or something. But the fact that they just double down and make him way worse is actually kind of funny.

Really lame how you can't actually succeed and mess Ranni up, but it's no wonder considering how big of a bias the devs have towards her.

This could have actually been a good quest... if only the potion worked. It's so stupid that some FromSoftware characters are "Plot-Armored".

It's possible for his shop to still be active after you complete Ranni's questline. I gave him the amber starlight shard and accepted the reward, but didn't talk to him after that. When I finished Ranni's questline (and killed Blaidd) and went to see him, "examine" is an option for his corpse. The NPC title of the shop just says "puppet" after this.

"Note that you must visit Seluvis's lab in the illusion-concealed basement of the building between Renna's Rise and Ranni's Rise, and then receive a free puppet from him, BEFORE you can buy the puppet you earned by using the potion." Thanks for that IMPORTANT info, dumba55 game. I better still be able to get the Dung Eater.

Wasnt killed by Ranni when I gave her the potion. She called me a hapless scum and told me to leave but I didn't die...

Dolores also drops from Pidia if you gave the potion to Gideon

You can give the Fingerslayer Blade to Ranni, exhaust her dialogue and then walk over to Seluvis, hand in the Amber Starlight shard and receive the Magic Scorpion Charm. Seluvis only dies after a reload, so if you already acquired the Amber Starlight shard but forgot or delayed turning it in, this is your last chance. Just do not reload or fast travel to another site of grace.

Not gonna lie, it's kinda hard to not frenzyflame the sht out of this guy

Seems like you have to interact with the message in his chambers to get the dialogue option confronting him about it.

"go acquire another Starlight Shard, or drop one from your inventory and pick it up again". Found out the hard way that discard is not drop.

Giant, but hole ahead

Love that Ranni still takes the time to execute him before she leaves on her journey

He wouldn't sell puppets to me after gifting me the first one. After following the directions listed on the wiki failed to open the shop, I turned to Reddit. Found a tip that waiting three days either in game time, or by a grace, would open the shop. Tested each day one by one by waiting at a grace, and surprisingly, after three days, it worked! Seluvis will now sell puppets to me. I don't know of any other quests, or mechanics, that involve a day/night cycle rotation.

Can you still get to astel after seluvis is dead?

You can obtain both puppets by going to Pidia after giving Ranni the fingerslayer blade. He is going to be killed by the guards and drop the dolores puppet

Fun fact: Selluvis is a puppet himself, controlled by Pidia. When he "dies" at the same time as Pidia is tore limb from limb by his own puppets (likely controlled by Ranni) he falls down in the same position as the idle puppets of his room, meaning Pidia was the one controlling him all along.

I'm almost positive that leaving this quest imcompleted (waiting on Finding Dung), it is also causing nepheli's quest to be froze at the part where she says them owl ashes smell good

Make sure to talk to him again after getting the potion for Nepheli if you want to continue Sellen's quest to get the legendary spells.

Tries to turn a doll into a doll, yes 100 IQ idea right there.

You don't need to buy his sorceries to progress his quest, just buy the puppets.

Imagine if he had those puppets in giant jars

Gideon offers to 'get one over on Seluvis' but then he says he'll dispose of the potion :( I wish he'd help us use it on Seluvis instead. I would have liked to have him as a Spirit summon.

WHY IS THERE A BED IN HIS "SELUVIS'S PUPPET" ROOM

I had a dream last night that you'd find Seluvis in the valiant gargoyles arena, and after killing him he'd drop a IWI Tavor assault rifle

QUestion: If Dungeater was on the chair, and I give him Seluvis potion, and then I kill dungeater, can I still get him as doll in this cycle? Someone said this was possible, but it didn't seem to work

Cover your crimson flask when you go to his tower

he tried bill cosby'ing a demigod lmao

these quests be confusing as ****

Love him or hate him, the dude's elden bling is fire

Seluvis is like straid of Ophalis if straid was stripped of his comically entertaining characteristics that make him loveable.

I gave the potion to dung eater when he sits in his chair in the cell and asks for seedbed curses. Seluvis said.. So u gave the potion to dung eater.. I dont get it...

I feel like this is the one souls character who is universally hated by the community.

Between Seluvis and Dung Eater, I think Seluvis is ultimately the most horrible and disgusting character in the game. Dung Eater at least does what he does because of some deluded sense of duty toward his grand purpose, as he thinks it, plus he's definitely lost most of his mind. Seluvis on the other hand is pure, petty malice. He turns people into his personal puppets, that he does what he wants with, only for his own personal pleasure. He is an egotistical, self serving, arrogant scumbag. Not only that, he is completely sane and ok with everything he does. Honestly, Seluvis disgusts me far more than Dung Eater.

In my opinion, the absolute scummiest character in all the Soulsborne games. Finished his questline out of morbid curiosity, and certainly felt uncomfortable about the whole thing. I know people bring up Ranni's 'plot armor' but I have an idea why Seluvis' grand scheme failed: Ranni is the only one of the Shardbearers that is not a living being. Her physical flesh is gone, replaced with the doll her spirit inhabits. And dolls typically don't react to drinking anything, let alone mind wiping substances. If he was able to apply the potion to any other Shardbearer it's likely his grand plan to make one a puppet would have been successful, but in his...desires he chose the only one that was already, in a way, a puppet. Ranni probably already knew about Selevus' 'hobby', but probably didn't think he'd go that far, or the Tarnished would agree to go with it. And in the end, he (and the Tarnished, maybe) get what he properly deserves.

where does he go if attacked?

cant believe they added bill cosby to elden ring

Elden Ring Seluvis quest: Should you give Nepheli the potion?

Puppets dancing to his tune.

Update: We've streamlined the information on this page and added some additional tips so that you have no trouble completing Seluvis' quest.

The Elden Ring Seluvis quest is a lengthy one that runs parallel with Ranni’s quest and gives you access to a powerful summon - if you play dirty enough to get it.

There are some important caveats about the timing of Seluvis’ quest, though, and if you see his quest through completely, you’ll even be barred from one of Elden Ring’s major endings Completing it is entirely optional, though if nothing else, it's worth visiting Seluvis after speaking to Ranni so you can buy a few strong sorceries .

How do you start the Seluvis quest in Elden Ring?

Should you give the potion to nepheli in elden ring, how do you progress seluvis’ quest in elden ring.

Seluvis’ quest begins when you meet an astral projection of the mage in Ranni's Rise at the very start of Ranni's quest, though it won’t appear until you speak to Ranni first. That requires defeating Loretta the Royal Knight - the Caria Manor boss - and there is a major caveat related to timing.

If you've started the Radahn Festival by clearing Redmane Castle, arriving in the courtyard where Blaidd and Alexander are, or if you've arrived at Altus Plateau before speaking to Ranni first, you won't be able to start the quest or speak with Seluvis until after defeating Radahn .

However, before you speak to Ranni, you may want to start Sorcerer Rogier’s quest first. That involves speaking to him in Roundtable Hold, touching the bloodstain in Stormveil’s crypt, and obtaining the Black Knife Glyph from the Black Knife Catacombs in eastern Liurnia.

If you speak to Ranni first, Rogier will die after giving you his sword, which means you miss out on some important lore. If you complete Rogier’s quest, he sends you to meet Ranni anyway.

Anyhow, once you’ve spoken with Ranni at a point that suits your needs, head downstairs and speak with Seluvis’ apparition. He tells you to speak with him in person, so head to his tower, Seluvis’ Rise, a short walk across from Ranni’s Rise.

Seluvis asks you to give Nepheli Loux a potion that would transform her into one of his puppets. You can’t progress anything further with him until you do something with the potion, but what you do is up to you.

No, there are better options. Giving Nepheli the potion earns you the Dolores puppet Spirit summon, but locks you out of Nepehli’s quest . Speak with Gideon instead – the grumpy man sitting at a desk outside the Table of Grace room – and he’ll advise that you dispose of the potion, offering to dispose of it for you. You can then return to Seluvis, and he’ll just think the potion didn’t work.

There’s another alternative, though. If you begin the Loathesome Dung-Eater’s quest by showing a Seedbed Curse (obtained from the Draconic Tree Sentinel) to his specter in Roundable Hold, you’ll eventually reach a point later in the game where you can feed him Seedbed Curses in the Subterranean Shunning Grounds.

accept seluvis task

Give him the potion instead, and he'll turn into Seluvis' puppet instead of Nepheli. Then, he will become available for purchase as a Spirit Ash from Seluvis, and the Dungeater Puppet is a damn good summon to use. This branch takes longer to complete, though, which means your time with Seluvis gets put on hold.

Either way, head back to the courtyard between the Rises after you’ve decided what to do with the potion. Enter the secret basement under the illusory floor between the arches – the same one where Sellen has a spare body – and then report back to Seluvis.

Ask him about his quarters, and he’ll let you pick a summon: the Finger Maiden Therulina puppet or the Jarwright puppet. You can also buy a handful of sorcery spells from him after that, including the excellent Glintstone Icecrag.

The next phase begins after you’ve moved forward in Ranni’s quest. After you speak with Blaidd in Siofra River, return to Seluvis’ Rise and speak with the wizard.

He’ll explain some of his motivations and mention a way into Nokron, the Eternal City, though he'll also do the same if you start Ranni's quest after defeating Radahn.

If you’ve bought a second puppet from him, he’ll send you to collect Amber Starlight to turn a demigod (Ranni, in this case) into a puppet. The Amber Starlight is found north of the Altus Highway Junction Site of Grace (closest to the Sainted Hero's Grave Site of Grace), in the valley with multiple Land Octopi.

Bring it back to Seluvis, and you’ll receive the potion for Ranni. Seluvis will also give you the Magic Scorpion Charm, a Talisman that boosts your magic attack and the cost of making you take more damage, after giving the potion to Ranni.

Note that if you give it this potion to Ranni, she’ll leave in anger and you won’t be able to complete her quest.

If you want to complete Ranni's questline, make sure you have given her the Finger Slayer Blade before giving her Seluvis' potion. You can also visit the Church of Vows and seek absolution for your sins, and you will then be able to continue Ranni's quest.

The following is my take on where to find Seluvis and how to complete his quest.

Elden Ring’s Preceptor, Seluvis, is one of many NPCs that players will encounter. Progressing in this quest is mandatory in case one wishes to trade/ purchase items from Seluvis, which can be important for players targeting a magic build. So, I think players should know about the location of Seluvis in the Elden Ring.

  • Locate Elden Ring Seluvis Tower in the “Three Sisters” sub-region near Ranni Rise, accessible after Carian Manor.
  • Seluvis requires completing his first task: delivering a potion to Nepheli Loux.
  • After defeating Omenkiller in the Village of the Albinaurics , find Nepheli in Roundtable Hold.
  • Give the potion to Nepheli.
  • Return to Seluvis to inform him about delivering the potion.
  • Find Seluvis’s puppet cellar entrance in the “Three Sisters” sub-region to progress.
  • Return to Seluvis for the task of finding Amber Starlight or buying it from Pidia .
  • Seluvis crafts the Amber Draught, and your final task is giving it to Ranni.

Location Of Seluvis

I would not recommend you to fight the dragon just now. So, unlock Seluvis Rise by initiating the Ranni the Witch quest line from Ranni in Ranni’s Rise. Swear allegiance to Ranni , exit the tower, and talk to Seluvis at Seluvis Tower. However, sorcery purchases are not immediately available.

Seluvis Quest Walkthrough

Delivering The Potion:

where to find nepheli

  • Meet Nepheli Loux near the entrance to the village of Albinaurics.
  • Defeat the Omenkiller in the area.
  • Nepheli will automatically return to the Roundtable Hold.
  • Return to the Roundtable Hold and face a critical decision regarding the potion.
  • You have three choices: give the potion to Gideon for disposal, give it to Nepheli Loux ( ending her quest), or give it to the Dungeater.
  • I would recommend giving it to Gideon.
  • After your decision, return to Seluvis and inform him that the task is complete.

Locating The Puppet Cellar:

puppet cellar in the three sisters location

  • Head to Seluvis’s Puppet Cellar location.
  • Attack the ground to dispel an illusionary floor.
  • Uncover a secret entrance leading underground to a chamber filled with frozen individuals who consumed a potion.
  • Explore the cellar, including a room resembling Sellen’s room in the Waypoint Ruins.
  • Return to Seluvis after your investigation.

Choosing Summonable Ashes:

  • Seluvis will let you choose between two summonable ashes: Jarwright Pupper and Finger Maiden Therolina Puppet.
  • I would recommend choosing Finger Maiden Therolina Puppet for starters.
  • If you gave Nepheli the potion earlier, you can also choose “Dolores the Sleeping Arrow Puppet .”
  • Purchase the rest of the puppets as well.

Obtaining the Amber Draught:

seluvis elden ring

  • Head northwest of the Altus Highway Junction Site of Grace in the Altus Plateau region.
  • Traverse the forest to find a statue.
  • Obtain the Amber Starlight (or purchase it from Pidia).
  • Return to Seluvis with the Amber Starlight.
  • Seluvis will craft an Amber Draught for you and reward you with a Magic Scorpion Charm.
  • Seluvis will ask you to give the Amber   Draught to Ranni .
  • Giving the Amber Draught to Rannilock the Age of Stars and ending Seluvis’s quest.

That wraps up my guide on Elden Ring Seluvis’s quest, in which I have listed his location, the quests that overlap his quest, and how to start and finish his quest. Seluvis may be one of the most hated NPCs in Elden Ring, but his quest sure is an interesting one.

During your journey throughout the Lands Between, you are bound to come across opponents that will give you a hard time; thus, consider reading the guide on the BEST weapons in the Elden Ring , as they are sure to help you out. Consider reading the guide on the BEST armor and the BEST Light Armor Sets as well.

Elden Ring: Who Should You Give Seluvis’ Potion to? All Outcomes & Rewards

Post Cover Image

Preceptor Seluvis is one of Elden Ring’s most interesting characters and who to give his potion to is a huge dilemma. Here’s what you should do with it!

Elden Ring players will first find the arrogant sorcerer Preceptor Seluvis when visiting Ranni the witch and he won’t be a character you’ll forget quickly.

His questline might be quite simple, but it presents players with a difficult decision. Who do you give the potion from Seluvis to?

Luckily, we’ve got all of the outcomes so you can decide who to give Seluvis’ potion to!

Also, check out our guides on how to complete other Elden Ring side quests:

Elden Ring Preceptor Seluvis Questline Guide

When speaking to Seluvis’ spectral form on the ground floor of Ranni’s Rise, he will ask you to meet him at his tower, Seluvis’s Rise. Here he will give you a potion to give to Nepheli, but should you do it?

Who to Give Seluvis’ Potion to in Elden Ring

Give nepheli loux the potion.

  • To give the potion to Nepheli, you will have to get part of the way through the Nepheli Loux questline .
  • You will find her sitting at the bottom of the stairs at Roundtable Hold.
  • Giving Nepheli the potion lets you get the Dolores the Sleeping Arrow Puppet after finding the puppet in Seluvis’ hidden laboratory. Although, you can also get this later from Pidia in Caria Manor.
  • However, we recommend not doing this because it will mean you can’t complete Nepheli’s questline.

Elden Ring Nepheli Loux Throne Room

Give Dung Eater the Potion

  • Alternatively, if you have progressed the Dung Eater questline to the point where you need to get him Seedbed Curses, you can give him the potion.
  • Giving the potion to Dung Eater also makes him a puppet and lets you get the Dung Eater Summon from Seluvis later, but it is not recommended.
  • This is because it locks you out of the rest of Dung Eater’s quest and also one of the game’s endings.

Elden Ring Dung Eater

Give Gideon Ofnir the Potion

  • Finally, the best option is to give the potion to Gideon Ofnir, also in Roundtable Hold.
  • Speaking to Gideon gives you the option to hand over the potion to him. He will then dispose of it and tell you to lie to Seluvis.
  • This is the best option as it lets you continue both Nepheli Loux and Dung Eater’s quests. Plus, Seluvis will just think the potion didn’t work, meaning you can continue his quest as well.
  • The only downside is that you can’t get either of the summons. Don’t worry though – there are plenty more great Spirit Ash Summons to get !

Elden Ring Gideon Ofnir

Seluvis Questline Part 2 – Should You Give Ranni the Potion?

  • After returning to Seluvis, you can learn new spells from him, and he gives you a hint about how to get to Nokron . However, there is more to Seluvis than this.
  • There is a hidden underground room in the ruins by Ranni’s Rise. This is Seluvis’ laboratory which contains his puppets and something very important you need for the Sorceress Sellen questline!
  • You can now speak to Seluvis again, and he will reveal a plot to give Ranni a potion and turn her into a Puppet.
  • If you agree, you will have to find an Amber Starlight Shard in Altus Plateau and bring it back to him.
  • He will then reward you with the Magic Scorpion Charm, and next time you come back will ask you to give the sorceress Ranni the Amber Draught.

Elden Ring Seluvis Secret Lab

  • Ranni’s questline and the Moonlight Greatsword will be locked as giving her the potion will upset her. However, you can visit the Church of Vows to absolve your sins if you want to continue her quest.
  • Therefore, we only recommend giving Ranni the potion if you don’t want to continue her quest or have a Celestial Dew to use at the Chruch of Vows.
  • Additionally, Seluvis will die as soon as you try to give Ranni the Amber Draught. This is the end of his questline in Elden Ring.

Starstruck Vagabond Is A Perfect Crossover Between Stardew Valley & Elite: Dangerous: A Review

10 harsh realities of playing fallout 76, xbox fans should prepare for a dark day on july 29, but there is a silver lining.

Players who have entered the service of Ranni the Witch in  Elden Ring have the opportunity to take on a quest from Preceptor Seluvis, a haughty sorcerer who asks a potion be delivered to Nepheli Loux, another Tarnished. Selvuvis, who believes his own intellect to be far above the player character's, does not elaborate on the potion's purpose, commanding the player to follow his bidding in ignorance. Likewise, the potion is also mysteriously absent of details in its item description, but poking around Seluvis' Rise and talking to some other NPCs can shed some light on the sorcerer's machinations, and why Nepheli may have been chosen as his target.

Seluvis is found in the Three Sisters area, sequestered behind Caria Manor and one of Elden Ring 's optional bosses in Liurnia , Royal Knight Loretta. He'll first be encountered in spirit form in Ranni's Rise, but once the player has entered the witch's service, Seluvis invites them for a chat in person. Seluvis' Rise is nearby, and speaking to him reveals he was only extending an invitation out of decorum. Nonetheless, he recruits the player to deliver his potion to Nepheli, who may have been encountered before in Stormveil Castle and subsequently appears in Roundtable Hold. Nepheli is the adoptive daughter of Sir Gideon Ofnir the All-Knowing, the NPC in the Roundtable who tells the player who the Shardbearers are and where they might be found.

Related:  Elden Ring: Why Fia Is Working For The Prince Of Death

Players can simply do Seluvis' bidding and give Nepheli the potion, but this likely isn't in the player's best interest and doesn't fully explain what the potion is for. Speaking with Gideon, who is always buried in some  lore books Elden Ring desperately needs to implement as a feature, reveals that Seluvis may have sinister intentions (if that wasn't already obvious) and offers to dispose of the potion. Players can keep the potion if they want, and returning to Seluvis' Rise and doing a little exploring will show what the sorcerer was hoping to accomplish. Under an illusory floor outside of his tower, Seluvis has a dungeon filled with puppets, husks of his previous victims who presumably drank a potion similar to the one given to the player. Seluvis is the puppet master, and reluctantly offers the power to control them to the player if he's asked about his experiments.

Elden Ring - Why Seluvis' Potion Was Meant For Nepheli Loux

If players opt to give Nepheli the potion, Seluvis' treachery is confirmed when Nepheli's Spirit Ashes can be purchased from him. This isn't recommended, since it will prematurely end Nepheli's questline, and hers aren't Spirit Ashes worth upgrading in Elden Ring . Giving the potion to Gideon won't affect Seluvis' quest either, since the sorcerer will just think the concoction didn't work. Seluvis' motivation for turning Nepheli into a puppet appears to be a pursuit of more powerful underlings. He doesn't explicitly state this, but continuing his quest eventually reveals his true ambitions. After purchasing all of his sorceries and one of the puppet Spirit Ashes, Seluvis tells the Tarnished that his ultimate goal is to brew a potion that can turn a demigod into a puppet. His final target will be Ranni, but what Seluvis intends to do with a demigod puppet is never explained, since the potion doesn't work and causes Ranni's questline to fail.

Although Nepheli appears to be just Seluvis' next victim, chosen for the fighting prowess she demonstrates as a summon against Elden Ring 's Tarnished limb harvester Godrick , there are a few clues suggesting the potion's recipient was chosen for personal reasons. First is Gideon's dialog when discussing the potion, where it's made clear that he knows Seluvis and doesn't think highly of him: " Is that potion what I think it is? Bloody Seluvis. I suppose he's up to something again. " The next hint is in the description for Dolores the Sleeping Arrow Puppet, a Spirit Ash that can be bought from Seluvis. It reads, " Dolores once belonged to the Roundtable Hold, where she was both a critic and a friend of Gideon the All-Knowing. It was because of her that he and Seluvis went their separate ways. " This implies Gideon has lost a close companion to Seluvis before (but not long enough ago that the Roundtable Hold was still in Elden Ring 's capital ), and his fatherly relation to Nepheli may be a contributing factor in her being a puppet candidate - an opportunity for Seluvis to strike another blow in a sort of rivalry between him and Gideon.

Seluvis' Potion Can Be Given To Dung Eater In Elden Ring

Nepheli Loux appears to be, at least in part, Seluvis' target because of her potential for great things. Indeed if her questline is completed, she will replace Godrick the Grafted as Lord of Stormveil Castle, simultaneously completing Kenneth Haight and Gatekeeper Gostoc's quests. Haight agonized over finding someone who was worthy to sit on Limgrave's throne, and Nepheli by all accounts will rule honorably. At the other end of that spectrum is another possible victim of Seluvis' potion, someone who has already proved themself to be a vile wretch - the Loathsome Dung Eater, Elden Ring 's most terrifying character .

Related:  Elden Ring's Best Enemies Tell Tragic Gameplay Stories

There's no prior indication that the Dung Eater can be a recipient of Seluvis' potion, and the opportunity to give it to him comes much later in the game than when players are typically involved in the Seluvis questline. Players will need to reach the Altus Plateau, a region accessed by riding the Grand Lift of Dectus or ascending through the Ravine-Veiled Village, Miner's Cave, and Ruin-Strewn Precipice to the Grand Lift's northwest. The Dung Eater's red phantom will then appear in the Roundtable Hold and his quest can be started. Players will eventually find his corporeal form and be tasked with bringing him Seedbed Curses. It is here players can make him drink Seluvis' potion, which will prematurely end his quest just like it does Nepheli's. The reward for doing so, however, is the opportunity to get the Dung Eater Puppet Spirit Ashes  from Seluvis, making the notorious murderer and defiler summonable.

Unfortunately, the Loathsome Dung Eater being one who potentially ingests Seluvis' potion doesn't seem to carry as much narrative weight as Nepheli Loux. The Dung Eater's quest is important to one of  Elden Ring 's alternate endings, but he lacks any significant association with Seluvis.  Elden Ring 's side quests are notoriously obtuse, and the mysterious potion Seluvis gives to the player can have dire consequences in multiple questlines. If Seluvis' arrogance wasn't off-putting enough, his twisted role as a puppet master makes him one of the more repulsive characters in  Elden Ring , with his targeting of Nepheli only furthering his status as an unsympathetic character.

Emmanuel Petit urges Arsenal to accept £15m bid from rivals for Aaron Ramsdale

Aaron Ramsdale looks on from the bench prior to the Premier League match between West Ham and Arsenal

Emmanuel Petit has urged his former club Arsenal to accept a £15m bid from their Premier League rivals Newcastle United for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale .

It was reported last week that Newcastle are willing to pay £15m to sign the England international, who lost his No.1 spot at the Emirates to David Raya.

Some reports even claimed that Ramsdale had already agreed a move to Newcastle , but the player has since distanced himself from those rumours.

It still seems that Ramsdale is destined to leave Arsenal, though, with the Gunners keen to hear offers while the ‘keeper is desperate for more regular playing time.

Should a £15m bid come in from Newcastle, Petit feels Arsenal should give them the green light and make the move happen as it is the best thing for all parties.

‘£15m for Ramsdale to Newcastle? It’s a difficult one because what is the value of a player who is sitting on the bench?’ Petit told BoyleSports, who offer the latest Euro 2024 betting .

‘He’s barely played for the last few seasons, but for someone with two years on his contract, £15m seems quite a small amount – especially for an England ‘keeper.

Aaron Ramsdale reacts during the Premier League match between Arsenal FC and Brentford FC

‘I think the problem is that Arsenal are not in the driving seat because they know the player wants to leave – so perhaps £15m is good business for Arsenal overall.

‘In the transfer window, Arsenal have got it spot on in recent years so you can’t complain about that.’

Arsenal have reportedly drawn up a three-man shortlist as they plan to bring in a replacement for Ramsdale.

Andy Cole has accused Mikel Arteta of ‘mugging off’ Ramsdale after the Spaniard replaced the goalkeeper with Raya.

‘I think he’s been hard done by, I really do,’ Cole said. ‘He was so good for Arsenal last season and then all of a sudden, Mikel Arteta has gone out and got a new goalkeeper and initially claimed that he had two number ones, which was complete nonsense from day one.

‘The way he’s disregarded Ramsdale has been really disrespectful. He’s mugged him off basically.’
